Another great spot! Came on a thursday 5:30pm, so we avoided the line and got seated immediately for a party of 2. There was a QR code on the wall for menu and ordering, which was really convenient. We ordered the Himokawa dipping udon with extra wide flat house made udon noodles served warm with a side of warm yuzu dipping broth + bacon, shrimp, purple sweet potato, asparagus, and onion tempura. This was very fun to eat and it was delicious! The employee also taught us how to mix the scallions, quail eggs, and wasabi. I love the dipping broth with a kick of yuzu. The tempura items were also nicely crisped! I thought the bacon was very interesting and flavorful with the smokiness.

Friendly and efficient staff, straightforward menu, and tasty noodles. Docking a star for the small portion size and the lack of depth in the hot soup. Line forms quick! I arrived 10 minutes before opening and luckily was seated before the rush. I got the warm udon in a hot chicken-based soup and my friend got the classic dipping udon with the yuzu dipping broth. While the noodles were perfectly, satisfyingly chewy and had fantastic texture, the broth was reminiscent of the soup concentrate that comes in the instant Nongshim udon. Not bad, but not impressive. The portion was also quite small and I could've easily eaten another 50% portion of the udon. Of the tempura, the strongest item was definitely the shrimp! Crispy and not overcooked with a super tender bite. Unfortunately, both my friend and I agreed that the tempura bacon was way too greasy -- I actually didn't finish my piece bc it coated the whole inside of my mouth which each bite and started getting unbearable. I did also think it was funny that the asparagus tempura was a single stalk *sliced in HALF lengthwise*...what a way to cut costs haha.

Phenomenal udon spot! Okiboru is a small space, seating around 15-20 people at a time, so expect a wait during peak dining hours (7-9pm). There's no bathroom or space to wash your hands, but they do give you a warm towel when you have a seat. Each menu is self order via QR code, and there is a limited menu of less than 5 main dishes, with the dipping cold noodles as their most popular signature dish ($23). The cold broth was a yuzu dashi soy mixture, and came with a raw quail egg, grated daikon, green onions, and wasabi to mix. The wide noodles were chewy and bouncy - hard to pick up, and I wish there were more noodles. The tempura was excellent, so light and crisp. I did finish my entire plate which was a perfect amount, but I was wanting more noodles to feel more satisfied. I would come again if I was in the area!

Stopped by for a quick lunch and was able to get seated pretty quickly even though it's such a small space! We tried two different noodles, the thicker ones were super popular but they were a little hard to eat. The matcha zaru noodles were delicious and had a good slurp to them! Overall an extremely filling lunch and we finished just in time for a start of a line outside.

The restaurant is very small and does not have a bathroom. I always find it odd when restaurants don't have a restroom, especially when the food is so expensive. I got the signature - Himokawa Dipping Udon. I had flat udon noodles for the first time in Japan and waited an hour for them in the rain. It was nice I did not have to wait this time. We came at noon on a Saturday and there was no wait. The Udon was nice and the dip was fresh. The tempura was fried very well. Crisp and crunchy without any sogginess. Not over fried as well. The ingredients inside were perfectly cooked. The bacon was so crispy. Overall it was a good meal, but, don't kill me if I say this - the one in Japan was better. The only downside was you only get 6 noodles and they dry out as you eat them. So, don't eat too slowly.

I'm very torn about this place... Udon itself was yummy but I didn't like the fact that we don't have a choice for side dishes. It came with assorted tempura and I asked for healthier choice but they have none. AND NO BATHROOM!!! Is it even possible?!?! I think it's a perfect spot for NYU students who lives in that area and just want grabbing quick eat.

Came on a Saturday at 2:30pm and there was no wait. We were sat at the back and immediately provided with a compressed towel tablet along with a tiny cup of warm water to wipe off the city grime before eating. This is a tiny and cute restaurant that offers a different take on the typical udon. I always order the [Signature] Himokawa Dipping Udon with Tempura Set here because it's a fun experience. The wide and flat noodles are silky smooth and picks up the broth pretty well. Initially, the cold yuzu dipping broth may not seem like enough but it packs a lot of flavor and is the perfect amount. I thought mixing the raw quail egg and wasabi into the cold broth would be a weird combination, but it actually tasted good together. The yuzu stands out in the broth and goes well with the tempura. My favorite is the bacon but honestly everything tastes amazing. I probably would skip the chicken tempura next time. It was good but not "fried bacon" good. I love fried food and sometimes it can be too greasy but Okiboru does it perfectly light and crispy. We also tried the Matcha Zaru Dipping Udon with Tempura Set. I didn't like this as much because I didn't think the matcha noodles were as good as the himokawa udon. Also, since the noodles are served on ice, parts of the noodles sort of froze together, which made it difficult to separate. This isn't an issue if you're not a slow eater.

What a unique udon spot! So glad I came to try after seeing it all over social media! The inside is quite small, so you might have a bit of a wait. I ordered the cold dipping udon, which was so refreshing for a hot day. I really liked how the broth had yuzu in it, which really brought out a dimension in flavor and made it all that much more refreshing. The broth wasn't thick, so it didn't really stick to the udon so you had to keep dipping it to get the flavor. The tempura was also very well prepared and delicious!

I've been wanting to come here since they opened but heard the wait was insane back then so only got around to it recently. We came for lunch on the weekend. The restaurant was busy (the space is small so there aren't many seats) but we only had to wait 10 minutes. I ordered the cold dipping noodle, which comes with a few pieces of tempura. I swapped out the fried bacon with chicken, which I think was a good idea (I tried a bite of my friend's fried bacon and it was too greasy for me). The tempura was nice and crispy, the noodles were chewy, and I enjoyed the dipping sauce. They don't give you a lot of noodles but it was the perfect amount of food for me. Really solid place for dipping udon!

This is a very refreshing experience with Udon! The presentation is top tier, it feels like a slice of Japan when you walk in. Their menu is simple but executed wonderfully! They have easy QR codes to scan and order from, friendly and quick service, and a relaxing ambiance to enjoy your food. The tempura comes with bacon tempura which was something I never tried before and was delicious, unique and it just works! Overall, definitely worth a visit, especially on a hot summer day when a cold noodle dish just hits the spot!

The udon is good, but the TEMPURA is fantastic. The noodles were thin and wide with a light chew and bounce to it. The dipping sauce was light and refreshing on a hot day. The space is small and intimate with counter seating for all. It's great for solo dining and small groups. You order through their QR code that's specific to your seat number and the meal comes relatively quickly. The tempura that came with the set was so delicate yet so crunchy. You would think bacon tempura sounds like overkill, but it is not and it is delicious. I think about their tempura like a Ghibli fever dream.

This was hands down one of the best meals I ate on this trip to nyc. It was so different, flavorful, light, refreshing, yummy, and fun! I've only had traditional udon with thick stringy noodles. First time having flat wide udon and also first time having bacon tempura. I ordered an extra one because I didnt know it came with bacon and a shrimp. It was fun mixing your own dipping sauce with the quail egg, dashi, and green onions. Flavor was yuzu soy. It was very refreshing for the summer. Service was great.

I came here with my girlfriend for dinner. we had to wait a bit hit given it was a sunday night service moved quickly. The service was quick, and the staff were super friendly. The food came out fast, and everything looked great when it arrived. signature set wide udon noodles with tempura - 10/10 The tempura was freshly fried. it did not feel oily and the dipping sauce did a great job of cutting the oil.there was asparagus onion sweet potato and bacon. it was something very different from what you usually get which i really liked. I'd recommend eating it with the sauce as it helps to lighten the oily feeling. the noodles itself was great the wide size made it oak up the broth well and the texture was chewy we loved it matcha noodles - 5/10 I was expecting more matcha flavor which was why i give it such a low rating. however in terms of texture i enjoyed it alot. it was a medium firm feel and soaked up the broth well. however i would not get it again Overall, I'd recommend this place for people who want udon but something a bit different. it's a fun place to try when on a date Perfect spot to share a meal with friends or family.

I've been seeing the thick dipping udon online so I was so excited to know there's a spot in New York that serves the udon! The texture of the udon was chew, smooth but soft at the same time, the flavor of the dipping yuzu sauce was refreshing and light. I tried the signature set and it also came with some tempura including bacon. I never had a bacon tempura so it was something new for me and I really enjoyed it as well. If you've been wanting to try dipping udon and you're not going to Japan any time soon, this is a great spot to try some!

My boyfriend left hungry LOL Tempura was delicious and the wide udon noodle is fun to eat! We ordered the himokawa dipping udon with tempura set. The sauce was very refreshing with hints of yuzu and wasabi. For the price we paid at $23 (before tax/tip), we would prefer to leave feeling full. Would probably not come back again

Passed by and decided to try for lunch. It is not a very big space, combination of counter and hi top seating. Was seated promptly and scanned a QR code for menu. You order and pay first. Waiter will be able to walk you through the menu if its your first time dining. Not a long wait for the dipping udon set that comes with a variety of tempura including bacon, shrimp, sweet potato, and onion. There is a small quail egg with sauce and wasabi included as well. Udon texture is thicker then what I am used to, but I enjoyed because it was a unique taste. The tempura was delicious as well, not overly fried or oily. Keep in mind that even though you are a paying customer, there is no restroom. Other then that, food and service was top notch.

Saw this unique udon spot and wanted to try it! I had seen the flat thick noodles in viral videos before but thought they were just available in Japan, so I was so happy when I found out NYC had them too. We came on a Wednesday afternoon and there was no wait at all. I got the signature Himokawa dipping udon with assorted tempura. The noodles were fun to eat but are a bit hard to pick up at first because they're so thick! The dipping sauce is flavorful and salty; perfect for dipping. I loved the assorted tempura that came with the meal. The vegetables were yummy and the shrimp was a great size. It also came with a piece of bacon tempura which I had never had before, but it was amazing and the crunchiness balanced out with the flavor and texture of noodles.

Went in for dinner at 6:15pm on a Friday and we were seated right away! By the time we left around 7:30pm a line had built up. Service was extremely quick, you order and pay for your food using a qr code at the start. I loved the texture of the noodles, way better than raku. Tempura was also delicious, shrimp was extremely plump and I subbed the bacon for an extra sweet potato. Ambiance is nice and space is small.

Very good udon (to be fair I didn't need to wait in line) The thick noodles reminds me of rice crepes/ho noodles from Chinese restaurants. Really scratches that itch. The dipping sauce is fragrant with a citrus touch. With the wasabi and grinded radish it was really refreshing on a hot day. The noodles in soup was good too and it made the noodles slightly softer which I also enjoyed. Ohh and they have a vegan option!

I was so excited to get the flat qq udon here - it is a small joint, but the flavors and noodles really hit the spot! I loved the plating and the unique udon here - would definitely come back if I'm craving some qq udon or to try the hot one.

We got there around 4pm and got seated for t second round of tables. Four items on the menu, each served with a side of tempura. The wide noodz are very slurpy Rly liked the texture! The dipping sauce is a yuzu soy sauce base and very light. Wish it had more body since the noodles don't pick up much flavor. Tempura is fine, kinda confused by the bacon. Fun to eat but I'd rather be at Raku. Himokawa Dipping Udon $24 extra Jumbo Shrimp Tempura $4 작년에 핫했던 우동집. 메뉴는 우동 & 텐푸라 세트가 전부다. 넓적한 우동면이 쫄깃하고 후루룩 먹기 재밌음 ‍ 소스는 유자 간장 베이스라서 가볍고 산뜻한데, 너무 묽어서 면에 간이 안 배인다. 튀김은 특이점 없음. 일본에서 먹던게 그리우면 한번쯤 갈만한데 큰기대는 노노.

Such a unique dipping udon experience! The ordering system is quick & easy - you use a QR code to pay ahead. I really enjoyed the udon! The yuzu dipping broth was honestly the best part since it complimented the noodles perfectly. They also give you a quail egg to enhance the umami. Tempura was perfectly fried. Main downside was this meal didn't come with that much food for $26, so you're mainly paying for the special udon experience.

I got the dipping set and a hot green tea (not pictured). I think this place is worth trying once, but I probably wouldn't return. I had this dish in Japan and it was the best meal we had and I'm a fan of cold udons in general. However, this place fell flat for me. The noodles were chewy, but it didn't hold enough of the flavors of the sauce for me. The sauce was very yuzu forward, which is unideal for me since that's all I tasted. The dish was also quite expensive, even for NYC standards, for a small portion size. The tempura selection was also unideal. I would've preferred another shrimp, or eggplant/pumpkin over the 2 onions.

Wow, a truly standout meal. I see why people line up for hours to eat here. Luckily, I came on one of those one-digit temperature days, so we got seated right away. I love the counter-top seating. It's so cozy and intimate. I ordered their signature dipping udon, and oh my GOD it was amazing. The yuzu dipping sauce is so refreshing and light, and I just couldn't get enough. The flavor was so dynamic, and I truly don't think I've had anything like it before. The flat udon noodles were so incredibly thick and chewy. The texture was absolutely amazing. They give you these tongs to pick the noodles up with, and the ease of use was great. And the tempura--oh my GOD. Best tempura I've ever had in my life. I did not want it to end. The batter was so light and crunchy, yet also so flavorful. I saved my shrimp tempura until the end, and I was just taking turns taking a bite from it and a bite from my last udon noodle because I couldn't decide what I wanted to end on. I was so sad when they both inevitably were over. I cannot wait to be back, even though I know there will be lines now that the weather is nicer. This is a meal I am willing to wait in line for, though.

Cute little gem in the east village! There's always a little wait for dining in, but no more than half an hour, at least in my experience. When you're seated, there's a QR code you scan to order and pay directly from your phone. The udon sets came quickly and oh my! The udon don't look like your typical round noodles. They're wide, flat, silky smooth and was enjoyable to eat... although sometimes a bit of a challenge as the udon was quite slippery at times, even for someone experienced with chopsticks! The broth for the soup udon was flavorful and perfectly warm for a cold day. The dipping udon was also pretty good. The sauce was definitely strong in flavor so that's pretty much all you taste. But just like with the soup udon, it was silky smooth and fun to eat. The tempuras that came with the sets were crispy, flavorful, and left me wanting more! If you're in the area and the lines aren't too long, give this udon shop a try! It was a good experience having a different type of udon! Staff were also very friendly and kind.

After a short wait outside, we were seated. The restaurant is small and only counter seating, but there is room for whatever set you order. It can feel a bit crowded if you also get a soda. Service was fantastic. This was, hands down, the most exquisite tempura I've had outside of Japan. The chewy noodles with yuzu broth were acidic, salty, light citrus notes - absolute perfection. Line or not, I will be back. This restaurant is all about doing one thing to mastery and I appreciate the care & attention they put into their food. I would not try to come with more than 1 person because of the seating constraints.

Loved the fat and thick udon!! We got the dipping one and the soup udon. My husband preferred the one in the soup, and I loved the yuzu base for the dipping sauce . Order right at the counter or table and pay through the app first before eating! The tendon that came with it was really fresh and lightly battered. Would definitely come back again

I hadn't realized I went to their other location specific to Tan Tan noodles in the Brooklyn Time Out market. Either way I was excited to try this place out as I had bookmarked this for a while. We lucked out as a party of 2 by coming at around 6pm and there was still a lot of open seating inside. I will say if you came 10 minutes later you would have to wait 20+ minutes as the restaurant is fairly small with no bathroom. I ordered the Himokawa Udon in Broth and it was a very interesting experience. The broth was quite heavy, almost like it could be a dipping sauce, and had a strong chicken flavor. I really liked the noodles as they were soft and bouncy although they didn't really soak up the broth very well. My favorite of the Tempura was definitely the asparagus as it being fried brought out the flavor of the vegetable as well as the shrimp. I didn't care much for the bacon tempura as it was pretty heavy and felt a bit like overkill. Overall, definitely an interesting food experience. It's not the best udon place you will ever go to but a solid place to take friends/family visiting. Also I love that you can pay before you get the meal so you could leave immediately afterward.

We luckily came in on a Sunday evening to no line and immediately got the cold noodle set (for 2) - we added some extra flat noodles and a sweet potato tempura. With the cold yuzu based broth, it came with a quail egg yolk, some shaved daikon, scallions, and wasabi, all of which we threw into the broth. We dipped the flat noodles into the broth which was pretty slippery but lightly captured the broth flavors. It was overall pretty light but so refreshing on a summer night. The tempura was also very good - coming in both a tempura sauce and pink salt that I alternated when dipping. I honestly couldn't rank the tempura if I tried - the asparagus, shrimp, bacon, and sweet potato were all so delicious. And it was still a pretty filling meal for the 2 of us!

This place offers a unique take on noodles, where you dip them into a separate base. While the noodles themselves didn't absorb the flavors as well as I'd hoped, the overall concept was interesting. The tempura selection was unique, with a variety of items fried to perfection--crispy but not overly greasy or oily. I enjoyed dipping them with the Himalaya Salt but there is the typical tempura dip as well. It was a pretty nice atmosphere, it was a small, cozy shop with just two rows of seating, and there's a convenient hook under the table for your bag. The ordering process is relatively seamless--you scan a QR code and place your order online. One odd part is that you have to pay upfront, including selecting a tip before receiving any service. That felt a little awkward and for its price point, it does feel slightly overpriced. Otherwise, it was a nice experience and I do reccomend trying it once.

This place has been all over my social media for a while now but I never had the chance to go since the lines were so long. My friend and I came here on a Saturday around 1 pm and we waited about 10-15 mins before we got seated so the wait was not too bad. The place itself is pretty small - only bar table seating and no actual table seating. You order directly on a QR code and they bring the food over. They do give you a warm towel before the food comes out which is really nice. The menu is also fairly small but very straight forward. We got the Traditional Himokawa Dipping Udon. The food came out really fast. The udon texture was very interesting, it was pretty chewy compared to regular udon that I have had. They were a bit more slippery so it was hard to pick it up. The soup base that you dip it in was very good - not too salty. The tempura was also very delicious - I was surprised at how perfectly crispy everything was. The shrimp tempura and bacon tempura was my favorite (also my first time having bacon tempura). They also do have substitutes if you do not want shrimp or bacon tempura. Overall - very cozy but good food. Would recommend checking this place out. I think I do like this place slightly more than Okiboru House of Tsukemen because the food felt a lot less heavy.

Super unique dipping udon spot with very flat noodles. Difficult to pick up with chopsticks!! I am obsessed with the dipping sauce here, specifically the tiny quail egg they give you to mix together. So much umami in every bite. This is a super efficient operation, reminds me of Japan. Great for a quick lunch or dinner, will definitely return.

Big fan of Okiboru's tsukemen spot and was excited to try their signature wide udon noodles here. Came for lunch on a Wednesday around 1:15 PM and there was no line! My friend and I tried the Signature Himokawa Dipping Udon with Tempura Set and Matcha Zaru Dipping Udon with Tempura Set. The wide noodles were perfect, and the matcha ones were super tasty as well. Tempura was also amazing - especially the shrimp and purple sweet potato. Definitely will be back!

I went to Okiboru on a Wednesday night around 8:30 and it was pretty empty (they close at 9). It's the same as the Okiboru Tsukemen where you order on a QR code and they bring you water. I got the Signature udon which is the cold broth because although it was freezing outside, they crank the heat up inside. They only offer the three or four types of udon and nothing else which I think is totally fine since they specialize in one thing. Cold udon is a yuzu dipping broth that comes with grated radish (mostly flavorless), wasabi, green onion, and a quail egg. I didn't add too much wasabi because I think it would've overpowered the dish but I put everything else into the broth. I think the yuzu flavor was a little strong for me but still very refreshing and tasty. The noodles are soooo chewy and slippery and I enjoyed the texture a lot. I like how they serve with little tongs because otherwise it would be hard to eat them. The tempura was incredibly since it was so light and crispy and not too heavy. The shrimp was massive and the batter to shrimp ratio was crazy. The asparagus, onion, sweet potato and bacon tempuras were all perfection but I did not feel the need to dip them in the broth. I really like this spot because it is unique and they do a simple dish very well but I don't think it was good enough for me to come back (at least for the cold one). Maybe I would try the hot broth but I think the signature was slightly too yuzu-y for me despite me loving the noodle texture and the tempura. I am still glad I tried it though!

Came in on a friday night and got seated right away. The servers were nice and fast. I got the flat udon dipping noodles and they were SO GOOD. I love the texture of the noodles and the size. The dipping sauce is also really good, especially with the wasabi. Tempura was well fried and came with a sauce and salt on the side. I did not prefer dipping it in the salt because it was too salty for me, but the sauce added a nice savory quality. The bacon tempura was very interesting and very fatty. May not be for everyone. Inside was small, but added to the experience.

Food (5/5): - got their signature noodles in broth and wow! it was one of the best udon noodles I've ever had - noodles were very thick, chewy, and slippery. one thing to note about the broth option is that the temperature of the broth kind of cooks the noodles more over time. so when I was trying to dip it in the sauce, the noodles would break (and sometimes they would be a little too slippery) - I ordered the set so it also came with all the other tempura stuff. I think getting the set is a must. I particularly liked the shrimp tempura and the onion. The tempura bacon was interesting and shareable between two people. It was a bit heavy/overwhelming so I would recommend saving something lighter like your radish to eat after the bacon Service (5/5) - fast, friendly! - very attentive and thoughtful Ambiance (5/5) - pretty tight space! would not go here with more than one other person - good for casual meet ups!

Pretty solid udon in the wide style. I liked the cold noodles set more than the hot. The tempura bacon is a bit too much and I would replace it with shrimp.

It's unclear to me how the noodles served here are classified under "udon" as a species, as they bear more likeness to Chinese biang-biang noodles - chewy, flat, and wide. I'm also not used to having udon served with dipping sauce like zaru soba rather than in broth, so there were a host of new experiences for me to adjust to over lunch. The conclusion? A pleasant light lunch now that the crowds have died down somewhat, even if not life changing. The best bite was actually the tender sweet potato tempura, which as usual I preferred with a subtle dash of sea salt rather than dipping sauce.

Udon admittedly isn't my favorite but I ultimately did enjoy our meal here. Started with warm towels to wipe your hands off- a nice touch. We got one udon in broth and one dipping udon. I'm not sure which I preferred but maybe the former. The broth was just so clean and I felt like this udon was a skosh easier to eat physically. The dipping udon was great, don't get me wrong. But I felt like the sauce maybe overwhelmed the noodle a bit and it was more difficult to eat. I also wish we were given more noodles for dipping as there was so so much sauce left over. The real star of the dishes, though, are the fried sides. They were all incredible and so incredibly light in their fried-ness. They come with a salt dish or sauce to dip in and I definitely feel the salt worked better. We added on two extra shrimp and could have easily eaten many more of these. The vibe is crowded. They don't take names/no wait list so you just kind of wait around on line until enough seats are open. We didn't wait so long because the restaurant is super efficient in getting people in/out, but I could absolutely imagine the wait being wild (when we left the line was well out the door). I don't think they have a bathroom, FYI.

The udon comes in 6 wide strips. They had a nice chew/gumminess to it. The cold yuzu dipping broth had a nice balancing yuzu and soy flavor. You have an option to add a quail egg, scallions, and wasabi to the sauce depending on your preference. I recommend sticking to the traditional sauce and adding the scallions for a bit of freshness. The tempura set comes with jumbo shrimp, a huge slice of bacon, purple sweet potato, asparagus, and onion tempura. All was lightly battered and perfectly crispy. It didn't feel greasy. Note: All seating faces the wall or window. There are no tables where you can face your party. Highly recommend visiting! Will be coming again.

My second visit to Okiboru Udon. Their housemade udon is unquestionably phenomenal, but their tempura is even more outstanding imo. The complexity of their dipping sauce has largely improved compared to the last time I visited when they just opened. Each udon set comes with assorted tempura, including shrimp, applewood bacon, sweet potato, asparagus and onion. The tempura is perfectly fried without excessive oil. The batter is thin enough to wrap the meat or veggie while remaining crispy. My favorite tempura piece is the sweet potato and the wild caught jumbo shrimp. P.S. We arrived at 5pm when they opened on a Friday, and the restaurant was full within 30 min!!! ＊Matcha Zaru Dipping Udon w. Tempura The udon is infused with matcha powder, yet the matcha taste isn't too strong. It tastes like plain udon with a slight hint of bitterness from the matcha. It doesn't over power the sweet tanginess of the dipping broth. It has a richer flavor note after adding quail egg, scallion and mashed radish. I can even find yuzu skin in the sauce. ＊Himokawa Dipping Udon with Tempura My second time trying their himokawa dipping udon, and this time it's much easier to dip the udon into the sauce with this plating. The extra wide flat udon is chewy and smooth. The dipping sauce is the same as the one served with matcha udon. The portion is just right for me, but my bf did find it a little too small for his appetite. It is fun to try the himokawa style, but I personally still like the texture of the matcha udon more.

This has been on my bucket list for a while now, and I waited until the initial opening/hype died down a bit. It worked to my advantage because when my boyfriend and I ate here on a Friday evening, there was no line and seats available! We scanned the QR code by our seat to place our order of the Himokawa Dipping Udon with Tempura and Himokawa Udon in Broth with Tempura. Okiboru uses the system where you pay once you place your order (so you don't need to take time to pay once you're done with the meal). Our orders came out after about 10 minutes. I ordered the Udon in Broth, and I love me a good broth and noodle!! The broth was flavorful and the udon was great texture. Although they provide chopsticks, it's definitely more optimal to use the small wooden tongs to pick up the noodles, because thy are slippery. Bacon, Shrimp, Purple Sweet Potato, Asparagus, and Onion Tempura is part of the meal. The shrimp and onion were my favorites! The bacon was a bit salty for me, and what I enjoy most about tempura is either dipping it into sauce or salt, which was excessive for the rich and salty flavor of the bacon. I did appreciate that Okiboru serves the sauce and tempura salt (I wish Raku did that!). It took my boyfriend and I about 30 minutes to finish our meal. This place is definitely optimal for a quick bite and not a social dinner or outing, because there are so few seats, it is meant to dish out orders and churn seats quickly. As others have noted, there is no bathroom available for customers, which speaks to how small the space is and I guess also emphasizes they don't want their diners to be here too long... I would come back here because the udon was that good, in my opinion! Especially with no wait, it was worth a visit!

Definitely worth the wait! Small space so you should get in before opening if you want a spot! Tried to go in Tokyo and the wait was just as long so love that it's in NY now! The flat noodles are super unique and the broth is amazing. Love all the side tempura dishes as well. Everything is simple but prepared really well.

WORTH THE WAIT. We waited 1.5 hours for a Saturday night dinner (while it rained halfway through) to eat this meal. Their customer service is exemplary, giving us all umbrellas while we waited in the rain! The food was SO GOOD. I ordered the signature Dipping Udon Set. The noodles were a texture I've never had before, it's just the right amount of chewy and fresh. It came with tempura (asparagus, sweet potato, bacon, onion, shrimp). Literally every single one was delicious, even the asparagus which I was surprised about. Shrimp tempura was my fave. I would 1000% come back, They have truly perfected their craft.

Best for solo dining, small cozy space. I love the dipping sauce, ideal for a summer dish. We tried both the flat udon and the matcha udon. The flat udon is a tad softer and absorbed the dipping sauce well so we prefer that.

I really wanted to love this place since I first tried Godaime Hanayama Udon in Tokyo and absolutely loved wide himokawa udon noodles. I was super excited to see that they had himokawa udon noodles here. The restaurant is small and cozy so there might be a bit of a wait even if there isn't much of a line. We waited for 15-20 minutes after arriving at 7:30pm on a Friday night. The ordering system was pretty straightforward with only a few options (combination of udon - cold / hot and tempura). I really appreciated that they had a vegan option as well. The udon itself was unfortunately not as silky smooth as the ones we tried in Tokyo. I would have preferred a variety of dipping sauces (e.g., in Japan we had options include soy sauce, curry, sesame paste, etc.) especially because I found their dipping sauce to be a bit thin. Nevertheless, the meal was still enjoyable and I would recommend that you come just to try the wider udon!

The warm, and attentive staff over our heads made it feel inviting and also very nice. The place can be called cozy and at the same time vibrant, thus it is ideal for both romantic dates and casual get-togethers with friends. So, when you are looking for the right place that has tasty food and a friendly vibe, just go to Okibori!

I've been wanting to try this place ever since I saw it blow up on social media! And it was well worth the hype. I went with my mom around 1:30pm and it was not crowded at all! We sat at the bar which was comfortable. The wait staff was very friendly and was able to explain everything well, since it was our first time. We ordered the Himokawa dipping udon, which came with an incredible yuzu dipping sauce that I ended up drinking at the end because I couldn't get enough! The tempura was decent and the bacon tempura was definitely new. It was an amazing, fun and delicious experience and I definitely recommend it to anyone who's in the area!

Short wait on a Friday night for two and we ordered our sets. My cousin got the classic with chicken tempura and I got the vegan option with veggie tempura (no substitutions for tempura on that one). Overall really yum! The experience is so fun and the dipping broth they give you is also delicious. Definitely a little on the pricier side but you leave full and get to enjoy high quality udon! Definitely recommend!
