"This immaculately kept bistro is set in the heart of a pretty Lake District village and its name is a reference to the year the property was first built as the local blacksmith’s. Menus showcase seasonal local ingredients in well-executed, modern British dishes. Convivial service and seven comfortable bedrooms further add to the appeal." - Michelin Inspector

Oh my goodness, we have just spent a 2 night break at this wonderful place. On arrival we got a lovely surprise, half a bottle of champagne was included in the package we had booked! Totally forgot so what a nice welcome. Our room/bathroom was very comfortable and tastefully furnished with complimentary refreshments. On our first night we had the 7 course tasting menu and the second night 3 course al a carte , although it is rather more than 7 or 3 courses when you factor in the complimentary freshly baked breads with flavoured butter and exceptionally tasty appetisers etc. Oh also included is a range of hot drinks and delightful petit four. Each course was a delight for the taste buds, every flavour complimenting the other. All top quality ingredients are used but the skill of the chef, Phil, is the real artist who brings it all together, I did threaten to kidnap him and bring him home, he thought I was joking ha ha. I could write a book about everything we ate but I will refrain and just say please try it for yourself, you will not be disappointed. It is not a low budget establishment but you get what you pay for and in our opinion worth every penny. All of the staff are friendly and offer amazing service without being overbearing which makes for a very relaxing and enjoyable experience, we were very well looked after. So the location.... in the village of Pooley Bridge on the shores of Ullswater so it speaks for itself. Amazing walks from the door in one of the most beautiful places in the world and worth a mention there is onsite parking for residents which is always a massive plus for me. A massive thank you to all of you team for making our stay a truly memorable one ❤

We had a lovely comfortable stay. The room was warm with a nice view and had a sofa and a very nice bathroom. The food was top notch, beautifully served with excellent wine pairings. Great breakfast. All staff friendly and helpful and helped us check in a little early, which was great as we arrived as storm Amy was building up. It was so good to be warm and dry!

Me and my wife just recently stayed at 1863 for our minimoon and we couldn't be happier with the experience, food, service and the luxury of the suite that we stayed in (room 8). We had the al a carte and the 7 course tasting menu over the course of our stay and the food was exceptional along with the recommended wine pairings. The staff were really friendly and the room/suite was comfy, stylish and in our opinion fairly priced for the quality. We will be going back every year and can't wait. Thanks again 1863

My Husband and I recently stayed in the Gables Suite following our wedding for our Mini-moon. We booked the à la carte menu for one night and the 7 course tastings menu for the other, both were fabulous! The room was spacious and perfectly presented, the staff were all extremely welcoming and professional. The restaurant owner made us feel so special taking time to talk with us and congratulate us, even Champagne on the house! The whole stay was magical. We look forward to staying again for anniversary’s and future special occasions!

I stayed here with my partner, having booked it as a night away for a treat. The food was genuinely exceptional (we had the tasting menu), the rooms were lovely and as advertised, and the staff were incredibly helpful and kind. The breakfast was spot on. Certainly not the cheapest night out, but worth it for a treat (you're not paying for wetherspoons here!!). We would really recommend you give it a go!

We had read about this place and we booked for a stop off on a longer journey. It was fantastic: a warm welcome, bright clean room, comfortable bed. Best of all was the brilliant meal, picture pretty and tasted wonderful. We ordered different dishes and shared half each. So many highlights but the cheese custard amuse bouche and the turbot with zingy lemon gel potatoes were my favourites. My partner loved the lamb and the honey sponge with damson. Highly recommend a stay here. We will be back.

Had a wonderful 2 night return stay at 1863. Excellent food and service, nothing was too much for the staff to deal with. Enjoyed both 7 course tasting menu and a la carte dinner. Great breakfasts too. Rooms very comfortable. Do hope to return again.
