Where to Get a Lunar New Year Feast in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"What 123Dzo has named Lucky Lunar Hotpot is also known as lẩu hải sản in Vietnamese: a mix of seafood (squid, shrimp, fish balls, fish filet, mussels, and beef slices), along with vegetables and vermicelli. This bounty gets dipped in a hot and sour broth to be shared by three to four people. Pick up at their Laval location." - Ivy Lerner-Frank

Reserved this restaurant for work xmas party. It was a first for all of us and we all did liked the food. They served us vietnamese the most popular tapas so we got to taste them on first experience there. The waiter was nice to explain the menu and kind enough to suggest us this and that with honest opinion. We all did have a great time all together, my collegues and I. We socialized, we played games, laughed and won prizes! I would admit that for our first time there, for all of us, it was great experience - a success! Thank you for having us, 123 DZO!

We had the BBQ skewers, fried rice, and sizzling beef, everything was so good! The flavors were rich and authentic, and each dish was perfectly cooked and well-seasoned. The sizzling beef was especially a highlight! The only downside was that our waiter seemed a bit out of it, like he wasn’t really into it that day. Still, the overall experience was great, and I’d definitely come back again!

First time experience and not the last! Wanted to try for a while and happened to go due oyster/beer promotion! My spouse and I were served by Jennifer to whom we asked about popular dishes and her favorite one! We loved her recommendation of the soft tofu dish which was delightful! The grilled calamari was slightly overcooked and chewy but it’s not easy to get those just right! We’ll be back! The chilled Sai Gon beer was thirst-quenching!

Very disappointing experience. Every dish was poorly made — the pork chop rice was dry and hard to eat, and the pho noodles were all broken apart so you couldn’t even pick them up without them falling apart. The quail egg skewers were extremely oily, the squid portion was tiny, and the other dishes like scallops and grilled skewers were just average at best. On top of that, it was very overpriced. We only ordered five dishes, but it took almost two hours for everything to come out, with long gaps between each dish. Definitely not worth the price or the wait.

The skewers were delicious, especially when accompanied by the Vietnamese IPA. The Bánh Cuốn (Steamed Rice Rolls) with Chả lụa was good, though the portion was small. While the dishes were quite decent overall, the slow service made the dinner feel drawn out.

Today we had a dinner around opening time (5pm). I'm sure we are the first one order, the salad came pretty fast and it took almost 30 minutes for the 6 dishes to come out at the same time. I know it was a bit busy at that time, but staffs were not flexible. We heard exact eight-bells from the kitchen (20-25 minutes) but no one come to deliver the food. Why didn't they get 1-2 dishes first and take the order for the next table then? Why did they had to take the order for every single table, do the drink and then bring the food to the table lastly? We’ve been waiting 30 minutes to have all the rest at the same time and they're all cold, the quality of all of them were worse (but can acceptable), except the fried rice used too old rice, can’t even eat the second spoon. We talked to the one of the staff that the rice smell bad and want to cancel another order for Togo that we ordered ahead. And then we still got a bill with one rice counted on. I don't think with this problem we will come back for another time. If the owner known that, I don't think he will let it go because we’ve been this place at least once every month. Btw I still like the way old staffs work here, not the new one. Really disappointed!!!

We went to 123 Dzo after our escaped the room. I really like the environment that have the Vietnamese touch. The restaurant is tapas style and they are famous for the seafood. But I found they Skeeters are nice too We had papaya salad and beef creche to start with. We shared a picher sangria to dhare and had a blue with coconut, and pink with rose. We found you can taste more coconut and pink rose taste drink than in the sangria. We have ordered a skewer platter (10pc to share), soft share crab, the noodle, rice with pick chops, a beef on the iron skillet thing. All very good! Group of 6, paid around $65 (tax and tops included) per person. Service is nice, drink is nice Now I understand why lots of people recommended this place.

We loved everything about this place. The drinks were awesome and staff very nice. We only didn’t like the chicken skin which didn’t have the best of Taste.

Yelp
Best Vietnamese I've had in Montreal... and I've tried many of them! This is a new restaurant in the same space as an older restaurant, but this one is so, so, so much better. Menu is innovative and features a lot beyond the usual Viet standbys. Spring rolls were fresh and tasty, scallops in the shell were yummy, and beef skewers were cooked perfectly. I'm gonna come back someday soon to try the spicy jellyfish.

Yelp
Overall this place has good food and delicious and flavorful Pho! I ordered 3 items off the happy hour menu: chicken wings, fried quail eggs and the calamari. The chicken wings were crispy on the outside and moist and tender on the inside with a delicious sweet and sticky sauce. The calamari was a bit like onion rings that when you bite down the onion comes out but they had good flavor and had a lovely mayo/hot sauce dipper. The quail eggs were the star: they had a great sauce that was rich and thick and yummy salty peanuts on top. We also had some lychee sangria that was light and drank very smoothly!

Yelp
Food is flavourful, the place is beautifully decorated and brings you the real vietnamese vibe. Reminds me of my hometown! Service is excellent too

Yelp
This is a very small and cute Vietnamese resto. It's kinda like a tapas/full plate resto. This is a street food resto So you can get your own plate or share stuff. We got a few different things The mango salad, the chicken skewers, the mussels, the beef saute, the sticky chicken wings and to end it we got the fried banana for dessert My favorites were the mango salad it was so fresh and yummy, the chicken skewers were very flavorful which I loved and also the fried banana with coconut was devine. I would not recommend to get the mussels, they had a weird taste and odor, not sure if it was because of the toppings and the sauce but we felt bad asking to take it up. Other than that the place is nice for small and also big groups, the employees were all very nice and attentive and also the service was very fast. We got there when they had opened on a Sunday and more nd more ppl showed up and you can see that they were really consistent. Definitely recommend this place and also do a takeaway option.

Yelp
Great find. We were six for supper on a Saturday night. Very simple decor. Awesome service. Friendly staff. We were confused and the waiter proposed menu dégustation . We shared plate after plate of different salads and dishes. One better than the other. We really enjoyed the food selection. Great for the adventurous types.

Yelp
Original vietnamese tapas style restaurant, with nice decoration! Music a bit loud but authentic vietnamese. We shared the 10 brochette dish and soft shell crab appetizer. The sauces were amazing! The crab was very tasty too! Would return and try other dishes!

Yelp

Yelp
Anthony Bourdain, honorary Vietnamese cultural hero, said it best in an episode of Parts Unknown: "One of the great joys of life is riding a scooter through Vietnam (...) a flowing, gorgeous thing; as you ride you not only see, you hear, a hundred intimate moments in miniature. You smell wonderful unnameable things cooking issuing from storefronts and food-stalls; you hear the sounds of beeping, laughing, announcements from speakers, the put-put and roar of a million tiny engines." Street food in Vietnam is not simply a series of traditional dishes sold on the streets but captures the beauty of the people's culture, lifestyle, and mindset. Sophisticated, complex, and yet accessible, the cuisine combines a number of ingredients, contrasting flavours, textures, focuses on the harmony of sour, salty, spicy, and sweet to bring refreshing flavours, preserve natural tastes of its ingredients and remains healthy. From dawn to dusk and into the night, Vietnamese street food is enjoyed on the sidewalks, bustling with mouthwatering dishes and tantalizing aromas, while sitting on low plastic stools, and drinking cold beers. Although thousands of miles away, we were able to sample some of the iconic dishes right here in one spot, prepared by owners and chefs Tam Nguyen and Steven (Thoai) Le at 123 Dzô in Laval. The vast món nhậu (tapas) menu includes small plates made for sharing - we tried: Gỏi Sứa (jellyfish salad), Gỏi Đu Đu Khô Bò (green papaya & beef jerky), Cánh Gà Chiên Mắm (fried chicken wings with fish sauce), Mục Nướng (grilled squid), Chef's Choice Brochettes (beef, pork, chicken, fish balls, shrimp), Chem Chếp Xào Dừa (Coconut mussels), Bánh Nạm (flat rice dumplings), Bột Chiên (Fried rice cakes & eggs), Fried bananas with ice cream and a delicious Vietnamese Crème Caramel with a side of shaved ice, doused with tasty Vietnamese coffee. Will have to return with more friends to taste the rest of the menu and drinks of course!

Yelp
The rice noodle is tasteless, I asked some more soy sauce, and she didn't say anything. When she checked out, she was told that a little soy sauce was charged $2. It felt that the store was very stingy, like eating fries with more ketchup, and charged without saying.

Yelp
Had the fried calamari, beef skewers and some ice cream as desert. All were pretty good, nice date place. Service was not bad. Good date place.

Yelp
Went to try this spot for a datenight, very cute decor! Also lots of parking. We tried the fried chicken skin, skewers, springrolls, and clams. The food is pretty good! Highly recommend getting the skewer plate and sharing! Also loved how crunchy the chicken skin was. Pairs really well with some cold beer. Overall I would recommend!
