Burg’s Hideaway Lounge Review - South Philly - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Burg’s is a relatively dark and quiet tiki bar in South Philly where, unlike most of Philly’s Irish pubs and dives, you can actually have a conversation. They have a small menu of things like vegetable spring rolls and kimchi mushroom dumplings - but really you’re here for the $3 Happy Hour drafts and grapefruit palomas in tiki glasses." - Sydney McElwee

Burg’s Hideaway Lounge - Review - Point Breeze - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Burg’s Hideaway is a small bar in Point Breeze where the menu reads like a slightly upscale seaside snack shack (think miso salmon and rice cakes and sake steamed mussels). The cocktails are strong and affordable, the lighting is dim, and they’ve got a weekend brunch if you’re looking for a day date." - Jordan Price

Yelp
We had a great experience at Insatiable last night! It was our second time here; we came once in the first week it was open. Service was wonderful, atmosphere was nice, and food was very good! We each got a glass of Cab and shared the french onion dumplings, which were great! I got the steak frittes and my steak was overcooked (i ordered medium rare and it came out medium well) but it was still so tasty and soft. The fries were delicious. I told the waiter and even though I had already eaten half, they prepared me a new steak that was perfectly medium rare and a whole new basket of fries. They even gave us two extra glasses of wine in the house for the troubles . My husband got the burger and he thought it was delicious. Im glad we tried this place again, as its a nice neighborhood spot just a few blocks away.

Yelp
With solid service and a cute corner location in South Philadelphia (just past Graduate Hospital), Insatiable had its ups and downs. Our group sat in a booth toward the back and shared a few appetizers and sides: - French Onion Soup Dumplings (gruyere cheese), which tasted exactly like french onion soup; - Pastrami Egg Rolls (onions, swiss, spicy mustard); - Special Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls--between the two egg roll options, we preferred the pastrami, but wished the pastrami was chopped more finely for easier consumption; - Brussels Sprouts (honey sriracha); and - Fried Jewel Jasmine Rice--loved the freshness of the edamame and spring onions. For the entrees, the Gem Lettuce (grape tomato, onion, olives, dirty-martini dressing) and the Burger (bacon jam, vermont cheddar, "D" sauce, brioche bun, fries) were well received--burger was on temp, though the bacon jam was a little too sweet, but the New England Lobster Roll (yuzu kosho slaw, old bay fries) was noted as being a lil'fishy and the Steak Frites (flat iron, bourbon butter, parmesan herb fries) was under temp (ordered medium rare).

Yelp
Omg, how have we been sleeping on this great restaurant!? Needed a change, tired of East Passyunk so walked over to Insatiable - formerly Burgs Hideaway, then Community, both were good - but we totally LOVED our 2 dinners (Sat and Sun night). Steak frites - outstanding! Burger-better than anywhere else I've had - and I've had a lot of burgers. French onion wontons - holy Shiite!!! Sooo good. Hubs loved pastrami egg rolls, othered steak frites second night in a row, I got the malfidine crab pasta and goat cheese watermelon salad -- amazing. I ate it all. I never eat 3 courses, but everything was spectacular. Hand to god. Delicious!!!

Yelp
French onion soup dumplings and HH from 4-6pm everyday! Definitely worth it for the happy hour specials. The other dishes we tried (steak frites, hamachi crudo, two specials) were okay. Nothing special. Staff was super nice and welcoming!

Yelp
Had dinner at Insatiable about a month ago. Their cocktails are apparently good, and they offer $15 caviar bumps. My husband and I sat at one of the high tops. We had a couple of drinks and a nice dinner. We shared the French onion soup dumplings and wild mushrooms puff pastry for our appetizers. For our mains, I had the tuna poke bowl and a side of brussels sprouts, while my husband had the steak frites. Nothing really blew us away. Overall, the food was kind of basic, which I realized when I saw the menu, but it was prepared well and tasted good. And the prices were extremely, extremely affordable. Service was great from start to finish. Our server checked on us several times to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. Insatiable is not your regular neighborhood restaurant/bar. The décor is casual chic. It's not rowdy. It's not grimy. The vibes are chill. They've got craft cocktails, and the food is slightly elevated.

Yelp
Stopped in for a cocktail and decided to get some fries to go with it. The fries were good and the drink was even better. The bartender's customer service was excellent. He made me feel comfortable , was attentive, and had some great stories. He mentioned that they have brunch and I will be back to try it out!

Yelp
Great little neighborhood spot tucked into Point Breeze with food & cocktails as cool & inviting as the clientele. The staff are above & beyond, but I should say less & you should go, again & again.

Yelp
Forgot to take any pics! We stopped in last night for a few old fashioneds (yum) and a few appetizers. We shared the pastrami egg rolls and the French Onion soup dumplings. As others have said....the dumplings are out of this world ridiculously good. Tastes just like french onion soup and then you also get some crispy dumplings. How could it get any better! Have been before for a yummy breakfast and will be back soon for a full dinner.

Yelp
We took a chance and walked in on Valentines night The gracious hostess told us that no tables were available but seats at the bar were. So, that's where we sat. Very glad that we did. The food was delicious! I had a great steak that was cooked perfectly, my companion had a seafood dish that she loved. The restaurant is tiny, cozy, intimate and very clean! Definitely a place we will visit again soon, and highly recommend!

Yelp
Amazing dinner spot! We came for dinner on a Thursday night and it was really nice. The place is a little small but the atmosphere was pretty chill. We love the French onion soup dumplings so much that we ordered another one! It was delicious! We came for that and it delivered 100%. The octopus was tender. The tuna was fresh with a nice crunch. We had lobster roll that was pretty good with the steak, which was tender! Service was nice and chef Denise (sorry if I messed it up) came up and made sure it was good. Def enjoyed our dinner here!

Yelp
Tried this new spot in South Philly with a few friends. There was some good and some not so good. Good: French onion dumplings were probably the best thing I have ever eaten. We couldn't stop talking about them after. Focaccia and other tapenade was good. Focaccia was very thick though which is unusual. Tapenade was very flavorful. Someone in our party got the shrimp tostadas and loved them. Fries were delicious and perfectly seasoned. Food service was pretty quick. We were able to get a reservation easily and didn't wait at all once we arrived. Not so good: Lobster roll was meh. Presentation made it almost impossible to eat. Ratio of filling to bread was way off - you had to eat it with a knife and fork. Lobster filling desperately needed salt. Drink service was SLOW! Two people in our party don't drink alcohol and never were offered refills until right before leaving. Chairs are incredibly uncomfortable. It's expensive so not going to end up being a regular place but more of a special occasion spot. I could have forgiven all the not so good until the end. They had dessert options - one was an apple crisp with vanilla ice cream. My weakness! Issue #1 - apple crisp had no crisp. It arrived cold with the crumble on top raw. Apple crisp has a crumble typically made from flour and butter that has to be baked to be crispy. Instead mine had just raw flour topping on it. I said something and they took it back and cooked it. Issue #2 - the apples had the peel on them. Baking 101 of apple desserts is that you HAVE to peel the apples first. If you don't, and cook the apples with it on, the peel becomes leathery and almost inedible. This is not at all something I would have expected at this type of restaurant and was a pretty egregious error to have made. That essentially ruined the entire evening. They took it off our bill which was nice but appalling it even occurred.

Yelp
This place is so bad , calling it mediocre would be paying it a compliment . They have the audacity to put a Cocktails neon sign outside to make the worst swill imaginable, the bartender literally told us "I'm a Tito's girl" while we were ordering cocktails , and we were charged $15 each for the pleasure of old fashioneds that were below dive bar standards. It's so unfortunate this is our neighborhood bar, and I cant wait for Darwinism to take over and put this place out of its misery .

Yelp
I believe this place is newer, so get in while you can, because it's bound to get so popular, you'll have a long wait. The Artisan drinks are amazing and the bar is stunning. All the food was delicious. We had the French onion dumplings, so cheesy and perfectly portioned; the octopus was cooked to perfection, the shrimp tostados which are spicyyyyyy, and the lobster roll with a heaping serving of shoestring fries. The festive pumpkin affogato was incredible, and the brownie with the salted caramel ice cream was big enough to share. The staff was also so delightful, our waiter John was excellent and the whole atmosphere was cozy. The have a couple of seats outside as well while the weather is nice. I think next time I would sit at the bar as it's beautiful and the bartender seems fun.

Yelp
Had dinner here in a very quiet Wednesday night and really enjoyed the experience. The cocktails were well made and delicious- had the Bite Me and PassionFruit Martini. The staff did a great job very personable but not intrusive and we were well taken care of. The food was excellent we shared a few small plates - dumplings, mushrooms in puff pastry and whipped eggplant. Each dish was really good - the dumplings are worth the hype and the whipped eggplant was a surprise hit- lovely texture and great flavor with nicely warmed flatbread. Will definitely be back for brunch!

Yelp
Went for dinner with a dear friend. It was great to see a new spot in the neighborhood! From start to finish we had great service. We started with the grilled octopus and French onion soup dumplings. Both were great. We had the tuna Buddha bowl, steak frites and shared Brussel sprouts. What a great new addition to the south philly neighborhood. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
This is by far my favorite new restaurant in Philly! I went on a date and absolutely loved my experience. the food, drinks, and service were all incredible. I got the "pucker up" cocktail which was so good. The French onion soup dumplings were the best and most creative appetizer I've had in a while. Lobster roll was just perfect! It's been 24 hours since I left and I haven't stopped thinking about the brownie dessert once... need to come back ASAP for brunch!

Yelp
Overall mixed review. French onion soup dumplings were delicious, Great empanadas and tuna appetizers. Mediocre pastrami egg rolls, and whipped eggplant. Sent back a quite frankly bad drink after telling the waiter we would prefer something else and "the insatiable kiss" and still ended up on the bill. Other drinks were pretty good. I want to love any new place in point breeze but overall I am a little underwhelmed with the service and food. Hopefully will get better with time.

Yelp
We loved celebrating our anniversary at Insatiable. A neighborhood gem that has excellent and carefully prepared food and cocktails. Those who wait on you appear to really care about what they are doing and making this an important Philadelphia restaurant- thank you for an enjoyable evening!

Yelp
Made a reservation for Sunday brunch. Was welcomed upon arrival and sat promptly. Everything on the menu sounded delicious . We ordered the chicken crape's (the sauce was decadent) the insatiable burger (which was cooked to perfection) and a cinnamon roll topped with an egg and bacon crumbles. We enjoyed our meal and drinks so much and will definitely be returning! My compliments to the chef. What a great new restaurant. Best of luck and much continued success

Yelp
Omgdness! I ate here today the kiss cocktail was amazing. The insatiable burger was so good & unique (no condiments required). The chicken crepe was wonderful especially the sauce. The service was delightful & courteous. It's a winner & I'll be back!

Yelp
Went to Sunday brunch with friends today. The crepes, tuna bowl and drinks were amazing! I had the tuna bowl and the fish and vegetables were fresh and delicious. I loved the sauce! I also had the pumpkin martini for an appetizer and dessert;-) yummmmmmmmmy! I had a bite of my friends chicken and smoked Gouda crepes, this will live in my dreams for eternity! A must try!

Yelp
Went here for brunch for the first time. Overall, a really good experience. We ordered the chicken crepes, the steak and eggs, and finished with the donuts. Everything was cooked well and was tasty! Will come back for dinner at some point. Point Breeze needs nice food spots like this to succeed, so I hope the community supports it.

Yelp
Great service. Everyone that was working was so sweet. There aren't many restaurants of its kind in the neighborhood.Tuna wontons, hamachi crudo and French onion soup dumplings are awesome. My group loved their entrees. We had the Buddha bowl add tuna, the shrimp tostadas, the steak frites and a perfectly cooked burger. The only reason I didn't leave 5 stars is because the beverage menu needs a bit of help. The wine list... was not great. The beers... not great. The cocktail list was generic and fine but very sweet. I think it seems like chef Denise really has a firm grasp on food but would benefit from a beverage consultant or manager. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't eat here though. Wonderful food and wonderful staff. Will happily come back!

Yelp
Went back to Insatiable last night. This time with family and friends. Everyone raved about how great it was. The staff were extremely friendly and the food and cocktails were, as usual, exceptional.

Yelp
Hosted my 30th birthday here as a private event and everything was excellent. Denise and her staff went above and beyond to make the event perfect. Everything ran extremely smoothly and was very affordable. All of the drinks and food here is delicious as well. Definitely recommend and great addition to the neighborhood.
