It was very hot and I was craving a Caprese salad. I had recalled seeing a tempting one at 1760. It is my favorite salad and frequently make myself as well as indulge at many restaurants.
when salad arrived, presentation looked lovely, until I realized it was on a bed of finely chopped iceberg lettuce, like you might find on a hoagie, and tomatoes were anemic, with hard white centers. The amount of finely chopped basil was approximately 2 leaves. Only flavor was from balsamic vinegar.
Our waitress never came back to ask how things were. Out of hunger I ate 1/4 of salad and when waitress came back to clear table I, who almost never complains at a restaurant, stated salad was awful, and not edible. She stated she had one recently, took my plate and promptly presented bill, with no compensation, or offer of something different to eat. Upon leaving, hostess asked how all was, and I asked for managers name. She said she would get them. A woman approached who I recognized as weak day bartender. Once again I stated shortcomings of salad and it was not salad I had seen in last 2 years. She rolled her eyes and stated it says shredded lettuce on menu. In fact it says, crisp lettuce. She was in no way apologetic for my dislike of meal. Caprese salads is a simple salad, with flavors coming from red ripe tomatoes, an abundance of basil, sometimes an infusion of garlic, softened by fresh mozzarella. What I was served was tasteless and expensive, dressed in a decent presentation. Cavalier attitude of waitstaff and management was appalling. I have enjoyed other meals I have had here, but this attitude colors future visits. Cheap subpar ingredients that perhaps other diners don't recognize, is poor business. And not doing a thing to make the experience, right, somehow appalling. Word of mouth is a powerful tool regarding bad food and service, hence my review and the people I have shared my experience with. I wasn't looking for free meal, I was looking for a decent meal that tasted good. Had to go home and make dinner. Clearly management doesn't care at this establishment.
