Ann Arbor’s Best Coffee Shops - Eater Detroit

"As the only independently owned coffee shop on Ann Arbor’s west side, 19 Drips is quickly becoming a favorite for those in the area looking for a place to relax with a cup of joe or get some work done.  The beans here are roasted in the lighter style typical to the owners’ Yemeni roots." - John Reyes

Excellent service and coffee! My husband and I stopped in for a coffee date, and the service was remarkable. Everyone was so nice! The Lavender Latte was the best I've ever had, especially on this side of town. Highly recommended and we will be returning.

Great coffee and great ambience. They have a nice selection of drinks and pastries. These are also easily the coolest to go cups I have ever seen.

I want to give a huge thank you to Aladdin for going above and beyond with outstanding customer service. I had lost my badge while visiting the café and called the next day to ask about it. Not only did Aladdin follow up with a text, but he also sent a photo to confirm it was the correct badge — such a thoughtful and professional gesture! Aside from the excellent service, this coffee shop serves amazing coffee and pastries. A special shoutout to Nusaba, who also took great care of my order. Both Aladdin and Nusaba clearly know what they’re doing — they’re friendly, attentive, and genuinely care about the customer experience. You’ve got to try their Coffee and pastries — delicious and affordable! I don’t usually write reviews, but this café — and the incredible people who work there — truly deserve recognition. Highly recommend!

Rawaq Coffee is a fantastic Yemeni cafe on the outskirts of Ann Arbor. Besides the excellent coffee, they offer several delicious signature dishes of classic food from Yemen. If you have never tried Yemeni food (I had the Muttabaq), it is well worth a special visit for lunch!

Cold brew was amazing. Such a rich good flavor. Everything else smelled perfect as well. I also got a chocolate croissant which tasted just as good as it looked. Can’t wait to visit again and try the many offerings of this gem of a coffee house!

Lots of seating and patio chairs available!! I bought a chai and it was pleasant. Food options available unlike other yemini cafes. very close to the expressway so that's a plus for travellers !

Get the cinnamon roll- it has cinnamon icing on the inside! Also, the to-go lids are fancy- nice and sturdy.

I’ve driven by a bunch of times but finally decided to stop by and try this place out! I was so happy that I did! The chai was delicious and tasted like a warm hug. I loved that they serve it in a cute glass with a big thermos to keep refilling! The breakfast was amazing! I decided to try something I’ve never had before and am so glad I did. The pastry was also delicious! Super filling breakfast for a great price!

Yelp
A cute Yemeni coffee shop located on a corner off of Jackson on the west side of Ann Arbor. They offer some delicious Yemeni pastries, like honeycomb bread, which is my favorite, and delicious Yemeni tea, which is my personal preference over coffee. The interior space of 19 Drips is pretty large, so it can hold a lot of different parties and is a great place for coworking. There is wifi available to all paying customers, so my friend and I worked from here for an hour or two without any issues except for one point where the internet cut out for a couple minutes, which wasn't a big deal. The bathroom area is a bit of a contrast to how open and clean the cafe space is. They are dark and feel a bit jarring in how much dirtier they are compared to the open areas. Ultimately wasn't anything too terrible that I couldn't use the bathroom, but it was a big enough difference for me to make a note of it. All in all, a great option for working from a coffee shop and just trying out a more unique coffee shop than your standard run-of-the-mill ones that you can find all over Ann Arbor. Plus, this has the added benefit of being further from campus, so the crowd here is a lot less on the student-front and more locals/young working adults. It was a good vibe!

Yelp
I popped in here briefly to grab a snack to go. My husband and I had just finished lunch and I wanted something sweet to top myself off. Other reviews had mentioned gluten-free options, so I was eager to check the place out. The w ployer helping me was knowledgeable about their gluten-free selection, and I ended up choosing a cherry oat bar. It was delicious and filling! I'll look forward to returning soon for a longer visit and to try something new!

Yelp
Nice option for Yemeni coffee, tea, pastries, and food items (including full meals!) on the West Side! Super conveniently located right off 94. 5 star staff - everyone I interacted with there was super nice. I wasn't sure what to get (also had a little difficulty reading the small text on the screen menu - a menu on the checkout counter could be helpful!) so I asked for a recommendation that was decaf. They told me they could make all their coffee drinks decaf! Forgot to ask if they had non-dairy milk options, as that's usually my preference - that's on me. They have free WiFi and outlets, which made this cafe nice for a couple hours of work this afternoon. (WiFi did cut out briefly, but came back quickly.) It's not large, but never was more full than capacity. There was a mix of people there on their laptops and just chatting and catching up with friends over food and beverages. Self serve water station as well, which was nice. Easy parking on site. I was too full today to try food while I was there, but want to come back to try their pastries! Particularly the honeycomb bread :).

Yelp
This is a cute little coffee shop with tasty food. Their chicken especially is well seasoned. Their coffee is high quality and they spend time making it correctly. The staff are kind and helpful. Great spot to get work done and there's free onsite parking.

Yelp
Came here for lunch and am not a big coffee person so I can only speak for the food. We were excited to try Yemeni food, some dishes for the first time. The staff at the counter insisted on hummus and I'm glad they did because it is incredible. We also got labneh, also good, tastes like a cream cheese spread (it's yogurt!). The generous olive oil on both dips definitely makes them very enjoyable. The mutabbaq was thin and crispy, and fresh lime definitely improved the flavor. We were a bit confused by the shakshuka because it was basically an egg scramble and not a tomatoey stew kind of thing like we expected. We enjoyed it, though. This amount of food (it was a lot of pita) left two of us very full. Looking forward to coming again for drinks and trying some of their rice bowls or other dishes!

Yelp
This 19 Drips location is a really great addition to the west side community. I've tried a few things on their food menu - and nothing I've had has blown my mind EXCEPT the pictured honeycomb bread. They warm it and top it with honey - it's divine. Their chai is good, though not my favorite in town since I prefer a pretty spicy chai. But it's not too sweet and is at least my favorite chai on this side of town! Service is always friendly and their space is great (though it's popular and often pretty packed).

Yelp
This is the second location of 19 Drips which replaced Songbird Cafe. My coffee snob friend likes coming here to get work done and drink good coffee. I really liked that the menu had a lot of snobby black coffee options like Chemex, Aeropress, Clever Dripper, etc. Next time, I'll have to try these out, but this time, I went with the mocha with oat milk. For 12 oz, it was $5.72 after tax which isn't too bad. It is 80 cents up charge for a milk alternative. I found that the mocha wasn't too sweet which was nice. I could tell this wasn't just hot chocolate (could taste the espresso). Overall, it was very pleasant. My friend and I had a good time catching up here and drinking the mocha. They also have a bunch of breakfast/brunch food options here that I'd like to try next time. Great new spot in Ann Arbor, but sad to see Songbird go.

Yelp
Excellent coffee and staff. I enjoyed a "19 Latte" which is a latte with cardamom and vanilla. Also got a large coffee with cream. Great place to have conversation or bring a computer and enjoy some expresso.

Yelp
This coffee shop has a great variety of coffees, teas, and food items. Really enjoyed the Yemeni inspired items. The 19s latte is really good and has a strong cardamom flavor. The 19s tea, which I think is Adeni tea, was ok but did not have as much flavor as I would have liked. I really liked the honeycomb bread. The space inside is clean, and they have plenty of seating. The service is very friendly.

Yelp
Their new location is a huge improvement!!! (And trust me I liked their old location! It was so cozy!) Their new location is in the old west side Songbird Cafe. This place has way more seating and parking. It also seems like they expanded their menu since the last time I visited. Can't wait to try it! Also a water jug looks like was added to if you're thirsty! Overall great vibes and happy to be here. Like always, their atmosphere is 100% on point. So relaxing and happy that I DONT want to put in headphones. The perfect coffee shop vibe with awesome jazz music. My only comment is that their menu above the cash register is a bit hard to read with the small font. But for someone who's incredibly nearsighted I appreciated the handheld menu available at the register. Great improvement 19 Drips! Happy to support your business!

Yelp
Surprised this didn't have any reviews yet but wow I was super excited to hear 19 Drips would be opening a new location over the summer! This location is located where Songbird cafe used to be and features all the original spot's delicious drinks as well as an expanded breakfast and lunch menu. The couple of times I've been here I've gotten a matcha latte and it is absolute perfection! So silky smooth with such a delightful flavor. The interior is nice and spacious with plenty of seating as well as some outdoor tables. The customer service here (and at the og location) is beyond compare. They are always super friendly and welcoming. I'm excited to try some of their breakfast items!

Yelp
Delicious breakfast pita, served up in a chill atmosphere by amazing family. The coffee was great too!

Jordan C.

Yelp
The Yemeni breakfast was one of the best breakfasts I've had in Ann Arbor. The breakfast wrap, iced coffee and matcha latte were all good too!

Yelp
Hands down the best coffee shop I've been to in Ann Arbor. The service was great they brought my order right to my table! They had plenty of coffee and tea options along with Italian sodas which made for a great menu. The food was fantastic! I ordered a basic plate and then also had the chicken bowl. They have a plethora of healthy food options as well as gluten free menu items. I tried a matcha latte for the first time and it did not disappoint. If I could recommend anything it would be the matcha latte with vanilla and the chicken bowl. Great experience overall. 10/10

Love the new expanded location! Super friendly staff and the chai I had was so delicious and spicy!

Yelp
Today I stopped in and felt so welcome! The baristas were joking around with each other and I love seeing this energy! Enjoyed a chia latte and honey comb while I read a book! Everything I could have ever hoped of from both parts! It was quiter cafe without a lot of distractions which I live for my reading time!

Yelp
Having been to both locations, it seems like a lot of people prefer this one, reading reviews of both. I found the old one pretty nice itself, simple and cozy and of course had a great aroma inside. This one lacked the aroma but had a lot more space to sit and more bakery options as well. So I guess depends on what you're looking for but I liked both. Wasn't a huge fan of their latte but did like their muffins!

Yelp
19 Drips continues to be great at their new location. The staff are really nice (I believe it is owned and run by two brothers). The coffee is really done well - probably the best chai latte we've ever had. The 19s latte was excellent too. The cherry pecan crumble bar was outstanding. Everything was the perfect amount of sweetness. I am glad they moved here because it looks like they are thriving in the larger space and larger parking lot. I definitely want to come back and try the breakfast.

Yelp
Great service. Authentic coffees and food but also great typical cafe drinks and food as well. All around great place to sip and chat.

Yelp
Awesome place. Amazing food & authentic feel. Staff was super friendly and very quick!

Yelp
Place was dirty. There was some type of flying beetle crawling around the one working bathroom. The orange juice was not cold. There was a lady, who was a regular there, that was waited on hand and foot while the other people had to wait.

Aisha L.

Yelp
Nice coffee shop with friendly staff. Wonderful selection of pastries and drinks. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
Good coffee and good service, but their baked goods leave a bit to be desired. It's a great place to study/read though!

Yelp
Stopped in on a whim, so glad we did! Our hot coffee drinks were delicious! We will definitely stop here again.

Ian H.

Yelp
Good coffee and price, but not keen on the 80¢ upgrade for almond milk for just 1/4" topper to my coffee. I can understand that charge for a latte or anything that requires an entire glass of milk substitute.

Zera M.

Yelp
When I go to Dearborn, there's this Yemeni coffee place that has a sweet/pastry that I absolutely love. It's a flaky bread stuffed with a sweet cheese and drizzled in honey. Perfect amount of sweetness. When I stumbled across 19 drips and saw that in the display I was super excited. It tasted so good and exceeded my expectations. Now I don't have to drive 40min to get it! I had a cappuccino with it and that was also perfect, a lot of places around town tend to add too much milk and end up giving you just a latte, not here. Will definitely make this a regular thing.

Ash S.

Yelp
Surprised by the good reviews. This place is TERRIBLE. First time, salmon avocado toast - toast barely toasted and barely any avocado. Second time - ordered TWO salmon thyme bagel sandwiches - got one bagel and one egg sandwich - salmon bagel sandwich had NO thyme and literally had one tiny sliver of smoked salmon. And latte was really bland. Such a rip off. I will NEVER order from here again and all members of my family are also going to stay away. Also they won't post my review on Door Dash so people are not getting honest feedback about the cafe. Bet other bad reviews don't get posted
