Honestly did not have a bad time here. Sure the units are small and a little overpriced, but you're kind of paying for the area too which was great. Amazing restaurants around, especially Kalish and Sam and Gertie's, which are both Vegan, a barbershop, the Abode kids area, and a brand new garden and furniture store. Not only that, but you're very close to Target, Aldi, Jewel, and Marianos, the Aragon Ballroom, Petco, Petsmart, Walgreens, Staples, the Post Office. Honestly the area was great and it made me sad to leave.
I also enjoyed the security of the building. I'd previously been robbed and my landlords before took a long time to fix the windows in my unit. So the fact that the building after hours is locked and both elevators and the stairwell require fobs was a bonus for me. And that I also lived on the seventh floor where no one could break in was a plus. That and the view.
My unit didn't really have any maintenance issues. There was one the entire year I lived there and it was fixed within 48 hours. One reviewer says they weren't given notice, and you aren't, but when you send in the request it does say by sending in this request, we reserve the right to come in and fix it without notice, which was fine by me, as long as it gets fixed. They did leave a note when I got home so that I knew they had been there. Upon checking, I discovered the issue fixed and it wasn't a problem again.
One negative I have are the common areas. The patio was crowded a lot on nice days, especially on holidays like the 4th of July and Labor Day. I suggest going in the late morning/early afternoon when no one was up there. The fitness center was a little small and could get crowded. Not to mention there was someone there doing fitness classes for people who didn't live in the building. I didn't like the fact she was letting strangers in to a space that was already limited. If you're not paying rent, you shouldn't be allowed to use the common spaces.
Another issue I had was the lockout procedure, which made me miss physical keys. The batteries on my door died, and then my fob expired, and both times you have to call a separate company, leave a message, and wait for someone to come around to let you in. Both these times took between 20-40 minutes. I never lost or left my fob in my apartment, so I never had an improper lockout, but to have to pay $150 IN CASH is absurd to me. I don't carry cash, and in a world that's relying more on debit and credit, I think this policy should be changed.
Sorry for the long review, but I'm hoping it helps in whatever decision you make. CLK wasn't bad, and they responded to all my requests in a timely manner. They were very communicate throughout, always providing building updates and safety concerns. Personally I didn't mind it here, and the only reason I moved was to be closer to my job.
