Best Cakes in Austin | Eater Austin

"This elegant little cafe is located downtown in the historic Driskill Hotel. While partaking in some food and bubbly, be sure to save some room for namesake chocolate cake with rich chocolate ganache. There are indoor and outdoor dine-in services." - Courtney E. Smith

Amazing atmosphere. Such a sense of History in the hotel. The cafe has great brunch. I had the ladybird egg white omelette. It was so good. I ordered a to-go one to take home to my son. You have to go in and order at the counter and then you can pick where you want to sit, whether it's in the cafe itself or out in the lounge area of the hotel or on the patio. It was great fun

Google
Went for breakfast and it’s some of the best baked goods and coffee I’ve ever had. Plain and simple. I got their waffle and bacon and it was awesome! My wife got the gluten free blueberry muffin and fruit and wow! The atmosphere of this spot, being in the Driskell, is a really cool vibe! 10/10

Tucked inside the historic Driskill Hotel, the 1886 Café & Bakery is a cozy, elegant spot with vintage vibes and Southern charm. From the beautiful decor to the warm atmosphere, it’s like stepping back in time in the best way. We enjoyed delicious pastries and comforting breakfast, all made with care. The service was friendly, and the ambiance was relaxed yet refined. Whether you’re in for a hearty breakfast or just coffee and dessert, it’s the perfect place to pause and savor. ⭐️ A must-try in downtown Austin where history meets flavor.

I had the Steak and eggs, It is a flank steak, I had mine medium rare, I felt like they cooked it perfectly. It was delicious and very filling. They recently changed the menu, so some of the older choices are no longer available. I attached the updated menu, at least the food side not the cocktails and drinks. The building is pretty amazing it's a beautiful bakery and the hotel is even more opulent.

I wish I had taken more pictures to show my breakfast! But the truth is that it smell so good that I couldn’t wait much to eat it! The place is wonderful with the old fashioned look, and the food is everything, I had steak with eggs and it was simply great, the orange juice was fresh, and the desserts taste was amazing!

Lovely atmosphere inside with a nice format that seems to shorten the wait. We arrived at peak brunch time and we didn’t have to wait too long, both for a table and our food. The huevos rancheros were very good with crunchy tortilla and ripe avocado. They came with well cooked eggs and refried beans. The bagel and lox was very good with fresh, quality toppings and a great amount of salmon. The oatmeal was good, but pretty standard. Their banana bread was outstanding! Definitely one of the highlights of the meal. Great location downtown and I would definitely come back, either for breakfast again, or for lunch!

Google
Brunch was amazing! I went this weekend with some girlfriends for brunch and we loved it! The food was very well priced for the quality of food we received. I ordered the Madame Croque which is pictured here and it was just as good as it looks! I also got a mocha latte which was alright. All together for my personal meal and drink together I spent $25. Not too mention the place is beautiful and the service was very quick and friendly. I honestly could not ask for more.

Yelp
I had two charming and delicious experiences at 1886 Cafe and Bakery during my recent visit to Austin. First, my friends and I visited for lunch. We could not get over how delicious our food and drinks were. Not only were they a feast for the eyes, the taste and texture combinations were perfection. We all agreed the Texas waffle was the best waffle we had ever had. The 1886 chocolate cake was Absolutely To Die For. For lunch we placed an order at the counter and were given a number, the food was brought to our table. We were instructed to give a few minutes then return to the counter to pick up our cocktails. We returned later in the week for Afternoon Tea. Again, a feast for the eyes and the taste buds. Three sets of tiered stands were brought out, one at a time, each served with a different tea. There was a printed menu listing all the teas and the treats thereupon, and our server explained everything and answered questions as well. A lovely experience, you do need to make a reservation. Built in 1886, the Driskill is stunning in appearance and a beautiful setting for both these visits. There is a tour, which we missed because it was at the same time as our tea reservation. However, a gentleman at the front desk was kind enough to give us a tour and we so appreciated learning the rich history and some of the stories of this hotel.

Yelp
This is a place that you order at the counter and wait for the food. It would suck if you order and have no table to sit and enjoy the food. The menu says 18% gratuity is automatically charged but the credit card machine was set at 20%. I didn't try to change it so I don't know if it can be changed. Anyway, we lucked out with seats and the food was good.

Yelp
What a quaint place. Have walked by here several times and finally popped in on a Sunday morning to grab a bite. Service was quick and friendly and the Matcha Latte was delicious as well as the Austin American breakfast. Loved the mix of potatoes with sweet potatoes added in. The ham was thick and cooked perfectly, while I don't know the type of bread it was tasty. The jam looked a bit peculiar as it's a brownish color and sorta an apple ish flavor. Only tried a bit. While I didn't get the cinnamon roll, you can see the photo that's a meal in itself or at least a two person appetizer. Perhaps next time?
google avatar

Celeste G.

Yelp
Based on the photos, I thought these two would be without a doubt, delicious. Both are flavorless. The chocolate croissant does not taste like chocolate but just flaky bread. The cinnamon roll tastes like butter and is also super flaky and lacks the elements to be a good cinnamon roll. For $22 for both, I was highly disappointed. Never again.

Yelp
This is just the best place to grab brunch on the weekend in a classic beautiful vintage hotel. The level of class oozes from every corner of this hotel but the cafe and bakery allows for a more casual comfort vibe. The Texas shaped waffle is a must try when visiting Texas and no better place to try it out than at 1886. If you're looking for a savoury item on the hearty side the croque madame is fantastically cheesy and delicious. Make sure to stop by and pay the friendly staff behind the bakery a visit as the sweets are something you don't want to miss.

Yelp
This is a really cute brunch spot inside the Driskill Hotel. They are open in the mornings until 2pm. Everything looks decadent and I would have ordered a pastry or two but they are big enough to share and my friend didn't want anything sweet. I ended up ordering a Bloody Mary which was excellent (note, the bacon strip is really spicy) The Driskill House Salad with Salmon and ended up ordering a cappuccino to go. The people working there were friendly and even the manager came to check on us. He was the one who told us about the tours inside The Driskill Hotel.

Yelp
The food was beautiful presented, but the tomato was a little off. It's very expensive, but beautiful place to get some breakfast. There is not table service

Yelp
I had a beautiful breakfast with my team! From the ceilings to the floors, the Driskill is so regal and majestic and that it extends right into 1886 Cafe! I see why there are so many stories of ghosts and hauntings, because this breakfast is to die for! They don't take reservations, and there were 9 people in my party but we were able to be seated immediately with enough space for us to all sit near! Our waitress was great with taken all of our orders and our food came out so quickly! I had the oatmeal which came with fruit toppings, brown sugar, raisins , an orange juice and hot tea with honey. I also ordered traditional eggs Benedict which came with country style potatoes. The eggs bene were cooked perfectly, the hollandaise sauce was rich and the potatoes paired so well! I literally cannot wait to go back and try some other breakfast options! We had a large van so there was really no where near for me to park, so consider ride sharing or walking if you are downtown.

Yelp
I was in desperate need for bacon for breakfast that hadn't appeared in the buffet for our company at the Driskill for two straight days. Having not been satisfied with my second day of breakfast buffet, and wanting an iced coffee as well, I made my way down to the first floor at the Driskill to where the 1886 Café & Bakery is located. I was blessed with a side order of four strips of bacon that brought me to a place of spiritual purity and strength, strength and spiritual purity. Their bacon was cooked to perfection that I partly enjoyed at one of their tables in their main dining area with green painted walls. I enjoyed the cold brew coffee I ordered additionally, bringing both that and my remaining bacon that I put in a pouch made from a couple of napkins up to Mezzanine to continue my company training sessions.

A. M. T.

Yelp
Brunch was wonderful! Eggs Benedict were cooked perfectly, but the Hollandaise sauce was a little to thick for me. Everyone in our party said their food was divine!

Yelp
Oh this place was fun! Stood in line for a while to place our order, I went and scoped out a table for 5 out in the hotel instead of inside the cafe which was loud and only had smaller tables open - beautiful setting, delightful drinks, huge delicious pasties, tasty waffle and egg white omelette, the bagel was nothing exceptional felt a bit stale, hard to get a bite without wrangling it lol though the toppings were high quality - wish I lived nearby, I could eat the cinnamon roll forever

Yelp
1886 Cafe is located inside the Driskill hotel. It can get quite busy on the weekend but they offer great breakfast and brunch items. The ordering process you go through a line inside. Once at the barista counter you will order your drinks and your food then later they will bring them out to you. The drinks and foods were really delicious. I got one of their speciality drink the crème bruele latter which was really delicious. I got their lady bird omelette which features egg whites, spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes, goat cheese, onions, with multigrain toast and potatoes. Food was really delicious and at a decent price. I was really happy with the service we got. This will definitely be a spot on our brunch list. With it being inside the Driskill you get beautiful decor to look at with a classic old time feel.

Yelp
My go-to spot whenever I am in Austin, especially during winter when you can dine in the Driskill portion and sit next to the giant Christmas tree. Looks and smells like Christmas. The food and service is also spot on. Get the Turkey Club or if you are in the mood for brunch, the pecan Texas waffle.

Yelp
Great spot whether staying at Driskill or just looking for a good breakfast or a quick cup of coffee. Stayed at Driskill and had a great finish with a tasty breakfast. This place is history! They do put 18% on the bill for tip right away. Not a fan but no worries, I usually top 20-25%. The almond croissants and cappuccino were very good Wife got the Bene all were very good. But.... The Bene needed more hollandaise and Brie. But tasted good. My fruit cup really needed somebody to pay attention to what they put in it, some chucks had rotten spots and well, could have been better. They had a good selection of pastries, and lighter fare. And the experience was good. The ambiance at 0630 was slow and friendly and chill.
google avatar

Geoffrey V.

Yelp
The service was great and the food was fantastic. I ordered a Latte and Texas Benedict which was ham and 2 egg on a croissant over potatoes with Hollandaise sauce and it was delicious. I wish I had been able to go back another day for a pasty because they looked delicious.

Fat Man Reviews K.

Yelp
The Fat Man's wife loves brunch. So, we found a neat little café around the corner from our hotel. 1886 Café and Bakery serves baked goods plus daytime American fare in a Victorian tearoom-style setting in the Driskill Hotel in Austin, Texas. My wife tried the Austin American Breakfast. This came with two eggs in any style (ordered scrambled), a choice of bacon, sausage, ham (bacon ordered), country potatoes, and multigrain toast. Her eggs were fluffy but lacked seasoning. The yellow and purple potatoes were seasoned well but could use a crunch from the grill, as they were exceptionally soft. The sweet potato, though, was lovely and cooked well. The bacon was thin but crunchy and had a good flavor. The toast had a good amount of butter, crunch, and chew. I had the Croque Madame made with shaved ham, gruyère cheese, sourdough bread, sunny-side egg, pepper jack mornay, crispy fingerling potatoes, and jalapeño chimichurri. The potatoes were cooked and seasoned perfectly, and the chimichurri was fresh and had a good heat level. The egg was overcooked, but it had a creaminess to it. The bread was lightly toasted and offered a good chew, while the ham was sliced thin with a nice saltiness. The cheese melted perfectly and gave a nice gooey texture to the bite. The pepper jack mornay was good but lacked a heat punch that the dish needed. I also tried Breakfast in a Cup with Jameson, orange Juice, butterscotch syrup, and spicy maple bacon. The bacon has an excellent spicy flavor; it was crunchy and good to chew, but it lacked sweetness. The orange juice was refreshing, and the butterscotch came through on a sweet note at the end. It had some Tajin on the rim. 1886 offers a good-sized menu of sandwiches, signature entrees, and brunch items. They also have a full bar. The Fat Man says that 1886 Café and Bakery is Fat Man Approved with 1 chin.

Yelp
Amanda and I went looking for a good breakfast spot. This location was given great reviews. The location is beautiful within the hotel, The Driskill. The hotel and restaurant are absolutely gorgeous inside and out. If you're looking for architecture, this place is perfect. Ordering is a little weird as you order from the bar as there is no waitstaff. You can see what we ordered in the pictures, Texas Migas Avocado Toast and Mimosas. Coffee was decaf iced latte with a pinch of lavender and a Americano. The food was delicious and the executive chef comes out with the food. Great touch. The only 2 items, this can set you back a bit, expensive. Over $85 for breakfast. The other small, very small, is no waitstaff to order. Would we come back? Yes although on a special occasion. I think this place is primarily for the hotel patrons.

Yelp
1/14/2024 1886 Cafe and Bakery 604 Brazos St Austin, TX 78701 This small cafe is located off the lobby in the Driskill hotel. There is also a street entrance. There was a spread of menus on the counter at the right of the order area. I ordered the Texas Shaped Pecan Waffle, charged my room then was given my table setup and a wooden spoon. On the back of the spoon is a Table # which the server uses to bring your order. My waffle was brought to me and it had an authentic Texas shape. It was light and fluffy, not a meal in itself. It sat on a plating pattern of berry jam (blueberry), topped with sliced banana, strawberry and assorted berries. The sparse Pecan bits were spread around Texas. The jam was a tasty and not to sweet replacement for syrup. It was a quick eat. A good place to get a fast breakfast. It's repeatable.
google avatar

Yelp
It was lunchtime and walked into 1886 Cafe & Bakery to find they were also serving brunch. I grabbed a menu off the wall and walked towards the ordering area. I selected the Texas Migas off the menu and then was provided with a wooden spoon with a number on it. The place was busy but was able to find a small table to sit at. You can also sit in the lobby too. The staff seemed to be a bit busy and the service was good. The migas was presented very beautifully and tasted very delicious. It had a large portion of eggs, salsa, and two flour tortillas. This cafe is truly very good and worthy of the comments I had read about them.

Yelp
1886 Cafe and Bakery is a fantastic spot for breakfast! I tried the Eggs Benedict, and it was absolutely delicious. The eggs were perfectly poached, the hollandaise sauce was rich and creamy, and the English muffin was just the right amount of crisp. The cozy atmosphere and attentive service added to the enjoyable dining experience. If you're looking for a great breakfast or brunch in a charming setting, 1886 Cafe and Bakery is the place to go. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Parisian feel. The food was really good and flavorful. The Paris Benedict was delicious . Eggs cooked perfectly and the bed of potatoes and Brie added a nice flavor and texture. The sweet potatoes were very sweet and fresh. The turkey BLT was loaded with Turkey. Everything was fresh. Side note - they add an automatic 18% gratuity and then don't ask for you to sign anything at checkout.
google avatar

Elaine C.

Yelp
Standard food and kind of pricy. Nothing over the top extra ordinary to write home to friends and family about. Service was kind of slow waiting for the food. Coffee you get at the counter right before you pay for your meal that gets delivered to you at your table if you dine in. Ambiance is very nice and grandeur but that's because it is a lobby cafe/restaurant of a hotel. Would I come back? Probably not.
google avatar

Keith R.

Yelp
HAVE AGAIN: seared salmon was outstanding, best meal I've had in Austin! 1886 chocolate cake absolutely delicious. So good. NOT HAVE AGAIN: The cinnamon roll was just ok. Not worth having again.
google avatar

Yelp
Nut allergy friendly - labeled (NF) - waffles and other items have cross contamination concerns. Trust the labels. Ignore the construction from 6th Street entrance - this is a fancy nice counter service restaurant with a pricey but substantial brunch offering! I went with a group and we had no issues getting a table in the lobby. We were even visited by the executive chef to ask how our meal was. You have to self serve your own water, but the ambiance of being in the Driskell was a unique experience that makes for a great date or hangout. Texas Migas: My meal! The tortilla strips really came out crispy with a nice half avocado sliced up. Only two pieces of flour tortilla were not enough (I think three would have been perfect) but the jalapeno, onion, radish, and eggs came together very well. Bagel & Lox: Served with some chive oil in the cream cheese and suggest to put together one half of the bagel at a time, or else it would end up massive. An offering that stands up to the test of time. Both styles of Egg Benedict: The Paris Texas style was more unique and took the cake. They were similar but the croissant really elevated a traditional breakfast. The prices are high with gratuity included, but the portions are pretty good.

Tiffany G.

Yelp
What a lovely afternoon tea. The service was delightful and the ambiance added to the overall experience. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is due to the quality of food. One ticket is $90. The food just did not match the price of the ticket. It was definitely on the more expensive side. Overall my wife, friend, and I had a glorious time and the tea was amazing!
google avatar

Stephanie W.

Yelp
This is a place you come for the vibe for sure. It's a little pricey for what is served but there is just a bit of an upscale flair on everything on the menu, as well as a Texas flare. The servers at the register and the table were very nice and helpful, no complaints there! The interior of the cafe is attached to the Driskill hotel itself which is old and beautiful. The food reflects that upscale Texas charm - I had the pecan/berry Texas waffle which is fluffy and delicious, with a sweet cream and fluffy butter they serve it with. My mom had eggs hollandaise which was also very good. We had Bellinis which were a bit strong but that's not a bad thing! She also got an almond croissant which was delicious. The plating is lovely! The bill came out to about $80 for two people with all this so it's nice crazy expensive but it's a lot more than a cheaper brunch you could get in a less upscale space. Nonetheless, I wanted to try it and I'm glad I came! Parking is a hassle, I actually parked on the other side of the bridge for free and had to walk all the way to the hotel (about 7-8 blocks) so that was a bit much. They validate for some unknown amount in a nearby garage but just know it can be a bit of a hassle/cost to park. I don't personally plan to come back because of these factors, but I'm certainly glad I tried it and would rec trying it to any brunch/nice cafe lover!

Yelp
Been here on multiple business lunches and it's a great spot located in the historical Driskoll hotel. The steak and eggs were phenomenal, though it is pricy as expected, or their omelettes or other classic breakfast items for something more reasonable and still delicious. They are an order at the coffee bar and seat your self establishment, which is great for a brunch style place. Never had a bad experience and it's in an awesome historical Austin location.
google avatar

Priscila M.

Yelp
This is inside the Driskill hotel. The seating is limited in the restaurant space, so you can sit outside and the chairs are more comfortable. You order at the counter, grab your drinks and find some seating space. I order the capuccino with almond milk and to my surprise they had 3 options of gluten free muffins. I ordered the chocolate one and asked them to warm it up. The muffin was delicious. The dough was light and fluffy to the point that would break easily. It had that Rick dark chocolate flavor and it wasn't too sweet. Perfect to go with some coffee. I also ordered the American breakfast and was surprised with their presentation. The colorful potatoes made it extra nice and were crunchy on the outside, but still soft on the inside side.
google avatar

Jay B.

Yelp
Food: my latte was really good. It wasn't watered down with milk and you could taste the espresso coming through. I loved the banana muffin. They warmed it up for me and it was really good. The coffee cake crumble on the top was delicious. Service: I enjoyed being able to order at the counter and have my order called out when I was ready, then choose a place to sit. The people at the counter were very nice. Ambiance: this cafe is in such a cool building. It's such a nice spot to enjoy a coffee Value: I took 1 star off because it cost me just under $14 for a muffin and a coffee. I felt this was pretty steep for a simple breakfast.
google avatar

Quinn H.

Yelp
Great spot for breakfast! We loved the pastries, coffee, and meal options. Plenty of gluten free choices too. The location has so much history and is absolutely gorgeous.
google avatar

Marissa K.

Yelp
While the food was good there are other things to discuss. You order at the counter then sit with a number. Our group had to be cognizant of the time so one person inquired how long the quiche usually takes. A lady with a ponytail gave a very smug response about how she doesn't know... there's no set time... it could've just been delivered much better. The other issue is they automatically add 18% gratuity. There is no sign that tells you this. They don't give you a receipt unless you ask. That's a poor practice.
google avatar

Bhagyashree B.

Yelp
Very cool historic restaurant, great for brunch with the usual options - eggs, sweet delicacies, avocado toast etc. I liked the butter croissant, it was light and fluffy although not as warm asI would have liked. French toast was interesting especially with the matcha cream but tooo sweet. The indoor seating was a bit cramped but you can also sit in the hotel area outside where there's plenty of room and it's a lot more airy.
google avatar

Emily K.

Yelp
Stopped in to hang out before we had to head to the airport. This place was super busy but the line moved pretty quick. The food was good and the manager was the best. He came by checking on multiple tables and one of our meals wasn't ideal and he took care of it right away. Overall, good experience.
google avatar

Carolyn A.

Yelp
I remember this restaurant when it was run by volunteers who were led by Sue Brandt McBee. I haven't been in years. Modern ordering system and very high quality food here. I enjoyed the Lady Bird omelette made with egg whites and spinach. The staff were attentive and helpful as well. I loved the chunky toast and the condiments were delicious.
google avatar

Shawnie K.

Yelp
One of our favorite breakfast spots in Austin is the 1886 Cafe & Bakery at The Driskill hotel. They make all of their baked goods in-house so you can see the bakers in action. The croissants and scones are scrumptious and the cinnamon rolls are enormous. We opted for a proper sit-down breakfast of a southwest omelette and bagels and lox.
google avatar

Sharona M.

Yelp
This was my absolute favorite breakfast in my trip to Austin. It is a order and sit down type of place. Luckily, we barely had to wait in line. We were also happy that they still serve breakfast food past 11. We went to Caroline at 10:45 and left dissapointed because they stopped serving breakfast. We were so happy that not many doors down we could get breakfast here. We ordered a Hippie Hollow and Croque Madame, both were absolutely delicious. Portions were great. We both loved the fingerling potatoes. A lot of places can't do these potatoes right!!!! They're either undercooked or cold. These were hot and delicious. I highly recommend both these especially the Hippie Hollow if you're a fan of goat cheese! The food presentation is aesthetic AF, see pics. They have an option for every taste bud. As a dessert, we got the classic chocolate cake. This was also fabulous. Prices are great. Employees are friendly and the restaurant was spotless with plenty of seating. Bathrooms were ultra clean. The atmosphere is giving Disneyland vibes. IYKYK.
google avatar

Joyce J.

Yelp
My first visit to Austin started in this beautiful cafe at the elegant historic Driskill Hotel. The place is quaint and casual but in a classy way. You order at the counter sit and wait for the food. We ordered the Hippie Hollow Omelet, the Paris Texas Benedict, and the Croque Madame. Everything was so delicious, flavorful, and freshly made. The portions are enough to satisfy the appetite and the prices are fair. The staff is very welcoming and pleasant. Highly recommend it if you are near downtown Austin.

Yelp
I really wanted to like 1886 Cafe & Bakery based on the reviews but there were so many things that were not good about it that it's hard to overlook it and just focus on the food. First, I hate parking in that area and paying for parking in a garage. Secondly, the line at brunch time is insane. You stand in line forever and then try to find a seat. We ended up sitting out in the lobby which wasn't ideal other than it was definitely a lot quieter out there. Heaven forbid you forget to order something and have to stand in that awful line all over again only to come back to find somebody took your chair and now you have the joy of finding another one to drag over to your table. Loved the historical vibe. I had an iced vanilla latte which was very good and the Croque Madame that was good but I've had better elsewhere.
google avatar

Madi M.

Yelp
Food and ambiance were nice, however I was not expected to be charged 18% gratuity automatically. It was not even party of 5 or more.

Pia C.

Yelp
It was delightful experience at Old Vibe Bakery 1886 Cafe Bakery! Their Benedict dish is a must-try - the eggs were poached to perfection, the hollandaise sauce was rich and tangy, and the Canadian bacon was crispy and savory. I also tried their Croque Madam. While it was a solid dish, it didn't quite live up to my expectations. The ham and cheese were plentiful, but the bread was a bit too dense and the béchamel sauce could have used a bit more flavor. The fried egg on top was a nice touch, but overall, it felt like a good, not great, version of this classic dish. The atmosphere was unique with vintage vibe that can be added to my overall experience.
google avatar

Ted C.

Yelp
Beautiful interior of original dark wood and classic 1800's style decor, but updated appropriately. Generally clean as well. Delicious food too. Staff was average, just business, little emotion, but efficient. A bit pricey for what we ordered however, especially since customers have to order at the front counter. Yikes!
google avatar

Debra B.

Yelp
We ordered the Paris eggs Benedict. It was so delicious, set in the beautiful Driskill hotel. You place your order have a seat and they bring it to you. A bit pricey but paying for the atmosphere.

Hanna P.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious breakfast in a very beautiful space! Would highly recommend the Paris Benedict and the steak and eggs.

Yelp
This place is such a vibe!! If you're looking for a more than causal brunch/breakfast come to this cafe located inside the Driscoll hotel. Unfortunately they do not take reservations or have a phone so you kinda just have to pop up. The concept is great! You order at the counter and pay before you dine, then you find seats (I suggest finding seats prior to ordering) Lots of seating inside, Service was excellent! Our food came out so quickly and it was delicious-definitely worth every penny. The perk is that after you're done you don't need to wait for the bill and such! I will definitely be back!

Yelp
They definitely get stars for being opened this early in the morning. And of course, they get stars for having some of the coolest ambiance on the block. The décor is pleasant. It's a nice open space with really tall ceilings and arched windows complimented with copper bar and ceiling as well as pillars. And apparently, they don't skimp on the size of their pastries. As you can see from my photos , the cinnamon bun and croissant are large and in charge! The menu is extensive and filled with all the things you really want to eat, and it had a wide selection of fruits, pastries, and traditional breakfasts , as well as lighter fares like yogurt and granola. There's a nice sounding pleasant music coming through the speakers. But I admit it's a tiny bit loud early in the morning, and it's echoing through the mostly vacant dining room. It appears to be mostly self-serve in some sense. They do bring your food out to your table when it's ready, though. They are losing a star for the barista spilling coconut milk all over my shirt sleeve and having a very nonchalant attitude about it. They're also losing a star because in my husband's fruitbowl, the strawberries had some kind of strange looking center that they didn't cut out and was very apparent. In addition to that, his bacon was pretty overdone, borderline burnt, And the hollandaise on my eggs benedict was underwhelming for me in both flavor and quantity, Although I'm not sure I would have wanted more of something that was less flavorful, so it's kind of a catch twenty-two there. Also, the brie was seemingly skipped on as well, which is what I was looking for in particular with this benny. I was very happy that the potatoes on my plate were not just plain potatoes but purple Okinawan potatoes and orange sweet potatoes as well. I'm giving three stars because even though overall, this place is pretty epic and the decor is great, and it looks like it has everything you want, they kind of drop the ball on just a few little details that would have made the experience a much better.

Yelp
Good food with self service ordering. Coffee is decent. Atmosphere is excellent. No outdoor seating, but dining room is not excessively noisy.

Yelp
The place had one of the best chocolate croissants I have ever had. I love that they use real utensils, not plastics and fabric napkins. I wish the tea came in a china or mug. The place was beautiful and brought you back to the 1886 era. Plenty of seating indoors and some outdoors. Recommend visit when you are in town! I will certainly be back!

Yelp
Walking around downtown Austin, we stumbled upon this cafe/bakery. We ordered at the counter and found there were no tables available and went out into the lobby area to find some seating. The pastries look delicious and HUGE. We got a butter crossaint, pumpkin coffee cake, kids texas waffle and Omlette. The chairs in the lounge are super comfortable. We had a wooden spoon with a number and our server found us right away! I also got a chai latte with almond milk. They are so fast with the orders by the time I made my way to the cashier to put in our food order and pay, my latte was ready at the counter. The food is delicious, totally recommend this place for locals and visitors alike. The food is comforting and well made. Checkout the giant oatmeal cookie! We were surprised to find out later that the lounge was part of a haunted hotel?! Who knew!

Yelp
YUM! First off, I'll start with how cute the space is. This area is located inside the beautiful Driskill hotel. We weren't staying there, but we HAD to go in to see this beauty. It's set up like a cafe where you order at the counter and select a seat. Friendly staff from the register to our food runner. We enjoyed breakfast there and it didn't disappoint. A sun waffle with berries, delicious coffee (we bought some hole beans to bring home). Not pictures was an egg white omelet with tasty potatoes.
