Yelp
Summary: The 17th Street Farmer's Market is a farmer's market located on (drumroll), 17th Street.
Experience: We stopped here after finishing a few hour walk on the Canal Walk. We arrived at about 2:30 PM on a sunny but not roasting Saturday afternoon. From the street, there appears to be a lot of items for sale, but once you're inside the area, you can see that most of the booths are vacant.
I'm new to the area so I don't know what used to go on pre-2010 (when more positive reviews existed on Yelp), but the overall market was a bit underwhelming.
That's not to say that a few of the vendors didn't have some nice looking produce and items. There was one stand that had a myriad of produce available including tomatoes, peaches, figs, peppers, and other fresh looking items. The prices seemed fair too, and if we were in a produce-y mode, I'd have purchased some. There was also a few homemade craft and jewelry stands that had some nice looking items, although I didn't see the prices.
Some of the stands weren't quite as impressive. There was a stand that had a few different peppers in small quantities and one that had about 20 kid's books. I think it's neat that there are a range of items, but I'm not sure how many people are going to think to check a Farmer's Market for kid's books.
Overall: If I were in the area again I'd check to see what items existed, but I just wasn't blown away. It seemed like a perfect day to be out selling things, yet the majority of the area was vacant. I can't compare it to other Farmer's Markets in the area since I have yet to experience any, but my opinion on 17th Street's so far is "A-OK".
