"Rotisserie Georgette, opened by Georgette Farkas in 2013, was a renowned restaurant known for its rotisserie dishes. Despite its popularity, it closed down recently after six years of operation. The space has now been leased by Nick Tsoulos and Nick Pashalis, who plan to open a traditional Italian restaurant." - Tanay Warerkar

Yelp
The environment is beautifully decorated. A lot of artificial flowers are used for decoration, and there's no way around it since flowers are quite expensive in the US. The service is very attentive. They changed the tablecloth when the table got dirty and refilled hot water twice. The hot water here has lemon slices in it, which is more than what other restaurants offer. The soup of the day is very similar to the dough slice soup my grandmother from Henan used to make. It's such a familiar taste. The crab leg cake is incredibly delicious, with the sweetness of crab legs combined with the aroma of cheese. The lamb chops are grilled to a perfect state of being crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.

Yelp
This is the first Avra location we visited in the city, and we were immediately struck by its warm, intimate atmosphere--such a lovely contrast to the more crowded Rockefeller spot. If you're hosting out-of-town guests, the Rockefeller location might be the better choice, but for a special date night, this place is absolutely perfect. The decor is stunningly romantic, with every detail adding to its charm, making it an extremely cute and inviting daily spot. On top of that, the Mediterranean food was not only very good but also incredibly fresh, with flavors that left us wanting to come back again and again. It's clear why this location holds such a special place for locals! Our server was extremely thoughtful, too--when they saw me carrying in a bouquet of flowers, they even provided a vase to make our evening even more special. It's clear why this location holds such a special place for locals!"

Yelp
One of my top spots for Greek! The 48th Street location was the first in NY, and I've been there many times, but the Madison location has a completely different vibe--swanky and beautifully decorated! That said, everything here is fantastic, and you won't be disappointed! Greek Salad of course, Octopus, Saganaki, Gulf Shrimp, Avra Chips, Chilean Sea Bass Souvlaki, King Tiger Prawns, Branzino, Langoustines, and Lobster Pasta! Just order them all!

Kimberley M.

Yelp
I had an impromptu lunch with my team at Avra earlier this week and shockingly we didn't have an issue securing a reservation for 9 people during lunch! When we arrived we were promptly seated in the back. Our server was kind and explained the prix fixe and specials. We all enjoyed our dishes. Must have included the Swordfish, Greek salad, salmon, and soup special. Overall, great experience!

Yelp
My first visit to Avra was a fantastic experience! Although it wasn't too busy, I'd still recommend making a reservation just to be safe. I stopped in for lunch and opted for their lunch special, which is an incredible deal--just $38 for a starter, entrée, and dessert. Perfect for a business lunch! The meal started with complimentary pita bread/chips and hummus, which was a nice touch. I chose the Greek salad as my starter, and it was absolutely amazing--fresh, simple, and bursting with flavor. For my entrée, I had the fish of the day, a perfectly cooked rainbow trout that was flaky and delicious. I wrapped up the meal with a strawberry cheesecake that was just the right amount of sweet to end things on a high note. The service was good overall, though it felt slightly rushed toward the end, which was surprising given how quiet it was. That aside, I'd definitely recommend Avra and look forward to coming back!

Nandi S.

Yelp
If i give 5 stars for something-- take it seriously. Go during the prix fix menu time! It is worth it every penny. $38 for 3 courses was a brilliant deal. I tried calamari for the first time and my fried gave it a big approval. Super fresh. The swordfish is more flavorful than branzino, but regardless, both are stellar. The salad in the first course was okayish-- feta outshined everything and was fantastic. I am in love with their olive oil. Their orange cake at the end was equally stellar and the right size. Friend said the whiskey sour was done super well, and i agree for the passionfruit mocktail as well. However, don't get their coffee-- it's not worth it.

Yelp
Looking for overpriced Greek food, big vibes, and strong martinis? Avra's your spot. Expect a crowd of finance and Wall Street types just getting off the train, along with plenty of girls' night out groups. Avra has the vibe--think loud, bustling, and perfect for celebrations, big groups, and people-watching. If you're after authentic Greek, you might find better spots elsewhere, but for a fun night? Avra delivers. They recently opened Penelope next door, ideal for the "I'm kind of buzzed and don't want to go home yet" crowd. You'll find a mix of post-work regulars, folks on the prowl, and interesting characters galore. Great for happy hour, where you're likely to get... absolutely no work done. Try the martini (or two).

Yelp
Made a day-of dinner reservation on a Saturday cause we were craving Mediterranean food and we enjoyed another Avra location by Midtown which we enjoyed but ended up liking this place even better! Service was what you'd expect at a more upscale restaurant - attentive, prompt, and friendly. For food we got the filet mignon and the swordfish as our entrees which were both great. Filet mignon was cooked exactly how I liked it and they did give me a heads up that it's just the steak so would be best to order a side which I did. Swordfish was great as expected as well. For dessert I got the olive oil cake which was also good but the greek yogurt was actually one of the best I've ever had! The vibe of the place very nice. A good mix of mid sized groups and pairs with everyone enjoying themselves. Recommended for those looking for a good mediterranean place!

Bil M.

Yelp
Holy hell, this place was incredible. I was referred there by a client so myself and two of my coworkers went. We had oysters for an appetizer, which, how can you screw up oysters? I had the swordfish, one of my coworkers had Chilean sea bass, the other one had the ahi tuna. Everything was done to perfection with great flavors. The waiters are very old school in that they don't become part of the experience or the conversation, they just quietly take care of things like you don't even know they're there. I will definitely be back the next time I'm in town

Joelle G.

Yelp
I love a good Greek restaurant. There aren't enough in Manhattan, but a good share of them in Astoria. I digress... This place is a fav. From the Chilean sea bass to the Mighty Aphrodite to their house vino to the Dover Sole, to the Branzino? I'm never disappointed. Service is top notch and everyone who works there is extremely friendly. Plan to continue supporting this business indeed.

Yelp
We came to the restaurant on a Sunday for a late dinner around 10 PM. While the food was great, our experience was ruined by our server, George, who rushed us through the entire meal. Our main courses arrived too quickly, and his attitude was rude and unfriendly. When we asked for a coffee at the end, he told us it wasn't possible because the coffee machine had already been turned off. If the restaurant isn't prepared to serve guests properly late at night, they shouldn't seat people. We felt stressed and unwelcome, which took away from what should have been an enjoyable meal. Disappointing service despite the good food.

Julie C.

Yelp
Fantastic fresh seafood! The lobster pasta is sensational! I also love the octopus appetizer. The service is a bit rushed. It was not very busy btw. The decor is classy and ambiance is more business oriented, but relaxing and comfortable.

Anonymous A.

Yelp
The food was goor: The drinks were great! It was a nice night out. The steak was good (a little salty). The people next to us got some fish thing that looks interesting. the zucchini chips were great

Kay H.

Yelp
Delicious!!! I would 100% eat here again. The service was attentive and knowledgeable. We did not feel rushed at all. The ambience of the restaurant felt trendy, and relaxing with the white table cloths and the beautiful decor. The grilled calamari was flavorful, the fish was fresh with no fishy taste and the baklava was delicious! The coffee was delicious too! We lucked out when we found out they have a prefixed menu too! Wonderful choices on this menu too. The bill was a little over $100. I will most definitely recommend this place and will most definitely be back! Enjoy!!

Jason M.

Yelp
This place is amazing. Nice atmosphere, good food and great service. Everything about this place is nice. They have fresh fish that they filet table side. I highly recommend this place for work events, family dining, anniversaries, and birthdays. I will be back.

Terrilyn L.

Yelp
Always the best Fish!! This restaurant is sooo good. The ambience is elegant, the servers are eloquent and friendly. The staff is very accommodating and the food is consistently good. It is a nice place for an upbeat dinner and you will often see large parties. The bar is generally full which gives the restaurant a lively vibe.

Yelp
This is my second time visiting Avra restaurant, but the first time trying this location on Madison and it's still one of my favorite restaurants! Also first time coming for brunch/lunch. I want to say I'm so glad I did. We started off with great refreshing cocktails. I had ordered Persephone's punch and it was perfect for an early day drink. Refreshing, fruity and light. Hummus and chips were complimentary for the table and of course we ordered Avra chips too !! This is a must! We wanted something brunch and sweet so we also ordered the fluffy pancakes and wow these were incredible! I know they are just pancakes but these were so soft fluffy and delicious. As per entree we did the 38pp lunch menu that brings appetizer, main dish and dessert. I really think this was great deal as you're in the city in a fancy restaurant. Be mindful some entree had increase in price depending on selection. We ordered the Branzino which was so fresh and the lamb chops in which was so juicy and flavorful. As per dessert baklava and cheesecake are a must as well! Service was good too there's a lot of workers around making sure you have water and a clean table . Would recommend this location.

Ashley C.

Yelp
Their prix fixed lunch on the weekends is a great deal for lunch. You need to have reservations especially at this location. We had to sit outside and our seat heat lamp was broken and the light at our table was broken so that took away from the ambiance.

Victoria G.

Yelp
Food 8/10 Very fresh fish and exceptional olive oil. Definitely get the branzino-super tender and light. The appetizers were all solid, not the most memorable, but I enjoyed them all. We got the tartare, tomato salad, Avra chips, and the three dips. I thought the Avra chips were better than the ones at Milos, and the yogurt dip was also very fresh. But I think my biggest qualm with the food here is the fact that their pita came in the form of chips and not bread. I dislike chips so I think that honestly took away 2 points. If there was bread, I would've been able to soak up the olive oil even better. Atmosphere 9/10 We got a booth that fit nine people, very cute and kind of separate from the rest of the dining room, so it felt very intimate and perfect for a birthday celebration. Service 9/10 Nothing to complain about, provided us with everything and showed us the fish before they cooked it, so we knew how big the Branzino was :D

Isabella T.

Yelp
I came here for a birthday lunch in a group of 8 people on a Saturday around 2pm. They sat us in the top level in a nice booth towards the back of the restaurant which was nice since it made our reunion feel a lot more intimate and quiet. Our server got the drink and food orders for our table promptly when we were ready and all the items came out in a very timely and coordinated manner. My boyfriend and I both opted to get the prix fixe menu for lunch since it comes with 3 courses and is very reasonably priced. There are a wide variety of items to choose from for appetizer, entree, and dessert which seem to accommodate for different dietary restrictions, something I appreciated. For my three courses I tried: - Daily Soup Special: this was a creamy cauliflower soup that was super rich, and comforting. The flavor was vibrant and there was a tangy, sweet punch from the balsamic glaze on top. Presentation was beautiful, I almost didn't want to eat it. Portion size is also incredibly generous. I would recommend asking what their soup special is since they are apparently all equally as good. Perfect for a cold rainy day! - Fish of the Day Special: on this day the special was a branzino filet paired with some couscous. The presentation again was very nice. The fish was flaky, buttery, and so full of flavor. It felt lean, healthy, and fresh. The flavor was delicious and very balanced without any element being too overpowering. The couscous was tomato based so it had a vibrant color, and tangy/acidic flavor, but was over a bed of beets which provided a really nice sweet and refreshing contrast. Very filling and enjoyable! - Strawberry cheesecake: small portion which was great considering how full I was at this point. This was a delicious cheesecake, it had the perfect density with a balance of airy fluffiness that made it feel light but enough substance for it to be satisfying. Not too sweet and the strawberry flavor didn't feel artificial or overpowering. Truly delicious. My boyfriend ordered a different set of things but I did try some of his spanakopita which was very good. The pastry was golden and perfectly crispy. It came with a delicious filling of cheese and greens. Two large spanakopitas per portion which I felt was very very generous. Overall, I had a very positive experience here for a weekend lunch. This is a perfect spot to host a birthday lunch with a big group since the prices are reasonable and the ambiance is super nice/elevated. The food is high quality and the service is also very good. They have a downstairs area as well which is more quiet and is just beautiful. Very spacious, aesthetic, and clean. Their lunch prix fixe is truly an amazing deal. Will definitely come back for another special occasion!

Ben F.

Yelp
Had another excellent experience at AVRA Madison. Once again the service and management were as professional as they come. They definitely recognize their regulars and were nice enough to send some complimentary desserts. The food was excellent as usual. The carabineros (scarlet prawns) are pricey but so sweet and delicious. The snake river farms wagyu eye of ribeye was cooked to perfection at medium and well seasoned, though the lamb chops will continue to be my go to meat dish.

Nora W.

Yelp
Great ambience. Amazing food. Great service. VERY expensive. Great for special occasion.

Salisha D.

Yelp
LOVE THIS PLACE. The food is amazing and the ambiance is beautiful. Bonus points for having an incredible lunch special. This is one of my favorite restaurants. So excited for the weather to warm up so I can join them in their beautiful outdoor setup!

Hannah H.

Yelp
Avra has 4 other locations, one being in Beverly Hills and one in Miami; we came to check out this Mediterranean restaurant for lunch, in which they offer a 3-course prix-fixe menu. For the 1st course, I went for the Fish Souvlaki, which were two grilled skewered Chilean sea bass; the bass was flaky. For the main, I went for the Lobster Pasta, which was prepared with light tomatoes, garlic sauce, and linguine; didn't expect to see the actual crustacean there, but the lobster itself was actually super tough and seemed to have been overcooked. For dessert, I went for the Orange Cake; this was a good way to finish what was an uneventful meal. We did order some extra a la carte items, such as a few orders of the Chicken Sausages, French Toast (cinnamon crunch, berries, and cream cheese frosting), the Cheese Burger (grilled sirloin beef, aged cheddar cheese, and oregano fries), and the Fluffy Pancakes (with blueberries and sweet whipped butter). The interior of the restaurant is pretty, with the foliage, the white/off-white booths and tablecloths, as well as the enclosed case of their fresh seafood on display. Service was attentive. +friendly service

Christina H.

Yelp
First things first, WOW- the grilled jumbo shrimp were the best shrimp I've ever eaten. Perfect texture, flavor, WOW. Everything I ordered was amazing, but that was the true stand out for me. Also, the grilled octopus was delectable. The taste, the consistency, WOW. If I could knock off half a star I would simply because the waiter wasn't the friendliest. I was expecting friendlier service with great food recommendations for the price tag of this restaurant. Lovely decor, upscale restaurant. The downstairs area is gorgeous. It has a wine cellar and a whole separate dining room! I cannot wait to return to this restaurant!

Ben D.

Yelp
All of the locations are great but the room at A Madison is the stand out. Same great seafood centric menu with an ambience that satisfies just about every diner.

Brad B.

Yelp
Space is huge and nicely designed. Place is always packed. Service great . Fish so fresh Branzino sashimi excellent. My halibut was great even the expresso martini was good as were the wines. I usually get nose bleeds when I travel north of 23rd st but this joint was worth the trip.

James S.

Yelp
Solid Mediterranean food with several fish selections. Our favorite NYC destination at the present time! The greek salad and chilean sea bass were among our favorites! The servers could have been friendlier and the hostess should be fired, but the food was worth putting up with their attitudes.

Fabiola F.

Yelp
I had a wonderful lunch at AVRA as I have had in past occasions. The pre fixe menu was excellent and all the staff were excellent. Thank you!

Raul G.

Yelp
The food is so delicious. Excellent wine selection. Love the menu. I've had some of the best service here and some of the worst. That's the only thing that keeps this from five stars. Some of the waiters seem arrogant and like they don't have time for us.

Mr. W.

Yelp
Food is incredible, service is incredible and the ambience is amazing. This is one of the best restaurants in the United States. The food is unbelievable. Go there, you won't be disappointed. Incredible, incredible, incredible.

Joseph P.

Yelp
Spectacular! Avra Madison is more than a restaurant; it's an experience. With a "big scene" ambiance that's both exciting and sophisticated, Avra serves up some of the freshest seafood and mixed-Mediterranean cuisine anywhere. Whether you choose to be seated outside in the amazingly designed and furnished Covid-era sidewalk Pavillion or inside at the bar, main or lower levels, it's all simply breathtaking, shimmering in gold and warm wood. We began our feast with the most amazing generously poured Old Fashioneds, and martinis. Moving into dinner, we started with Portuguese grilled sardines, saganaki and tuna tartare followed by real Greek salad, roasted beet salad and chicken frites, all consumed with several glasses of dry red wines. Service is of equivalent excellence at Avra; our waiter was a pro. Avra will transport you to the Greek isles, old Athens, or the Cypriot hills in an otherworldly experience here in the heart of Manhattan. It belongs on everyone's bucket list.

Preeti M.

Yelp
What is not to love about Avra, like anywhere? It was my first time to Madison location and usual, high quality food. Great service and bonus at this location is the wonderful side walk seating so you can people watch...what more do you want in NYC?!

Brian S.

Yelp
Enjoyed a very good dinner at this Avra location. When we arrived the restaurant was busy but that sat us right away for our 7:15pm reservation. The restaurant is large and has a nice indoor/outdoor flow to it, additionally it is well Lit and easy to have a conversation at your table. We stared with the Avra chips and calamari, both were really tasty. We ordered a bottle of the one from the expansive menu one list. For our entrees we had the sea bass and shrimp and eggplant. Additionally we ordered hummus on the side. Overall the experience was on point. Our waiter was the right amount of attentive and also let us have our business conversation. The food did not disappoint and the bus boys were all over everything else that needed attention. This NYC restaurant while not inexpensive is worth checking out.

Helen S.

Yelp
HUGE establishment with an even larger space downstairs. Very grand and lavish decor. Extremely clean. Lots of corporate groups. Prices reflect. Service is excellent even when it is very busy (it almost always is on weeknights). Great for very large groups. Friends and I came just for snacks, desserts, and drinks to celebrate birthday. The homemade ice cream was hands down some of the best ice cream I've ever had: creamy subtle vanilla with chocolate sauce and peanuts on the side. HUGE portion.

Nora F.

Yelp
Hubby and I came to this restaurant with our friends. Our friends wanted to celebrate our birthdays, so here we were. We had a booth table. It's a gorgeous restaurant with beautiful Greek-style decorations, which are covered by creamy colors all around it. Nice! Well, almost all the fancy Greek restaurants we went to used the same cream color in the background. We ordered Greek salad to start, and our friends had Tuna tartar. Greek salad was authentic. Great tomato, and all other ingredients were crunchy except, of course, Feta cheese. The pepper, onions, tomato, and cucumber were crunchy, so we know they're young and fresh! For the entree, I had branzino! Why not! It's a Greek restaurant. They prepare fish the best! Btw, I chose the fish with head and tail on. Fresh and without a fishy smell, that's the fish I like! Hubby had Prime NY Steak. It was tempting to try it, but my fish was more nourishing than the steak lol. We also ordered grilled vegetables with the entrees. After spoiling ourselves with the meals, we had the nerve to order Baklava. That's not all. It came with a scoop of ice cream too! Now I want to know whose idea to bring us baklava ala mode when you know very well I don't eat dessert? I don't eat, I don't chew dessert. I swallow the dessert! We had a great dinner and were very thankful for our birthday dinners from our friends. I made the right choice. The restaurant became crowded fast, even though we went on a Sunday night. Service was top-notch. Thanks!

Emily T.

Yelp
I stopped by here for lunch for 3 courses, expecting to not be that full, but the portions were generous! It was a great deal as well. The branzino and lamb were both cooked perfectly. The salmon tartar and grilled calamari were good as well, but the entrees were the standouts. We tried the strawberry cheesecake and baklava for dessert and enjoyed how it wasn't too sweet. The ambiance was lovely as well, it was nice and bright and well decorated. I'd come again for lunch!

Steven W.

Yelp
I have always wanted to try AVRA. A beautiful and decadent ambiance with a modern interior with live trees and high ceilings. A very large restaurant with two stories and wine cellar. Menu is not too extensive and they do offer a 3 course lunch menu for $37 which is an excellent deal. I tried the menu, I started off with the calamari, which was crispy and delicious, lightly battered. The entree that I ordered was the branzino with veggies. It was very large and I was shocked at how large the fish was. Parts near the head had a lot of bones so we had to be careful. Dessert we had the fruit plate. All dishes were amazing and presented well. The highlight dish for me was the grilled octopus. The flavors were out of this world!

Ekaterina I.

Yelp
I love Avra in LA, used to live there and stop by for a lunch if I'm around in Beverly. So couldn't resist to visit Avra on Madison while visiting NYC. We had a great experience with Vladimir, hands down. Everything was just perfect. The Bronzino was mouthwatering as well as Salmon tartar. Ambience is lovely, service is outstanding.

Kozeta Z.

Yelp
Amazing atmosphere very good food and great service. our server was Vladimir., And he was very helpful and polite

Nan S.

Yelp
Food was good, although shrimp fish is small and definitely overpriced. Salad with romaine and onions and octopus was terrific. Service was inattentive. Not best experience in NYC and not sure we will go back.

Bea W.

Yelp
Loud "happening" place. Line to get in a weeknight with very well dressed guests as well as business diners. Food was standard Greek fare. Flavorful and good quality vegetables - well prepared Branzino. Very good service with our large party - we were well attended to.

Amanda W.

Yelp
This is my go-to brunch spot on the upper east side. Perfect for either indoor or outdoor dining (I prefer the indoor, the decor is beautiful). The brunch menu is very good price, only $35 for three courses! We ordered for apps: calamari, octopus and the Greek salad. For entrees: lavraki (branzino), salmon, and the lobster pasta. All of the dishes here is such a great! You cannot go wrong with any of the dishes here! True brunch gem!

Nishant S.

Yelp
We love coming here for the pre-fixe lunch. It's a great business lunch spot, but also great for a nice lunch out. The quality of the ingredients is amazing and it shows in simple dishes like the Greek salad. The seafood is super fresh, stuff is cooked correctly and the service is efficient and unobstrusive. Always a good meal

Aly K.

Yelp
Food- excellent. Ambiance- earthy decor, more mature crowd, great cocktails, not loud, overall - very pleasant. What made me write a review was our waiter Mo. I am working closely with group of people who want to open their own space so I became very observant of employees and minor details . Mo knows when its better not to interrupt and would stop busser half way when we were in the middle of the saying our withes to bday girl, or taking photos, or more photos:))) We haven't seen each other so our drinks order was very impromptu and not all in once... not a slightest facial expression of disapproval even when Mo walked away and "can be himself" as "no one pay attention to servers anyway". well measured energy equally divided between all his tables. I will stop here. Lets say, Mo is Smooth Operator:))) I shared my honest feedback to that day floor manager while ordering "surprise" desert for our friend (after 30 desert cake no longer a surprise " but !!! I was indeed surprised with desert plate being offered complimentary. None of this been planned , anticipated or asked for but that touch made me say I will write a review and I always do what I promised.

Ilan G.

Yelp
At a restaurant with these prices, one would expect a higher standard of food quality. The exception, however, was the baklava, which was outstanding, as well as the complimentary pita with hummus.

Deivis L.

Yelp
Came to Avra to have dinner with some friends. Ambiance, service, food and drinks were exquisite.

Hannah K.

Yelp
This was one of the best dinners I have ever had. The staff was incredible, the food was beyond amazing, the salmon was cooked to perfection, and the selection was beautiful! I will be thinking about this dinner for a very long time - 10/10 recommend!
