Kōbo Pizza Review - Capitol Hill - Seattle - The Infatuation

" has nixed their food menu and made way for Kōbo. This Japanese and Detroit-style pizza counter is helmed by the team behind , the late-night karaage spot next door. You’ll find pies loaded with ingredients like braised teriyaki brisket with kewpie mayo and tonkatsu, Taku fried chicken with koji hot sauce, and sliced potato with broccoli and seaweed ranch. While we’re fans of Kōbo’s crust, which has great chew and a Pillsbury Crescent Roll-like sweetness, the toppings tend to be far too dry and unevenly scattered. There’s no need to go out of your way for this pizza, but if you end up enjoying a few frosty pints at Redhook, order some salt and pepper tater tots and the Ginny pie topped with pepperoni and garlic-infused honey—just be sure to get an extra side of ranch for dunking it all." - Aimee Rizzo

Yelp
Once again a fantastic time! I was thrilled that we were served by Megan again--the service was just as good this time as last. Food: BREAD SERVICE $8 housemade sourdough with seasonal butter This season's butter had cranberry in it, and I really loved the combination with the wine we had. In fact, the wine we drank was perfect with all of our food. Wine - STOLPMAN VINEYARDS 'LA CUADRILLA' Santa Barbara, CA 2022 $16/$64 BROTHER NATURE GREENS $17 Poached pear, senshu apple, aged goat cheese, pistachio, blueberries, apple cider vinaigrette This was a delicious combination! Those pears...so yummy. Megan said that it was unusual that we were able to have this salad in November because it was sourced locally and we've been having unseasonably warm weather. EGGPLANT TART $20 Charred tomato, onion, white bean purée, pickled radish, mustard greens, habanero salt, balsamic, cured egg yolk This was so flavorful--it was served cold, like a salad. I loved it! CHANTERELLE MUSHROOM RISOTTO $29 Delicata squash, celeriac, alba mushroom, cider honey, pepita, pomegranate I loved the juxtaposition of the soft risotto and the crunch of the pepita and pomegranate. BRAISED SHORT RIB $28 Sheridan acres cassoulet, parsnip, carrot, mushroom, onion, crispy shallot The short rib was fork tender. I loved the sauce. If I had any complaint about this meal, I would say that the short rib needed the sauce and it was good that it was there. We shared everything. By the time we got to dessert, we were too full for food, but we did top off the meal with the green and yellow chartreuse. They were each $10 per ounce. Overall, I loved my experience again. Chartreuse remains one of my favorites in Downtown Detroit.

Yelp
The first callout I have to make is that the service here is absolutely incredible. I added a note that we were dining to celebrate my girlfriend's medical school residency match day, and they immediately congratulated her as we were seated and brought out complimentary mocktails as cheers. Also, as some of us didn't eat pork, they modified the menu items to avoid including it, which really showed their hospitality. Throughout the night, they were extremely attentive and got more water or cleared dishes as soon as they were finished. As for the food, they are definitely more of a shareable situation with smaller portions, although some of the main entrees are large enough to be enjoyed solo. We had a party of 3 and ended up sharing a bunch of menu items family style, and it ended up being the perfect amount of food. For starters, we ordered the bread basket, fish curry, twice cooked egg, and gobi manchurian. The twice cooked egg and the gobi manchurian were the clear standouts from that group. As the mains, we shared the lamb strip and the branzino (modified to be made without the pork vinaigrette). While the lamb was good, it was a little smaller and too fatty for my taste. The branzino was incredible, and I would 100% order that again. For dessert, we finished off with the bread pudding, and that was a delicious way to end the night. Would highly recommend checking out this restaurant! I would encourage making a reservation ahead of time to be safe and arriving a little early to find street parking.

Yelp
I was in Detroit for business and did a quick survey of the restaurants in the area I was staying; Warren. So I expanded my search to Detroit and found Chartreuse on the outskirts in a trendy art district. Easy to get to and ample parking. Once I got inside I knew that I made a great decision to take a little more xtra drive. I didn't have a reservation but the hostess found me a nice spot at the bar. The bartender was cool to talk to and super helpful with drink and food recommendations. They have a nice list of specialty cocktails but I asked for a vesper which is my favorite martini. No problem at all. And perfectly prepared. I went with the twice cooked egg and man oh man there's a reason why this menu item is a permanent resident on their otherwise seasonal menu. Great spot, great food, great vibes.

Yelp
First, I was expecting the side to resemble a steak house. Instead it was a lovely whimsical light and warm environment. The veggie dishes were great, the fried egg was nice, but not as good as I expected. I had the steelhead which laid on top of some beans. I believe. I was not a fan on it at all. I did love the Mocktails menu and the first Mocktails on the list, I had two of them, with a citrus yummy flavor-loved it! I would go back, but not for a serious meal maybe for a small plate and a delicious mocktail. It's a very pricey place, but the location is great (next door to the DIA) and most places are pricey now.

Yelp
The food was really good, not enough for the price, but very tasty, I enjoyed the lemon drops

Yelp
Whoever cooked the short rib tonight DID THAT. (I've never had short rib that had panang curry and it was divine) the sushi rice and slaw were GREAT. DELICIOUS DISH. PHENOMENAL GREAT SERVICE I love the setting, it's dark and cozy, but not too small. I ordered cava, and the pour was nice. I'd come back for date night. Thanks for the great service and food.

Yelp
We had a reservation for our anniversary dinner on a Friday night. We quickly found street parking and when we got there the host told us that our table was not ready yet. We were able to wait in the lounge and order some cocktails but our table was ready in a few minutes. We started off with drinks and I ordered the last word which is their signature cocktail and I really enjoyed it. Some highlights of food was the tuna tartare and the pork dish that we had. I thought that the wings were just okay. I will definitely be back to try their different menus!

Yelp
We had a very nice dinner here before seeing a movie at the Detroit Art Institute. There was a reasonable list of beers, wines and cocktails - I enjoyed my Mast Landing Milk Stout. Two of us had the butternut squash soup, one of the highlights of the meal. found it off-putting to be charged extra for bread and butter. Nancy had the mushroom confit, which she liked very much. Barbara had the green salad, which looked great. Two of us had the short rib, which I thought was OK but our friend Mike deemed disappointing. The masa tots were a hit as far as I was concerned but hardly anyone else at the table tried them.| We had room left for dessert so the four of us shared one of each of the three choices. The rye cake with mascarpone mousse and the vanilla pudding were outstanding; the "twinkie," an orange cake, was also good. We left both sated and satisfied: a good meal

Yelp
The food here is AMAZING. My fiancé and I came after a photo shoot for engagement and it we both agreed we couldn't have picked a better place. Every bite had us saying "wow" literally. I didn't think food this good existed in our area at such a fair price. The light hearted environment had us questioning upon initially entering but its unique charm ended up being a memorable location and experience.

Yelp
Incredible food and wonderful atmosphere. I'm hone having a hard time putting my experience here into words; the food ranged from "very good" to "best I've ever had" and the cocktails were delicious. Our server was wonderful; she was funny and attentive and had good recommendations, and the people who cleared the plates as needed were delightful too. I'm not often moved to write a review about a restaurant, but this was so incredibly good I feel it is my civic duty to implore you to visit Chartreuse at your earliest convenience.

Yelp
Freezing ass cold. Put space heater by front window 3 tables. And in foyer.!!!!! ( and I'm a winter person!) 2. Put acrylic window seals in front of your 3 entrance Windows. Get cut at home depot, $30 bucks. 3. Your lamb meatballs are dry, gamie and store bought. Grind your own meat. 4. Widen your menu. Very esoteric

Yelp
Our lunch was very pleasant, and service was attentive. It is café-style dining with quality ingredients. There are nice wine choices, and beers (although as typical, heavy on the IPAs); the cocktails looked good and not too goofy (but we did not get to partake). The menu is well-rounded and everything we had was good, however it suffers from the don't-know-when-to-stop flavor bombs. A whitefish sandwich had Brussels sprouts and mustard and blueberry jam, and I forget what else. You really couldn't taste the excellent fish for all the layers.

Yelp
My wife and I tried Chartreuse for the first time and it was with mixed results (she liked it a lot, me not so much). I will say that the service was exceptional and the dinner drinks were very tasty, hence my 3 stars instead of lower. They offer shareables for the majority of the menu, so we had a few appetizers and 1 entree to split. The sourdough bread and butter appetizer was good but the crust was so hard, it could cut your mouth. The Ceviche appetizer was just OK. This is where my wife and I differed. She loved it and powered through the majority after I was finished with my 2-3 bites. For me, the best side appetizer we had was the roasted carrots. Those were very good (and wife agreed) Our main course was the Seafood Linguine, which had shrimp, mussels, as well as a thick broth. The problem for me is that the dish tasted like it was so heavy on Saffron, that I just couldn't enjoy the seafood at all. Lastly, the menu changes a lot, but when I first got there, I had anxiety over what to actually eat - the options are few and very particular. You can give them a shot if you like my pictures but we are moving onto something else. Too many options in Detroit to roll the dice again here. Again, the staff and drinks are great - it's the food I can leave behind.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I wanted to treat two of his friends to a nice dinner because his furnace died when we were on vacation recently and they saved the day by coming to his house and letting in the electrician. One of his friends suggested Chartreuse, as she had been there once before and said it was fabulous. The food was indeed fabulous. Our waitress recommended about two plates per person, and so we ordered eight plates. We started with the lemon basil ricotta toast, the beet cured salmon, and the grilled vegetable Caesar salad. Both the salad and the toast were great; the salmon had nice presentation but I'm not really a seafood fan. We then had the Give and Grow mushrooms, braised lamb pappardelle, grilled broccolini, and bavette steak, plus the pork belly. Of these, all of them were good but my favorite dishes were the pork belly, which was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, and the bavette steak. We also each ordered The Last Word cocktail, and I had The Little Lula after that; both were good but the Little Lula was a lot sweeter, which I preferred. My boyfriend and one of his friends also got the Green chartreuse, and my boyfriend got the Heavy Bend cocktail to finish the night, which he also recommended. The service was very good, but I was considering giving Chartreuse 4/5 because I did think that drinks took a long time to come to the table, as well as water refills. However, near the end of the meal, after we had ordered two of the three desserts offered, our waitress came back to the table with all three desserts, and apologized that things had been a little slow because we had arrived during their busy rush time. She also offered us all a taste of the Yellow chartreuse drink they had, on the house. This was excellent customer service and bumped up this review to five stars for me. And don't forget dessert: our friends shared the Rhubarb, which came with a mini cheesecake of sorts, and my boyfriend and I shared their homemade version of Bumpy Cake. Both were excellent - if you prefer chocolate desserts, I would go with the Bumpy Cake, but if you prefer something fruitier, I would go with the Rhubarb. As for pricing, it's definitely expensive but it's on par with other tapas places in the area. Cocktails were $13-16 (and they also have a wine list and, of course, a chartreuse list), and each tapas course ranged from $7 (bread and butter) to $41 (duck breast); the bavette steak, at $39, was our priciest dish. Overall this was an excellent experience and I hope to return at some point. There is no parking lot nearby, I believe, but we did street parking.

Yelp
Had a solid birthday dinner here. My cocktail was probably my favorite part of the night and we liked the room. Our food was all good, but I kept hoping for something to really stand out. Our server was perfectly nice but a bit awkward. Will try again.

Yelp
Have been wanting to try chartreuse kitchen for a while and we came on a night to celebrate my SIL's medical residency match. The staff was incredibly kind and welcoming, and kicked us off with the tastiest celebratory mocktails. My brother also had the mockingbird which was very good, and I had the coffee lime & tonic - this wasn't my favorite. We ordered multiple dishes as shareable and really enjoyed everything! We started off with the house sourdough bread & butter, which was very well made. We then had the cauliflower and twice cooked egg - both were standout. For entrees, the fish curry was tasty but tougher to share without a rice or bread side. The lamb strip was a bit smaller portion, but the Branzino was amazing and I'd definitely recommend. We ended with the Madagascar vanilla pudding which was gorgeous and tasted just as good! The interior with the chartreuse colored walls is stunning. Looking forward to coming back as they open for lunch and rotate their menus!

Yelp
First time trying this spot and really liked it. Nice environment, small plate spot and me and my friend ordered 3 plates. Got the smoked whitefish spread, gnocchi and grouper cheeks. Grouper cheeks were a little short on flavor but overall I would come back.

Yelp
Oh my goodness, I had z half hour to kill before an event nearby so I walked into the bar and here's what happened: The vanilla pudding and the house cocktail- the best $25 I've ever spent Vanilla pudding: TO DIE FOR (see pic to understand what I'm saying)

Yelp
A nearly flawless dinner from start to finish. The Mr. and I had diner post the "Van Gogh in America" exhibit at the DIA. After a friend ditched us at the last minute (I kid, she was sick), we had to change our dinner plans. Went online and saw rave reviews from my fellow Yelpers. Checked for reservation and they only had bar seating so I snagged it. Upon arrival, the host confirmed that was the only option so after a brief wait, we were ushered to the bar. Our bartender was lovely and created the most delicious mocktails. Note bar seating gets quite drafty in the winter due to its proximity to the entrance. The hubs had to wear his hat the entire time and I saw quite a few patrons wearing their coats. For starters, we shared the gyoza, burrata, and bread/butter. The bread was thick and warm with delicious butter with caramelized onions. I do wish the butter was sated but they graciously provided some on the side. The burrata was prepared quite differently than usual (olives and tomato paste vs the usual pesto) and I wasn't a fan. However, the gyoza were definitely the star of the three. Who knew beets with an asian flavor influence could taste so good? I had the most enormous pork chop served with a side of and grilled honey cornbread. The chop was cooked perfectly and the accompanying honey mustard sauce was too good and I had to ask for more. The dish, while well seasoned, felt quite dry compared to my husband's barramundi which was served with a seafood sauce and mussels that received rave reviews from him. Overall, dinner was enjoyable, all of the staff we encountered were accommodating, and the bartender rocked. I would definitely return!

Yelp
Wow, exquisite food! It's family style so they recommend 2 to 2 1/2 dishes per person to share. We sat at the bar, which allowed us to watch the chefs in the open kitchen. Watching the chefs is very fun, and I got a peak at everything so it helped me know what to order. Excellent service! They work as a team and everyone helps out to bring you food and clear plates. Our main server was Tina and she's fantastic! Very attentive and helpful. I enjoyed a delicious glass of Syrah while I perused the menu. We started with the Brother Nature Greens salad, which contained mixed greens, poached pear, apple, raspberry, vanilla, honey, pecan, lemon, and goat cheese. I enjoyed all the flavors, especially the poached pear. We also had the bread and butter. Homemade warm bread served with a seasonal flavored butter. (I think ours had a subtle cranberry flavor) Yum! Next we had their gyoza, which was wonderful, and had a spicy beet puree underneath. The star of the night was the grass fed filet. Wow wow wow! It came with an incredible mushroom sauce. I was lapping up the extra sauce with a spoon! I couldn't get enough of it. The meat was so tender, like melt in your mouth tender. Absolute perfection. I was full but I couldn't resist their Madagascar vanilla pudding. The layered presentation was visually impressive. It came with basil syrup, blueberry, bourbon chantilly, and a rosemary cookie. The best dessert I've had in a long time. Tina even put a candle with it, in honor of my birthday. Such a special meal. I won't forget it.

Yelp
If you're looking for a wonderful dining experience, especially for a special occasion, this spot is hard to beat. With a unique menu that changes daily with fresh ingredients, to the incredible service, to the personalized menu and card to acknowledge our anniversary -- it's all in the details why this place is such a great find. But of course the food is important and it exceeds expectations too. Tasty, flavorful and enough but not so much that you hurt afterward. My husband and I shared a farmer's salad with goat cheese and fruits on it. Then we had the smoked new potatoes. We loved both appetizers. For entrees, I had the duck. It was amazing. And my husband had the spare ribs and he almost ordered seconds of them -- he said he could eat a slab of them. So good! Very happy with everything. Can't wait to come back.

Yelp
Just outstanding! Food was creative, well-prepared, small plates. Great for sharing so we could experience even greater variety. Our server, Dan was excellent, engaging and accommodating vis a vis dietary limitations, and a genuine pleasure. Will be back!

Yelp
Been coming here for years but no longer - it gives way less food for way too much money. Four pieces of bread (for a table of five) for $8? Classless.

Yelp
My first meal in Detroit was at Chartreuse, one of the most recommended restaurants in the area. The waitress said they do not have a refrigerator because everything on the menu is fresh and seasonal (one of the restaurant people at my table raised her eyebrow at this statement in disbelief). The menu ranged from smaller to larger bits, with the shrimp and grits being the beginning of the larger plate dishes. We got 2 orders of the burrata for $17 served with tomatoes that were barely ripe, as well as 2 of the Gobi Manchurian (fried cauliflower) for $15 to share. I liked the fried cauliflower and looked forward to tasting more. The hit of the night was the shrimp and grits with scallops for $28. I only tasted this dish because of my scallop sensitivity, but both the shrimp and grits were nicely seasoned and perfectly cooked. I was disappointed by my pork ribs for $23, which were very tender, and very sweet, served with a sweet coconut rice. I loved the cucumber side salad and wished there was more, but even though I took my leftovers to go, I did not eat them. My glass of wine was very nice and the rest of the table split a bottle of sherry which they enjoyed. So would I go back? Yes, but depending on what is on the menu, your satisfaction with your meal will depend on which plate you order, so going with several people so you can share and taste different dishes would be a wise choice.

Yelp
Such a wonderful dining experience! We came before a concert at the Filmore, and it was just perfect. Wonderful cocktails, excellent service, very yummy, inventive food. I really love their menu - it's plant forward with varying flavor profiles and everything sounds interesting. I love coming here and will return every chance I get. It's the perfect place to share some delicious food with friends.

Yelp
The was good. The vibe was nice. Make sure you make a reservation. I went for the duck confit but it wasn't on the menu at the time. They change the menu around frequently.

Yelp
We were in the area for a cocktail tasting event at The Detroit Historical Museum and had a couple of hours to hop around beforehand. Located in the Wayne State District, this place was a great find! It was a very yucky, cold, and rainy April Friday, but walking into this place you'd never know it! It has a sunny disposition about it. It felt like spring in there (definitely did not when you left!) We were immediately greeted and asked for a seat at the bar. We were fortunate to get seats as it was quickly filling up. We were across the street from the Detroit Historical Museum and I highly recommend coming here before or after your trip there! I guess everyone had the same idea! Our server, Evan was absolutely incredible! He was able to make drink recommendations based on our preferences. He was able to describe each ingredient and he was so on point! Each cocktail is made with Chartreuse, an Herby French liquor. The Tate is very unique and added a bit of a kick to each cocktail. I got the Song Bird which was more fuity of a drink. It was so lovely and colorful! I can't remember the name of what he got but it tea infused. He loved it. I'm not much of a tea drinker so that wasn't my preference but he said it was very good. We did not get dinner here but we will definitely be back to try the food because I can't even describe the beauty of it all. Everything is prepared fresh. The food was... Pretty. I can't really describe it. Even if you're not one to take a picture of your food you would want to. Because it was so breathtaking! We will definitely be back! And I'm sure you can tell that I totally recommend this place.

Parker W.

Yelp
Awful food, terrible service, pretentiously overpriced. I am EMBARRASSED to have brought visiting family here. I couldn't wait to get home and have a snack, I was so unsatisfied by the garbage we paid a ton of money for here- which took forever. Visiting DIA? GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.

Yelp
Very nice! The vanilla pudding is amazing. Take the Q-Line there. A local favorite. All the dishes are delicious.

Yelp
Chartreuse was recommended to us by a friend. Service was good, food was underwhelming. The ambiance was laidback, we went for our anniversary dinner, and I regret wasting our night there. I think when Chartreuse opened the food may have been better or higher quality. It was just underwhelming. I would come here if I was out at the DIA and wanted to grab a quick bite to eat.

K M.

Yelp
We loved Chartreuse over the years especially for its exceptional service and knowledgable wait staff. We brought an out of town couple with us for an early Saturday evening meal anticipating goodness. Unfortunately, this time it missed the service mark. No other diners were in the main space when we got there, but we found ourselves seated in the middle of the room, right next to bar patrons and the busy aisle the servers used. The long legged males in our group had hardly room under the little wooden table to tuck in. As it got busier, one server kicked our guest's foot as she hurried by. Our waiter asked if we were newcomers to the restaurant. Our guests said they were. When our guest inquired about the cocktails and food match, she was informed that he, our server, knew nothing because he didn't drink.... That's fine, but he never offered to find another staff to make a recommendation. Returning later with the cocktails, he shakily set them down and spilled the coupes. He cleaned the area with the little beverage napkin, never returning with fresh napkins to prevent the chilled drinks from sweating all over the table. The food was as it always has been - great. The orders however, went in as "shareable" per our server's recommendation. What he failed to realize, much less mention, was that the appetizers were likely not evenly be split four ways. That was disappointing, and left us all wishing that we each had ordered separate entrees so no one was left in want. Maybe there's been a staff changeover, or less attention is paid to what we found so wonderful about Chartreuse in the past. Perhaps, we will return, but at this price point with little accessible parking options, there are far more interesting restaurants in MetroDetroit that consistently hit all the marks.

Yelp
The staff is really great, they go above and beyond for their customers. I really like how the menu changes per season and the small plate feel allows me to try more things in the menu. Even better, they make a great cocktail

Yelp
Chartreuse is now open for lunch and we rejoiced. We are subscribers to the Detroit Symphony Orchestra "Coffee Concerts" so stepping up Woodward after the concert for a delicious and comfortable lunch after that excellence is a bit of heaven. Today Chartreuse delivered as we knew they would. One of our favorite servers was on duty, Megan. She knows the menu and the drinks so you can lean into her recommendations. I had salad with the twice cooked egg that is a favorite. The wine list is fairly short but always has some interesting and delicious choices. I had a white wine from Chile that was new to me. Take advantage of this great lunch option. you won't find a better place in Detroit where you can relax, have a quiet conversation while enjoying delicious food and drinks.

Yelp
Looking for a fabulous night out? Love farm to table with rotating menus? Make a reservation at Chartreuse. We were lucky enough to love everything we had: Berkshire Pork Chop - huge, juicy pork chop with andouille sausage, bean cassoulet, corn bread & honey mustard. The flavors of this dish are absolutely outstanding. Australian Lamb Shank served with coconut curry, broccolini, zucchini, cilantro, scallion, mustard greens & popcorn. Grilled Quail - delicate savory quail served on top of medley of wild rice, cranberry, apple, pomegranate, squash, kale, cider honey & pepitas. Grilled Vegetable Caesar- if you love smoky grilled salads, this is for you. Grilled arugula, broccolini, asparagus, kale, tomato, onion, frisée & croutons. Delicious! Brother Nature Greens - fruity salad lovers will love this one. Poached pear, apple, cranberry, vanilla honey, pecan, goat cheese. Yum! Burrata with olives, roasted peppers & sourdough bread Chocolate - chocolate cookie with raspberry jam, chocolate ganache, candid almonds, cardamom anglaise, toasted almond anglaise The filet was also marvelous! I didn't get a picture but highly recommend!

Yelp
What a fantastic find! Unique and delicious food, innovative cocktails and outstanding service. Have to admit I had low expectations given other places in Detroit, but this place is not to be missed. Fresh bread and sun dried tomato freshly whipped butter. Pork loin cooked absolutely perfectly (it's supposed to be pink in the middle!!). Roasted potatoes. But the vanilla crème desert!! Oh my God!! Will be back to eat the food, enjoy the staff (especially Izo) and see what's next on the menu!!

Yelp
Went there for the first time tonight. Split a few plates with my girlfriend. The Heirloom Tomato salad was excellent, would definitely try it again. We also had the Potato Sausage and Mushroom Confit dishes. Enjoyed them both. Finished it off with a spectacular pudding and an Amaro digestif. Looking forward to trying whatever they have in the future.

Yelp
I haven't been to Chartreuse in a while, but I remembered how much I loved it. When I found out that my wife had booked a table here, I told her and my son how great everything was here. But, having my son along brought something to light: the food here is not for everybody. I happen to love how the flavor combinations here challenge the palate. My son, a teenager, struggled to find anything on the menu that he thought he would like. There are no hamburgers, no fries, no chicken nuggets, no pizza. I told him how great the pork belly was. I ordered it, and about half of it was a divinely rich flavor bomb. Unfortunately, part of it was overcooked and dry. I told him how amazing the twice cooked egg was. It was just as beautifully poached, but crispy on the outside, as I remembered it. To be honest, I forgot how amazing the salad underneath was. The sweet shallot vinaigrette, Brussels sprouts, and frisée were beautifully balanced. He didn't like how sweet it was, but he loved the egg. I was getting exasperated with his indecision, and told him I would get him the flat iron steak (at $29, the most expensive item), which my wife ended up getting. It was flawless. He decided to get the braised short rib. I thought they were terrific, but he was expecting ribs like the kind you get at Famous Dave's. Like I said, the flavors here challenge the palate. My wife got the signature drink of the house, which is made with chartreuse, a French liqueur. She started out thinking it had a weird medicinal quality, but she grew to like it. The lesson here is that Chartreuse is not for everybody. Needless to say, I am not going to take my son here again. But, if you don't mind discovering new, exciting flavors, then you really should stop here sometime. Besides the interesting food and charming decor, Chartreuse has maintained their excellent service. While you will have a server, it's a team effort. Everybody is there to help bringing dishes out, or to help you with something if your server is not available. There's a lot to like here. Just make sure to leave your teenagers at home.

Yelp
We are eating here with a couple friends. We had a number of small plates we shared. Some things I would have never ordered if I were by myself. I am so glad our friends were with us, as I tried everything. Everything was beyond amazing. I wish I could describe the magical mash of flavors that was in each dish. The head chef is Brian. His mind must be possessed by gods that appreciate magical food as each dish was magical. Two different salads the beef poke, the Seafood Escabeche, the Spring Rolls, Duck Breast, Branzino, lamb, oh and let me tell you about their sour dough bread with this butter that has flavors that mere mortals would not understand. Chef Brian and his whole team have amazing skills. In my country they would build statues in Chef Brian's honor. The lesson is: The magic happens outside the box we live in. I would have never experienced the amazing flavors without venturing into the things I have never tried. Have you ever noticed that as we get older that the years go by faster? There is a scientific reason for this. As we get older, we tend to experience less new things in life. So, if you want to slow your years down, say yes to the things you would normally say no to, take the road less traveled, try the things you would have never tried in the past, go to Chartreuse, let Chef Brian and his entire team, expand your mind and your palate. This was an amazing experience. Kudos to Chef Brian and the entire team here. Ugh! It was sooo good.

Yelp
Came here Saturday night, we were one of the first people seated. We ordered our drinks and food at the same time. Our first round of food came out before our drinks, no big deal. The twice fried egg and salad it's served on were delish. It's probably the best thing we had all night. Pictures of everything else are attached. It wasn't that anything was "bad" but nothing really wow'd me for the price of everything. The drinks were really good, but unfortunately don't see myself coming back.

Yelp
The food and service were equally amazing. We arrived 30 minutes early and waited in the lounge where our server brought us complimentary drinks for our anniversary. After informing them we didn't drink alcohol they made up some quick aperitif to enjoy instead. After I thought this couldn't get any better we tried a few mock tails ( coffee, lime juice and tonic) which were incredible. The wife ordered the pork belly and I had the short rib. Looking forward to coming back to try more items. I also would like to add that from the moment we arrived we had exceptional service from the hostess to the expediters/buss-persons/servers. This restaurant has hand picked some incredible talent. Everyone was very kind and knew the menu.

Yelp
Stopped here for some cocktails and a snack before dinner. We kicked ourselves afterwards because we should have come for dinner. For cocktails we ordered the Songbird, Last Word, Greenpoint and the tarrant hightop. We also got the Ceviche which was delicious and unique. If we are ever in Detroit again we will definitely be coming here for dinner.

Yelp
Been here several times and it does not disappoint. Yummy and interesting food with veg options. They are also able to accommodate allergies and sensitivities. Service has always been great. Go here and have a great meal.

Yelp
My husband and I were so impressed with this place! It was so bright and cheerful! We loved the open kitchen. The service was top 3 restaurants we have ever been to. Katy was phenomenal and so attentive. We let her decide what we should eat since we are foodies and not picky. Katy started us off with the crab salad which wasn't on the menu and the steak tartare. The crab salad was creamy and had that pop of acid from the grilled mandarins and yuzu. The steak tartare was earthy and I loved the pickled mushrooms. That black garlic purée gave it a sweetness and funkiness it needed. The second plates were the twice cooked egg and spare ribs. The twice cooked egg was a great idea! The salad was so rich! I loved the Brussel sprouts and mix of greens, but it was super sweet. It needed acid and salt. I was looking for some relief from the richness of the salad. The ribs were amazing! They were sticky and perfectly cooked. That raw potato salad was addicting. It was crunchy, had such a great umami flavor, and spicy. The combination was amazing! Our last plates were the pork belly and the sweet potatoes. Cherry bacon jam on those sweet potatoes was so delicious that I wanted to tip the bowl and drink it all up! The tartness of the cherries, salt from the feta and the smokiness from the bacon mixed with the sweetness of the potatoes was perfection! The pork belly was cooked nicely and I liked the spiciness and pickled vegetables. It would have been better if we didn't have the spare ribs. We finished with the pudding! This is not your mom's pudding. It was thick and rich and packed with flavor. I love the basil oil and rosemary in the cookies. It needed that relief from the powerful vanilla pudding. This was by far top 3 restaurants we have ever been to. The service, food, and ambiance was exceptional! We would definitely come back if we are in Detroit! Just stellar!

Yelp
Chartreuse never fails to deliver. Went to Chartreuse on the spur of the moment with no reservation tonight. Gladly sat at the bar so we could watch the chefs prepare food. The bar is the best place to sit in my opinion. We had amazing dishes, a wonderful egg roll, a delish salad with blue berries and strawberries etc, a poached lobster dish, and the char dish. All were amazing! We topped the evening off with the candy bar dessert. We shared the dessert, but both of us said we should have ordered two. It was a wonderful evening as usual.. We appreciate the consistency of food and service of this fine establishment. One doesn't have to hope they continue delighting us as they have for a number of years now. Great job all of you.
