Yelp
I love that this is what opened in this space after Ringside Steakhouse vacated. The menu for food has changed over the years. But I like the pizza and beer with other gourmet types of bar food on the menu including salads. The beer shines in all its award winning glory - and I've enjoyed every beer I've tried here so far. I do love a good Pilsner and they do that very well! I'd like to make it here for happy hour one day as I hear they have $10 pizzas. Bar service is great! There's some issues with either the floor or some of the bar stools in front of the bar (kinda rickety) annoys me every time. But I'll forgive them for having wonky chairs when the beer is so dang good!

Andrew A.

Yelp
They're consistent in that they keep lowering the bar. Congrats Von Ebert as your breakfast burrito is one of the worst in recent memory. It tasted premade and it was deep fried reminiscent of what you'd find at the Safeway deli counter. When I asked for "half the bacon" I got a nod, but doubtful they did anything with that request. The salsa: frickin' packets like at a gas station mini mart. Nobody I know - even regulars at Glendoveer - rave about the food. I wish the club would part ways with this place.

Yelp
We needed someplace last minute while in Portland. Three of us for lunch on a Sunday at noon. We waited for a host but waited for a few until we walked back and someone seated us. Menus were on the table. Our waiter arrived, brought us water and took our drink order which was just water. As we attempted to place our order the first FOUR items we requested were out. No pretzel, no 12" pizzas ( they could make a 16" but not 12), on and on. We finally rested with sandwiches and fries. Food came out quick yet mostly cold. Our sandwiches were very tasty but all the fries were soggy and cold. We ordered the fries with herbs and cheese and aioli. The Aioli was so good and we wanted more but the waiter never returned. We ate for about 20 minutes then waited at least another 30 min before we got up to get our check. We found our waiter with another employee eating behind a counter. When I approached our waiter turned away from us and I had to ask for help. Without washing their hands, they printed the bill and gave to me. I quickly paid. The waiter seriously stood right in front of me while was deciding on a tip. I seriously felt uncomfortable so I probably gave a lower than normal tip. I really think this place could be great but no one at this location seemed to care. If notice in the pictures, it's not busy. Hopefully they'll try and improve.

Ryan M.

Yelp
Their food is really good, they are often busy and it seems like the servers are easily overwhelmed, but we've been coming here for years and it's always a pretty safe bet. The place is nice and has a fire pit in the middle it gives off a sort of late 90's could stand a renovation vibe but it's nice enough. The have 10 or 12 beers that I am typically not overly impressed by, however volatile substance is always reliable.

Yelp
Fun happy hour outside, great service and food. French fries were fabulous!! Thank you for having a bubbly!!! Service was great!

Yelp
Portland Pizza Week alert One of our favorite places near our home, Von Ebert Brewing, is featuring one of the best pizzas of Mercury Pizza week, the Cubano Pie, made by their talented chef. This delicious dish is filled with spicy and tangy flavors, including pork, Swiss, smoked pork, black forest ham, pickles, and a drizzle of mijo. The award winning beers are awesome #MERCURYPIZZA #vonebert

Yelp
I will sort off by saying that the service here is amazing. I can't remember our waitresses name, however, she did an amazing job taken care of me and my friend when we went there to hang out. They do have a nice outdoor seating area with minimal cover, it is right next to the golf course. The beer and the food for on par unintended.par! The only unfortunate part about this place is physical address and the places around it are not that great to be in the middle of. The immediate surrounding area is OK.

Annalisa V.

Yelp
We live nearby and have been coming here semi-regularly since this location opened. The beers are great, the smoked wings are excellent, and the rest of the food is mostly pretty good but nothing special.. The happy hour burgers and pizza are a good deal. However, the service is generally bad unless you sit at the bar. The staff seems to turn over regularly, and the quality of the service has been steadily declining. Sometimes they run out of pizza dough on BOGO pizza nights. We were there tonight and the server was anxious enough to take our order and bring a round of drinks but then didn't come back. Someone else delivered the food from the kitchen, which is fine, but the server never came back to see if things were OK or ask if we wanted more drinks, then I had to chase him down to get the check. They used to do much better.

Yelp
I have had beer from Von Ebert before and my latest outing with it was fairly solid. We had the porter, A Night in Tallinn. Not a bad porter at all. Perhaps not the most unique that I have come across but I was entertained by it nonetheless. This porter has flavor features of a rich, smooth and velvety texture and flavor. The maltiness is pleasant and the sweetness is appropriately dispensed to the point where it's not too weighed down by sugar. A fairly enjoyable porter overall that we had at this location which continues to affirm our (Me and Steve's) overall positivity with this brewery.

Yelp
Good beer & delicious burgers. Love the golf course as a backdrop. Service was okay. Parking is plentiful.

Yelp
On a whim I stopped in for lunch. So glad I did. I sat out on the patio watching golfers tee off. Fun. I ordered the pepperoni pizza it was surprisingly delicious! Definitely on my lunch radar for future lunches!

Yelp
Location, location, location! I have a friend who lives crawling distance from this spot. Both she and I had dismissed it just assuming that neither of us would find things here. I am allergic to hops so beer and me are not friends (more for the rest of you!) and she is vegan. I was is serious need to find us some lunch nearby and typed in vegan with her address. I clicked on the menu thinking yeah right when I saw not just one thing but a multiple amount of vegan options?!? She said she always thought about dropping in but thought there was no way they would have anything for her to eat and she is not really a drinker. So, we sat in a brewpub with a Pepsi and a Dr Pepper! That pizza though...seriously, you will not even notice their shroom pizza is vegan - it is ridiculously good and would have earned them 5 stars except... so, the folks who eventually come to you are super nice. It took forever for the weird menu app to load and get it to work ok. I ordered my drink and a second later it was there but basically unless you order, forget seeing anyone. They dropped the pizza off and ran...and we never saw anyone again so my friend went up and grabbed napkins to take the rest of the pizza home. It is all about the crust and that was some of the better pizza crust I have had in this town so I had to four stars just for that.

Yelp
I have one word for my experience.. FLIES. The whole entire time our dinner was surrounded by flying flies. It felt very unhygienic. I have come to this restaurant many times. Never have I had an okay experience. I always make sure my husband and kids order something that is cooked in avoidance of creepy looking food. I recommend if you are coming to this restaurant to be leery of what you eat. Tracy Dingle; Not happy.

Cristina C.

Yelp
as soon as you get out of the car, you hit with the delicious smell of their smoker. It is situated overlooking a golf course, private parking, indoor and outdoor seating and dog friendly. Ordering outside is completely on an app. The turkey on the turkey sandwich was delicious. The sandwich bread was very bready and took away from the taste. Their truffle fries are fantastic! Would visit again!

Steve M.

Yelp
Ordered a beer & a cider. Beer $8.00 Cider $9.50 I don't know how this is going to work out for their business model. There's no way I'll ever go back and pay that much for a couple of simple drinks again. I can't be the only one.

Amanda S.

Yelp
Great selection of beers, food is also great! Recommend the pork belly lettuce wraps

Cassidy D.

Yelp
The service leaves much to be desired. I wasn't a fan of the bartender telling us that pizza slices were $3, only to find out they were closer to $5. She also didn't give us our receipt at the end. My partner had to ask, which seemed to displease her. The beers were good and the view is top notch, as is the establishment. Just need better staff who doesn't misinform patrons.

adam h.

Yelp
We love this place but gosh, probably won't be going anymore :( They apparently just reduced their menu by 50% and now it's just primarily burgers and pizza. Please bring back your salads, Nashville hot chicken sandwiches, sausage dish and such! That's half the reason we used to come once or twice a month!

Rosa N.

Yelp
I've decided this place is where I'd go if desperate. It was a nice day so we sat at one of the outdoor tables. Scanned the QR code for the menu to find out that ALL of the pizzas were sold out. When I inquired about this, they said they received a bad batch of dough. Come to think of it, every time I've been here, they're out of something. For food, my sister's spicy chicken sandwich was burnt and my BBQ wings were slightly dry and lacked flavor. I went inside to ask for a modification for a drink we ordered, looked up at the huge tap list on the wall, and NOTHING sounded appealing besides one of the beers I've had before, which I wasn't in the mood for. Imagine looking at a ton of options and wanting none of them. So disappointing. The service is always good but Von Ebert, please give this location more resources. You operate this location as if it's on its last leg.

Kristine H.

Yelp
Great location on the Glendover golf course, but the pizza is not outstanding. We tried a burger as well, and nothing was memorable. The view and the ambience were cool, but we probably won't go back.

Laura C.

Yelp
32 of my closest friends and I had a fun "Vest Friends" party here and we all wore our zaniest vests. The event coordinator reserved the front room (next to the actual brewery) for us - free of charge. That was probably to keep our riffraff and noise away from the customers in the main dining area. The only stipulation was that we had to order from the bar. That was good news for us because it meant we didn't have complications from a big bill being divvied up at the end. I love tots so I ordered the Korean tots. They were so sticky sweet and spicy that I ate every morsel, down to the last peanut! They have happy hour every day ($10 pizzas) so I saw a lot of that and the steak bites going around. I love beer so I also ordered a paddle and tried these 5 beers: *Drink me Potion *Aurora Shimmer *Picnic in Tasmania *Derby Ram *A night in Tallanin I am not crazy - because a friend verified, as well as the bartender - that the Aurora Shimmer had a hint of bloody mary. It must be that the hops are peppery or tomato-ish. I love both peppers and tomatoes so it interesting and not. However, the Drink Me Potion reminds me of McM******* R*by ale - which I love so I had 2 pints of that after I finished my taster paddle. Huge props to Chris P & Dominick L for answering all of my emails to get this party arranged. Everyone had a fantastic time and we are very much looking forward to coming back ion a sunny day so we can sit outside and take in the lovely golf course!

Andrew S.

Yelp
Love Van Ebert beer! The golf club ambience doesn't really jive with the brewpub feel, but it's still a nice view even if you don't golf. Our larger group had some hiccups with service, but ultimately we all got what we ordered. Impossible burger was very good, and the wings are very generous. Food isn't top notch, but with the beer they serve, who cares?

Marcy H.

Yelp
The service was fantastic... BUT Sadly disappointed that they do not have the smoked wings on their menu... We have recommended this place for their wings and now you can only get them on Wednesday .. Deeply sad.. I would like to talk to the person in charge of changing this. The reason for 2 stars is the menu now has been revamped and now it is mostly burgers and pizza. Von Ebert please do better!

Sue S.

Yelp
Great happy hour! If you're in the deep Eastside, this is a good go-to happy hour. Bogo pizzas Thursdays! Great beer and a great view of the golf course.

Goodrain S.

Yelp
I have dined in in May 4 around 4:40pm at table 4. The ordering system has problem and kept charges on my credit card. I had been charged a 9.99$ and a 12.95$. I don't know what is happening. I want refund.

Rose D.

Yelp
Nice pub & restaurant located at the golf course. They have a large dining room & bar, big patio, and a little game room, too. They have quite a few of their own beers to choose from, along with guest taps. They have a good lookin' menu, too, and smoke their own meats. We enjoyed a couple beers on the patio and relaxed with the nice view of the golf course. For dinner the Hubs had one of their pizzas and I had the smoked brisket - both were delicious. They do offer a cauliflower crust for a gluten-free pizza option, and although their menu online currently doesn't say they have gluten-free buns, the Director of Ops replied to this review to tell me they do have them & apologized I wasn't offered one when we were there (so I just updated this review to note that). I just ordered the smoked brisket without the bun, but they did offer to make it a lettuce wrap if I wanted (online menu didn't mention that as an option, either). I also like that if you order a burger or sandwich it comes with fries or tots or a small side salad.

Cristobal B.

Yelp
I had been here previously, back when they had waiters to wait on you. If memory serves, it was better in the past. They make good pizza, but unfortunately, that's about it. Pulled pork sandwich was mostly gristle. Smash burger was burnt. We ordered the pork belly lettuce wraps and 2 smallish pieces of burnt pork belly arrived with some lettuce and about a buck's worth of kim chi. The brats and the smoked meats that they claim to be famous for, are not very good. They taste store bought and cheap. Both pizzas we ordered were good. Nice crust. Nobody checked on us. Nobody offered to refill a drink or bring us silverware or a napkin. We ordered at the bar and had to go to the bar to get anything that we wanted. That is apparently their new system in addition to a phone app that you supposedly can order drinks from, but that system is broken. That's the new thing, I understand that the whole world is going to counter service, but in a restaurant setting like that, it wasn't clear. Seemed to be the regular drinkers were getting additional drinks brought to them. Went back later for a work event. Same thing. No service. Order at the bar, or on the broken app. However, they add an automatic 20% gratuity. It was only a party of 6. Pierogis were freezer burned. Good pizza. They're out of many beers. Beer they did have was good. Service is nonexistent. It's pretty clear that they have given up and it hasn't affected their business because of a steady and consistent flow of half drunk golfers getting off the course, who are probably just happy to be indoors, warm, getting thoroughly drunker. Too bad. Beautiful location. Only get pizza and drinks, and you'll be ok.

Nick S.

Yelp
5 Star service, 5 star beer, and winter golf bonus. 0 stars for no wings. I actually came here for the wings was bummed to find out they only offer wings on Wednesday. Bring back the wings they are fire.

Bailee M.

Yelp
1. Made a reservation for a large group of 15 people, got there and they didn't have the table set up correctly so we had to sit in different areas. Not a huge deal, but it did mess up our tab pretty bad since we were all on one. 2. The ordering process is an absolute nightmare, we input all of our orders but we're still missing meals. Also, none of the servers came and explained how to order, it took a long time to figure it out. 3. Two meals were brought out 30+ minutes after everyone else's. It was a train wreck. 4. A mouse ran from the behind the barn to under a booth.... There are multiple sliders to go outside but that was kinda unsettling. 5. We came here for pizza, every single pizza was, "out of stock". I would of thought that we had made reservations that they could of at least called to give us a heads up .. We would have likely taken our business elsewhere. Unfortunately, I will not recommend this place to anyone, nor will I be returning.

Robert F.

Yelp
This is our first try of von Ebert's pizza. The service and promptness were fine. The problem is the pizza: vegetarian was flat, with almost no mushrooms or onions; the peppers were Mama Lil's that made the whole thing taste as if it were bathed in vinegar. Sorry to have to say it but this was a terrible pizza.

Rudito B.

Yelp
Pretty basic pub grub but the folks here were friendly and that matters. The drinks menu was pretty good and the food was fresh.

Jeanne Z.

Yelp
My favorite brewery in Portland! For many years, I had trouble deciding on a true Favorite, and I waffled between several, and had a rotating list of my top 5. But, primarily because we live less than 2 miles away from the Glendoveer Brewery, I feel comfortable calling it my true favorite! I love that Von Ebert is the Whole Package! IT has really good beer, and it has good food as well. A lot of the breweries in Portland have good beer, but sub-satisfactory food. Von Ebert is really meat heavy, so I can imagine people who are into meat really loving this Brewery for that, but I love that they have delicious food options for Vegetarians as well! So, that is extra rare and nice to have options from delicious and nutrition salads, (the Fall Harvest Salad with Farro, roasted squash, cranberries, apples, walnuts, goat cheese, arugula is my fav!) large pretzels, Impossible Burgers and mouth-watering Pizzas! The Modern MARGHERITA waits Basil Pesto, Sliced Tomato & Mozzarella is pretty tasty, but the Veggie Supreme is my favorite pizza on the menu! It has Mushrooms, Olives, onions, and mama's little peppers it is really savory and satisfying! THey have a new Vegetarian Pizza on the menu called the "Shroom PIe" with King Trumpets and Crimini Mushrooms! That sounds very delicious also, I look forward to ordering that one next time I go in! We recently moved to the neighborhood, and I think I ended up going to Von Ebert 3 times within 2 weeks or something similar! It was nice and convenient to get pizza as take-away, and we dined-in once too, and that was very comfortable. I like how they have a lot of options for dining in, getting food to go, or eating outside. I also like the Glendoveer Nature track, that is about 2 miles, it is a nice way to run or walk off the calories that you imbibe there! And, the Golf Course is nice I have heard- for those into that, and the driving range is pretty fun to hit golf balls (and it is 2 levels!)

J M.

Yelp
Doesn't come close to the cleanliness, the awesome food, customer service or class the Ringside had. Always out of toilet paper. Never asked if you want anything to drink playing VP nor do they pick up the glasses. But nothing compares to being called a liar. I won $300 and had $40 still on me. The first $20 I put in it goes back and forth in the bill acceptor, then eats it.She told me I'd have to wait till the next day which was fine. That they would call me, which they never did. So I called to ask if I could come pick it up. She said, No, she didn't believe me. I had just walked back into the vp room before quickly coming out to tell them. It was crumpled from being in my pocket. And I didn't even have my $300 yet. I asked her to write down the time so they could check for any errors being thrown. And to check the camera at that time to see me put it in but not play. Then confidently she says their camera doesn't work. But if I had been lying I bet it would've worked then. Thief!

Laura B.

Yelp
Food and drinks are good however, the service has been disappointing the last 3 times we've been. Really wish that wasn't the case because it's a nice place with good indoor and outdoor seating. A place we'd visit much more often if we weren't disappointed over and over again. Seems as if they are understaffed and flustered the last few visits. Really not a fan of ordered on my phone and/or ordering at the bar only. Conversations between staff that shouldn't take place in front of customers were happening. I saw multiple Yelp review's of customers being upset about their recent menu change and I didn't realize the impact until we arrived. We went to ordered a few items and quickly learned they were either no longer on the menu or they weren't available the day we were there. We were there around 6p on a Wednesday and the wings (that are only available on Wednesday's) were already sold out. Our visits will be few and far between and unfortunately we won't count on good service.

Tim S.

Yelp
I like the people and the place but it's a bit pricey. I think the pizza is expensive and the crust was really hard to chew as it was a bit tough. Beer is good and the service it great so I'll still be back. On a good note.... the tots are awesome!!

Kristi R.

Yelp
The food was awful Been there many times and tonight was awful. Chicken was dry and brisket was nothing more than a shredded roast. Didn't even ask us for anther dtink

Lisa B.

Yelp
Super disappointed. Had been here in the past and before "online" ordering, it was actually pretty decent. We came here mainly for the nice outdoor seating. We were surprised about the online ordering system .. completely opposite of personal. Finally figured out the online ordering and ordered a couple of beers and food. My pizza was "ok" and my husband's wings were burnt. I also asked the server for an extra plate and she acted like she didn't hear me and, of course, it never showed. Will not be back and will not recommend to anyone else. No tip necessary when no one actually "serves" you.

Kirk T.

Yelp
Pizza and beer were great - the ordering system on phone stinks. Ended up having to walk to bar twice. Because of this the service is terrible though the people are nice. Will not go back.

Chris B.

Yelp
It is nice living kind of close to this location. Von Ebert makes some of my most favorite beers. Their Italian Pilsner, Volatile Substance IPA (won some big awards), Sector 7. All are so good. Food here is always good. Sometimes it is not as consistent but they have good bbq, good apps, and salads. The crispy chicken sandwich is always good though. Pick your flavor and you won't be disappointed. Great ambience with the fireplace in the restaurant and you can get cans to go.

Jake R.

Yelp
First off, the beer is excellent! And I love the atmosphere, there's a fire pit in the center and large windows all around the outer tables. I was seated quickly by the awesome hosts and quickly handed a beer by the bartender. Their attitudes were great! Highly recommend the Wave Decay or Volatile Substance IPA, and any of their pizzas! They also have specials to take advantage of Monday through Friday.

Jeremy L.

Yelp
I'm such a big fan of this place. A hidden gem on the deeper East side. It's been a lifesaver escape during with grueling covid Era, with their giant patio spaces and tons of outdoor seating. And you can beat the golf course views! Beyond just being a great place to hang out, the food and drinks are top notch, too! Nice variety of beers, usually IPA leaning, and the Smash burger is always tasty.

Louise B.

Yelp
We were there on a Saturday evening and it wasn't even busy I had the Impossible burger and it was completely tasteless My husband's brisket sandwich was good No service and place looked grimy

Gracie C.

Yelp
This was a fun place. I work nearby and a group of us decided to get together for a drink or two. The employees were friendly and helpful. The beer list was amazing. Anytime you have 2 options for a lager, that's worth 5 stars alone. ;) Most places offer 1 and then a bunch of IPAs and heavy beers. The pretzel is huge and yummy! We ordered several appetizers and did not have to wait long to get our food. The servers checked on us frequently and cleared our tables from time to time. Overall, a great place. . .. ... .. .

Tamara C.

Yelp
Me and my beau came here on a glorious Saturday afternoon. The weather was just perfect not too hot and not too cold which for my delicate sensibilities is right around 85 degrees. I haven't been here in many years, not since they still called it the Ringside Steakhouse. I have no clue when the change happened but I noticed that they kept a few of the Ringside favorites like the steak bites and the onion rings. A couple of things I didn't care for was that you had to scan a code to bring up the menu on your phone which is very challenging if you don't carry reading glasses around with you. Second, the servers don't come out to take your food and drink orders. You have to go inside to the bar. I guess there are more than just a couple things I didn't like. They brought out the totality wrong sandwich so I had to carry it inside and have them remake it. Once it was done properly it was delicious. Last thing I didn't like was having to bus our own table. What do they deserve a 20% tip for after all the hoops the customer has to jump through? The setting is quite nice as you can watch the golfers teeing off. But the course has pretty low standards as my boyfriend kept mentioning as we kept seeing golfers in jeans and tennis shoes. I'm in no hurry to return. 2021 - Review #8

Lois C.

Yelp
AMAZING!! Been day dreaming about that pretzel! More beer cheese!! I've had the brushed mild wings which are the best I've had! And they are ginormous!!

Daniel W.

Yelp
This is not the former occupant, Ringside. It's a pub and brewery with stunning vistas of green grass and tall firs and an excellent beer selection. I ordered the single patty brioche bun side salad with blue cheese on both. Delicious and the service, once we ordered at the counter was perfect. Sitting next to the gas-log fire was luxurious for a late November day. Lively conversation over out VE brews, food arrived promptly, fire just glowingly warm and the sun on the green grass? Can't wait to return and my pal's craggy fried chicken sandwich is worth that trip.

Mark B.

Yelp
Was pleasantly surprised during my first visit hear. Nice cozy little brewery with excellent beers. Fireplace inside, overlooks a lovely manicured golf course. Service was very attentive and friendly. Food was above par.

Ryan B.

Yelp
Excellent beer & food. You order from your phone & I'm cool with that. Friendly staff & a great view of the golf course.

Heather H.

Yelp
Man. I really wanted this place to be cool. Pre-Covid it was a neat place to enjoy happy hour... great place to gather with work folks. Great place to grab a bite and drink after a round of golf. Great outside seating... great view... had all the fixings! Then Covid happened and social distancing and things started slipping major. I get it - have to protect the people. They had less staff.... NO more table service, out of certain things. Okay. I get it. Now we are out of weeds, or people care less now and things should be going back to normal. One would hope. Nope not at Von Ebert. No table service - which is annoying. So standing in lines at the bar with only one bartender/server on a Saturday. Yikes. But here is the rub. The attitude of the staff. You are a SERVER! You probably like TIPS! Your attitude and effort is what drives your tips. Being snarky and condescending is not going to get you any tips. I did not like your snide flippant response when I inquired about drinks. You successfully marred an otherwise lovely day of golfing with your whole vibe and self. I realize I am giving you a lot of power in affecting my joy. I will not be returning to your establishment, and I will make an extra effort to tell everyone and anyone to avoid supporting your Brewery.
