"It’s always a disappointment when a longtime neighborhood restaurant closes and even more so when the business does so with little notice. Tipsters alerted Eater to an auction of 1917 American Bistro’s equipment just a few days into the new year. Former proprietor and chef Don Studvent never publicly addressed the reasons for the closure, but the restaurant was widely mourned on social media. Fortunately for the Avenue of Fashion strip, a new restaurant called Good Times on the Ave is slated to fill the space soon." - Brenna Houck

An absolute gem in the City of Detroit. Personable, pleasant and practical. Treat yourself to the Bistro EXPERIENCE. You will not regret it! Best...to Chef Don and his entire staff.

My family and an out-of-town friend visited on last Saturday. Blown AWAY. Of all the items we ordered none were a disappointment: Spring Rolls and Crab Cakes for appetizers don't miss out, order these! both of them. Garlic Butter Chicken with rice and spinach, perfect. Creole Salmon is delicious. Chicken Caesar Salad to finish up the main dishes. Finish with either the Rum Cake or the Chocolate Cake, neither will disappoint. Believe you me this place met every need we had and didn't stop there. We were welcomed in like we knew each other for year and left full and filled with love. God bless this family and their wonderful restaurant. Stop reading these reviews and get over there and eat, eat, eat.

Wonderful live jazz band. Beautiful artwork on the walls. Very nice wait staff. The owners of the juice bar were very accommodating to my vegan needs. Evetything tastes fresh & flavorful (I had veggie stir fry). I had a great time & will definitely be back!

I enjoy the food here so much. Been coming for years and have never been disappointed by a dish. I believe they make the best grits, salmon, potato skins in the whole world! The owner and staff are friendly and welcoming everytime. My favorite spot.

My sister chose this venue for her birthday dinner. She likes to try a new restaurant every year and really likes to patronize small businesses, especially in the city. That being said, two of the three people in our party enjoyed the food; the caribbean and the blackened salmon were great. However, they were out of many of the items on the menu-either they had run out or were discontinued. They had alot of wait staff but I think they were new and not very efficient. They were out of steak bites, and about 4 other items on the menu. There was a problem with carbonated beverages and none were available; I heard the gentleman at the next table tell a waiter he had asked for lime wedges for his Corona beer of 5 different people-they had to send someone to purchase some. I ordered spring rolls-at first I was told someone had just ordered the last, and when I expressed my unhappiness, the waiter told me they found some; at $9 I had the equivalent of 2 egg rolls. Unfortunately, this first visit was not great.

Last year I called to inquire about hosting a bridal shower at this establishment. I was told the owner would need to contact me to answer any questions and provide prices. I left my name, telephone number and a couple of questions but I never received a return call. Fast forward to today. This was my first time patronizing this restaurant. Upon entering we were immediately seated. There were only 6 tables occupied including mine but it took 45 minutes for our shrimp stir fry to be brought out. Our waiter Isaiah was fabulous. He kept the water glasses full, he apologized repeatedly for the delay, when the food did finally arrive he came to make sure we didn't need anything else. The owner doesn't return phone calls, the kitchen staff was extremely slow, the portion size was very disappointing for the amount of money that I paid. I will not be dining here again. Isaiah was the best thing about the entire experience.

Southern classic menu with flare. I’ve had smoked salmon and capers there, I’ve had salmon croquettes there, I’ve had chicken and waffles. Whatever fits your fancy you can probably find from fresh squeezed juices and smoothies to mimosas. Owner and chef personally greets every guest. Very clean and elegant presentation but casual. Great for Sunday brunch
