Mitsuru - Review - West Village - New York - The Infatuation
"Mitsuru comes from the person who founded Parcelle, so we probably don’t have to tell you that the wine here is great. What you might not guess is that this candlelit restaurant in the West Village also has an impressive sake selection, and that the chef used to be in charge at Sushi Yasuda. And while there is an omakase counter with options starting at $150, the small, a la carte menu served in the dark wood dining room is where you’ll find the sea bass tempura. And you need to try the sea bass tempura. It’s exceptionally crispy, moist inside, and comes on a bed of tartar sauce, zhuzhed up with fresh ginger.
Come for a casually spendy date night (we’ll report back on the omakase), and sip on whichever sake is available by the glass—ours was light, bubbly, and straight from Niigata, Japan. Order a few handrolls, like the buttery torched salmon, or the toro and scallion, and expect to leave with an impressive variety of Hi-Chews—they’re by the front door, in the bathroom, and come with the check.
