The 21 Best Restaurants In Jersey City - Jersey City - The Infatuation

"15 Fox Place isn’t like having dinner in someone’s home—it is having dinner in someone’s home. Though the owners don’t live upstairs anymore, every room in this house on a residential street in Journal Square is still decorated with wedding pictures and family mementos. The food is Italian-American, and while the courses on the $95 set menu change nightly, you can expect a lot of filling family-style dishes. Come hungry (and with your own bottle of wine—it’s BYO), because the six-course meal is hefty. After around five appetizers of things like polenta arrabbiata and eggplant stuffed with fontinella, there are a couple pastas followed by entrees like chicken roulade, and then desserts. You’ll definitely need a reservation, and you have to make one over the phone. Don’t worry, you can do it." - matt tervooren, nisha vedi pawar, kendal nicole lambert

Yelp
A visit to 15 Fox Pl is truly a one-of-a-kind dining experience that lives up to every expectation. I had the pleasure of coming here with a group of 10, and it was absolutely worth the wait--our reservation had been secured over a year ago, thanks to the efforts of a friend. It was an unforgettable evening, and I'm already looking forward to my next visit. Ambiance & Hospitality: The dining experience takes place in a beautifully decorated home, adding a sense of warmth and intimacy that you simply don't find in traditional restaurants. We arrived early and had the chance to take a leisurely look around the home before most of the guests arrived--what a treat! The space is gorgeous, and our group had a private and perfectly accommodating spot. The hospitality and service were exceptional, making us feel welcomed and cared for the entire night. Pro Tips: BYOB: Don't forget to bring your favorite wine or cocktails to pair with the incredible dishes. Come Hungry: You'll be served an abundance of food, so pace yourself! Each dish is so delicious that it's tempting to overindulge early, but trust me, you'll want to save room for everything. The Food: Where to begin? Every single dish was thoughtfully prepared, bursting with flavor, and beautifully presented. There wasn't a single thing I didn't like--every course was a standout in its own right. From the perfectly seasoned starters to the hearty mains and decadent desserts, it's clear that love and care go into every bite. It's hard to pick favorites because every dish was a star. Overall: If you're lucky enough to secure a reservation, do not hesitate. 15 Fox Pl is an absolute gem, combining a unique setting, impeccable service, and a dining experience that's both comforting and luxurious. It's more than just a meal--it's an event, an adventure, and a memory in the making. Highly recommend, and I can't wait to go back. #15FoxPl #DiningExperience #BYOB #HiddenGem #FoodieFavorites #ExceptionalService #GroupDining #WorthTheWait #HomestyleHospitality #FoodieAdventures

Yelp
I came here 10 years ago for a Yelp Elite event and have been dying to come back ever since. About two years ago I went on a mission to try to snag a reservation which was not an easy task. After a two year wait, my reservation date finally arrived last night and this place was just as good as I remembered it to be. This place is just so unique, located on a regular residential street in a regular home in JC. If you go around Christmas (which is what we did) the house is decorated beautifully for the Holiday and it is just like going to a family members home for a nostalgic home cooked Italian meal. It is BYOB and portion food they bring out one at a time are small but do not be alarmed, you will leave this place feeling absolutely stuffed to the max because you will have about 16 different small plates of food! Everything was delicious but my favorite had to be the polenta. The service matched the warmth of the house. The entire staff is extremely kind and happy to serve. I am thrilled I got to come here again and I am already and looking to make my next reservation with a big group of my friends. Everyone should experience this place at least once, it's fantastic.

Yelp
After nearly 11 months of waiting, I finally experienced dinner at 15 Fox. I reached out in September 2023 to make a reservation and when I finally connected with them (had to leave a message on their machine), they were scheduling for July 2024. I decided to book a reservation for my birthday in August. Dinner here was truly a unique experience. It reminded me of being at my Italian grandparents home with the old furniture, carpeting, wall paper, bathroom tiling, etc and all of the various framed photos and knickknacks around the house. The servers were friendly and treated you like family. My fiancé and I were seated on the main floor in a small room that had two tables of two. There were different rooms with varying table sizes throughout the house, accommodating various party sizes. As soon as we sat down just before 7 pm (I think we were the last group to arrive), the courses started flowing. The courses varied from tasting sizes to smaller, shareable portions. Some of the dishes were awesome and really stood out - the lemon pasta, the meatballs, the manicotti, the warm cookie/ cake w/ homemade ice cream - while others were average. They offer to go boxes, so you definitely can pace yourself and bring home any food you can't finish. At one point, in between appetizers and the salad/main course, they told us to take a break and explore the house and outside garden while they prepared for the main course. With dessert, they offered espresso and coffee/tea and passed around homemade limoncello shots! The shot was good and strong! We ended up nearly finishing 2 bottles of wine during the course of the meal (it's BYO). We were beyond stuffed by the time we called our Lyft home. Since there is very limited street parking by the restaurant as it's in a residential area, definitely use ride shares depending on where you are coming from. I don't know if/when we'll ever be back given how hard it is get a reservation, but I'm glad we went for my birthday!

Yelp
Must experience this at least once. Very difficult to get a reservation, sometimes takes months. Very good Italian food. No menu just allot of food coming youre way.

Yelp
Ok so I'll start off saying it took 5 years yes 5 years to get into this place lol!!!! We've been on waiting list etc !!! I do have to say the atmosphere is so nice and the waitresses were just OK.... The food on the other hand was delicious !!!! I liked how we got to sample each and every food and that it came in little plates so my review of 4 stars is for the food and the small plates the waitresses could of been a little more upbeat and I think 5 years was a long time got spring but food was a 10..... we will be back in the summer to enjoy outside dining if we can get in that is lol!!! Will recommend to others !!! Thanks !!!!

Yelp
WEAR YOUR STRETCHY PANTS. The food never ends. It is family style and small plates, but a million small plates will stuff you to the top! Half way through the meal, you're encouraged to check out the house and back yard, we were SO impressed that all this food was being pumped out by a typical house kitchen. We were convinced there was an industrial kitchen in the basement. Parking wasn't bad for us, but I do see how it can be tough depending on the day. It is pricey, So be prepared. The experience is what is factored into the price. Some plates were hit or miss, but I do think it is a nice place to see for yourself.

Yelp
A very comfortable getaway from the normal city life of Hudson County to experience fine dining from talented chefs in someone's house who bring you a selection of Italian omakase cuisine to your table make sure you sample it because the dishes just keep coming, so I would go here on an empty stomach, BYOB and you have to make reservations to go here, may take a year for over 10 people, good vibes and the music changes throughout the house and it's quite an experience if you're going for something non traditional it will cost $100/person and you can walk throughout the house and check out the decor and photos and books, the chef comes out which gives you a personal experience

Yelp
I don't know what the hype is all about. When we first arrived, we found a parking spot right outside. The street outside is filled with garbage. I had to step over someone's used BBQ charcoal. There were liquor bottles, plates, forks all littered right outside the front door. If these were real Italians, they would take pride in how the front of their house looks, especially bc this is a restaurant that you're paying A LOT of money for. The outside of the house looks dumpy as well. Walking through the door, I was pleasantly surprised. It really looked just like my grandmothers. I loved how all the rooms had different tables. We sat upstairs in our own room right near the kitchen. It was quaint and comfortable. The first course was an olive salad on tiny little crackers. One per person. It was good. The second was pizza fritta. The sauce on the sweet dough was good. Two per person. Third was fried stuffed peppers. They were ok. The stuffing was good. I would say two per person. Next was long hots. I didn't have any but heard they were good. One per person. Up next was fried eggplant. Not good. It was small and one per person. Lemon pasta was served. I absolutely love pasta limone. This didn't cut it. Was way too cheesy with a splash of lemon zest. I thought the Serving side was good, but maybe that's bc I couldn't finish it due to the taste. Manicotti next. One per person and small as well. Not good. It was like eating mush. The sauce had a nice taste tho. Then there was mussels and shrimp in some kind of breadcrumbs. There seemed to be enough for the table. I skipped this. Polenta came which was tasty. Dinner course was chicken wrapped in some kind of stuffing again with mashed potatoes and butternut squash. The butternut squash was really good if you like candied things. Great taste. The mashed potatoes were definitely instant. They weren't think and fluffy, more like thin and runny. The chicken was ok, not great. There was an ok amount. Dessert came. Chocolate cake w ice cream. This was good. Lemon cookies, tasted like play doh. Biscotti, ok. The coffee was horrendous. I've had better day-old gas station coffee. They also gave us limoncello which tasted like straight rubbing alcohol. This cost me $140 PER PERSON!!!! This price doesn't even include alcohol as it is BYOB. There is no way this is worth that much money. A total ripoff. Save your money and go eat at a real Italian restaurant.

Yelp
The experience at 15 Fox Place was amazing. You get an enormous amount of food and it is all some of the best Italian you will get in the NYC area. The service was fantastic. It took me more than 6 months to get a reservation but the wait was more than worth it.

Yelp
My review is specific to my phone calls with Mary Lou. I've seen so much hype about this place but I can't get past my experience trying to make a reservation. Mary Lou has been extremely rude to me on two occasions. I simply asked a few questions about the experience and making a reservation and was even happy to take a date a year out if needed. Her attitude towards what 15 Fox Place has become is so negative I can't believe it's still operating. I will not call back again and feel this place can't be worth it.

Yelp
This place exceeds any expectations. The atmosphere is so homey and warm and welcoming. It's perfect for a date or for a special celebration. The wait staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. We had a few people with dietary restrictions and they were able to accommodate. My advice when coming here is to come hungry and don't eat too much of one thing. You will love everything and want to have multiple servings of everything. But if you do that, it's hard to make it to the end. Pace, not a race. Now the food. Wow. Wow. Wow. The first course could have been a perfect meal on its own. The stuffed peppers, the roasted garlic, the eggplant parm...it was all to die for. Nothing was bland. Everything was fresh, served warm, and got better with each bite. There were so many dishes that I will just highlight a few. The manicotti was perfection. The pasta was so light and delicate that it was like eating a cloud filled with ricotta. The lemon pasta was outstanding but my one criticism is that it could have used just a touch of salt via some more Parmesan cheese. The shrimp dish was perfectly cooked and the salad served in the bread bowl was incredible. The tomatoes were so fresh and the dressing was light and flavorful. The polenta. Holy cow. It was so buttery and creamy and the Arrabiata sauce had just a touch of spice to it. And last highlight was the butternut squash. It was sweet and tender and made my husband who doesn't like vegetables a butternut squash fan. Save room for the dessert, especially the cannoli filled pastry with fig. Overall, the flavors were some of the best Italian I have ever had outside of my grandmother's kitchen. If you can go to this place, do it. You won't regret it.

Yelp
I knew I did a review back in 2014 and we started going in 2011, but we ended up getting to go back after COVID and coming back to the city. It's everything I remember, it is the hype, it is amazing and it remains one of the coolest dinner experiences in the US, still. Amazing staff, amazing people, amazing food and concept. An absolute treasure.

Yelp
Talk about a speakeasy, but in the form of food and this would be your place! They have 6 courses, but with roughly 16 dishes total. Come hungry and leave IMMENSELY satisfied. Nothing disappointed. If you're looking for a nice home cooked meal, look no further than 15 Fox! The culinary expertise, to the fantastic service, to the ambiance. Everything was above 10/10! However, make sure you book as soon as you can! They're generally booked months in advance. If I'm not mistaken in what I heard, they're booked through 2023 into early 2024! I will be back! (If I'm able to snag another reservation!)

Yelp
This was a fabulous experience with friends. Superb service and Vegan options- my food was so delicious. I also got my own little plates of food since the rest of the table shared meat/dairy dishes. We went at Christmastime, and because there were enough of us, we had our own room. The owner was sweet and shared the backstory of this beautiful eatery. It's definitely something to save up for- go for a special occasion, and it'll be even more memorable.

Yelp
Service good. No sub dish for allergy courses. This was confirmed at reservation and again at seating. Long reservation for at best mediocre catered food. I'd say it is the most overrated place so far. Price at 100 plus gratuity per head is not worth it. Go to Hoboken for real Italian dishes.

Ronald M.

Yelp
Not sure why this place requires one year reservation Food is Italian Diner food Basically cheap ingredients - one meat course Chicken No bread and butter No antipasti Save your money which is way overpriced - estimate 50 dollar food cost for Our 800 dollar bill

Yelp
When reviewing a restaurant with a 9 month reservation wait there's really very little to say that isn't implied. Just go. Go hungry and don't be on a diet. If you are on a diet be prepared to destroy it completely or stay the hell home. Yes, it's really THAT good.

Yelp
15 Fox Place has been on my Jersey City bucket list for quite some time. While there are plenty of quality Italian restaurants spread throughout JC and Hoboken, 15 Fox Place has a unique dining experience that you can't find anywhere else. This is because you are actually dining inside of someone's home. The setting is homey, quaint and adorable. I love the fact that this restaurant has been family owned and operated in JC for years. I love the fact that there are photos of the family covering the walls, and that you get a personal greeting and introduction about the restaurant from the owners. There are lots of other redeeming qualities about 15 Fox Place. If you have a large dinner party you also can reserve your own dining room. We had a party of 8 and it was sweet to have our own space. You can also bring in as much wine as you want, which of course makes for a super fun experience. When it comes to ambiance, hospitality and service 15 Fox Place receives high marks. Unfortunately, 15 Fox Place falls very short in the food department. Arguably the most important reason why one goes to a restaurant. This meal is 100 dollars per person and in my opinion the biggest rip off in Jersey City. Yes the dinner is long and has several courses, but let me elaborate on why this was a problem: -The meal has hardly any meat or cheese. There are several appetizer courses, but they are all cheap and small. Olive topped cracker, sesame breadstick with a garlic clove, potato chips with peppers, a piece of pizza (aka a small hard piece of dough with some sauce on it).... even the stuffed peppers weren't stuffed with meat or cheese, they were basically just filled with breadcrumbs. -There also isn't much seafood, and the seafood course that we did receive (garlic shrimp and stuffed mussels) were not enjoyable. We all felt that the shrimp was really soft (creepy) and those who tried the mussels said they were very fishy -Honorable mention for the eggplant, polenta and salad in a bread bowl. Those were the highlights of the meal, for me at least. -The pasta course was one very small piece of mushy manicotti with some spaghetti. The spaghetti limone was actually creamy and delicious but the bowl for 8 of us was so tiny. -The entree was probably the biggest let down. This is where your money should really take you far (aka would have been nice to see some seafood, steak or veal). Instead we received small dried pieces of rolled chicken with mashed potatoes and squash. This felt more like a lackluster Thanksgiving meal than a 100$ Italian supper. -Dessert was plentiful, but again, it's frustrating to see them go all out on parts of the meal that aren't nearly as expensive to produce. This especially all feels like a rip off when you remember the fact that wine isn't even included. I was debating between 2 and 3 stars, but I decided to go 2 when revisiting what we got for our money. BUT... The experience is still very cool, and our group had a great time guzzling wine and laughing in our own dining room. I'll leave you with this sentiment: Am I glad that I went? Yes Would I go back again? No

Kristi J.

Yelp
For any dining experience it is important to consider the food, the service and the ambiance. The service is good and servers are friendly. The ambiance is unique as it is a home in a neighborhood. Also, it is a local business. Those two alone do not justify the price. The food - don't be fooled. The polenta was good and the lemon pasta was good (all two bites you get served). The rest of the food was meh. The "pizza" tasted like an after school snack I made in the toaster oven when I was 12. The portions are ridiculously small, carb filled and spread out. This way you get the illusion you ate a lot and get full. Also, there is this big build up to the final dish which you think will be big. It's not and it's chicken. Seriously for $100/person, the big final dish is salty chicken. The desserts are accompanied with Folgers (or similar quality average coffee) and limoncello (tasted like straight vodka dyed yellow), just left a poor taste in my mouth. Based on previous reviews, it seems like their menu has hardly changed. Stop hyping this place up. Somehow they are booked out until February 2024. If anyone tells you this is the best meal they ever ate, they need their head examined. Bottom line: don't waste your money or the effort it takes to get a reservation here. Believe the other poor reviews, they are spot on.

joannie v.

Yelp
Ambiance was great. I really wanted to like this place. It really felt like home. But the food was not to mine or my husbands liking. I don't think we are hard to please. We both love food. I enjoyed the lemon pasta and the polenta. So out of 5 or 6 courses, I liked 2. For $100 a plate and no menu choices, I just expected better. Beware of the breadsticks, you might chip a tooth.

Yelp
One of the more unique dining experience you will have. You are literally eating in an old house and it is awesome. It is a family run place and they even let you get up and explore the house at one point in the meal. We sat in a small corner of the place and the charm is next level here. The food comes out quickly with all sorts of items. I couldn't possibly remember them all but you won't leave hungry. Whoever said they don't get enough food for $100 fee must have came in a big group or something. It is byob which makes it even better. Everything was delicious and we enjoyed it. The chef/owner even came out to say hello and he was a nice fella. This is a must visit in the area. Come check this spot out if you can get in. Btw, We found parking very easy right outside the restaurant.

Robin C.

Yelp
So this is nothing short of a great family run business. It's a cool little home tucked away in Newark and if you don't know about it it's worth going once. The cool rooms you get to sit in and the back terrace are quaint. The food is endless and just keeps coming, everything homemade in a tiny kitchen, not sure how they pull it off. I wouldn't say it's the best Italian meal I have ever had - but it is tasty and again, endless courses. However, and here is the part not to miss... for $100 a person- plus tip&tax- they are sitting on a gold mine. No rent to pay just purchase the food! Only 3 seatings and only open a few nights- they are doing it right! Keep it up and maybe they can all retire soon!!!

Yelp
Such a fun and delicious dining experience. Went as a party of 2 and ate indoors in May 2021. Surprising there are such mixed reviews on volume and quality of food because we had absolutely no issue. Every course was absolutely delicious, food was plentiful with generous servings/courses, and the experience was well worth the price tag. Nice plus it's BYOB too! Really amazing service and homey/comforting atmosphere. You're allowed to look at other rooms and wall decor, go outside, upstairs/downsairs during a break between courses which was a nice tough too. some of my favorite dishes were the polenta, stuffed clams, and peppers (chips/hot peppers as well as the stuffed ones). Highly recommend and would definitely go back with a group.

Yelp
Had a great evening here after not being quite sure what to expect. Have to agree with most of the reviews though: - 5 stars for the overall experience/service. Such a unique setting. Very charming with each room offering a different vibe. The staff is unbelievably friendly and obviously very proud and enthusiastic about what they've created there. - 4 stars for the food itself. Pretty typical Italian dishes. Nothing bad by any means just nothing overly stellar either. Not sure how often they change up the menu but the dishes we had were in line with every other review. - 3 stars for the overall value. $115 all in is incredibly pricey for what you get. Yes there is a ton of food, but given you are literally in someone's house and it's not a typical dining experience, you would think you'd get a discount on the price versus paying a premium. So net, it was a memorable experience and thoroughly enjoyed. It if was in the $80-90 range pp I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to people however at its current price tag you really have to appreciate the ambiance to make it worth it.

Yelp
Dining at 15 Fox Place is one unique experience. When arriving at your destination, don't be confused or alarmed.. it might seem like you're about to have dinner at someone's home.. and that's because you are ! Every plate that you are served is home made.. which makes you appreciate everything a little more! There are a lot of different plates brought out to you (it's family style.. so everything is shared) but they are all very small portions.. I did end up extremely full by the end of the night, but I feel like that was more because of how long it took to get all of the food rather than because of the amount of food given. There is also a small intermission in the middle of your dining experience so that you can walk around the house (which is super cute btw) and explore. Do I regret the experience at 15 Fox Place? Absolutely not. But if I'm being completely honest, I probably would not return. It was definitely different, but the price is a bit too expensive for me. ($100pp) I understand the fact that you're also paying for "the experience" but I think $50pp would be much more reasonable. Other than the price for the amount of food given, I have no other complaints. The business owners were extremely sweet and hospitable.. they really made you feel welcome! Spoiler Alert! I posted a picture of ALL of the food served.. so if you want it to remain a surprise.. then look away NOW!! Lol

Yelp
First off I must disagree with the negative Nellys. This place was one of the best meals I Had in 10 years. The food was very fresh. Everybody that's been there with me had a wonderful time. If you give reviews to everyplace and thing you do , How can you have a nice time and be in the moment. Relax and enjoy

Yelp
It was a unique place in a Residential area. Literally walking into a house like you're going to grandmas. For 90$ a head though, not worth it. The food was just ok, and the portions are reallllly small. They send out little pizzettes that taste like Elios frozen pizza, everything is like take a teaspoon scoop and pass it along. For the price I won't be back. If it were like $45 a head ok maybe. That's probably still more than what it's worth. It's basically stretching the meals out so you literally Get one bite. Food wasn't hot, food wasn't very tasty, and some of it was soooo over cooked. Baby eggplant roll the size of a pinky finger it was BLACK! So burnt and crunchy it had no taste but burnt. The manicotti was so over done it was like mush.

Yelp
What else can you say about a place that has so many reviews with such a high rating? Not much so I will keep it short with some recommended rules: Rule #1 - Come Hungry - I cannot reiterate this enough. One plate turns to two, two plates turn to four, four turns to eight - you get the picture. Eating light during the day is a must so that you can go nuts on dinner. And trust me, whether you mean to or not, it will get nuts. Rule #2 - Make your reservation well in advance. Dinner is promptly served at 7:30pm Thurs-Sun but a reservation must be made at least a couple of weeks in advance Rule #3 - A dinner menu is posted every Monday. Let them know at least two days in advance if there are any dietary restrictions OK and now for the fun stuff. You will be served plates upon plates of food here. Before you're anywhere close to dinner, you will be served a lot and I mean a lot of appetizers. Baked muscles, creamy polenta w/sausage, meatballs w/peas, homemade potato chips w/long hots, stuffed peppers, the list goes on and on. After the pasta course, you are invited to explore the house and see the courtyard in the backyard. This is known as your 'cardio time' as per the owner. Once you're back at your table, it's time for dinner, so don't fill up too much on the fresh salad that comes served in homemade baked bread. Next, you will enjoy your entree - for us it was baked chicken, mashed potatoes and squash. Make sure you save room for dessert - homemade cookies, house made Limoncello, a zeppole stuffed with cannoli cream - enough food to put you into a coma. Luckily for us, my girlfriend and I had our own private room upstairs and I was able to get up and walk around. This is the most full I've ever been in my life! We told them that it was our anniversary and her birthday and they even brought her a piece of cake with a candle. The staff was incredibly friendly, personable, and made you feel right at home. In fact, I felt like I was dining at my grandmother's house! We both agreed that we will be back but will next time be bringing some friends and family as this is a great place for large groups. Thanks for a great dining experience! 15 Fox will always come to mind when we have a special occasion to celebrate!

Yelp
Pricy but on my list of places to-go! Meals I could take pictures of before the fam devoured it! The meatballs with peas and fresh bread, tasted like something I can make at home and I can cook! They were so tender. I'm not sure if they were ovencooked but wow they had a nice firm bite too. The mashed potatoes needed some salt but my those butternut squash! Literally melted in my mouth! I need their recipe! Definitely something to write home about

Yelp
I found myself here as part of a group of six when a friend suggested we try it. She made the reservation weeks in advance as they have limited seatings and book quickly. To prepare for our meal we were told to bring lots of wine and an appetite (the meal overall takes 3 hours from start to finish). Logisitcally, 15 Fox Place is literally someone's house, so it's right smack in the middle of a residential area, and since it's in Jersey City, the parking is atrocious. Once you enter, you do get a homey feeling as the place is decorated as if people still live there. They have essentially made every room of the house a dining room in order to transform the house into a restaurant. Our party was seated in a private room upstairs, which made for an intimate experience that you don't really get at many other restaurants. However, the staircase is pretty narrow, so be careful especially when going down. I remember being afraid to drink too much wine over the span of our 3 hour meal in fear that I would take a tumble down the stairs at the end of the night. Also, one side of our dining room table was up against a wall, which made it very tight to get around. Even our waiter had trouble getting to my husband and I as the fit was so tight. Once the meal had officially started, we were again told to pace ourselves as a lot of food would be coming our way. However, I was a little disappointed with what they call "a lot". There were many courses, but a lot of them were bite sized (olive spread on a small cracker, bread stick, pizza bagel, etc). The ones that were not quite that small were served family style, so overall I'd say I ate just as much as I would have at any other restaurant. The standouts for me were the hot peppers & potatoes, and the polenta. I grew up in an Italian household where my mom and grandma would make these dishes often, and you rarely find them when you go out to eat. The best part of the meal, at least for me, came at the end when the chef/owner came out to talk to us and offered us some homemade limoncello. Overall, this is a really cool experience and something different. It reminded me of the holidays with my family with all of the different courses and homey feel. Overall, I don't think I would go back, especially considering the price tag. My mom and aunts are some of the best cooks I know, and for me I would rather visit one of them for the same experience.

Yelp
Without a doubt, one of the best food experiences I've ever had. Everything from start to finish was unbelievable. Every dish tasted extraordinary. The service was exceptional (Thank you DJ, Gabe, & Chef Richie!). The service before the dinner was also exceptional - Mary Lou is so kind on the phone and lays out all the information for you so there are no questions. Aside from the food, I loved learning the family and home history from DJ and Chef Richie. I feel like everyone at 15 Fox Place is family - and I only met them last night. They were so welcoming, kind, and lovely! I already am planning to call Monday morning to book my next dinner! Thank you all for such a wonderful experience.

Yelp
We are a young couple and go out to eat often. Fancy, casual, after a while things seem similar. Fox Place makes you feel you're at your mom's house while still having a night out (and no dishes to do!) The house is adorable, grandma-esque decor, BYOB. The owner walks around and tells you the story of how it became while his wife and son are in the kitchen cooking (2 kitchens, upstairs and downstairs). Comfort, hardy, good food all the way. If you are in the mood for Michelin starred chefs then save this experience for another time. Come hungry because its about 2.5 hours of small dishes served, from apps to dessert (including cannoli stuffed zeppole, yum!) Half way through the meal they encourage you to explore the house. Multiple rooms had parties of 6 or more and they were having a blast, very private. Highly recommended if you want a home cooked meal in a comfy home from, what could be, a friend's mother

Yelp
Was lucky enough to join a large group for dinner on St. Joseph's day at 15 Fox Place. What looks like an ordinary home on the outside opens up to an awesome dining experience on the interior. We were on the second floor and enjoyed course after course of rustic Italian cuisine - probably close to a 2.5 hour dining experience with a slight break in the middle where you can tour the house and wonder outside to the back patio. Definitely recommend for a large crowd. Go on St. Joseph's day for the special pastries at the end.

Yelp
This place is a dream. If you're the type of person that loves buffets because you get "a little bit of this and a little bit of that" this is the dining experience for you. This place is WAY better than a buffet, however. Top quality bites in grandma's dining room. People walk by and view the rooms, but it's not really disturbing - you're too busy enjoying the food. The only thing that's of SLIGHT inconvenience is the bathroom situation. There's one upstairs and downstairs, but they're both kinda cramped because the house itself is a little cramped and there's usually a line. Totally worth it for a magical experience. Worth every penny. Thank you for existing, 15 Fox Place!!!

Yelp
We went right after Christmas for dinner with a group of 6. We made a reservation well in advance, they have select seating times and a limited number of seats and book up quickly. It feels like being in grandma's house on Christmas day with every room filled with people eating a huge family style Italian meal. Every inch of the place for was decorated with the most gaudy and spectactual Christmas garb. They give you the option too to tour the house and see all the rooms and get the full experience. There is no menu, it's a 4 course meal of whatever their cooking up that day. Each course has a ton of options and so much to share, huge portions of absolute deliciousness. They serve you on plates and China from the 50s with adorable little snowmen and Santas on them. Come hungry and make sure you have time because you'll be there for a couple hours endulging, chatting and enjoying the atmosphere.

Yelp
Clear and simple: this place is quantity over quality. This is a family owned restaurant that's in a two-story family house. Deco was warm and welcoming, with different dining rooms decorated in different styles. Reminded me of going to an Italian grandma's house. Plate setting was beautiful. We were seated on the second floor and was the first table to arrive. We were told the tables were originally put together for larger parties, but were separated for Valentine's Day celebrations. The waiter warmly welcomed us and helped us opened our BYOB bottle of wine, and poured for us. Plate of olives and glasses of water were already on the table when we arrived. The meal started promptly at 7:30. First plate was a small, palm-sized dough with a thin spread of tomato sauce and sprinkles of cheese. The dough was meh, but the tomato sauce was great. Next followed the stuffed peppers, which my fiancé liked, but I thought it was way too salty, and the stuffing lacked depth. Homemade potato chips followed, the spicy peppers on top were a nice garnish, but the chips might as well been swimming in a pool of oil because that's what they tasted like. Don't get me wrong, I have a deep love for all things potatoes, but this was way too oily. Next came polenta with sausage. This was one of my favorites, but it was quite heavy. Very creamy. Fried eggplant with cheese followed - eggplant was so overfried that it had lost its flavor, and the cheese carried the dish. Meatballs were next - meatballs themselves were quite good, but the bread that came with was literally just white sliced bread. Not toasted, not buttered/oiled, no garlic, nada. Eating it with the meatballs was okay though because the meatballs were flavorful. My absolute favorite was the mussels - baked with lots and lots of garlic on there. But I liked this the most probably for the wrong reason: it reminded me of the Hong Kong style garlic steamed scallops. This was also probably one of the least oily dishes. Manicotti baked pasta came next. I've actually never had manicotti before, so I feel like I'm not a good judge of this, but I could tell at the very least that the pasta was way too soft. There's no bite to it and everything was kind of mushy. Asparagus creamy penne came out at the same time - these honestly tasted like something I'd whip up at home myself for a quick dinner. Nothing special. The waiter encouraged a break to walk around the house at this point. We walked around and looked at all the rooms, read some reviews framed on walls. Next came the main course. First came the celery pepper shrimp salad in a cocktail glass. The celery and shrimp tasted fine and refreshing, but suddenly, super pickled sour pepper! It was just way too overpowering and vinegary to serve in large pieces, and there were big pieces in there. I couldn't quite swallow it, and I love sour foods. Another salad came next - arugula garlic bread salad. Was it garlic bread? If it was, I couldn't taste it. The bread was very crunchy though, and I enjoyed it. A lemon sorbet was served after this to I assume cleanse the palette. Much needed. Main meat dish came next, and it was horrific. The stuffed chicken roll-up was horribly dry. So dry that I refused to eat a second piece. I mean, the edges were really as dry as cardboard. This was hands down the worst dish of the meal. Squash and mashed potatoes came with the chicken, the squash was phenomenal. If I wasn't stuffed already I'd have killed it. Finally, dessert. Molten chocolate cake with homemade vanilla ice cream. I ate all of it, and it was good, but I didn't get a molten center at all, and the cake over all tasted "wet". The ice cream was great, this is coming from someone who isn't a vanilla person. You think you're done? No. You get a shot of limoncello, a pair of cream puffs, coffee or tea or espresso, and biscotti and lemon cookies. We got around 20 plates of food, to sum that up for you. By the end we hated ourselves and we're falling asleep. In short, come for the welcoming service, the home-like feel, and the quantity of the food. Don't come for the quality of the food. I understand some people love this style of home cooked, heavy Italian food, but if you're used to the New York Italian dining scene, this is probably not for you. At $90 a pop, this was an experience, but an experience I would not come back to.

Yelp
You better come hungry WOW! When you pull up outside it's so deceiving, no signs that there's even a restaurant, you feel like you are literally walking into someone's home. Once you are in there's an immediate cozy vibe, you feel the history in that house. The servers Kim and Michelle couldn't have been kinder and more attentive. Even the owner came out to chat about half way through. The food was great but it just kept coming, and coming and coming. ... The whole evening was an experience.......a must try!!

Yelp
Everyone rated this as a place you'll remember .... yeah you'll remember to never go back there. I am so disturbed by this restaurant and the reviews. If you never had Italian food you would think this is ok. Let's start off with the 100$ per plate. The food combined for 6 people would be IN TOTAL 75$ worth of food. The whole point of a restaurant is the food. I was incredibly disappointed. My brother set a reservation for our fathers birthday. He really wanted to have it at a genuine, fancy ,& good quality Italian restaurant. He decided on this place based solely on the fact that it is rated so high and is even recommended on websites. Those publishers should be sued for blatantly lying and the owner should be too, for ripping people off. No one who has taste buds or had been to a restaurant before in there life would write an article praising this place, unless there being compensated to do so. I would of rated it two stars because the atmosphere is very cool. But the ratings are way too high overall. People need to be aware of the meal prior because my poor brother paid 700$ for all the food totaling maybe 75$. The owner has made enough profit. He should at least give better food. It's not even what's served during a traditional Italian 6 course meal. This was HORRIBLE FOOD! Like i said, cool atmosphere & the staff was very nice but I'm not paying for a nice waiter and I'm not paying for an atmosphere... I'm paying for food. It was TERRIBLE.

Yelp
My friends and I heard about this place on NJ.com and decided to try it out. We're always up for new experiences. We arrived to 15 Fox place, went in and immediately felt at home. The place was so warm and inviting. Almost like grandma's house. We made our way to our table that was located in the upstairs "bedroom". The room was dim, cozy and the table was set with antique china. Uba immediately came in to open our wine and give a brief introduction as to what we should expect. About 7:30 the food started to come out. The first course were the appetizers. Stuffed peppers, homemade chips with peppers, shrimp, polenta with ragu, eggplant rollatini and mini pizzas then the past course which was a lemon pasta. Uba told us to pace ourselves in the beginning of the meal and he wasn't lying. You get ALOT of food. By the pasta course you are stuffed. After the pasta course you get a 20-30 minute intermission. We all went out back to smoke and enjoy a drink by the fountain with the sweetest little kitties the house took in. At that moment I really felt the experience. The place is not just a restaurant. They want you to feel like you are going to a relative's home for dinner. They do everything they can to make you feel welcomed. I kinda didn't want to leave. When we went back to our table more food came out. Manicotti then, sorbet, the main course which was stuffed chicken, mashed potatoes and butternut squash. Finally dessert which was a vanilla cake with home made ice cream and an assortment of cookies. By the end of the night we all needed to be rolled out of that house. My 100% honest opinion of the place: Quantity not quality. The food was delicious, the service and overall experience was excellent but... for $90 a person to have pasta, eggplant and chicken didn't seem legit. It was ALOT of food though. If you are just going for the food and expect a $100 worth of food you may be disappointed.

Yelp
This place is truly something else is the best way possible! I live in JC and finally came during Christmas time when they have their decorations up! What an experience. (May I also add that when calling to book a reservation in advance as you will need to do, I was explained the process and greeted by a kind women and it was painless!). First of all come hungry! I really barely ate the whole day before coming here, and when I left I had never been so full! The idea for this place was genius. When you first sit down you are greeted as though you are walking into a family members house. Once I sat down with my fiancée I could not help but explore the decor around me. Small trinkets and pictures of family members, along with stacks of cook books. The table was already prepped with ice cold water, salt, pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes. Once seated we got olives in olive oil which is my favorite way to start any Italian meal! Next we were explained again what to expect and how to prepare ourselves for the feast we were about to endure (tip: don't finish every appetizer, but definitely try them all!). I won't say what we were served, as to keep it a surprise for future foodies, but we were brought the cutest appetizers on adorable plates and in miniature sizes/portions that were so delicious. I cannot even say one bad thing about the food! Afterwards you will end up having salad, pasta, and a palette cleanser all in preparation for your meal. After the meal we had multiple desserts and coffee, as well as a shot of limoncello. I felt like I was at home. Talk about doing things right. The staff was also so nice. You can tell they really care about their business and the people that come there. They are truly happy to do what they do. I cannot wait to come back with more friends and family. This is honestly my top 3 favorite restaurant experiences and it could not be more delicious and unique. I kissed the women who served on the cheek before I left because that is how at home I felt! Lastly, the fact that it is BYOB is nice and the price is reasonable for the amount of food you are getting. You can't help but want to tip a lot at the end.

Yelp
10 out of 5!! If you feel otherwise, my condolences for your lack luster ability to enjoy delicious food. Came in on Saturday night with a group of 10, Sat in the front dinning room and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Service was great as we were checked on constantly. For the menu: 1) Olive Spread on toast: Absolutely delicious 2) Pizza Bread:Tasted like Pizza Fritta, 3) Peppers and Potato Chips: JC couldn't have crafted something this fantastic 4) Stuffed Peppers: Goodness Gracious, Stop the madness 5) Baked Mussels: Stunning crunch from the homemade breadcrumbs 6) Palenta with a Sausage Gravy: Once again, JC couldn't master this dish. Worth the price of admission. 7) Manicotti: Straight forward and delicious 8) Gnocchi with Broc Rabe: Delightful 9) Panzanella salad on what can only be described as a loaf of Zeppole 10) Mini Meatballs: Very light and crispy 11) Chicken Rollatini: By this point it was tough to breath!! 12) Lava Cake: Get the casket ready!! 13) Cannoli and Puff Pastry.... 14) Coffee Espresso and Limoncello A completely different dinning experience for most and very enjoyable for those who grew up eating like this! I can say without a doubt, we will be traveling to 15 Fox several times a year moving forward! Small Tables to Large Parties, this is a knockout. If I had to ask for 1 thing for our meal, it would have been to add rare red meat! That's All! Already working to convince the next member of the family to have his birthday here!

Yelp
I'm a bit hesitant about writing this review. I mean, I've been living in Jersey City for 30-something years and I've never heard about this place! Thanks, Yelp! Best kept secret of Jersey City and now I don't wanna share! Anyway, 15 Fox Place is a hop, skip and a jump away from Journal Square. Reservations are a must. And a history test of Jersey City. OK, I kid about the test but definitely call to reserve first. There are limited seats in this house, and yes it's literally a house. One would never suspect they would be walking past a Zagat-rated restaurant in this neck of the woods. And then you enter and think, "Am I still in Jersey City?" Decorated like Nonna's house and a fine-dining restaurant, there are a couple of rooms that can fit a party of up to 10. I believe we were seated in an area referred to as the Tuscany Room which accommodates up to 6 people. Now for the food... It felt like we had a 20-course meal! I lost count after the fifth dish and everything was scrumptious! Not counting the olives that were already on the table when we arrived, these were the highlights: Pizza Alla Napoli, Polenta Arrabiata (my fave!), Crab Cakes, Peppers, Handmade Ravioli, Grilled Chicken..and so much more that I can't remember them all. After the "10th dish", they let us mosey on down to the adorable garden in the backyard to relax from the food marathon. After the main dishes, the owner brought over homemade biscotti and limoncello, in addition to the dessert we were already having. Our bellies were so full and so happy for days! And it was great preparation for the vacation I was leaving for the next day: Italy! So stop reading this now and reserve! $90 for this multi-course meal and it was worth every penny.

Yelp
It pains me to rate this, but in the name of food I need to be honest. The pros were the BYOB situation, warm and inviting atmosphere that feels so homey and relaxed. I also really loved the eggplant - now reading the reviews it looks like while it is a "surprise" menu they mostly do the same dishes? 1. Breadsticks (from the grocery store? Same comment as a few of the other reviewers) and olives (can't comment on this since I don't like olives) as starters were lackluster and maybe an indicator? 2. "Pizzas" were fried dough with a dollop of generic red sauce (would have been great to play up the red sauce and any specialness of it....) it kind of reminded me of what I use to make after school for a snack 3. Eggplant - loved!! Nice and crispy and lots of good flavor 4. Shrimp and Mussels - one each - very buttery and rich, shrimp were small and definitely should have been bigger to pack a punch and give some depth and texture to the dish. 5. Tomato Salad - ugh such a disappointment since tomato salad is my faVorite! The tomatoes were mushy and lacked flavor which really just threw off the whole dish since they were the star. 6. I was suffering by the chicken, mashed potatoes and candies yams. The dish felt like diner food (which I love being from NJ, but not what I expected caliber wise) 7. The lemon pasta was inedible. I'm sorry but I am a garbage disposal and one spoonful was one spoonfim too much. Lemon pasta from Lil Frankies is amazing and maybe they should try a similar take? 8. The canteloni type pasta was nice though could have used some basil or additional seasoning Overall It was a lovely meal because I got to spend time with my husband when we never see each other and the 3 hours was actually a good respite and forced us to catch up...but I do think there are some areas for improvemement that I'm confident they can tackle!

Yelp
Love love love this place!!! So unique and the food is amazing! BYOB and the staff (owner) is so friendly!! I'll definitely be back!!

Yelp
I'd really like to leave 1 star for this place because the food was awful. They server you 15 dishes, but they are all terrible. I don't even want to write about individual dishes. The service we received was great though and the setting was nice. That's pretty much why they received 1x more stars...

Yelp
This place is legendary. Review over. Now, I won't be eating here on the regular or else I'll just be a fattie but as a special occasion, this place is a MUST. Set off less than a mile from Journal Square this place is a JC gem. You can't call yourself a JC foodie until you've dined here. I'll give it to ya straight then go into detail. The experience was 5 stars the food was a 4.5. I cannot recommend this place enough but the food is extremely heavy, filling and I just wasn't a fan of the filet mignon. However the disappointing entree doesn't take away from my final rating: 5 stars. For a fun and unique night out in Jersey City this is it, especially if you are trying to crush wine and eat simple, authentic, old school Italian fare. First of all the hosts are just the most special people on the planet. I hug them. I don't know if you'll be able to swing it but, they are just so lovely. They make you feel at home in their home and it's really just so comfortable. No stuffiness of dining at a restaurant here, just relax and settle in. It's BYOB which is definitely a must since this place per plate is bit pricey; with gratuity about $115 per person but you leave never wanting to eat again. To be honest that isn't the best feeling but, every once in awhile, go ahead, you deserve it. The anitpasti is downright amazing: stuffed peppers, olive tapenade, polenta with sausage chunks, pizza friti, all some of the best Italian cooking I've ever tasted. Grandma's cooking has never tasted so good. It goes on for hours. Then the pasta courses which were down right special. Oh, a perfectly dressed salad in a bread bowl was thrown in there too. How about that. Then the main meal. Ughhh. The steak. Too much. I would have been happier with a lighter fish dish, 1/2 chicken, something. The steak was cooked well done and if asked, I would have asked for it medium. That was the one minor off of what was a perfect and super fun evening. To be honest, it doesn't even matter since by the time the steak came I was so full and could only taste a bite. The coffee, dessert and homemade limoncello was of course a delightful way to end the evening. This food gorging and wine fest was all in the privacy of me and my party. They have separated dining rooms so you can enjoy that privacy so my party of four who were 6 bottles of wine deep didn't disturb the whole place with our shrieks of laughter and rowdiness. This was an amazing experience and I look forward to going back in 6 months after I've digested the last meal from 15 Fox Place. Thank you to the hosts for this spectacular experience. **** Make reservations ahead of time.
