1369 Coffee House Review - Cambridge - Boston - The Infatuation

"This Cambridge-based coffee house, with locations in Inman and Central Square, is a staple for many Cantabridgians. While the interior design has a distinctly retro feel (and not in the trendy sense), you’re really here for the good coffee and spicy egg breakfast sandwiches anyway. And if you’re coffee-averse, then there’s also a much-better-than-average tea menu that includes Thai iced tea as well." - Joel Ang

Excellent coffee, but subpar pastries. I had a great espresso: bull-bodied and rich. I also tasted my wife's drip coffee. It was as good as my expresso. The pastries, however, were not as good. I had a raspberry square (or perhaps another berry, cannot recall exactly). It was very sweet. I tasted my wife's scone and found it too salty for my taste (I confess: I'm used to eat with very little salt and detect salt in food which my family does not find salty). My daughter's ham and cheese croissant was OK -not great: not bad. A plus, at least for us, is that outdoor seating allows pets, so our dog was with us.

Loved it. The line was a little long but they were moving. I had an egg n cheese on sourdough and an iced blueberry latte. Great coffee and great food.

Google
1369 has really come down hill - I ordered four items, and only 2 were made correctly. My latte was made as a small, but I had ordered a large. The barista corrected it for me, but when they poured it into the larger cup, they lost all the syrup (which I paid extra for), and didn't mix in the extra espresso. Tasted fine, but not the flavored latte I paid $8 for. Then when I got home, I realized that the Rocket sandwich was missing the arugula (aka the ingredient that makes it the 'rocket'). For $34, not the most impressive experience. I've been coming to 1369 for 10 years as a 'treat' on weekends. It might have just been a bad day, but I'm not going to rush back any time soon.

Google
A few in our group got the strawberry vanilla matcha which was a miss for us, there wasn’t much flavor at all on all fronts. One of the drinks had noticeably no pink and no strawberry flavor compared to the others. Love the aesthetic of the menu though.

Google
The beast quality and prices. I used to go to the most pricy coffee in the country only for the high quality of its products. Until I tried 1369 and I amazed with the coffee test. My original country famous with coffee, the highest quality in the world. It takes me a sip of black coffee to till the level of the coffee quality and I know immediately that 1369 coffee is really pure coffee. I also get my large healthy iced match with almond milk no sugar from 1369 every morning. Try the rock sandwich in bird if you don’t like bagels like me ask to add smoked salmon if you like it too. The prices are low comparing with the quality, the amount and the service. For some reason all the employees are cute smiling lovely I guess the store hired all of them from the same Beehive💚 love everything about 1369 central square🌹

Google
(Central sq loc.) My favorite neighbor coffee shop with some of the best bagels I’ve had in the area. The staff is typically great, except nearing closing time. You will be waiting and have been given a spitefully short amount of cream cheese on several occasions. I’m a 3-5x a week regular, so it’s just a bit disappointing. Looking forward to Inman sq loc. to reopen soon

Google
I love this coffeehouse, it’s simple and unassuming but has a very community vibe. Staff are friendly and kind and there are a lot of tables for two. The Asiago bagel with avocado was great. Good place to sit and read a book, but there aren’t many outlets I see so it may be hard to study here, and there also aren’t many large tables for groups. I definitely recommend this place!

Google
Cute coffee house chain in Central Square. I like the laid back vibes, comprehensive menu, and seating. It’s a great spot to meet someone for coffee. There is some seating outside. Their lattes were good with a nice stable foam.

Yelp
The egg and cheese on a sea salt bagel was amazzinngggg! Eggs were scrambled and still kind of runny (my fave) and the bagel was extremely salty but in a good way. The bagel, drip coffee and side of cream cheese came out to be $14- a bit more than I'd like to spend on breakfast but worth it for the quality.

Yelp
Ordered ahead online for an espresso this morning as I would be nearby, hoping for a quick pick up experience upon arrival. Unfortunately, the espresso was not ready for about 25 more minutes. And the bathrooms were in even more unfortunate shape, sadly, to the point of not being usable. I feel very sympathetic to the staff attempting to deliver a top notch cafe experience with the challenges of Central Square, but at the same time I can't say the wait time and condition of the place met my expectations. Hope 1369 can hang on to this location and improve though.

Yelp
Cosy cafe in Central Square. Good selection of hot drinks, pastry and sandwiches. Love the artwork by local artists on display. Counter service only, but staff are generally friendly and efficient.

Yelp
My family and I had a great breakfast at 1369 Coffee House. My mom and I ordered the rocket breakfast sandwich, and it was so fresh and delicious. My sister ordered a bagel, and she really loved how she was able to customize it, and she said it was yummy. The coffee was great too, and there are so many flavors to choose from. The portions of the food are satisfying, and the prices are very decent. The cafe itself has such a cozy vibe, it feels very relaxed and has such a nice ambience. Also, the servers are so friendly. Overall, I had a great experience and would definitely recommend this place!

Yelp
While running errands I stumbled across this coffee shop. I ordered the cinnamon walnut coffee cake and hot chocolate. Really good!
google avatar

Yelp
Good esspreso with a variety of hommade syrups which I love. I tried the salted caramel and it was a very muted flavor but the taste of the beans was good enough that it was okay. Next time I would ask for more syrup. They were super busy so it took a while but not too bad on the wait. I also tried their coffee cake which was good, nothing special though. Would definitely recommend the coffee

Yelp
I came because someone told me she wanted to have a regular place to get coffee every morning, and that this was the one. She stuck with it for years. I went and understood why. Food was great and the staff was so friendly. The ambiance is comfortable and sitting by the window is a great experience of Cambridge.

Yelp
1369 is a nice little spot right in Central Square. It was fairly busy in the morning, but there was plenty of staff behind the counter and they all seemed to work very in sync so the line moved surprisingly quickly for 9am. There were a lot of syrup options and drink types to choose from. Even for being early in the morning, it was fairly grimy and dirty inside and felt like it had not been thoroughly cleaned in a while. There is a small outdoor seating area and there is a self-serve area to add sugar and grab a straw at the end of the counter. The small cold brew (12 oz) was $4.10 and was mild in taste. It did cost $1 to add almond milk, which frankly is a lot, so it came to $5.19 after tax. This is about the cost you'd pay at a chain coffee shop, but I would still opt to support local shops instead when possible.

Yelp
Nice ambiance and service. Loved the sandwich rocket. Wasn't a big fan of their coffee felt the iced coffee was bit watered up
google avatar

Neha D.

Yelp
Had to wait about 10 minutes on a Monday morning to order + receive my coffee. Pretty standard menu - got a vanilla oat milk latte iced and it was good! There's a few tables inside to work/study/eat at
google avatar

Carlie C.

Yelp
1369 is a cute coffee shop, a great place to meet friends or get some work done. The coffee is pretty standard, and there is typically a long wait because it's usually very crowded. It's got a great vibe inside and plenty of seating despite being small.
google avatar

Neha K.

Yelp
Love being walking distance to 1369, particularly when I'm craving a bagel with my coffee! Their Asiago bagels with scallion cream cheese do not disappoint! I also appreciate that they have both decaf coffee and espresso drinks. As a heads up, ordering is in person only on weekends and the space fills up- on a Sunday morning at 10am, all the seats were occupied. Overall, a much loved local coffee joint.

Yelp
Coffee house has THE BEST chocolate chip cookie in the area. A fresh chocolate chip cookie from here is amazing. The edges are crispy, the middle slightly soft, the chocolate not overly sweet, ugh sooo good. The front staff are mostly friendly. The drinks are good as well. I've had the golden milk latte (actually very good here), lemonade, and the regular latte here. The other pasties are also nice, have yet to try the sandwiches. The bathrooms are not that great but what do you expect from a popular cafe. The ambiance is chill, reminds me of a college cafe spot with the wooden tables and bustling environment. Definitely check it out.
google avatar

Angelina Z.

Yelp
I stopped by for a mid-day coffee break and got the malted cold brew. Loved the subtle sweetness, but the coffee tasted rather weak and watered down. It was pretty crowded, but there's a decent seating selection. The wifi was pretty fast, but there's a login that only lets you use it for 45 minutes, probably not the best place to get work done.
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
Homey and busy little coffee shop in central square. London fog was an 8/10. Service was friendly but a bit slow, as expected given the high volume of customers. The chocolate croissant was average. Nice place for coffee and pastries if you're willing to wait a bit.
google avatar

Emiliana O.

Yelp
Coffee was alright, chai wasn't anything crazy. Pumpkin spice latte was pretty good. Spicy egg was yummy, goat cheese was a solid 8/10, lox was 7/10. Bagels come uncut... so if you're European maybe it's your vibe

Jasper R.

Yelp
I've been to 1369 three times. I was so disappointed the first time that I swore I wouldn't go back. I went a second time with a friend at their suggestion. The third time I went solidified my decision never to return. There's no doubt that the interior at 1369 is great. And that's about all. I judge a coffee shop, or a place that purports to be a coffee shop, by their simple, brewed coffee. I ordered two 12oz coffees: one with almond milk, the other with half and half. I was hopeful--it's hard to mess that order up. However, they did. The coffee was lukewarm, the milks were horrible, and the coffee tasted like water. It was so bad, I threw them away after walking a few blocks down Mass Ave. If you want a good interior vibe and pastry, 1369 would be enjoyable, I imagine. But in good faith, they should remove the "coffee house" from their name.

Yelp
I have been to this cafe several times now. There is a huge variety of teas (30), and I liked the Earl Grey. They serve an excellent cinnamon walnut coffee cake and delicious scones from AJ King. I also liked the classic egg and cheese on whole wheat bagel (Better Bagels). They have great cold brew and oatmilk pumpkin spice latte with homemade syrup. Online ordering is easy, but they can be a bit slow.
google avatar

Renee N.

Yelp
Love the ice latte I got please. Not much of a coffee drinker, but they brew their coffee in a way where it's easy to drink the latte. There is a line on the weekend, but service is very quick. It's a bit crowded in the front because the entrance is right next to cashier.
google avatar

Olivia W.

Yelp
I wanted to support a local coffee shop since there are so many chains in the area, but 1369 was just ok. Service was very slow, but they were busy on a Saturday so I was expecting that. The iced coffee was very acidic, and the pumpkin spice latte left a lot to be desired. It didn't taste like pumpkin or coffee...I wouldn't be surprised if it was just milk and syrup. The inside was very tight seating-wise so it's not a great place to spend a long time even though there were lots of people there doing just that (taking up an entire table with just their laptop). Overall I won't be back here when there are so many other good places to get a cup of coffee nearby.
google avatar

Areeba Z.

Yelp
I walked up to the store to order in but didn't see anyone. Then noticed a sign that said order online. I ordered through their website, a malted cold brew and a lemon poppy muffin. The wait wasn't too bad and the barista called my name out to pick up my order. The malted cold brew was very nice and the lemon muffin was so soft and crumbly. Taking one star off because I did notice someone walk up to order in person while I was waiting.
google avatar

Amber E.

Yelp
Cute coffee house. My daughter wanted a latte and cookie, so stopped in. She liked the cookie, but said the latte with oat milk was watery; was $9 for the two; $10 w/ tip; but, cool music playing, and friendly service.

Joseph F.

Yelp
I understand that everyone wants a break on the weekends. That would be nice right. But there are many retail workers that have jobs through the weekend. Some of us don't have time to wait in line to order. To turn off your mobile orders 2 hours before close is so frustrating. I walk past Jaho to get coffee here because it's worth it and quick to order and run to work. Small businesses have the power to do whatever they want but need to think of the impact it has on the community. I will keep my previous reviews for now. But this is such an inconvenience. Do better please and thank before you make decisions. On my way to Jaho.
google avatar

Mellany B.

Yelp
Went on a Sunday an hour before closing, and there was a line. The coffee must be good if they're still busy before they close. I was able to order within 5 minutes and two drinks came out pretty fast - the Malted cold brew and the Iced Vietnamese. I think it's pre-made. The Iced Vietnamese tasted a bit diluted and the coffee wasn't that strong. The condensed milk was totally there, you can see a layer of it sitting on the bottom. Even though I waited a while for the lavender latte, I think it's the better ones that I've had. Not too strong of the lavender taste, and the espresso cuts through the whole milk so it's not like I'm sipping lavender flavored milk. I'd come back for the lavender latte.

Yelp
Much loved local coffee shop serving pastries, union sq donuts, bagels, breakfast sandwiches, quiches and a few lunch type items. Good coffee and tea options. If you are looking for a breakfast sandwich, try the "rocket," I promise you will keep coming back for it. Expect long lines and a 5-10min wait for coffee/sandwiches. Plenty of seating indoors ideal for smaller groups. When the weather is nice outdoor seating is available.

Courtney O.

Yelp
I went to 1369 coffee house in central square Cambridge. I ordered a bagel with cream cheese. Waited a half hour to be handed a brown bag with a bagel in it. They need to have better service. Experience was aggravating.

Kyle F.

Yelp
awful Vietnamese coffee mix, cheap usage of condensed milk. embarrassing. coffee dripping all over the place. truly saddening. on my way to somewhere much better as we speak (Maprang in Union square)
google avatar

Gabriel F.

Yelp
Gotta show love for a union establishment. Finally had chance to sample this place and was very happy with my visit. Tried their Malted Cold Brew and a fresh Croissant. The coffee was very tasty. I can't remember the last time I tasted a malt flavored food item. This cold brew was sweet, delicious, and not even slightly bitter. The pastry was light and flaky, I enjoyed that as well.

Low End G.

Yelp
extremely bad experience moments ago with this place. I'm from out of town and I ordered a 12oz americano and a double shot espresso. I received the americano and I'm waiting and waiting so I get up and asked about my other drink and it wasn't registered by the cashier. so I get told I gotta wait to order it. There's a long line I waited on one I don't intend to wait on another because of their mistake. I also tipped them for two drinks.

Marissa H.

Yelp
Amazing bagels! I believe they get them fresh every morning from a bakery in Lexington, MA. Their cappuccino is quite good as well & the people working there are always happy and friendly. Love this cute coffee shop in Central Square!
google avatar

Andres D.

Yelp
Cozy little coffee shop serving a nice variety of coffees, teas and pastries. The indoor area is nice with a large (inaccurate) mural of the store, which is very inception-y. They also have art for sale by local artists hanging on the walls. You can eat outside on a few heavily contested tables, or walk a few yards to the Cambridge city hall lawn to enjoy this local favorite!
google avatar

Josh v.

Yelp
Great coffee. Latte and iced Vietnamese were both great. A star knocked off bc its expensive but service is good and the outside tables are perfect.
google avatar

Gretchen B.

Yelp
Wonderful local coffee shop. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The pastries and breakfast sandwiches are delicious. The coffee and other beverages are great. They make a nice Mexican hot chocolate...a tip from me to you. Order one sometime. I love supporting local businesses and 1369 is a treasured one in my neighborhood.
google avatar

Helen L.

Yelp
1369 has the best ordering and pickup system- order online and you can grab your order right off the shelf at the front of the store. They have great service too, recently they were out of the bagel I ordered and called me right away about a replacement. The food and drinks are good and hopefully they will bring back the hummus plate and vegan pastries they had prior to the pandemic!
google avatar

Julia S.

Yelp
I came to 1369 Coffee House on a Sunday morning and found myself frustrated by the system for getting drinks at this cafe. There's a narrow alley where you wait in line to order, and also apparently where you're supposed to wait in line to pick up. People end up bumping into each other and having to shuffle around constantly as they wait to pick up their drinks. I was disappointed to see that 1369 uses Garelick Farms milk. I wish it was more of a local/smaller farm milk brand. The latte I got ended up tasting good, but I wish they had used a higher quality brand of milk (and rearranged their cafe for a less chaotic experience).
google avatar

Morgan C.

Yelp
Thank you Yelp, for recommending this wonderful little coffee shop to me the other day! I was headed to Central Square to see a few friends in a show over at the Cambridge YMCA Theatre, and had about an hour to kill before the curtain rose. Looking for somewhere to hang out and charge my phone, I typed in "coffee shops" on Yelp, and lo and behold, was directed to the 1369 Coffee House! Let me tell you, I was NOT disappointed. The London Fog tea latte (sugar free vanilla, almond milk please!) was arguably the best one I've ever had ever, and service was prompt and friendly. While I did not indulge in the sweet treats that were attractively displayed in a glass case, the wide array of Blondie brownies, cookies, and fruit jam bars did not go unnoticed. Next time... The coffeehouse itself is very warm, homey, and inviting, with lived-in wooden tables, lots of seating, and plenty of sockets for all of your device-charging needs. I would recommend getting your tea "for here", and sipping it from an Instagram-friendly clear glass mug while you relax among some of the greatest minds in Boston (or so the conversations you can eavesdrop would have you believe). I think this is my new go-to for tea in Cambridge! :)
google avatar

Valeria S.

Yelp
This is a solid place to grab some coffee or tea as well as a snack. It's super close to my office so I've come here a bit. The place isn't that large and when the weather isn't nice you probably won't be able to find a place to sit. Either way the service is speedy and the staff pretty nice and patient. My go to is usually the iced latte even during the winter months since I feel like it's tastier. I also absolutely love their blondies and ridiculous bars. They are definitely not the healthiest option but they are extremely tasty - watch out though, you'd probably get a sugar crash right after. Other than that some of their iced teas are also a good option if you're looking for something lighter. The one thing I really don't like from here is their matcha - I feel like it's extra bitter and not that natural matcha bitterness that's actually quite good. I'd pretty much order anything but that in terms of drinks.
google avatar

Nick R.

Yelp
1369 is good and 1369 knows it. Does it matter to me that it offers less than an hour of free wifi? Or that ten purchased drinks won't actually grant me a free one, but merely save me two dollars on my next purchase? Or that its staff sometimes approaches me with the cool indifference of a chain-smoking hipster that knows she's just a few levels out of my league? No, it doesn't. 1369 is well aware: I need it more than it needs me. (I guess I should mention somewhere that 1369 does indeed have excellent baked goods and coffee.)
google avatar

Alison K.

Yelp
Came in on a Sunday morning and the place was packed. Long line almost to the door and almost nowhere to sit. I got an Au Lait (coffee with steamed milk), but even with the milk and sugar, it was pretty bitter and a little sour? Overall, not that impressed. Maybe I need to try some of their other coffee drinks.
google avatar

Michelle P.

Yelp
My friend suggested going to 1369 Coffee House because the coffee had a different taste. Now in my mind I flashed through comparisons of Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, Wawa (Philly local here), various k-cups and coffee houses. I can't quite put my finger on it, but the iced coffee had a unique taste. Perhaps a bitter, sweetness. Whatever it was, I gulped down my small ice coffee with soy milk and two Splenda quite quickly. The café had a real hipster feel, but I found the staff to be pretty nice.
google avatar

Michelle B.

Yelp
The Cambridge locals love this place, as it has a decent menu: good coffee, great pastries and some hot food options as well (breakfast sandwiches, etc). Coffee is served in little glass mugs and breakfast is in little wicker baskets. It's a cute homey vibe On weekends this place can get pretty packed, and space is often limited. That makes the process of ordering and picking up your order suboptimal since both have to wait in the same narrow aisle, but during the week this is less of a problem. Outdoor seating is also available during summer which is a nice option.
google avatar

Bran S.

Yelp
Not the fastest, but the food was excellent. I got a breakfast sandwich with avocado and an espresso. The avocado was fresh, and the espresso has a somewhat complex flavor, which was nice.
google avatar

Betty L.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place and I wish I would have found this place earlier! They make a delicious salted caramel latte and their potato & bacon quiche is delicious. The workers were also really friendly. I liked the layout of the place with high tables and stools along one side of the cafe with regular tables and chairs in the middle and on the other side. There are plenty of tables enough for one or two. This place has a very welcoming feel to it. I sat at the far back of the restaurant and enjoyed my breakfast. I wish I had brought my laptop with me to do some work there instead of having to go into the office. I will definitely come back here. I would recommend this lovely place to grab a delicious latte and get some work done or just catch up with a friend.
google avatar

Jess L.

Yelp
This is where the hipsters of Cambridge work. The staff is very hipster - at least in appearance. The service is quick. The biggest beef I have with this place is that it's way too narrow. You'll bump into someone in a second. I wish they had more interested herbal tea choices. However, they make up for it with their innovative hot chocolates, like almond joy and black and white.
google avatar

Anastasia C.

Yelp
I stopped by for a coffee but the pastries also caught my eye. There's a typical coffee house interior with plenty of seating and everyone on their laptops. Service was quick and they had multiple non dairy milk options for the coffee. Pictured is the pecan pastry I ordered - delicious but definitely something to split.
google avatar

Katie A.

Yelp
I've been here dozens of times, and while it has always been an especially slow place, it's even more so now. Waited 37 minutes for an egg sandwich. Someone else took it, opened it and touched it, realized it wasn't their order and gave it back. When the barista handed it to me I asked for another because someone else had touched it and she gave me a lot of attitude about it. Find somewhere else.
google avatar

Hannah L.

Yelp
very good coffee and fun staff!! got coffee bags here and staff was super nice about grinding and the place is super cute as well.
google avatar

Anarie S.

Yelp
I got a gift card from work to this place. It's a smaller cafe but they service great coffee. It's good to note that there's not much staff behind the counter so beware of the rush times. I've seen the line even past the front door.
google avatar

Allie S.

Yelp
I came in early on an afternoon and was surprised by how little baked goods they had left considering they are open until late. Instead I went ahead and got the almond joy hot chocolate. While it was okay, I thought the taste of coconut was overpowering. I do love coconut so that is not an issue, but I enjoy tasting the chocolate as I didn't order a "hot coconut drink". Seems like a popular place to get work done but the menu didn't seem much better than your usual Starbucks/Dunkin.
