18 Restaurants Worth a Drive Out of Nashville | Eater Nashville

"This dining destination in Leiper’s Fork (the adorable unincorporated rural village in Williamson County) is a BYOB establishment oozing with old-school vibes, Southern charm, and a standout menu from chef Dylan Morrison. Named after the year the house it occupies was built, Morrison honors time-old culinary traditions with highlight dishes like a spicy-whipped pimento cheese, Waldorf salad, a Bear Creek Farms burger, and fig ravioli with blue cheese fonduta." - Delia Jo Ramsey

This restaurant was not one of our favorites in the area. With downtown being so close and other restaurants popping up, this facility will have competition. The food was better than average but not amazing. The worst part was how long it took to get our food. We arrived at 5 pm and the restaurant was a little over half full. It took about 45 minutes before our meal arrived. It just felt longer than it needed. Our waitress was very nice though.

We ate lunch here. The food was good, but the service was slow and it was a little noisy. I had the fried green tomato BLT and my husband had the brisket sandwich. The BLT came with an interesting mushroom aioli sauce. They both came with more fries that we could possibly eat. We came here today for lunch. My friend had the burger which she said was delicious. I had the Korean fried chicken sandwich that came with a spicy Korean sauce and a white sauce. The sauces were amazing, and although the chicken was tasty, it was tough. I would have probably sent it back, but our server didn’t appear again until we were ready to pay.

Google
This has been my 1st choice for lunch since the day it opened. They have the best burger in the area, fresh not frozen, which is hard in most restaurants these days. Sunday brunch is outstanding. I just read they are closing after 15 years. I have enjoyed dining alone and with groups. Not sure where my go to place will be now, but I wish the well. I for one will miss this place

Google
Went here for my boyfriends and I’s dating anniversary. The place is classy and has a very intimate atmosphere. All of the staff were polite and even wished us a happy anniversary on our way out. I had the Elderberry martini as my drink which was phenomenal. We started with fried green tomatoes and for my meal I got the Salmon. If you like fried green tomatoes, you HAVE to get these. These were amazing!!

Google
A true gem in Huntsville. An amazing dining experience every time. Great atmosphere, quiet, not stuffy. Service is excellent. Prices are very reasonable. Great selection of cocktails, wine, and beer. Menu is not overly extensive but focuses on quality over quantity of dishes. Portions are very generous. This restaurant has thrived for many years and it is obvious why it has done so well. Easily top 5 on my list of places to go in the Huntsville area for a guaranteed fantastic meal. If you haven't tried it, you've been missing out!

Google
A truly hidden gem in the Huntsville area. We visit for special occasions and have always been impressed with the experience. The staff are super friendly, attentive, and are open to sharing their recommendations for what to order. The food is amazingly tasty. Seriously, it’s scrumptious. You will leave stuffed and satisfied. Be sure to make reservations by calling the restaurant or booking online in advance, it’s a popular place after all. The food is yummy!

Google
Excellent service with a cozy atmosphere. The beef tenderloin was tender enough to cut with a fork, juicy perfectly cooked, and burst with flavor. I was skeptical of the panko fried green maters (generally, I don't like panko batter), but this chef pulled it off and changed my mind. The onion jam was an amazing addition to the maters and the cheese board. Plenty of draft beer, wine options, and a full bar is available.

Google
There's a hole in my heart imagining this coming winter without a cozy meal in this restaurant. I always enjoyed eating here and the staff were always super kind. Thanks for the memories! I will severely miss having an entire french press to myself for breakfast and that espresso brisket </3 I hope you all go on to do something new and exciting in the community.

Yelp
Overall, a lot of misses here. Don't order an omelet or anything with eggs. They are those carton eggs and the consistency tastes so fake. The ham omelet was unpleasant. Gravy was oozing out if it and detracted from the overall taste. The chicken fried chicken plate wasn't bad at all. I like that the chicken was lightly seasoned since the gravy is very salt heavy. Potatoes were crisp. Their health rating is an 85. Look around and you can tell why. Biscuit 5 stars! Delicious!

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place for several years, but kept forgetting about it. It's located in Five Points. Parking can be a little dangerous because of traffic flow. I did make a reservation just in case they were busy. They were fairly busy for a Monday. Their cocktail menu was very unique. The food menu I believe changes. Prices were a little high in my opinion. I ordered the short rib entree. I don't know if they forgot a sauce but the meat was bland. It was super tender and everything else was good. I ordered the pumpkin martini, which was delicious! My friends got the meatball pasta, which seemed like the way to go. My entree was underwhelming.

Yelp
The catfish at lunch is excellent. Try the plate with grits and green beans. A great selection of wine and beer.

Yelp
1892 is in a unique part of town. The food was very solid all around. Green tomatoes were good as always. Crème brûlée was great too. Not much to complain about except maybe the high prices. But when you go to a place like this you probably aren't worried about saving money. Solid food and service.

Yelp
This is our go to spot in Huntsville. The food is always consistent and good. Would recommend the Brie and Apple salad, shrimp and grits and tenderloin!

Yelp
Such welcoming and friendly staff. Feels like we are home when we get a warm welcome each visit. Fresh local foods highlighted. Always fun and delicious. I'm showing a photo of my lobster ravioli which is the best in town!

Yelp
My family took me here for a Sunday brunch for my birthday. It was our first visit, but definitely will not be our last. Service was great and food was wonderful! We had reservations for our meal and that is highly recommended for the brunch. Looking forward to our next visit!

Yelp
Called 15 minutes before a reservation for 8 people and cancelled. Terrible customer service.

Yelp
Mussels appetizer and trout entree were excellent! Generous portions! Ambiance good. Busy in a Wednesday night! Server was new, but professional!

Yelp
This cozy little spot is wonderful! I had the beef tenderloin entree and it was cooked perfectly. The crispy potatoes on the side and the sauce were also delicious. My friend had the salmon and she said it was also delicious. We enjoyed the bread and they had a great wine selection. Service was also good even though we came close to closing time. I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
1892 serves fresh farm to table food. I like that. Great place for groups. Server, Kailey was exceptional in juggling multiple orders, and keeping everything going, all while maintaining a friendly demeanor and a nice smile. My dining companions raved about the tenderloin steak. The pork ragu was tender and tasty. The freshly baked rolls are melt in your mouth good. 1892 is located in what appears to be a mostly residential neighborhood.  The inside is cozy and quiet. I liked that.    1892 remains committed to serving fresh food, from local farmers to nurture and support the greater Huntsville community.  Good wine selection by the glass and/or bottle.    Well done!

Allan M.

Yelp
Food was outstanding. Grilled swordfish with orange sauce. Pair with wilted spinach and fingerlings potatoes. Service was great too.

Yelp
Nice, homey ambiance with dark wooden tables and bar. The staff was friendly and we were seated on time for our reservation. One of our guests was disappointed a few items listed on their online menu were not available. We tried the fried green tomatoes and shrimp and grits appetizers which were both crispy and delicious! We ordered the pasta for an entree and tried the caesar salad which were both good, but not outstanding. We noticed most tables had bread and thought some would be brought over, which was not offered. We flagged down a staff member asked if bread service was available and he smiled and quickly brought over a basket, which was well worth the wait! The seafood options all looked delicious, so may go back and try lunch soon.

Yelp
I visited here for lunch yesterday to celebrate my coworker's birthday. This was her choice, and I wasn't mad about it! I had never visited before and was glad to have an excuse to give it a try. 1892 fills a kind of interesting niche in Huntsville. It's definitely nicer/fancier and more expensive than more family-style restaurants like close by Melt or Jack Brown's in downtown Huntsville, but it's not as fancy as super upscale places like the Bottle or Purveyor. The menu focuses on farm to table meals and has a fairly large amount of creative options for vegetarians and vegans. The interior of the restaurant was larger than I thought it would be. There are two large main rooms and a nice bar. Some of the walls have some chips/scuff marks so the place is showing its age a bit, but the atmosphere was still warm and comfortable. I have heard great things about their burger for YEARS, so I decided I'd try that. Two of my coworkers split the burger and fries and each got side Caesar salads, and my final coworker ordered the chicken pot pie. I asked for a sweet tea to drink, which was a mistake; I was offered my choice of simple syrup or sweetener to mix in myself. I personally really only think sweet tea is good when the sweetener is added while the tea is brewing, so that was kind of a disappointment. That aside, though, I wasn't mislead on the burger at all. It was really good! Since it's made with house ground beef, you can choose the degree you want it cooked; I opted for medium well. The medium thickness patty was super, super juicy and had a great beefy flavor. The bun stood up remarkably well to the juiciness of the patty, the melted cheese, AND the balsamic aioli I smeared over every square inch, which was impressive! It had nice crispy outer edges and a soft pillowy center. The aioli was deliciously creamy with a faint, pleasant sourness. Really great burger! The fries were pretty good, but not quite as impressive; ideally, I think I'd have liked them a bit saltier, but they were cooked nicely and paired well with my meal. I'd happily eat them again. Coworkers' burger wasn't quite cooked to their liking (a little less done that they asked for), but they were happy overall. The salads looked fresh and delicious. The person who got the pot pie said the filling was delicious, though the crust on top was almost more like a cracker and she wished there had been more of it. Our server was very nice and did his best. They stayed very on top of refills and got our checks out quickly when we asked. However, I think they only had maybe 2 servers for the whole restaurant and they were about half-full. The kitchen must've been slow or understaffed, too, because it took a pretty long time for our food to come out. All told, I think lunch took almost an hour and a half. We hadn't intended to go that long, though it wasn't a huge deal necessarily. Just something to keep in mind if you're looking to go in the near future. All told, I'd definitely be down to revisit. I'd grab a burger again, easily, and I've also been told their brunch rules! Would love to try that. If you're looking for a middle-range, comfortable spot for a low key date night or celebration, this is a good option to consider, in my opinion.

Yelp
Last time I was there the food was delicious as were the drinks. They also have a nice selection of vegan options, much more than other similar restaurants in our area.

Yelp
This was our first time here and we were fortunate to come by for Easter brunch! It was amazing! Great bartender, attentive server, and the food was perfect! I am a fairly picky eater and typically leave the potatoes untouched. Not these! Fluffy eggs, crisp bacon, and even mimosa! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Great service (I recommend making a reservation on weekdays). My salmon was cooked perfectly. Hubby enjoyed his steak too!

Yelp
Enjoying a lunch featuring perhaps the best chicken sandwich and Pot de Creme dessert I have ever had, I enthusiastically rate 1892 as my new favorite restaurant. The quality of the food both in presentation and taste exceeded all my expectations. The draft beer was excellent and paired very well with the food. The service began at the door with Miranda who welcomed us with a warm smile and a pleasant personality. She gave us total attention to detail and a first rate knowledge of the menu. We never lacked for anything to make our dining experience a rare event where Miranda's customer relations skills were concerned. She was an excellent waitress, an accomplished bartender and a very creative keg wrangler when the taps decided to dispense foam instead of beer, The ambience was both evocative and transporting. I felt truly that I had entered a wondrous atmosphere and comfortable and inviting tavern and restaurant. The gleaming wood and glass interior, the table settings, and other decor choices were more than I could have hoped for. I plan to return often for both lunch and dinner at my earliest opportunity. True to my word to Miranda I have written a song in honor of the occasion entitled, "Looking for Lunch in All the Right Places." March 11, 2024

Yelp
The food was excellent as in previous visits, I had the brisket and it was super tender and very flavorful.... Michael who was our server was flawless. This place is very comfortable for what ever your occasion. So 1st date, grads or anniversary...

Yelp
This is my wife's favorite place in town and my favorite place for a steak. Visits teeter between 4 and 5 stars, but never lower. Visit last week was a 5. Sister-in-law was in town. A 70-ish, conservative mid-midwesterner, thrilled with spaghetti and meatballs and grilled chicken. I suggested Blue Plate (love that place, too), but she and my wife gave me a cross look and informed me that 1892 was where I was driving them to. Yah, well, it was our anniversary. Blue Plate is good, but ... 1892. Servers were diligent about their face masks and didn't hang close - good social distancing. Thanks, all y'all! Sis-in-law paid for a bottle of wine. Um, I don't follow wine so much. More a beer guy. So we asked the waiter for a recommendation. Timothy's eyes lit up and he enthusiastically recommended a blended red to go with our expected orders. It was outstanding. Rolls weren't as good as usual, and no sweet honey-butter. We were sad about that, but that's not why we come. I suspect that when life gets more normal-er and they can get enough help consistently, the very good bread will return. No ding on stars for that. This time. Sis-in-law got the salmon. 1892 knows salmon. It was great, as always. Get that. Wife got the special, a thick pork chop (in Iowa, we called these tall pieces o' pig Iowa chops) surrounded intimately by bacon with faro and green beans. It was very good, though the pork was a scosh overdone. I did the brisket pasta. Believe I won, even over the salmon. Very, very nicely done beef with a beautifully aggressive tomato sauce that marched with the brisket full-on. No prisoners, just lots and lots of flavor, with the fusilli pasta rolling along to make sure you got a sufficient mouthful of sauce with your meat in every bite. And superb left over, to boot. Get that. The women loved the heck out of their chocolate torte. Not my favorite, so I got the creme brulee. M, not their best effort. But usually it is. I'll get it again without hesitation. Service was excellent - friendly and attentive yet not the least annoying. The store is always very clean and very, very attractive. Best part: I think the price/ quality value was and always is just astounding. We just had a great time. Go there.

Yelp
Every time I've been here, about four times, I've really wanted to like it more than I actually liked it. The food is standard and the service is always just OK. It's pretty but I'm not sure that makes up for the food or the service
google avatar

Yelp
This place is adorable. If you're there during prime time (particularly brunch, we've found) prepare for a wait but it's a wait probably worth undertaking. It's definitely a local haunt in Five Points, but it's worth a drive. Service is on point, and the food I've had (burger, eggs benedict, chicken breast, etc.) is reliably tasty. They're not going to win any innovation awards, but they execute well and everything is well seasoned and properly prepared. (Let's be real, I'll take a properly prepared burger over a haphazard execution of a deconstructed sandwich any day.) Bonus points for their love of using local ingredients. I'd subtract a star for the fact that every time I'm there there's a party of 12 and they're loud, but that's not the restaurant's fault.
google avatar

James B.

Yelp
Good food with high quality ingredients. Great cocktails. We were in the bar area. Tables were a reasonable distance apart and not noisy. Service was solid despite also managing a large party at the same time.

Janet B.

Yelp
My friend and I ate lunch there last week and we were very disappointed. The chicken pot pie lacked taste, and the fried catfish was not cooked well. Will think twice about going back.

Yelp
Excellent service with a cozy atmosphere. The beef tenderloin was tender enough to cut with a fork, juicy perfectly cooked, and burst with flavor. I was skeptical of the panko fried green maters (generally, I don't like panko batter), but this chef pulled it off and changed my mind. The onion jam was an amazing addition to the maters and the cheese board. Plenty of draft beer, wine options, and a full bar is available. Cheese Plate Fried Green Tomatoes is definitely recommended! Also there are plenty of parking spaces. Also there is a free parking available.

Yelp
While visiting friends in Huntsville, we made reservations here and ate for the first time. I had never heard of this restaurant and in the end I was glad we found it. I got the chicken breast and my wife got the roast plus brie and apple salad. a beer and an iced tea, finished with a torte our bill was about $38 each before tip. The food was pretty good. Very nice atmosphere. Our server was attentive and built good rapport. Would we come again? Yes. Is it a good value? I think so for the type of restaurant it is. Very nice.

Delores S.

Yelp
The food was excellent. The drinks and ambience are nice. The service is great. This is the type of restaurant I love to dine with friends.

Yelp
We really enjoyed this place. Nice decor, excellent food and Miranda, the best server we have had in ages!

Yelp
Great date night! We had such a good time and great food! Loved the wine list and drink menu... lots of options. The only bad thing I can say is that we sat at a table for two by the front door and every time the door opened you got a cool breeze! Brrrrrr!! Next time I know to ask for a better table. I love that they have so many vegetarian options!!! I had the squash plate and it was amazing! My husband had the fish special and loved it! We both had dessert and they were out of this world!!!! Definitely save room for dessert!! Can't wait to go back!!
google avatar

Tim K.

Yelp
Never a bad meal here! Chicken confit was amazing and a meal to remember! Vegetarian dinner menu is also incredible.

Robin B.

Yelp
I was in town for a visit with a dear friend and we chose here to meet have dinner and a drink to catch up. All was fine and our waitress was lovely but after we ate and continued to chat, a man (I assume he was the manager) came to our table and informed us rather rudely that they only allow an hour 45 minutes for each table. We were not told this at the point of being seated nor any other time. We were deciding whether to order something else or leave when he approached our table and asked us to leave! This manager embarrassed us and so obviously he made our minds up right there! The food was just ok at $23 each and after spending over $100 for drinks and entrees I would think you'd be treated nicer. There was no excuse to be so rude! Needless to say we will not be going back and will be sharing this experience with friends and family. If you go be sure to ask ahead what their time limit on the tables is that night. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is the young lady who served us was very nice.

Yelp
We LOVE this place and go for brunch multiple times a month! The mimosas and waffles are super good. My husband order the fantastically delicious chicken and I always help myself to his‍

Yelp
We have only been here for brunch, but it has never failed to please. Excellent food and reliable service.

Yelp
We went on a whim - living in 5 points we drive by all the time. We had the cheese platter to start- excellent selection and flavor of local cheeses. The onion jam was a amazing. The fresh rolls and butter were extremely tasty and I could eat just those anytime. We both ordered salmon and it was beautifully plated. The fish was cooked to perfection and the sides were an excellent pairing. We tried both dessert offerings- creme brûlée and dark chocolate mousse with fresh whipped cream. Absolutely decadent. Our waiter was attentive without being cloying and gave exceptional service. It was a great meal and we will definitely be back!

Jade S.

Yelp
Atmosphere is nice enough. Seems like it should be fancy. The service was so rude and awful, though. I would never come back. The salad was literally just lettuce. My friend had a chicken breast that was disgustingly undercooked. Or glasses were dirty.
google avatar

Kelly H.

Yelp
We had a very nice dinner here near our hotel. We were looking for a local trendy dinner joint and came across 1892 East. We sat at the bar, ordered a glass of wine, a salad and some chicken and broccoli. We both said we'd visit againas this is as close to a home cooked meal you'll get while on travel. The chivken was so soft that you hardly had to chew! The broccoli was steamed perfectly. Well done 1892 East!! See you soon!

Yelp
My dinning companion and I have been wanting to try 1892 for sometime. So with Sunday being a rainy morning, we decided to try them for Brunch... When we arrived the place was already packed at 11:00 a.m. A good sign, we were seated quickly despite being told it would be a 30 min wait... Another good sign.... I also enjoyed getting a complimentary Mimosa with my meal.... But alas , the whole reason that we went was disappointing. I had the shrimp and grits and my dinning companion had the Chicken Fried Chicken Plate. I was very disappointed in my selection. The grits had zero seasoning, the shrimp while cooked correctly had the tails left on and I had to use my hands to extract the shrimp and pull the tails off... I found that very unusual since I have had Shrimp and Grits from one end of the country to the next.. First time for everything and the sauce was bland... My dinning companion commented that restaurants with Brunch feel obligated to offer shrimp and grits since people expect them.. Regardless of the qaulity.... And I think I must agree with her assessment. The Chicken Fried Chicken Plate was good. I tasted the chicken and it was cooked correctly, but again lacked much seasoning... The service and staff was excellent I must say... I will be back, I would like to try their other offerings, but I will not be ordering Shrimp and Grits.

Yelp
I hate to leave a less than 5-star review since I live in the neighborhood and wish nothing but the best for 1892 East. My wife and I ate there on New Year's Eve. We had a reservation, were seated quickly and our server greeted us within a few minutes. She was sweet, courteous and professional. My first complaint is that we were seated in the room without windows. I've been to 1892 several times and always get seated here. The front room is pretty but this back room lacks atmosphere. It needs something like dividers, multilevel floors or ceiling or reshaping of some kind. It's just square and uninteresting however well-furnished. We ordered the Brie and Apple salad as an appetizer. It came out very quickly, 5-stars for the service and was delicious. The Brie came in a wedge but I would have preferred it served sliced-up to more easily mix in the salad. I was not pleased with my entrée. I ordered the chicken pasta and was disappointed. I don't know what I was expecting but the gouda and butternut squash sauce over rotini was more like mac-n-cheese soup. The chicken and spinach were good but very few tomatoes. When mixed together, it all became lost the "soup". I guess I was hoping for a more adult sauce. On the other hand, my wife ordered the trout which came out perfectly cooked and was incredibly delicious. Potatoes were wonderful too. The only minor complaint is the broccolini was a bit woody and the stems were not edible. So, 4-stars for stellar service, fresh draft beer (at a good price) and the best trout I've tasted despite my disappointing meal. We'll be back but I won't order the chicken pasta again. Maybe we'll get lucky and sit in the front room!

Yelp
Best waffle ever. Love that a mimosa comes with your brunch. A little wait but got right in. Would definitely come here again when in the area after a Space Camp dropoff.

Yelp
This place is always amazing!! We had some friends in town and wanted to take them out for a special dinner. We selected this place and order and lots of different things from the menu. We sampled each others and everyone enjoyed their dish. Drinks were spectacular and we even stayed for a delicious dessert.

Yelp
Very Good food. Friendly & helpful front of house & wait staff. Decor is nice also but nothing special.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem in Huntsville, AL! Absolutely delicious! Timothy and Jordan are excellent bartenders. They prepare the best salmon I have ever eaten. They have a great variety of vegetables prepared superbly. I just had the pork chop with Brussels and acorn squash. Wonderful! I have eaten all over Madison County and haven't found anything that comes close to this!

Yelp
The food & service were outstanding. We had a reservation and the seating was prompt. Fried green tomatoes was our appetizer and we had the trout & salmon respectively. Good ambiance. Good food. Good folks.

Yelp
Summary: Fantastic service, nice ambiance, and solid food. Prices are in the $20+ range for entrees. Apple and brie salad, mashed potatoes, and other veggies are excellent. Good vegan/vegetarian options, and lots of beer/wine/liquor options. We went here for the first time with my wife and her family, totaling to six adults (gratuity included for parties of six or more) on a Friday evening at around 7:30pm with reservations. It took about 15 minutes for our table to open up and be ready, so we sat near the front and enjoyed the holiday decorations and woodsy/homey feel inside. Soon we were escorted to our table and sat down. Our server Timothy introduced himself and took our drink orders, answered a couple of questions about the menu, then left us to figure out what we'd be getting for food. He came back a few minutes later and dropped of the beverages, then took down the remainder of our orders. Here are the items that we ordered: Potato and cheddar soup - A little grainy, but very tasty and toasty. Apple and brie salad - Very tasty with fresh spinach, apple slices, a large wedge of brie, and walnuts. Dressing works well with all the ingredients. Brisket with espresso glaze, mashed potatoes, and broccolini - The brisket was very tender, but the espresso glaze was almost sharp with the bitterness of the coffee flavor. A little overwhelming. The mashed potatoes were very good and finely whipped, and the broccolini had an excellent firm texture. Shrimp and grits appetizer - The prep for this was actually dipping four shrimp in grits batter and frying them with a side of cocktail sauce for dipping. Unfortunately, we were expecting something more standard and it didn't live up to the clever preparation. Creme brulee - A classic dessert well prepared with a nice layer of charred sugar on top and a cool custard underneath (served with slices of fruit). Throughout the meal we were well tended to by Timothy and other servers as they brought the food out and checked in on us. While some of the good was not amazing, it was still a pleasant meal and we enjoyed the intimate, warm feeling of being inside on a cold winter day.

Yelp
Nice and cozy restaurant with options for vegetarians. Service was great. I left my bag and staff had it ready for pickup after closing. Thanks!

Yelp
I have lived in the Five Points area for around 4 years and I drive by this place every day on the way to work but had never gone to 1892 to eat! Went yesterday for the first time just for lunch and it was great! Service was great too! Just got the burger since it was lunch time but I want to come back soon for the dinner menu!

Yelp
This is my third day on a road trip with my son... we found a great place to eat. We don't eat meat or dairy so we weren't sure what we would find for options... Well, we actually found a restaurant, a really great restaurant, that serves the Beyond Burger! And has a great quality beet selection The waiter, (Dan), was really great, even asked if I was a vegan, when I said "yes" he said "oh I won't have the kitchen put butter on the bun." ! THAT'S KNOWING your audience! #loveoptions #makingadifference

Yelp
Love the local flavor, and they do a killer brunch. Always great service, too. We have had a few anniversary dinners there...
