We have converted a London Double Decker Bus into a restaurant for an unforgettable dining experience! Being the proud parents to five beautiful children motivated us to start a business for our family. Inspired by the desire to redefine the food service industry norm and status quo. "This spot serves tacos just south of downtown Ann Arbor in perhaps one of the most unique settings in town — a converted, bright red double-decker bus straight from England. The venue isn’t the only thing from far-off places as the menu features eclectic tacos such as Korean Seoul — made with marinated beef and kimchi and the Arabian Night with falafel, feta, and roasted vegetables." - John Reyes

Yelp
This is a great place with outdoor seating for a very interesting bite. We started with the homemade chips and guacamole. The chips are made fresh and the guacamole was super fresh and chunky. A delicious starter. For the main event we had the Calle Clasica, a grilled beef street taco with onions, cilantro, and lime. The beef was delicious. We also had the O.M.G, which is a Japanese inspired chicken barbecue taco with slaw, cucumber, and mango salsa. This was such an interesting bite. Both of these were exceptional. Service was very good and friendly. We would definitely come back again.

Yelp
Excellent tacos, each one is very good with a good deal of variety, but I was pleasantly surprised by the sides (fries, falaffel) as well. The food also travels very well if you are interested in delivery. As somone with Celiac disease, the fact that this is the only dedicated gluten free restaurant in Ann Arbor is a lifesaver.

Yelp
Sigh. I really wanted to like this place. I mean...it is so cute! Who wouldn't want to eat at a refurbished double decker bus! Truly, the vibes of this place can't be beat. The staff is very friendly, service was quick, it's in a good location near both downtown and the stadium. However...the problem is the food. It's just very average. Something that really bothers me is when a restaurant posts photos on their menu that don't match what the dish actually looks like. This was especially true for the two appetizers we ordered: the fries and the chips & salsa. Both of these dishes looked AMAZING in the pictures, but came out looking very disappointing and bland in reality. And they are both pretty expensive apps too, which would be fine if the quality weren't so low. Flavor-wise, these dishes would be fine...for half the price. The tacos were a mixed bag. I ordered the fish tacos and I wasn't a huge fan. The mango salsa tasted okay, but the fish itself was flavorless. Maybe it's just the time of year? (I went in the winter). But in that case, maybe fish tacos should be a seasonal dish because these ones weren't great. My sister ordered the falafel tacos and she loved them, and said she would definitely order again. Together, my sister and I spent over $50 on our meal. This is outrageous for a food truck, in my opinion. But again, if the flavor and quality were better, I would be okay with this price. However, as it stands, this place is just not worth the price.

Yelp
This place is awesome and a must-go for anyone visiting (or even living in) Ann Arbor. The people working there are so kind. They wear all the hats: host, server, and chef. You can tell they're excited to have you visit and take a lot of pride in their restaurant. I'm not sure whether they're also the owners, but it definitely feels like they are. And we felt very welcome and excited to be there. My recommendation: dine on top of the double decker. Definitely get the chips and queso (they make each batch fresh per order), and I loved the fish taco (I forgot the name) and the Kentucky Derby is super awesome too. My partner says the Calle Classico was awesome too. (We're visiting from Austin, we don't know much about snow and basements and this Michigan life, but we know tacos and this place has got some great ones.) Highly recommend.

Yelp
Great food and a cool experience. We didn't get to eat on the bus, but the garden/patio was fun too.

Yelp
Worth the visit! I don't know what is more exciting - the story of how the owners got the bus to Ann Arbor or the food. Both complement each other, and the food is as delicious as it looks! There are so many varieties of the tacos, and so I recommend going with your friends and everyone getting something different so you can try a few different ones. 3 tacos was filling to me

Yelp
A bustaurant in early winter...I was skeptical at first but it definitely was a great experience. Double Decker bus from across the pond, fully functional kitchen, service window, upper deck (currently enclosed for the winter) with lights and a heater. On the front lawn there is an enclosed eating area w/ a heater as well. If you are looking to have a roof over your head, you can step into the blue house behind the bus for a great dining experience as well. This area is very aesthetically pleasing, open and clean. We tried a variety of tacos as well as the chips n' queso and falafel. Our favorite tacos were the Korean Seoul and Kentucky Derby. While the price is more than you typically pay for a taco ($6), they are packed solid with flavor and goodness. It is definitely worth stopping out for some great food and the experience. The owners Aaron and Miriam were very welcoming and forthcoming on how this place came to be. This place is truly representative of these owners...stop in and check this place out!

Yelp
I'm going to be honest, the rave reviews about 1923 are shocking to me. Pros: incredibly friendly and efficient service. This unique bus/ restaurant seems to be run by passionate and kind folks. I appreciate that I could take any gluten-free friends here and feel confident that they would have plenty of options. Cons: my biggest issue with our experience here was the value of the food we ordered. $6 for one taco is a pretty insane price. Having lived in Chicago for years, I'll admit that I am spoiled by taco quality vs price. But even in nicer Chicago taco joints, you're looking at $4-5 a taco. The price might have been offset by quality, but our group wasn't super impressed by any of the tacos we ate. It seems like 1923 is trying to do too much, instead of focusing on perfecting a few things. The only thing that MIGHT tempt me to come back is their nacho option - it seems like you can get any of their taco toppings onto a plate of nachos. However at $17 a plate, that's still a steep price for nachos. It's likely I won't come back here.

Yelp
Best non-traditional (these are definitely not your average meat/cilantro/onion street tacos) in Ann Arbor!!! I stopped in after a random Google search for tacos in downtown town Ann Arbor...so glad I did! Absolutely fantastic tacos!!!! I have the Caribbean Queen jerk chicken, the Omiyagi, and the Korean Seoul. All three were fantastic! The OMG was my favorite but it was hard to pick. The owners are super friendly, the atmosphere is just plain cool, and the location is only a block from the center of downtown. If you are anywhere near here you must stop by! Saw a few complaints online regarding the price but you can't get this much fresh food for $6 anywhere else so I can't see why people are complaining, I mean Taco Bell charges $3 for a taco that has frozen meat out of a bag in it. These tacos are definitely worth the $6 a piece. And to be honest, they are so filling that two will probably be enough for most people to happily full. I'll be making this a regular stop when I'm downtown!

Yelp
We had been passing by for a while but decided to stop once we found out that the building next to the double decker was part of the restaurant. The interior was bright and welcoming. The top deck was closed due to rain so it wasn't an option. We chose a variety of tacos and everything was delicious. The Kentucky derby was my favorite, crispy and savory. The Caribbean could have used a little more heat, I was missing that true scotch bonnet flavor but still enjoyed it. The one caveat was too many toppings led to soggy bottom tacos and we ended up eating them with a fork. Still, it was tasty so not a huge deal. We also tried the chips and salsa, they are perfect! The falafel was flavorful and not greasy or heavy. We will be back! Would love to see seasonal options, maybe a shrimp taco!

Yelp
This place is amazing, fantastic vibe. Tacos are a 10/10. Do the OMG, won't regret it.

Yelp
This is a food truck that is in a red double decker roofless London style bus! It is amazing. It is easy to see when you find it. It has only moved twice in the last year apparently as it likes to find a place with additional seating. Picnic table cluster a the last location where our host in Ann Arbor had been eating but though that dress was still listed online our morning when we got there it was gone. They found the new location online and drove over. Plenty of parking there and even an option for indoor seating in a horselike structure. But that day, in good weather, everyone who showed up for lunch opted to climb the stairs to the rooftop seating. It was really fun. The food was very good. A variety of taco options, from the most traditional to my favorite, the Mediterranean, with falafel. Some of our party had the Carribbean, others the the Atlantic as fish was especially popular. Be sure to check out the online menu so you have a plan. The staff took the order outside, between the bus and the house, we then climbed the stairs and chose some countertop seating with a good view on a sunny day. The cooks work in the lower part of the bus. Staff delivers the food up the winding stairs. It is very family friendly, but toddlers need a lot of personal attention up there. And when the top is full, there is also good inside seating in the house which also serves for weather protection in wet weather.

Yelp
I recently dined at 1923, a taco haven owned and operated by the talented duo Aaron and Miriam. The Arabian night tacos were a true delight, boasting succulent falafel and a heavenly balsamic drizzle that added an exquisite depth of flavor. The tortillas were perfection, with a texture that enhanced every bite. The ambiance at 1923 is a unique blend of coziness and elegance, creating the ideal setting for an unforgettable dining experience. For those seeking a distinctive culinary adventure in downtown Ann Arbor, I highly recommend 1923. It's a gem for taco enthusiasts looking for something truly special.

Yelp
Tacos are excellent, the owners are super nice and friendly always a smile and the ambience is incredible sitting in that double-decker bus or sitting in the house around the front yard.

Kate N.

Yelp
Good tacos with a nice variety ! Wonderful service staff. Fun location. Enjoy with friends.

Kristina K.

Yelp
These are some of the most flavorful and unique street tacos we've had. We ordered 6 of the 7 flavors (left out the fish taco) and I was pleasantly surprised that the "Arabian Night" was our absolute favorite. I'd never had falafel before and was trying something new, and 100% recommend you add it to your taco selection. Second favorite was the "Korean Seoul" taco. It was raining so we didn't get to sit out on the lit patio or on top of the bus, but the new location has bright and modern indoor dinning rooms. We weren't sure where to make our order at first and we're directed inside where a server came and took our order so we didn't have to stand out in the rain. Overall, good service, and really unique flavors. Knocking a star off as the prices at 3 for $17 was a little steep for street tacos, although they were filling.

Yelp
Delicious food and perfectly lovely service. We sat on the top of the bus and it couldn't have been better! The view was charming. I do wish it had a table or two up there with actual seats, instead of just stools... but it is not really a "come and hang out for hours" sort of situation. Also, the patio seating is all very comfortable-- just not the seating on top of the bus. We can't wait to go back!

Andy S.

Yelp
Please note, as of this review, the address is 552 S. Main St. Yelp has the wrong address listed. Food was awesome, place was very clean and has some great seating options! Owner was very nice. I had three tacos and they might be the best tortillas I've ever had. Can't say enough about this place...and to have gluten free fried chicken on a taco!

Diana K.

Yelp
Left to right: Voyage to Atlantis, Kentucky Derby, Arabian Night tacos We also got the Caribbean Queen and Omiyage All were great! Ingredients are very fresh, meat was good quality. The salsas are light and fresh, not too sweet, not cloying. The meat is flavorful and not over salted. The falafel was very crunchy and flavorful as well We went to the wrong location first (on Miller) -- the double decker bus was located at 552 S. Main St. and we sat indoors in the converted house

Genna D.

Yelp
The food here is amazing there are not even words. The flavor is outstanding. I wish I could eat more in one sitting ! The environment is amazing you will not find another place like this! Also celiac safe ! The service is amazing and everyone is so friendly.

Jacob G.

Yelp
Really cool concept, and great for a sunny day. Tacos and food was great. Loved that it's gluten free so we could just pick what we wanted and not have to think too much about it. Very fun to eat on top of a double decker bus. There's a heated tent for colder days. Tried three varieties of tacos, and all were great. Service was friendly and prompt. Very much worth trying it out. Great little lunch spot.

Cameron B.

Yelp
BEST jerk tacos in Ann Arbor hands down. Ive been on a hunt for jerk chicken tacos since first having them at a Jamaican taco shack in the keys. This has finally surpassed that fond memory and has taken crown. Juicy and tender chicken, sweet and robust mango salsa and the cooked pineapple to finish off the palette. $15 for 3 of these bad Jackson's and theres no going wrong at any turn.

Johnny L.

Yelp
Dang good tacos. And gluten free! Sit on the bus, the courtyard, or inside the house -- can't go wrong. Service was killer too. Kinda wish I lived here so I could come every day.

Jaime M.

Yelp
It was fun sitting on top of the bus to eat! The tacos were all really good, especially the falafel one, and I'm picky about falafel! The taco shells were perfectly crispy and I will definitely be going back again soon to try the other tacos!!

Robert M.

Yelp
Really excited to have this place in the neighborhood. The covered double decker bus is a very cool place to sit. The tacos are big and have really interesting flavors. We loved the OMG Japanese chicken, Korean beef, and the falafel. The jerk chicken and normal fish tacos were a little less flavorful. The staff/owners are super nice!

Marnie B.

Yelp
We had a fun and delicious takeout dinner with a medley of tacos loaded with fresh ingredients. All were so flavorful. My faves were the Korean Seoul and the Kentucky Derby tacos. Can't wait to come back and eat inside their heated tent! And soon they plan to enclose the top deck of the bus for more heated dining. The staff was wonderful. So friendly and kind.

Ben M.

Yelp
So glad that we ended up trying this place. We recently moved back to Ann Arbor, this time with the knowledge that my partner has Celiac disease. My partner found this place looking for restaurants that would be able to accommodate their new dietary restrictions, and we came to find catering to particular needs, in particular gluten related ones, is exactly what 1923 does. So, we popped over for dinner and tried one of each of the 7 tacos on the menu. None disappointed. Standouts include the Arabian Nights (falafel) and Voyage to Atlantis (fish) tacos. Chips were made fresh and good. Looking forward to coming back and trying some more things from the menu. The only bummer with our first visit was that it was raining (they do have seating under a tent with heaters), so we were unable to explore the double decker bus.

kim d.

Yelp
Would like this place if you could walk up to bus and order like a taco truck. We just wanted to grab a few tacos and sit on top, but they force service on you making it even more expensive. 3 of us shared 9 tacos. No drinks. Takeout style containers. Over $60 with tip. Tasty, but not affordable

Jillian C.

Yelp
Such a great restaurant! We tried every taco, the fries, and the chips and salsa -- all were delicious! Aaron, the owner, was incredibly kind and helpful. The food came out quickly and didn't disappoint. We will definitely be back!

John S.

Yelp
Miriam and Aaron are amazing!!!! This was the best food experience we have had our whole trip!! The food was AWESOME!!! We love tacos and this place knocked it out of the park! We are traveling with 5 adults and 10 kids ranging from 15-3- we all left happy and full!!! The Kentucky Derby was the favorite- but all of the tacos were so good!!

Aaron V.

Yelp
Hands down some of the best food I've ever had at a restaurant. And I've eaten at tons of restaurants throughout the country. Each taco has incredible and unique flavor composition. We all got three different tacos and were all blown away. Plus, 1923 is allergen friendly! I'm celiac and dairy free. Everything is gluten free, and they're very careful if you have another food allergy. The owner was really nice and understanding. I'm so excited to see how the restaurant expands and am going to eat all the tacos.

LL S.

Yelp
Delicious tacos, especially the falafel. Fast and friendly service. Have been a few times and look forward to many more.

Liz H.

Yelp
What a fun place with delicious tacos. The owners are friendly and very accommodating. We will be back!

Michael P.

Yelp
Having a tasty taco truck within walking distance of our house has been incredibly useful for our household. The staff are great, and they're feature to order ahead for pick up has been great also.

S S.

Yelp
1923 is a great new addition to Ann Arbor's food scene. Their food and systems are awesome. You can order ahead online or when you are there, and the owners are super friendly. The tacos come helpfully packaged for takeout. I love the Korean beef and the chicken with pineapple and mango. The taco shells have nice taste and crunch.

Aaron R.

Yelp
Great concept and great food. Had three tacos and they were all tasty. It's a cool food truck run out of an old double decker London bus. Highly recommended.

Doreen G.

Yelp
All around fantastic! The experience alone is worth the visit. The food was excellent and the service spot on. I had the fish tacos (Voyage to Atlantis). They were delicious. I would definitely order them again however the menu has so many other unique taco/nacho options I can't wait to go back and try them all.
