Yelp
All I can say about this place is..."wow"...I really could not believe our experience.
But just to be clear, no real issues with staff. They did the best they could with what they had (or didn't have) and there in lies the issues. What they had which wasn't much.
So here we are, it's a Holiday weekend, Memorial day. The weather's nice, we've noticed a number of new breweries popping up in our old stomping grounds, we're hungry, could use a beer, let's support local brewing and give 'em a go. First thing you notice, as in most restaurants, even the hole in wall ones, a board with handwriting. Usually it's about specials, what's on the menu, chef's choice, etc. etc. Here, it's a board with a list....A LIST...of everything that they aren't serving because they are out of it...on a holiday weekend. So practically 1/4 of the menu is...off the menu. Are you serious! Okay so we order stuff, NOT on the board. Let's have some beer, after all, it's a brewery right? Well, First off the beer list was pretty meager with regards to selection and description, secondly the beer was cool...as in temperature. I don't know about you but beer should be cold right? Maybe German beer can be cool to warm, I dunno, but I like my beer cold. So as a brewery, wasn't very impressed, the beer itself nothing remarkable. Had it been COLD, might've made a slight difference.
Now, here we are drinking cold to warm beer and it's 20 minutes later. Server walks up after all our other friends had gotten their food. "Sorry, we're out of cheese for the caprese sandwich? Is there anything else?" My wife, "how about the chicken sandwich"..."Sorry, we're out of chicken." REALLY? But those items weren't on the board?! Okay, so she settles for their chips and salsa and what she got were crumbs, basically the bottom of the bag because.....you guessed it, they were out of chips and she probably didn't want to come back and tell us that, but they did throw in a complimentary small bag of potato chips for the trouble. A beer on the house might've made a better impression, but an apology and a bag of chips...well HELL that right there screams "We're a business you wanna come back to and tell your friends about."
So, as she eats her over priced crumbs, my son eating his cheese burger on a hot-dog bun because...they were out of hamburger buns, as was I, I decided, more beer, cold, warm...whatever. And as I was standing in line, all I heard was "Sorry, we're out of this"..."Sorry, we're out of that"....And all I could think was "Sorry, I don't think I'll ever be back to this place."
So time for the bill and guess what they charged us for...the sandwich which they were apparently not serving because they didn't have any cheese! Then it took another 15 minutes to rectify this so we would be charged for the lesser chips (crumbs) and salsa and we were out, never to return.
Again, the servers on site were fine, did the best they could with what they "didn't" have, but who ever is running this establishment should really get their act ("act" really isn't the word I wanted to use) together. The premise and idea seems okay, brewery right off the biking/walking/hiking trail...I mean nothing like having a nice buzz and getting on a bicycle, but their execution was poor. Maybe I got them on an off night, I mean it was a holiday weekend after all, you can't plan for something like that (sarcasm intended), but as this was a "First Impression" visit, this and this review is what I came away with.
I recommend the Savage Moose down the road...it's a bar, better selection of "COLD" beer, better food choices and they seem to keep their kitchen in stock, but then again I've never been there on a holiday weekend. Regardless I've never heard from a server..."Sorry, we're out of (Fill in the blank)". I recommend the poutine BTW....
