New Japanese Food Truck Little Nishi Serves Sushi in Austin | Eater Austin

"I noted that the food truck park at 1311 South First Street in the Bouldin Creek neighborhood is where Little Nishi is parked as of mid-September and that the park provides outdoor dine-in areas." - Nadia Chaudhury

Where to Eat and Drink on South First Street in Austin - Eater Austin

"Permanently parked on South First, this brightly painted food truck offers all-day breakfast tacos, salsas made from scratch, all done in the family tradition. Be sure to try the Padre taco with ancho-pulled pork, avocado, sautéed pineapple, and salsa fresca, which is a sure-fire winner." - Sommer Brugal

Good vibes, cool food trucks for human and for pups.

Yelp
Cute small little food truck park located south. I love the mini cheesecakes, and she had a lot of flavors.

Yelp
This has to be my most favorite food truck area to eat around ATX! The atmosphere is always warm and welcoming, day and night! The food is always yummy, and the company is always kind! It's always a plus when cute furry friends are a plus! It is also kid friendly too! I've tried every single food truck in this area and there is just too many good things to say about each and every vendor, from their cooking, and packaging to their service and friendliness!

Yelp
Food trucks parks are a distinctly Austin-ite art form, and this one is pretty good. I was invited here for a Yelp function and got to sample a number of delicacies on offer from the resident trucks. Of special note is the very good blueberry lemonade from Conscious Cravings, as well as a to-die-for selection of goat cheese from the Chivata Goat Cheese Truck. (Seriously, go check out their trailer and pick up one of their sandwiches, your tummy will thank you.) Pros: Outdoor and *indoor* seating - useful when it rains or bakes in Austin, which it can. Reasonable selection of food trucks, you'll find something to try. Bathroom facilities are fine and not port-a-potties. Cons: Some of the trucks hold odd hours on the weekend. Parking is at a premium, with about a dozen spots and 2 handicapped spots. You can find parking on the side streets but be careful crossing 1st Street as the traffic zooms by at light speed! All in all, this location is well worth a visit!

Yelp
Food trucks in Austin are an art form. And in South Austin, this art is unique and delicious. At the South Austin Trailer Park and Eatery, you can the world's flavors withing walking distance. Coffee? No problem. TexMex? Absolutely. Parking is a little tricky- but this place is sincerely fun and delicious.

Yelp
South Austin Trailer Park and Eatery is a must see for the more adventurous tourist. It's across the river and near some of the best restaurants in the city. It's a small plot of land with several top food trucks on the property including the famous Torchy's Tacos. On the property is outdoor seating and indoor seating to escape the heat and water areas everywhere to stay hydrated. It's a GREAT place to grab lunch before you explore ATX.

Yelp
A trailer park eatery is an extremely foreign concept for a native New Yorker, such as myself, so I found this place to be quite intriguing. I really liked how Austin has their food truck ordering down to a science (though, the addition of outdoor seating probably allows this process to be streamlined better than in places like Boston or NYC): you place your order, you're handed a number, and then a runner brings your food out to you. How nice! The seating area was also well kept and clean, even for a trailer park cafeteria. If I can be quite frank, this entire eatery is worth visiting for Torchy's alone. I'm aware that it's a chain in Austin, but goodness, is it a good chain. I think there's only one other food truck in this particular eatery, so I really hope you're in the mood for Tex-Mex if you decide to come here.

Yelp
Food trucks are a fun concept and Austin has a lot of them. Not only that, but Austin has a lot of *good* food trucks and several of them are right here at the South Austin Trailer Park & Eatery. What I like about this food truck park is it exudes Texas, from the dusty dirt and gravel lot to the rustic-looking trailers. Even the chain-linked line markers are made from worn-out truck parts such as old wheels. Driving by, you'd think you were passing just another trailer park. The park has eateries such as the popular Torchy's Tacos, Holy Cacao (fine desserts), and Conscious Cravings (wraps, salads, smoothies). Aside from the food trucks themselves, I really like this spot for a few additional reasons: 1. Free parking. 2. Plenty of seating, covered and uncovered. 3. Free water. 4. Restrooms. The covered seating area even has TVs inside. A fantastic job by the folks who put this together. They seemed to have thought of everything. If you're visiting Austin, I highly recommend checking this place out. Just a brisk walk across the river from downtown.

Yelp
Fun and quirky lunch spot - just as it should be in Austin! We enjoyed the variety of choices and would recommend for out of town visitors!

Yelp
Whatever food items you decide to purchase here, the fun part of the visit is the great gold-painted wall assemblage of cast-off items. It's a modern-day nod to Louise Nevelson.

Yelp
Bought a couple t-shirts. Manager bent over backwards in service But of course the food was even better. Try the Mr Orange

Yelp
OK, now I have really seen all the world has to offer, and feel I can die a happy man. In no town in the world can I see a trailer park/parking garage/burger stand/taco stand working so well, but this is Austin and it is GLORIOUS!!! The South Austin Trailer Park and Eatery is a hip little spot to get your taco and burger on. If you don't know about Torchy's Tacos you haven't been paying attention and thankfully we have now been graced with another creation by the same trailer food stand king: Shuggie's Burgers. The combination of these two Goliaths of trailer park cuisine is an ingenious way to make South Austin even more South Austiny. Now, to what we had... A few of us were thinking of where to grab a bite to eat after a day of athletic feats and friendly competition at the park. We all wanted something greasy, good, and on the go; so the Trailer Park was a fitting solution to our Sunday afternoon cravings. Between the three of us, we tried The Democrat, The Brushfire, two burgers, the Ice Cream Battered Onion Rings and the French Fries. Our entire meal was created by hand, and grilled up to perfection in separate trailers and was all ready at roughly the same time. We munched, we played ping pong, we didn't want to leave. The food is fabulous, the atmosphere is one of a kind and this is a spot everyone is Austin should enjoy. Cheers, BRING YOUR OWN BEERS!

Yelp
This is the perfect spot to get a break from work. There are 3 food trailers in this park: Torchy's Tacos (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED), Holy Cacao (for dessert), and Conscious Carvings (for you health conscious people). There is even a water dispenser where you can quench your thirst! I love the weird decor on the front of the "building", it's a bunch of random stuff plastered on the wall then spray painted GOLD (I'm talking Guitar Hero guitar, antique dolls, trophies, it looked like something out of a page of an I Spy book). On the inside walls is someone's description of this place. Try your luck on comprehending that! There are plenty of wood benches under a shaded area which will also protect you on rainy, windy, or sunny days. And a TV for your entertainment. And when you're done with your meal, there is a separate game room in which they have a foosball table, ping pong, and shuffleboard? A great place to hang out with your friends during lunch time. There is a decent amount of parking in this lot. Please make sure not to park in front of another person's car, it's not cool!

Yelp
I met up with a group today to have Torchy's for the first time at this spot and wasn't sure what to expect, because I've heard a lot of hype. Well, Torchy's lived up to it. We got a couple of each of the 14 types (I think it was that many) of tacos and it was good all around. I had the Republican (grilled sausage, cheese and pico de gallo with poblano sauce on a corn tortilla) and the Democrat (shredded beef barbacoa with avocado, queso fresco, cilantro, onions, and a slice of lime with tomatillo sauce on a corn tortilla). I am bi-partisan when it comes to tasty tacos.

Yelp
This is home to the original Torchy's Tacos! Very yummy and a great casual place to eat! Very relaxing here. Don't worry that it's a food trailer, they have a place that's a covered eating structure that has walls and heaters during the colder times of year, and they have it opened up during the warmer times of year so it's cooler, but out of rain. This is just a really cool place to go!
google avatar

Yelp
Exceeded my expectations! The name, "Trailer Park Eatery," didn't really create images of grandure... I finally took the opportunity to hit up Torchy's. I had a fried avocado taco and the green chile pork taco. Both were tasty and not too greasy. I also had the chips and queso, which I actually rank above the tacos. My fiance had the Rambler burger from Shuggie's complete with deep fried bacon. That's right, DEEP FRIED BACON. Ridiculous!! I thought the atmosphere was fun and laid back - very "Austin-y." I especially enjoyed the smores area, which I'll have to try out at some point. I enjoyed TPE overall, but the parking can get a little congested/complicated. Another plus - you can bring your dog and BYOB. We didn't do it, but we saw people that did both. I also consider this the first trailer park restaurant row in Austin since it was formed before the SoCo madness.
google avatar

Kristie A.

Yelp
Unfortunately I didn't get to eat here (I was full from an earlier lunch), but the friends I were with did have lunch. One friend ordered from Shuggie's and had a veggie sandwich. She loved it. My other friends ordered from Torchy's and had some tacos that looked wonderful. I love the concept of the trailer park theme where you walk up and order from the window, and then have your pick of picnic tables to sit at. I'm all about outdoor things. I wish I would have known you could bring your own booze. Next time I'm in Austin and go here, I will!! :)
google avatar

George C.

Yelp
Although the URL goes to Torchy's Tacos, perhaps the flagship, there are a couple other vendors here depending when you go, plus an indoor area, but nothing remarkable deserving a title over other similar lots.
google avatar

Julie G.

Yelp
This who thing was luda! There were only two trailers. I love Torchy's - but Torchy's is all over the place, we don't need a food trailer park dedicated to it. The only other trailer there was Holy Cacoa. Cake Balls aren't dinner. I took a group or work people from out of town, and then we left and walked across the street because there was only Torchy's! Everyone has already had that.
google avatar

Ryan L.

Yelp
This "trailer park" consists of three food trailers in the South of Austin: - Man Bites Dog - Holy Cacao - Torchy's Taco's I've eaten at Torchy's and Holy Cacao and both are excellent. The trailer park is nice enough. It could really use more parking though. There are several picnic tables and outdoor dinette sets out near the road under some trees. It's BYOB so you can save some bucks by eating some great food here instead of at some more expensive restaurant. The only thing I would improve is an addition of a couple more food carts and better parking, otherwise this park is terrific.
google avatar

Miyoko R.

Yelp
Except for the fact that it was freakin' hot when we went, and there's not much to keep you cool when the tacos heat you up, so bring some ice cold beers (which you CAN bring your own cooler, 12 pack, whatever!) we had an excellent food experience! Had the fried avocado taco, and jerked chicken taco with mango salsa... YUM!!!!! Brought my kids, who enjoyed the bench swing and dessert trailer (awesome smores packs, shave ice, and cupcakes!) but they also roamed the grounds around the picnic benches and enjoyed the quesadillas and chips. Very casual down-to-earth place to eat with friends or family, parking is on the lot, I imagine if it's real busy you may have to find some elsewhere. Once the weather cools down, you'll want to stay and hang out at the smore pit, or just enjoy the tunes.... not live music the day we went, not sure if they offer it. Grab a bite for dinner, then head over to the Downtown Bridge to see the bats at twilight.
google avatar

Kari M.

Yelp
Wasn't sure what to expect out of the Torchy's from a trailer. But it was actually one of the most pleasant Torchy's experiences yet. There are so many cool little picnic tables and a lot of them are shaded. I haven't eaten at the other trailers (Man Bites Dog and the chocolate place) but I would totally eat there. I saw a group of friends come in off the water in bathing suits with a six of beer just hanging out and having a good time. The only problem I see with it is the parking situation. We had to make up a spot to park in and then watch other people try to do the same thing and almost block us in. I'd love to go back and hang out under the trees and try a different trailer.
google avatar

Rosni P.

Yelp
Cool place to eat, mainly came here for torchys. Be careful of the birds that try to come after your food if you sit outside.
google avatar

Allison B.

Yelp
Wow, amazing tacos at Torchy's. Had a Green Chili Pork and Fried Avocado Taco. The pork taco won for most amazing flavor in a taco ever. The fried avocado - while novel just didn't have enough flavor for me. But WHOA hold up, the queso! Are you kidding me? AMAZING. I'm a queso convert. Cali, west-coast girl meets Texas boy who introduces me to queso. I thought, "this is such ridiculousness and sooo bad for you" little did I know how so so good it tastes! But the Torchy's queso? Best, hands down I've ever had. I could eat it every day until my first heart attack and still be happy I did.
google avatar

Bruce B.

Yelp
Allows Dogs, Best Queso Ever! If you like avocados or not you will love the queso from Torchy's! Portobello Tacos were amazing! This is a must while in South Austin! This place has outdoor and covered seating.
google avatar

Chey O.

Yelp
Review of this location's Torchy's: I like this location, but it definitely isn't my favorite. There was a longer wait, and the options for seating are limited. Nonetheless, it is great food! There are also a few other food trucks in the area to try. When the weather in Austin isn't deciding to be hot or hotter, this is a great place to go for it's outdoor seating when you can find a spot.
google avatar

Suzie B.

Yelp
Who knew how much fun it could be to indulge in the awesomeness of Torchy's from a trailer, sit at a picnic table with good friends, laughing and talking so loudly that you could swear everyone around us is going to be offended, but everybody else is having a grand time underneath the oak trees, with the cool spring breeze, excellent food, ice chests, hay bales, South Austin at her best? Longest sentence ever? Who cares? Check it out, Austinites!
google avatar

Megan L.

Yelp
I know, I know, I'm drinking the trailer kool-aid. In fact, I'm drowning in it. As if Torchy's or a gourmet hot dog wasn't tempting enough they had to bring in Holy Cacao. Whether hot chocolate or hot toddies are your cup of tea, they have every hot beverage you can imagine in order to enjoy these next few months we call "winter." Not only can I walk to this place, which has proven to be incredibly dangerous for my waist line, but now I can have s'mores? I may have to figure out what this whole "working out" thing is if I want to keep venturing down there. Definitely a great place to take your tourist friends for a good viewing and tasting of 78704. There is no place like home.
google avatar

Staci D.

Yelp
Pretty cool idea for permanent food trucks with picnic table style seating. Best tacos ever!! Trailer Park (trash style), Democrat, and a Crossroads....omg...all of them were so good!!
google avatar

Alex C.

Yelp
Fried avocado tacos ruin my diet, are surely terrible for me (how much fat is in that again?), and are difficult to eat. But they are as close to religion as I get. This place is awesome. The food is insanely good, cheap, and fast.
google avatar

Tara M.

Yelp
I went to the Trailer Park last Thursday for a "Home For The Holidays" Event to benefit the families of the "Fort Hood Tragedy" and I am happy that 10% of the money I spent went to those families.... Holy Cacao was serving "Liquid S'mores" spiked with Dripping Springs Vodka and 1921 Tequila! And, I am proud to say I ate Cake Balls:)
google avatar

Heidi S.

Yelp
Torchy's is worth the hype! The tacos and queso were all incredible. This trailer park is a nice little area, but there isn't much variety. We came for Torchy's, so we were happy. Outdoor seating was nice and we appreciated the free self-serve cold water. The employees of the food truck itself weren't super friendly, but the food made up for it. I'm not worried about superb service at a food trailer park.
google avatar

Holly P.

Yelp
1. My dog is welcome. 2. BYOB 3. Torchy's plus Shuggies 4. Gravel driveway, dirt floors, shade trees 5. Shuggies sells chicken-fried bacon! I am loose with my love for South Austin!
google avatar

Monica M.

Yelp
Dear Trailer Park, Who thought of you? Who has that claim to fame? Can you introduce them to me? Really, the stuff I find in your backyard is amazing. I can get the tastiest tacos five hours from the RGV, the best cake balls on a stick around, AND a gourmet hotdog. Wow. I'm impressed. First. Torchy's. Wow. The Green Pork Chile - on corn, no onions (due to my unfortunate allergy) - is amazing. Thank god they provide a lime on the side. That just keeps it real! There is queso blanco and every-ting! That, plus the Green Chile Queso .. makes a perfect weekend. Holy Cacao! I had a milkshake from there yesterday afternoon whilst killing time with my dog.. this had to have been the best "Frozen Hot Chocolate" I've ever had. I almost had to pry it out of my boyfriend's hands. We'll be seeing you soon. Stay Classy.
google avatar

Yelp
Everything is perfect. The apple salad is crisp and tasty. Duo duck to die for. Modern decor, throw back attitude.

Yelp
I was in Austin this past weekend for ACL and I had heard some good things about the Trailer Park so likewise I had to give it a try. It was pretty quiet there on Saturday night most likely since most people were busy with ACL, but the food for the most part was out of this world. So if you have been to this place, its basically 3 food stands set up in this benched pic nic area. Its a very cool set up and has a very nice feel to it. It was dark when we got there, and there was some candles on all of the tables providing ample lighting. The 3 stands were Torchy's Tacos Man Bites Dog Cacao SomethingIDontRememberButThatsOkBecauseItKindaSuckedAnyhow. Being from out of town, I hit all 3. At Torchy's I started with the Green Chile based on the stand ladies suggestion, and goodness she was right on the money. That is hands down the best taco I have ever had in my entire life. It trumps all this tex-mex junk I have had in Texas and the taco trailer I had in Waco. It is delicious. Pricey, but delicious. The spice had a nice feel to it and the flavors were just unbelievable. I also had the Brushfire Taco which had a mix of Mango and Jalapeno. YEAH it was good and the red sauce it came with was delicious. I finished the entire tacos and poured the sauce all over those puppies. Here is where my awesome experience sort of ends however. The next stand I hit up was Man Bites Dog. Apparently it won some award for best non traditional hot dog for its Buffalo Dog, yippee. My friend ordered that and while I suppose the Buffalo dog did in fact taste like a buffalo wing, the overall hotdog was nothing noteworthy. It was exactly as I would imagine, and exactly as described. A hot dog doused and covered in buffalo sauce. I myself had a chicken sausage dog. Maybe its just me but I did not quite like the flavor of the Chicken Sausage. My hotd og also had mushrooms ans swiss cheese on it, both of which were very enjoyable and delicious. The chicken just had some hint of flavor in it that I could not swallow. I would stick to the beef franks next time around. Last was the Caocao Whateveryoucallit. This place is known for its coffee ? and Cakeballs ? I am not an avid coffee drinker, but I wanted to give the cake balls a shot. I ordered 3 cake balls for 5$, yeah I know I was drooling at the time. I have one word to describe the cake balls. FAIL. Out of the 3 cake balls, we only finished 1. It was the caramel apple pecan one, and while that cake ball was bearable, it wasn't even what I would describe as delicious. The cake batter had this wet mushy consistency to it, almost as if it was uncooked raw dough. The other cake ball was the Pumpkin one, nothing special, not very sweet. One of the cake balls was advertised as yellow cake covered in chocolate. We ordered it. It was not yellow cake, it was chocolate cake covered in chocolate. I didn't even see that on the menu there, wtf. HOW DAT HAPPEN ?! No idea, anyways if you go there only the apple pecan cake ball is worth eating, otherwise I would not bother going here. Unfortunately I was hoping the experience overall would be wonderful, I mean everyone talks about how cool the trailer park is. OH I almost forgot, so like I said earlier, we arrived there and it was already very dark out. The only light source were candles on the tables. As we were leaving, after we tried to force someone to finish the last 2 crappy cake balls, the generator suddenly turns on, and there is light everywhere. Apparently they did have lights pointing at the tables and lighting the areas where you can walk, but they just didn't have them on. Its like almost 9:00 PM and theres maybe like 2 people there eating and they finally decide to turn the lights on ?!!! Im confused. Aren't you ?

Yelp
Having vacationed in a double wide trailer in Port Isabel, TX for the better part of my life, I can guarantee this is not a real trailer park style. Too young, too hip, too many teeth. HOWEVER, its a fantastic concept. Gone are the days spent driving up and down streets trying to find "that one trailer that sells that stuff". Eating off a truck, a trailer, any kind of mobile eatery has its own special flavor. The food is strangely better -- either b/c they dont change the grease out or because of the gastrointestinal adventure. Regardless, I will bring people here because its fun and kitschy and has a variety of offerings that are all pretty damn good. It gets four stars for concept, food flavor, and for showing dazed and confused last night with byob and lawn chairs. Now THATS some trailer park fun.
google avatar

Anna Z.

Yelp
Such a cool place with a collection of food trucks. For the amount of space, having three trucks is reasonable but I wish they had more choices. Compared to the food truck parties I've been to in California like off the grid, it seems like the food truck scene in Austin is awesome but they are all spread out which can be annoying if you're visiting and are ubering everywhere. There isn't one location with a ton of trucks that are all opened. I went to Holy cacao for frozen hot chocolate and torchys tacos for tacos. There was plenty of seating under the shade as well as in the giant room. But they kicked us out of the room since there was a private party. Nevertheless, it's a cool place and they give you free iced water which is much needed in this weather.

Yelp
Best Taco ever! Fresh ingredients from an awesome looking truck! Make sure you try the Migas with the incredible slice of avocado!

Yelp
(warning: I did go on a ridiculously hot day (aka a typical Texas summer day) so that probably influenced my review on this place) A good idea in theory. A one-stop-shop for food trailers. Genius! But there were only 2 trailers open?? I was expecting a good handful of options at this place...? But a pretty shabby parking sitch. A clusterf@*$, if you will. The pavillion (shade! shade!!) was a welcomed find. It had tables, chairs, fans, and even a TV if you can't eat without one. I would get more excited about this place if there were more trailer options. I need options people. And also if we didn't have to navigate through the car-filled dustbowl that is "the parking lot".

Yelp
Cruised by for dinner around 6:30 last night, but there was only Torchy's there? Kind a bummer. Ended up eating elsewhere but came back for dessert at Treat. I was tempted by moonpies and other goodies, but I got the Smore's. OH. MY. GOD. I didn't know what to expect but was blown away. tucked into a chinese takeout container was a whole packet of graham crackers, an entire Hershey's chocolate bar, sticks, wet naps, and the best part: two homemade marshmallows. I got butterscotch and chocolate chipoltle. The way-cool- gal who was running it lit an actual fire pit and I proceeded to have an orgasmic experience crafting my smores. Un-friggin-believable. I had marshmallow and chocolate all over me. Awesome. I would give this place 6 stars if I could. No joke.

Yelp
Review Note: This is meant to be read with the other reviews already posted. Others have sung Torchy's praises quite nicely. I'm not a hater, just wanted to point out a few things. -------------------------- I'm a fan of this place, but think it's worth another review. Like the other folks on Yelp!, I'm a fan of the food at both Torchy's and the burger place. It's darn tasty. Actually, it's pretty addicting. But still, I don't think Torchy's is the heaven on earth that others do. Let's start when you arrive. The line, it's slow. Slower than I would think it should be. I can't figure out why, but it is. The kitchen seems to always be backed up. Don't let this discourage you from going, just know that this isn't the solution for a quick bite to eat. Now, on to the nibbles. The food is great, but on the extra greasy side, even for Mexican. While I mention it's Mexican, I need to add that it isn't Mexican-Mexican or even TexMex. It's its own variety of Mexican. A damn good variety as long as you're not expecting one of the other Mexicans. Okay, back to the greasy. I like fried food. I love a respectable amount of grease. But Torchy's has excessive grease. I've gotten to the point that I won't even order the chips and queso or guacamole because the chips are so greasy they're wet. This is a shame because the queso is very, very good. Tacos. The same. I like the shrimp tacos. They're fried. They seem to come with a side of grease. Makes me want to cry. Okay, on to the good, because I really do dig this place! The vibe - fantastic, South Austin outdoor style. Basically you're eating in a hay covered parking lot. Great for kids and dogs alike. Wind can be dangerous though, it gets dirt and hay in your food. The food - overall, it's nice, spicy goodness. Just know that you'll get all the grease you need for the week in one sitting. Booze - bring your own. Always a plus as long as you remember. Price - on the expensive side for tacos. Dare I say overpriced? In a town like Austin, you can't swing a dead rat without hitting a good taco joint. Torchy's is way low on the value scale.

Yelp
The eatery currently contains three different places to try, Torchy's, Man Bites Dog, and Holy Cacao. Torchy's is Torchy's. It's really good and there's always a line there. If you haven't had Torchy's yet, you're missing out. Go try it at any of the locations around Austin. I've had two sausages at Man Bites Dog, the Big Fat Greek Sausage and the Reuben. The Reuben is good. The sausage in there very tasty and meaty. The special Russian sauce is just so so. The Greek's lamb sausage is great, tasting just like a gyro on a bun. All the toppings are fresh. Holy Cacao is a chocolate lover's heaven. I don't do sweets often but the assortment on the menu is amazing. The selection of cakeballs is insane. They have gourmet hot chocolate. Everyone who I've taken here likes it. The negatives of the place is the parking but there is some across the street. Just try not to get ran over crossing 1st. There's plenty of seating though. I've been back already since I first tried the place.

Yelp
Whoever said trailer parks are a bad thing, obviously didn't come to the South Austin Trailer Park & Eatery. Prices were good. Food was great. I had the fajita plate, which was awesome, but need to try the tacos everyone keeps raving about someday. Loved the cool seating area outside. The only downside with that is that, being outside can also mean a some bugs flying here and there. That's the only downside, but really its not that bad. Its a perfect place to have a a chill dinner, with great food, without cleaning out your wallet.

Yelp
I always have a hard time explaining to family & friends from out of state that really good food here is served in trailers, but once they come here, they understand. The tacos from the Torchy's trailer are, IMO, far superior to what you get in their actual stores. The cake balls from Holy Cacao are delicious, plus there are endless jokes to be made about "cake balls". Haven't tried Man Bites Dog yet but it's on the list. The food coming out of it looks delicious. The only downside is the lack of seating during peak times, but people are friendly and you usually end up sharing a table with a few strangers.

Yelp
I've been here a few times and have often ordered two tacos even though I know that one will fill me up because they're just that delicious. My standard favorites are the Monk's special breakfast taco, and the Democrat taco. This time I had their special taco of the month... which is generally amazing but especially so this month, so go before they stop making it, ok? The special of the month is the Fried Turkey taco which has fried turkey, Mexican rice, mole, fresh avocado, queso fresco and cilantro. I could've done without the rice, but it was all so delicious I had to get a fork to make sure I didn't leave any behind. I got mole all over my hands and licked my fingers clean instead of using a napkin. Yum. :)

Yelp
This little park is so cute. There is outdoor seating and then a covered indoor picnic area inside. They have bathrooms as well. Parking is a little difficult but you can park on the side streets without an issue.

Yelp
It seems weird that I'm going to write about tacos and hot dogs in the same review, but here goes.... We picked this place on Yelp after realizing that most good eating in Austin is done out of trailers. The fried avocado taco at Torchy's was amazingly decadent, even without the poblano ranch sauce. My companion called his pork taco "transcendent." The Mexican cokes were a lovely treat too. Our only complaint was that some of our chips were stale. If we had eaten all of our chips, we might not have needed to try Man Bites Dog. I noticed they had a veggie chili cheese dog on the menu and not being down with the chili cheese concept in general, I inquired if they could make their other "styles" of dogs with a veggie wiener. Affirmative. In honor of my sweet home Chicago, I chose the "Abe Froman" (LOVE the "Ferris Bueller" reference). I have to say that I'm shocked that nearly 1200 miles from the Windy City they could come so close to nailing the "Garden on a Bun" concept. It was almost all there, down to the neon-green relish and celery salt. The bun was delicious even though it wasn't traditional poppyseed style. I would have only added sport peppers to ramp up its authenticity. This is a fun spot. I enjoyed the dining area--lights festooned over a stand of picnic tables. I only wish I had room to try something from the "drinkable chocolate" trailer.

Yelp
I came here a month ago for lunch, the weather was just perfect and we chose to eat at Torchy's. It really is a wonderful idea... sitting out on picnic tables under oak trees, perhaps sharing a table with others if it is busy - very nice vibe. the one downside is the parking.... it can be rough if you try to park in their 'lot' during rush hours. Perhaps, and I did not pay attention, there is more parking around the corner. I had a great experience there and will be sure to return.

Yelp
Definitely the place to be this time of year. And it showed with a ridiculously long line at Torchy's today. BUT, there are two other trailers to explore! Shuggies had little to no line (note: there are separate lines, despite what it may look like sometimes), so we opted for burgers today. The burgers look good, but I'm a vegaquarian, so I had to pass on what looked to be awesome burgers. I got the vegetarian sammich. Panko-crusted portabellos, sauteed spinach, roasted red peppers, green chiles, avocado and some kinda sauce. The sammich was good. Not the best I've had, but pretty darn good. The real problem here was that the way they served it you couldn't have more than maybe two of those ingredients in your mouth at one time. It's served in a half-sliced roll, which turns your sammich from a horizontally eaten creature to a vertically challenging mess. I'd like to know what it all tasted like together in my mouth. Yeah, I know what I just said, get your minds out of the gutter! ONION RINGS! They were damn good. They were the crumbly kind, not the giant fluffy kind. The sauce they came with was tasty with a but of spice. The crumbly nature of the rings didn't make for good, clean dipping, but heck the crumbles tasted just fine by themselves in the sauce! Nice. LAH-DEE DAH & TREAT This is a newer addition, where you can go inside to look around the cute little airstream that sells unique gifts, artwork, and plants that you apparently have to work really hard to kill. Maybe I should get some of those. But I know my cats would put forth plenty of effort on my part. AND on the outside of the trailer, you can order Campfire Smores (for two or four), and that means they'll build you a fire to cook them over! Neat! They also boast the best pralines in town. I was too full from my Chocolate Malt, or I may have taken that challenge. Oh, and they sell Advil, Condoms, Brownies, and something called the Banana Blender Surprise (a Moon Pie and an RC Cola), which I think you have to be a Houstonian from the right era to really appreciate that joke. Heck with that combination of things, you could have a rock star weekend! In any case, I'm rambling, so I'll stop here. But I'll be back! With booze and ready for my Moon Pie!

Yelp
Such a fun place! Food was delicious! Ordered "torchy's tacos." It was wonderful! Definitely would go back!
