We are out-of-towners who love this place! The beers are always solid, and my military husband loves the in-jokes and subtle military tributes. We went twice this past weekend, and the live music was acoustic guitar both nights, which made for a great atmosphere. We ate from the food truck (DD214) and it was also delicious!

Google
1700 has all the ingredients for a top notch brewery - veteran owned, military friendly, chill vibe, welcoming atmosphere and staff, family and pet friendly, awesome food trucks and THE BEST BEERS! Love their focus on quality and how they always have something new to try. Whether you are looking for something adventurous or down with a “plain old lager” (see what I did there?), 1700 has you covered. Highly recommend making 1700 your primary place for incredible brews, delicious eats and a great time!

Google
This place and the owners are top notch! You walk in and immediately feel welcomed. You’re greeted with a smile at the counter and a friendly hello. The business itself is clean and very well kept. The outdoor area has such a nice vibe! Great place!

Google
First time going here. We loved it. The beers were on point, the live music was good, the game selection was impressive and the food truck that was there was really good. We're definitely gonna be regulars at this place.

Google
Love a good veteran-owned local business! Met a couple of the owners behind the bar and had fantastic service. They offer great in-house beers for affordable prices (also loved their flavored hard seltzer) and with generous discounts for military and veterans. Good indoor and outdoor seating, relaxed atmosphere, and is family and dog friendly. Highly recommend!

Google
Really cool place and people. Found out about it while attending a Red, White and Brew Social Networking Mixer and enjoyed the beer and atmosphere. It's also Veteran-owned, which is a major plus!

Google
Terrific brews. Everything we tried was excellent. From the precision of well-done standards to balanced and flavorful creative brews that stood up even as they warmed. On top of it, and excellent atmosphere, fun and attentive staff ... Really worth going out of your way if you're in town. 8.1/10

Google
Came for grand opening weekend. They had a good number of beers and something I love: good stouts. They do have something for everyone. IPAs, Belgians, lagers, and sours. It's an impressive set up for a nano brewery. I'll definitely have to be back soon.

Yelp
Still a fun brewery with kind service and a variety of drinks (including non-alcoholic) Stopped in for their 2nd anniversary party and enjoyed their home brewed root beer and hubs and friends enjoyed their beer selection. They had musical acts playing and the tent had heaters and was completely covered since it was a rainy day. Also had a food truck on-site for all the hungry people. Today was Flame & Pie and it was delicious as usual! Families and adults are welcome and enjoyed an afternoon of good music and drinks! And pizza!

Yelp
1700's cool. I was outside on a frigid night for live music. Lots of beers to choose from including 4 NA beers. In lieu of a 4 or 4.5 star review I settled for a 5. Cheers!

Yelp
This is a military friendly small brewery, with tons of military related decorations all around! They have a decent selection of beers (heavy on the IPAs) but also some lighter ones like a Pilsner and a sour or two. They have tons of games available, including board games and ones that are nailed to the wall like connect 4. They also have food trucks come by, but unfortunately they didn't have one the day we went. My Pilsner was pretty good and I'd be happy to come back! The bartenders were friendly and happy to let us try a few different beers to make sure we loved what we ordered.

Yelp
Very small, located next to a jujitsu studio or something like that. kinda hard to find. They have a food truck on the weekend and some little snacks for sale as well. I had a flight which was good. Wasn't blown away but wasn't the worst beer either. Just decent, solid beer!!! They have a pay it forward wall. and the guy behind the counter was really nice games for adults and kids. much bigger inside than it looks. They take credit cards and sell sodas so a nice little place for some brews!

Yelp
I love supporting local businesses, especially veteran owned and this place is great. They have a wide variety of nicely brewed beers, an interactive staff, and a great support from the local community. Our dogs love this place too and gives their approval, which is a plus!

Megan S.

Yelp
What a great place! Atmosphere was awesome. The bartenders were fun! It was trivia night. It felt like "home". I loved the PAY IT FORWARD wall. Such a cool idea! Tons of games; board, table and wall!! Please stop and check it out!

Yelp
Great place to enjoy a night out, especially when they have live bands like when Piha Aloha is there, giving the vibes of Hawaii, good music, good food, and great selections of brews!! The staff is always friendly and very helpful.

Yelp
I used to live within walking distance of this place and it turns out that it opened a few months after I moved do a different part of town. I only found it through scrolling around Google Maps! It's a very small, simple brewery, about a dozen beers or so on draft. The staff was very courteous, they let me try about six of them before I decided on what I was going to drink. The highlight for me was definitely the Wheatie Pops (Cinnamon Crunch). It really did taste like cinnamon toast crunch, it should not have tasted as good as it did. But it wasn't too sweet, the beer was well balanced with the spice notes. To the brewmaster who made this on, job well done. Didn't love every beer I tried, the size of a full pour is kind of small, and they're currently open 8 hours per week. But they have a friendly staff and some good beer.

Yelp
Twisted Knot has been open for about 6 months now and not only have we become regulars, but we joined their beer club (Terrarium club)! It seems like every week or 2 there's a new beer release so there's always something new to taste, and it's all still delicious. I'll echo another Yelper and say that unlike some of the other breweries in the area where you have only one or 2 highly drinkable options, TKB is good across the board. The staff and owners are fun and friendly and we love the atmosphere here; it's small but cozy and it's a great place to unwind on a Friday or Saturday with a beer or 2, paired with the food truck of the day and it's a great experience.

Yelp
Great place. We ended up here by accident. The other brewery close by was packed with a concert and social event. We saw this on the map and came here instead. Good selection and fun games.

Mark B.

Yelp
Small local brewery with a nice selection of different craft beers on tap. Had a very patriotic feel to it, which I loved. The Murph Irish stout is a must try.
google avatar

Jonathan C.

Yelp
Cozy nice little place. Bartenders were nice and chill, and allowed to taste the different beers on tap. There's also a wall for "free" drinks to different service members.

Yelp
This is such a fun brewery! The staff are the owners and you can tell they truly love it. They are just starting out and already have NAILED their beers. Quite a big selection for small batch brewing and you really can't go wrong with any of them. I'm excited to see how Twisted Knots beer continue to develop. If you're a craft beer lover this brewery is a must! You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
I am here all the time and this place is great. They are constantly changing their beers and come out with some truly unique stuff. :) Beers are reasonably priced at $4-6.50 for full pours and half pours are priced $2.25-3.50 (some $5 special half's). Love the half pours so I can try more beers.

Kathleen C.

Yelp
Our first time here and definitely will be back! The beer was delicious (especially Fly the Ball) and the atmosphere was laidback. The ladies at the bar were welcoming and friendly!

Yelp
Less than five hundred yards from my job, and I've never stopped in. Glad I took care of that oversight today. Unassuming location in an industrial park located next to a gym. Welcoming area contains a nice large sofa and a television to watch, then you enter the tap room, where you are greeted with a detailed listing of beers, from wheats, to sours, to IPA's, to fruit brews. A friendly staff and helpful staff is pulling the taps and answering any questions you may have. Just past the tap room is the brewing area which is separated from the tables with large glass windows so you can sit along the bar and observe the brewing area or you can sit at the tables and enjoy your beer. Also noticeable is a large selection of board games from Scrabble to tic-tac-toe to whatever you might like where parents can bring their kids and play board games while the parents enjoy beer and the kids a soft drink. Extremely family-friendly place. I had a "Short Tour", a nice wheat beer....smooth and crisp with a nice back end. Good stuff. 1700 is veteran owned, and in our area that's a good sign. I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Nice brewery in midtown NN. Good selection of beers, got the Red Tail Ale and it was very good. Staff could not have been nicer, they lit some heaters for us and it was toasty even though it was cold out.

Yelp
This is such a gorgeous layout. It's a hole in the wall kind of place with the cutest little brewery set up. All the beer is made in house with different fun events. And the beer tastes AWESOME!!! My favorite was the digital thread.

William J.

Yelp
Love the military theme and how they support the military. Also really like the military themed names for their beers. You can tell the owners are veterans. The whole atmosphere is great and the beer is on point. They have a good selection of beers and everyone I tried was very good. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Great beer from a truly micro brewery. Very small space inside, which makes a great spot for a beer and private conversation with friends. Somewhat hidden location makes it even more appealing, even if in store-front industrial space.

Yelp
If I could give this brewery 6 stars I would. The staff and owners are very welcoming and their selection of beers is amazing for a smaller brewery. I didn't try one that I didn't like. You can tell that they put a lot of time, attention to detail and creativity into everything they make. If I lived in the area this would be my definite go-to! Plus...it's Veteran owned and operated, and it shows. They take pride in their product and it shows!! When I'm back in town this will be my first stop!!

Yelp
I walked in not knowing what to expect as it was in an office building. You walk in and see two tables to your right and the bathroom. When you go down a small hallway you then get exposed to the actually brewery! They had a food truck when we went which is always a plus at a brewery. I enjoyed several of the beers I tried. They are kid friendly and have a nice, but small outside area as well. It is one of the smaller breweries I've been too, but they have a good amount of seating for the space. I could see myself going back to the twisted knot. when I'm in the area. They also have cute shirts!

Yelp
What a gem! If you're looking for some great beer, warm people and a cozy, laid-back space, you won't be disappointed by 1700 Brewing. Wonderful veteran-owned business that is very community-focused as well. They fundraise for local non-profits and it's a great space for families, too... lots of coloring books, chalk and board games to keep the fun times rolling! We're so lucky to have them in in Newport News.

Yelp
Happy to have another craft brewery in the area. We were happy to see a nice selection of low ABV beers available on a hot summer day. The Always Take the Stairs session is easy drinking while the Main Sequence has more hoppiness to it. The Dust Pale ale is a bit too yeasty at first, but was still a nice light hot summer day beer. We're looking forward to returning for another tasting.

Yelp
We stumbled across Twisted Knot and really liked the place. It's kind of tucked away in the office park but totally worth seeking it out. They have a good selection on of beers. The place is kid friendly and they have games for them to play. The staff is really friendly as well.

Kevin T.

Yelp
Beer selection is very good, from hoppy TIPA to milk stout. Enough seating for about 30. Plus a few picnic tables out in the back lot where kids can play and food truck will park. Pet friendly. I bit pricey at $5 for 10oz pours. Nothing spectacular that sets it apart.

JT T.

Yelp
Had a great time visiting TKB for the first time. Beers were outstanding! We had a flight and drank them all, unlike Tradition, Brass Cannon, Oozelfinch and others where half of your flight sucks. Cant wait to go back and enjoy full pours. Of the numerous local breweries in the area this one is at the top of our list along with Bull Island.

Sandra H.

Yelp
Very good. I recommend it to everyone. The food truck Flame and Pie was awesome. Great pizza.
