We visited this café today and ordered ribs, chicken breast, and the Frank Shank Pie. The food was very tasty, with an unusual presentation of the pie. The staff were polite and attentive. It’s clean and cozy. A nice place to relax after work and have a beer. I’d also like to highlight that they have a kids’ menu, and each child was given a wonderful set with coloring pages and stickers – that’s really cool, an excellent idea to keep children entertained. Thank you so much!

Popped in here for an impromptu lunch while in Johnsonville. Greeted by friendly staff as soon as we walked into the bar. Had our dog with us, nice to have a dog-friendly bar. Menu had plenty of options, I went with the Spicy Buffalo wings & Blue cheese sauce. Hot as this was. Made my mouth burn but I loved it. My partner had the Bubble & Squeak. There was plenty of kai on her plate & she said it was tasty as. Staff were attentive and there was a good buzz around the bar for a Sunday. Plenty of TVs to watch sport on as well. Will be back again.

The food was awesome. We were there for a packed Sunday lunch but even with almost a full house, the staff were amazing. All really lovely and very attentive without being annoying. We had Poppy who served us, she was so lovely. Definitely be going back next time in I'm Wellington

This place was O for awesome. We drove in from Auckland and the evening was wet, cold and pouring so we decided to drop into Johnsonville and found this place 1841, the name exudes mystique so the wife and decided to give it a go. Everything about this place was big and tasty. I mean by the time we finished our yummy entree we were full, but we still managed to get through our delectable chicken filo, and had to doggy bag the railway ribs because we simply ran out of room. Btw we had the ribs for dinner the next day, fancy that, eat for two days on one visit. To top it off the service was top notch, a nice young man waited on us all night, superb! Thank you 1841 and Johnsonville and Welly, we will return despite the weather 👌

Hey great venue, great food. Daily specials and the best one I think is on a Monday night 2 for the price of one main meals. Busy place and booking a table will save you time and the wait. Staff are friendly and helpful. Heaps of parking but be care what car park you are parked in as the supermarket car park is right there and only 60mins of parking allowed and they are very happy writing parking tickets, where the parking for 1841 is smaller with no parking rangers . Suitable for the whole family and is licensed with a great range of tap beets, bottled beers and great new Zealand wines as well as imported wines. Has a smoking/ coveted area, for all year round outside dinning. Definitely worth a try and value for the money

The weekly Wednesday night quiz is a mash up of questions covering a huge number of topics. I've been going every week for 4 months. Love it. Get a team together and come join the fun. No charge for the quiz, but do stay and enjoy the food.

Yelp
This is more like a pub with food than a restaurant. I went on a Friday night and luckily I'd booked as it was busy. I expected a more relaxed and quiet vibe, but it was fine for a group to meet. The menu is quite vast with options for all tastes. The Ribs are very popular. I had the fish of the day which was nice. They are very accommodating of diners' dietary requirements and the staff are lovely in that regard. They will split the bill too. In general it's just a pub really - with a sports bar area. I'd go again if I was in a group.

Yelp
1841 is a local pub in Johnsonville, and they do a great job of catering for the whole community. They do a little bit of everything - a night on the beers with friends, dinner for a group, watching the footy, or maybe you're keen for one of the weekly quiz nights. Recently I've seen them book in a few lounge acts, and it's quite nice hearing someone crooning away while you're dining out. I've turned up when they've been packed and it's never been an issue (although maybe book in advance if you really want a table), as they're always keen to give you a good night out. The food is good quality as far as pub food goes. They have menu that changes up every few months, while their staples like the Brod Burger will always be there waiting for you. My biggest problem is trying to narrow down exactly what I want to eat, as there are always too many good options! Their drinks selection is quite decent for a local bar. They do well priced Monteith's jugs, a range of bottled beer, and also Chomp on tap for those of you more discerning types. They have a cider on tap too, and the house wine is... about as good as you'd expect a house wine in a local pub. Pro tip: check out their website and see what deals they have on each night. They do weekly quizzes and screen most rugby games (TVs around the place and a projector in the main area) - this is great if you're after a night of entertainment, but maybe pick a different night if you just want a nice meal with friends. Assuming the sport nuts and those out for a casual pint have stopped reading here, here are my tips for a good meal there: - Grab a couple starters, they're all good. I particularly like the prawn twizzlers and the breads - Get the fish - the catch of the day is always good, and they always used to do a good salmon dish too - Don't feel like fish? The burgers are all good. Everything else is good too by the way - Save room for dessert, these are pretty tasty too - Don't forget their cocktail menu. This isn't a cocktail bar, but they do whip up a nice Moscow Mule Hope this all helps, and leave your own review so i can see what you thought of the place!

Yelp
1841 is a great local bar, I've been there several times with friends for quiz nights where we are always greeted by lovely staff and we can chill out in a slightly classier pub setting. The $15 jugs of cider are mine and my friends favourites, which go well with the bar food menu of wedges or nachos. As a vegan I find I do have to be annoying and alter menu items such as taking the cheese and bacon off the wedges or asking for no feta with the roast vege salad, however the staff always accomodate however one waitress did say to me " if we were busier we wouldn't change the food for you" which was probably the only negative experience I've had. The food is affordable and delicious and I love the atmosphere. They could however put something decent on the large televisions they have everywhere.

Yelp
Great service, good range of drinks & solid pub food with plenty of offers. Busier than we thought too.
