"In 2021, the team from always-packed oyster outlet 167 Raw turned their attention to even more seafood with the opening of 167 Sushi Bar. The sliver of a restaurant, which is 50 percent chef’s counter, offers a menu of the classic choices of nigiri, sashimi, and hand rolls. The eatery also offers izakaya options like a katsu sando and yakatori." - Erin Perkins

My wife and I just dined at 167 Sushi Bar today, and everything was incredible—just as amazing as we remembered from our visit almost a year ago. The food was so fresh and delicious, and every dish looked like a work of art. A special shoutout to our chef, Stacy, who made the experience even better with his skill and warm personality. We left feeling thoroughly impressed and satisfied. We can’t wait to come back again! Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for exceptional sushi and a great dining experience.

Google
So we accidentally came here thinking we were going to the Oyster Bar. It was pretty funny when our whole table sat down and realized what we had done. But it was a good mistake. The food was very good and our waiter, Caleb, took excellent care of us. My husband had a bao that was on special because he is allergic to shellfish and I had the small omakase. I enjoyed my dish very much. I usually get rolls and not nigiri and was pleasantly surprised.

Google
One of the best restaurants in Charleston! Blown away by how good every dish is. Dumplings are a must, the sauce is unbelievable! Lobster bao is the pictures I shared which was incredible. Sat at the bar and Shane and Stacey were so knowledgeable and friendly!

Google
I think my expectations for this restaurant were way too high. The restaurant is extremely small, offering bar seating and two tables for larger groups. My boyfriend and I sat at the chef counter, which was actually really cool because we had the pleasure of watching the chefs in action. However, it was very noisy and I felt overwhelmed. I’m a sushi connoisseur so I had high hopes for the sushi options. However, our waiter recommended the Spicy Hamachi roll, and we were not blown away. We also got the lobster bao buns from the Specials menu and for $26, we only got two buns. I wish I could say they were worth the price, but they most certainly were not. They were very dry and not super flavorful. I will say, the duck fried rice and charred octopus were both incredible. If you get the opportunity to sit at the chef counter, ask the chefs what their favorite menu items are.

Google
Absolutely delicious food! We had actually seen a few reviews online on 167 Sushi Bar and had to try it! The location is very cute and the service was fantastic! The food was so fresh and made right in front of you. I highly would recommend this spot to tourists and locals alike! We will definitely be back soon!

Google
This was one of the best sushi restaurants I have ever been to in my entire life. We got the small sized omakase and it was amazing! The lobster fried rice is an absolute must-try, the charred octopus was also delicious!

Google
As locals, this spot has easily sky rocketed to the top of our list for most favorite restaurant in town! Head Chef Vuong is a mastermind and everything we had was absolutely delicious! The nigiri is so fresh and next level when talking flavors! Service was all around exceptional; we had such a fun time sitting at the bar talking with Vuong! He made fantastic sake recommendations and was very kind to us celebrating my birthday! Also, probably the best cooked octopus we've had in the entire city! Can't wait to go back!

Google
Wonderful experience at this restaurant! I loved the teamwork within the staff. Jake was incredible and accommodating. He knew all the dishes so well and gave the best recommendations! The food was so savory, flavorful and delicious! This is a must try! The octopus is hands down the best octopus I have ever tasted (not kidding). Beer and wine selections were great as well. The restaurant is very small, make sure a reservation is made. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
We had an amazing lunch at 167 Sushi today. The food was incredible, so fresh and different combinations. The service was lovely, polite and attentive. Overall, we just had a wonderful experience.

Yelp
Food The sushi is always impeccable. It is one of my two favorite sushi spots in Charleston! The food is always fresh, with its own twist, delicious flavor combinations, and creative specials every day! Service The service is always spectacular at 167 Sushi. Everyone is beyond welcoming. They are always up to share their favorites on the menu, which is helpful since all the menu items are DELICIOUS! Ambiance This quaint yet lively establishment is everything that one would want in a unique sushi bar! Although it is small, do not let it fool you, this sushi bar is filled with high quality fish, top notch service, and an experience that will want you coming back for more.

Yelp
This isn't a high-end sushi restaurant; this is a hipster gastro-pub that serves sushi, and I think that's important to keep in mind before visiting. There is a huge focus on fresh product and local ingredients, rather than traditional sushi ingredients and flavors. The chefs have mastery of traditional techniques, but then apply local microgreens and hipster concepts. If I went back, I would opt for the omakase rather than ordering for myself, as I think the experience would be worth it. We had the salmon, big eye tuna, soft shell crab, and walu "fresh catch" specials, as well as the shishito pepper special, and then had 2 of the regular rolls. We were also served a walu amuse bouche. Everything was tasty. Portions were restrained. The servers were very helpful, though when it's busy there can be quite a delay between ordering and receiving your dish. We were seated at the sushi bar, and it was fun to see the orders being made, though it's a pretty obstructed view relative to many other sushi bars I've been to. Selection of wine and sake was good. If you want sushi, I would go somewhere else. If you want to experience local culinary talent riffing on the idea of sushi, this is your place.

Frank P.

Yelp
Sashimi was incredibly fresh but it's also a little heavy on the seasoning and prep side. Tasted great but a bit salty and distracting from the fish itself. Our waitress was very friendly and gave me a great sake recommendation. The place is a bit small, but it's a modern, charming, upscale sushi bar vibe with equally flashy dish presentation.

Tiffany A.

Yelp
Have been here many times and you truly cannot go wrong!! Everything is incredible and completely worth the splurge. It is very small inside, so it is not suited for parties over 5 or 6 people, and is all high top style seating. We sat at the chef's counter most recently which gives you a great view! We ordered the Dumplings (always delicious) and a few rounds of nigiri, ranging from salmon, hamachi and tuna. I prefer their nigiri over the sushi rolls on the menu but I have never had anything on the menu that was not good. They do not serve cocktails, only beer and wine.

Teddy W.

Yelp
Food: This is a great sushi spot. Experiential dinner at the bar, getting to watch the rolls prepared and being close to fellow patrons. Ambiance: Upscale spot without being stuffy. Service: excellent

Katie W.

Yelp
We've heard incredible things about the 167 restaurants. We have recently moved to CHS & were dying to try 167 Sushi Bar! We snagged a 5:30 reservation at the bar & loved every minute. The staff was friendly & attentive, service was SO quick. Seriously every bite was delicious - we especially loved the lobster bao buns & the crab Rangoon roll. The salmon shiso roll is spectacular- the lemon confit makes the roll soooo tasty. Great ambiance. Small restaurant. They have cute matches as well!

Alona G.

Yelp
The best sushi we ever tried. Tube roll, blue tuna nigiri, dumplings Dan Dan noodles - the best. Their selection of sake is fantastic!!!

Seyla T.

Yelp
Service was wonderful here! Food comes out pretty quickly - my boyfriend and I sat at the bar and it was fun to see how our rolls being made in front of our eyes and then handed to us. We ordered tuna sriracha, spicy hamachi, crab rangoon, and shrimp tempura rolls along with the dan dan noodles. The rolls were so tasty. My favorite is tied between either the shrimp tempura or the crab rangoon. The noodles were tasty, very strong cumin flavor from the lamb, but I like cumin so enjoyed this dish! Great spot for our date night and will definitely be back!

Joshua S.

Yelp
Great vibe, jazzy music, and warm inviting ambiance. And the food is prepared exquisitely. The octopus in particular was exceedingly well done. And finally, the wait staff is very attentive and really cares about the quality of the entire experience.

Carly M.

Yelp
This was my second time coming here and both times did not disappoint! I am from Chicago, but my sister lives in Charleston so I always ask to go here when I come to visit! The fish is fresh and the options are great. The place is very quaint so you need to make a reservation well in advance if you ever want to get in here. The service is great and you get to talk to the chefs at the bar. Highly recommend if you love seafood and sushi!

Lisa S.

Yelp
Wow! This is a cozy little sushi bar. Great and incredibly fresh sushi with a twist. We had a variety of rolls, nigiri and the crab cake. The sauces on the sushi are very unique and the fish is such high quality that it melts in your mouth. The crab cake was made with sweet potato which I'm not a fan of but I'd eat this crab roll every single day. The service was beyond friendly and attentive.

Ali M.

Yelp
167 Sushi is a true gem for sushi lovers! First and foremost, they don't offer soy sauce, but trust me--you won't miss it. Every dish is perfectly seasoned and dressed, allowing the fresh, bright flavors to really shine. It's easily some of the best sushi I've had. The space is small and intimate, with top-notch service that's friendly, inviting, and so much fun. We even got to sample a special dish as they passed around bites to the whole restaurant, which was a delightful surprise. Highly recommend this spot for anyone who appreciates truly exceptional sushi!

Briana L.

Yelp
Great food and staff! They were super helpful when we couldn't decide what to order. We got the salmon shiso, spicy hamachi, and spicy lobster fried rice. They all tasted amazing, but my favorite was definitely the lobster fried rice. It's a small spot that I can see filling up very quickly on a weekend, but I went on a Tuesday around 3/4PM and there was plenty of seating.

Paul b.

Yelp
Come here every time we come to Charleston SC, small bar with fabulous sushi, sake and dumplings! Wish they has aa little better wine list like an awesome Pinot........that's the only criticism

Rose E.

Yelp
I heard great things about their Lobster Bao (and sushi!), so just had to come check this out on my latest visit to Charleston... As expected, the place was super-small. Only 3 full tables, and the rest of the seatings were bar stools! I actually hate bar-stool seatings (especially for meals)...but I figured the foods may be worth it? Since this was part of my solo shopping excursion, I stopped in alone around 2:30 pm. I thought that this would avoid the busy crowd, and the claustrophobic setting during the rush hour...and I was right in doing so. I was able to slide right in without a wait. BTW, they won't let you make RSVP for a table of 1 on Resy's (?!?), so I kind of had to wing it. Thankfully, there were actually full tables open at the time I arrived...but I figured I should sit at the bar since alone. Despite my disenchantment with their super-awkward seating situation (again, mostly bar stools!), I loved how the place was well air conditioned! In fact, the ambiance was much more tolerable than I had anticipated. I am not a fan of small space, but I gotta admit that there was a certain charm to this tiny joint. So yes, I actually survived bar-stool dining alone! Now the best parts...their foods! I ordered the Lobster Baos, and the Dumplings...both of which I've seen on Yep. Believe me, I came with very high expectations. Well, here's the deal. The Lobster Baos were AMAZING...every bit as good as I anticipated! Although it came in a set of 2 (instead of 3, as seen in some of the Yelp pictures?), I thought the generosity of the Lobster in the buns more than made up for it. Not cheap, but they were loaded with seafood...and even the buns were super-plush! SO amazing!! Then the Dumplings. Although these were delicious (am betting everything on their menu is at the very least delicious!), they just didn't live up to my expectations. Somehow, I expected this amazing, melt-in-your-mouth experience? However, the dumplings just weren't that soft or juicy. Also, I thought the presentation wasn't quite as good as I had hoped. Still, no regrets trying this. Overall, I thought the foods here were exceptional. Possibly the best Japanese in Charleston?? BTW, the foods came out relatively fast...something I didn't expect. Also, bar-side service was very good! Anyway, am so glad I finally checked out this gem, and I definitely intend to return and try their sushi rolls...and probably the Lobster Baos again!!

Allie W.

Yelp
I've always wanted to go here and finally got to try it! It was so good that I went back for lunch the next day. So many GF options and the soy sauce they use is always GF. Most places do not do their crispy rice dishes GF so it was so exciting to be able to get that! Loved the small omakase plate - the pieces literally melted in my mouth. The next day I got the single sushi roll of the day which was $25 but very filling!

Skyler Lynn M.

Yelp
Locally loved, intimate sushi bar that's absolutely phenomenal. We sat in front of the cooks and what a fun experience. All the staff are a blast!! The food..unreal. You cannot go wrong with a single thing on their menu. Already can't wait to go back!

Megan M.

Yelp
Imagine sushi so fresh, it practically leaps from sea to plate. That's what this place delivers, with flair. Our evening started with a warm greeting from a hostess who felt like an old friend, offering spot-on menu recommendations that seemed tailored just for us. Each 167 restaurant maintains a remarkable standard of creativity, consistency and taste. It's clear they're not just playing the game; they're redefining it. Every dish was a visual and culinary delight, showcasing a mastery over the art of sushi that left us thoroughly impressed. The consistency and deliciousness across their varying locations is a testament to their excellence. This location is very cozy but provided a very intimate dinning experience.

Gabriel M.

Yelp
Tiny little up-scale Sushi place. The food was all excellent, fresh, and there is a nice vibe in there. Wouldn't say it is the very best Sushi on the planet, but it is high quality for sure. Service was perfect. Pretty pricey, be aware.

Chelsea M.

Yelp
Visited 167 Sushi Bar on a Monday night. Though the restaurant is pretty small we were seated immediately. Loved the minimalist atmosphere with sushi decor. I order the Crab Rangoon Roll and the Lobster Fried Rice. The portion sizes are perfect for sharing. The Fried Rice had layers of flavor which made for a memorable bite. Fresh ingredients, and a perfect balance of spices. The Crab Rangoon roll was also delicious and expertly made. I would recommend for anyone looking for a unique sushi experience!

Shannon A.

Yelp
When I tell you this place cured all the sushi cravings that I had! Let me start off with the con before I talk about how much I loved this restaurant! Only thing I didn't like is I wish it came with MORE- and maybe that's because I just loved it that much because in reality, the dish sizes were just right! If you don't get the crab fries rice and or the crab rangoon roll, what are you doing??? I told my friend that this was probably one of, if not the best sushi I've had! Honestly, I want to keep this short & sweet (at least shorter than my other reviews) because there's so much I could say! GO VISIT THIS SUSHI SPOT

Sabbir S.

Yelp
Amazing food. Was visiting Charleston from Brooklyn, they were open late, super accommodating for our baby. The ambiance was nice, food was spectacular. Great Dan Dan noodles, and rolls.

Katie F.

Yelp
My friend and I had an okay experience. The restaurant was very loud and I had to practically yell at the person next to me. The sushi was mediocre and the dumplings were really just pork meatballs in a miso sauce.

Bailey D.

Yelp
What a unique, intimate experience! 167 Sushi Bar was the perfect spot for a date night while vacationing in the Charleston area. I made our reservations online about a month in advance - because I read online that they book up quickly! Indeed, there are only 24 seats in the whole restaurant - but that only adds to the atmosphere further. We ordered quite a few different menu items - wanting to sample as much as possible from their raw and cooked offerings! I appreciate that the menu is split up as such - so anyone in your group can find something they'll enjoy. We kicked things off with a few different types of Nigiri - all of which were fresh and flavorful. The Tuna Sriracha was my favorite. While we were enjoying our first bites, someone from the kitchen brought us out the Local Lettuce salad. We actually didn't order this, and let the team know there had been a mistake. It turns out our server misheard us, but since it was already made, they allowed us to have it at no charge. After one bite ... we knew this salad was something we should have ordered!! What an incredible salad with a delicious dressing and fun texture in every bite. The attentive service made it even better. The rest of our meal was just as delightful. We moved on to the "Izakaya" side of the menu, sampling our way through Duck Fried Rice and Charred Octopus, both of which were amazing. Throughout dinner, our server doubled as an excellent bartender, offering several Sake pairing recommendations. I absolutely recommend 167 Sushi Bar to Charleston locals and tourists alike, especially if you're looking for a one-of-a-kind dining experience.

Brad P.

Yelp
My experience at this downtown restaurant left me with mixed feelings. While the ambiance exuded a delightful charm and the staff's friendliness was commendable, the overall impression fell short when it came to value for money. Comparing it to other downtown establishments, the pricing seemed a bit steep, casting a shadow over the overall dining experience. However, the positives include a welcoming ambiance that sets a pleasant tone for the evening, and the staff's amazing and friendly service enhanced the dining experience. The menu featured a selection of dishes, including sashimi, lobster bao, and charred octopus. The sashimi and lobster bao landed in the "just okay" category for me, failing to justify their price points. However, the standout of the meal was the charred octopus - an absolute must-try that lived up to its promise of being amazing. In conclusion, while the restaurant offers a pleasant atmosphere and exceptional service, the pricing and the average quality of some dishes left me with reservations. The charred octopus, however, is a shining star and a recommendation for those willing to explore the menu.

Mahima P.

Yelp
One of the best meals I've had in Charleston. The restaurant gives New York vibes. The food was just so fresh and delicious. I can't stop thinking about the charred octopus. Absolutely amazing, will be visiting again soon!

Elisa G.

Yelp
Beautiful fresh, fresh, fresh fish in a smallish space with nothing but sushi bar or chef station seating. I love the ability to interact with the chefs, see what they are preparing and ask for recommendations. The general tso's oyster bao was to die for--two orders later . . . Yum. The pickled onions on top sealed the deal. Sashimi was fresh (I know, I told you that already) and the salmon shiso roll was delicious. Tuna on crispy rice? Yes please--so yummy. Great spot, waited about 15 minutes as a walk in. Excellent hostess made sure we had wine to stay cool while waiting.

Katherine A.

Yelp
Unique and fun sushi rolls that have amazing flavor. Aside from sushi, they also have a lot of amazing small plates like wontons, dumplings, noodles, etc. Everything we tried was SO good. We sat right at the sushi bar and it was fun to see them prepare all the food. We are already planning our next visit because there were so many menu items we wanted to try.

Ollie G.

Yelp
Sit at the sushi counter, it's the best spot in the house. Super friendly chefs who love to chat as they work. Everything was delicious but the standouts were the Ocotopus which had an amazing sauce and were super succulent. The other was the local flounder nigiri which was just so fresh tasting with a clean mouth feel. I really wish they had more local fish especially at this price point. It's definitely one of the more interesting sushi places to go to. On a side note oak barrel sushi is closing at the end of the year so if you haven't been there it is a must. We're talking uni, seared wagyu, toro, etc for $40 for the chefs choice. Thanks for making my Birthday a special time 167 sushi!

Tori G.

Yelp
Three stars for service and freshness, but 167 Sushi Bar left much to be desired when it comes to portion size for the price tag. Don't go here hungry. The portions match the size of the restaurant in that both are unbelievably small. The pros: The fish was super fresh! I loved how they tell you where the fish is from (ie Japan) and have specials with different kinds of fish. The host and wait staff were so kind, personable, and professional! And that crispy tuna rice! WOW! So good! The cons: the rice in the other sushi dishes/rolls was hard, some rolls (yellowtail roll not pictured) lacked flavor other than spice, and the portions were so small I need to go to Publix across the street for some sustenance. Reservations are a must if you want to try this trendy sushi spot.

Molly C.

Yelp
For my last meal in Charleston, went back to a Raw 167 restaurant, but this time tried the sushi bar. We were seated at the chef's table- a tight squeeze, but awesome place to watch the food being prepared and get to chat with the chefs about the ingredients & the meal. Overall, we tried a little of everything and were not disappointed. Highlights included: -Dumplings -Grilled Octopus -Soft shell crab roll Definitely, will recommend to friends visiting Charleston & already excited to come back and check out the lobster fried rice next time.

Sarah M.

Yelp
Great place to stop in! Pretty expensive for the amount of food you get, though. Staff is wonderful and very accommodating to allergies. Music playing is a *little* weird for the type of restaurant but I didn't mind too much. All the fish tastes very fresh and each dish was beautiful. Would come back here but only for special occasions

Stephanie D.

Yelp
Best sushi I've ever eaten. Great service - the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Definitely order the cucumber salad (we loved the first order so much that we ordered a second), sriracha tuna roll, tempura shrimp roll, and the pork bao bun.

Sarah M.

Yelp
I was craving for some sushi so I decided to come here for a very late dinner. Showed up around 9pm without any reservations. It was still a 30+ mins wait, but it was worth it. It's a small and cozy sushi restaurant with very limited seating. Staff were very friendly, polite, and attentive. I ordered two dishes: Small Omakase - Chef's choice of 1 maki roll and 4 pieces of nigiri. Honestly can't tell you the type of fish for each one of them besides the salmon and tuna, but they were all very delicious and of high quality. My favorite was the one with the sour plum on top. Crispy Wonton Duck (a special) - Still feeling a little hungry, I ordered this special that they had that evening. Definitely crispy (kind of hard to bite into in my own opinion), but the duck had a strong flavor. In addition, the chili mayo(?) sauce had an even stronger flavor than the wonton itself. Could cut back on the sauce, but still a delicious dish.

David K.

Yelp
Outstanding. Super small place. Creative sushi beyond all the usual stuff. Sit at the counter if you can.

Paula C.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday night with reservations. Got seated pretty quickly at the bar. Such a cool atmosphere and vibe! The service was incredibly friendly and attentive. I liked that you can order as you go and they don't rush you. We loved the crab Rangoon roll and hot chicken bao. We even ordered seconds. The salmon roll definitely had some interesting flavors. Pretty decently priced for the quality of food and atmosphere. Would be a great place for a date night. Can't wait to go back and try some other rolls!

Haley S.

Yelp
Perhaps my new favorite restaurant for special occasions. 167 Sushi Bar offers an upscale and intimate ambiance inspired by Asian-American culture/cuisine. I love how they infused low country fried chicken and collard greens with the Chinese bao bun and kimchi. Somehow the combination was spectacular. We really enjoyed our sushi's platter, as well. My favorite rolls were the Crab Rangoon and the Royal Red Shrimp-- soooooo good! Our server was clearly also an experienced chef and enjoyed chatting with our table. He offered us a lot of interesting information about the ingredients in each dish, which helped us feel closer to our food. We received great service and enjoyed a really well paced meal. I will absolutely be back for more. Pro tip: make a reservation. But if you have the opportunity to sit at the bar, you won't be disappointed by the experience.

Emily D.

Yelp
Best sushi ever! Everyone is so nice and the food is unreal. Highly recommend! Love the variety of menu and wine list

Jill S.

Yelp
Ate here on both of my two visits to Charleston. The sushi is delicious and amazingly fresh! Great chef specials! Dumplings were amazing . Definitely will come back on my next visit

Shamila P.

Yelp
I really want to give it a higher rating but comparing it to the other downtown restaurants I really thing this was pricey but the food was just okay. Ambiance was really nice, staff was amazing and friendly. We ordered some sashimi, lobster bao and charred octopus. Sashimi and lobster was just okay for me but that charred octopus was amazing and must order !!!

Tom D.

Yelp
I went to 167 Sushi with my family and we loved it! This was my second time eating there, and it was as good as I remembered! The service was quick and friendly, and the ambiance felt very cozy. I loved the lobster bao buns and bbq bao buns, and the salmon nigiri was excellent. The shrimp tempura roll was delicious as well. This is a spot I will come back to whenever I am in Charleston!

Richard M.

Yelp
Not your standard sushi roll experience. They had fatty tuna (toro) and fresh Uni (sea urchin). Great food, very personable crew and though a little pricey, worth every cent!

Adam S.

Yelp
One of the best authentic sushi spots in Charleston. Great food and recommendations from the staff. The Hot Chicken Bao and Duck Fried Rice were delicious. The location is small but great for a date night.

J H.

Yelp
I've been here many times. The food is excellent and the staff is absolutely amazing. Nigiri is always fresh and always on point. The Izakaya dishes are consistently changing and are always great as well. When they serve ramen in the fall and winter it is my favorite that I've had in Charleston.

Sabrina H.

Yelp
This was one of the best spots I've been to in a while. The whole menu looks special and it was hard to decide but I finally decided to order the dumplings and the crab Rangoon. The dumplings stole the show. Beef dumplings both steamed and friend with the most incredible sauce and texture. I was in heaven. The Crab Rangoon was a Version that they turned into a roll. It was alright. A bit creative but I did like the chili jam at the bottom. I sat at the bar and chatted to the chef and my waitress was such a doll. I will be back here for sure. A total gem . Also to note the place is tiny. So get there early or grab a reservation to be safe. But sooo worth it!

Maggie T.

Yelp
Literally sooo good! We were visiting Charleston and recommended this little sushi bar, and it was amazing food and personalized service! Can't wait to visit again!

Lauren S.

Yelp
Wow I am so impressed!! Talk about delicious and fresh sushi. We received wonderful service from our server Jed. The chef's are fantastic!! Very cool ambiance, would highly recommend if you're in the Charleston area!

Kaelyn D.

Yelp
Best sushi.... Ever??? Seriously. The food is mind blowing here!! Small but mighy, the vibe is intimate perfect for a date night. I think they only have 24 seats or something? Get the crab Rangoon roll and thank me later. The pot stickers were to die for. The hot chicken bao bun was amazing too. Literally nothing bad to say about anything! The service was speedy and everyone was super friendly. This is now one of my top favorites in town!
