I was first introduced to 1865 during an R&B networking event and was genuinely impressed by the ambiance, warmth, and overall energy of the space. The ownership and team came across as welcoming and professional—everyone except a bartender named Ian. That night, his demeanor was sharp, condescending, and outright unpleasant. We initially gave him the benefit of the doubt, assuming it was due to the crowd and stress of a busy evening.
Unfortunately, that excuse no longer holds. Last night, I returned at 6 p.m. with friends visiting for the holidays. The bar was nearly empty—two guests, no music, no rush. Despite the calm setting, Ian once again delivered the same rude, dismissive attitude. His tone was sharp, his responses unwelcoming, and he made my guests visibly uncomfortable. It was embarrassing and completely unacceptable.
This behavior is a stark contradiction to the culture and energy the owner initially represented. As a Nashville native, I’ve watched this city grow and take pride in its hospitality and evolving nightlife. 1865 had become one of my favorite spots—one I’ve confidently recommended to many people. After this experience, I’m hesitant to return myself, let alone bring others.
The lack of accountability, professionalism, and basic hospitality displayed by Ian is not reflective of Nashville values nor the standard a venue like 1865 should tolerate. For future guests, I strongly suggest seeking service from anyone else available. Ian P is not someone I would ever recommend interacting with, and he certainly should not be placed in any position that represents or manages the face of 1865.
