The 15 Best Restaurants In Bar Harbor, Maine 2024

"There are unfortunately no cats at this breakfast spot on Cottage Street, but you should still start your day here by scarfing down homemade corned beef hash and a flaky biscuit slathered in strawberry butter. The wraparound porch also makes for some good people-watching as morning adventurers prepare to kayak around the bay or bike Acadia’s carriage roads. " - anne cruz

Did not stay in the rooms but had a wonderful breakfast there. Great big omelets and spicy (not too spicy) potatoes. Good service but was a bit slow to recognize that we had Sat down. Wasn't even a busy Sat morning. But a good people watch and parking watch. Amazing that people still can't parallel park! Fun to watch while waiting for service .

Google
We enjoyed breakfast so much we ate here twice! We do not agree with some of these reviews. Service was great!! The lobster 3 egg omelette was fluffy and filled with ingredients. The raspberry and blueberry pancakes are made with whole grain flour and are fluffy and delicious. The biscuits are amazing and flaky especially with the strawberry butter, yum!

Google
I want to tell you not to go here because the breakfast was so good with affordable filling tasty food and the line was nonexistent without you here! The coffee was good and sitting on the deck in the morning was wonderful. I had the avocado bacon and potato omelet with salsa. delicious. If you do come for breakfast I’ll make room at the table.

Kaveri Sehgal

Google
Great breakfast spot with outdoor and indoor seating! Had the traditional eggs benedict which came with fruit and home fries. My husband created a build your own omelette, which wasn’t on the menu but they were open to doing that. He also replaced the fries with fresh fruit bowl which was an extra charge. Coffee is bottomless and the orange juice was freshly squeezed!

Google
No complaints about the service but the food left something to be desired. I was really excited to try the Maine blueberry pancakes and while the flavor was there, the pancakes were incredibly chewy. I also ordered “thick-sliced bacon,” but the bacon I received was nowhere near thick. My dad tried the farmer’s breakfast and really enjoyed the potatoes but described the biscuit as a school cafeteria biscuit.

We had a great time dining here. Ashma was a wonderful server. she was friendly, attentive and made our experience even better. The food was delicious and the seating was perfect. I absolutely loved the pancake, and my friend ordered the omelet which was also amazing. Would definitely come back!

We went to 2 Cats the first morning we were in the area and liked it so much that we went there for breakfast 2 out of the other 3 days we were there. The food and organic coffee were excellent (in particular the blueberry pancakes, special benedict, Mediterranean breakfast and hash browns), the atmosphere and cat-centric decor were just right, and the service was great. While one of our servers was good and one was OK (no problem with the service but she was kinda grouchy), one stood out as one of the best servers I've ever had. Not only was Marie friendly and helpful but when she found out it was my birthday, she surprised me by singing the most beautiful rendition of "Happy Birthday" I have ever heard. Thank You Marie and the 2 Cats!

Google
We came here for breakfast. I’m vegan and my boyfriend is allergic to shellfish and we had multiple options here. I got the tofu scramble and fresh squeezed orange juice. He got the corned beef hash. We both loved our entrees. They came out in less than five minutes (we’re here on a Wednesday in July). Also, we sat outside with our dog. We would 10/10 recommend, Sean is an amazing server!

Yelp
Incredibly delicious Lobster Benedict. Quite possibly one of the best breakfasts I have ever eaten. The lobster was perfectly cooked and the eggs were perfectly poached, hollandaise sauce was bright and the perfect texture. I didn't love the English muffin but it was a fitting sponge for the saucy goodness. Potatoes were cooked and seasoned to perfection and the fresh fruit was a nice touch. Service was attentive, my coffee was never empty. I would eat here again in a heartbeat.

Yelp
We stopped by in early afternoon approaching closing, so this might not be typical. We ordered drinks to go. We ordered a double espresso, iced latte and strawberry smoothie. The amount of actual liquid in the espresso was equivalent to a half espresso - a little more than a tablespoon. And very lukewarm. The latte was nearly all milk and ice, with a very slight hint of coffee. All this might've been because of being early afternoon and getting closer to closing, because many of the staff were rushing around. Maybe this wasn't the regular coffee barista. The smoothie was great! I'm told an 8 out of 10.

Yelp
To start, as a cat lady myself I love the atmosphere here. All the cat decor and the paw print tables, plus everything being so colorful makes it wonderful to sit here. The juice is fresh and comes in a chilled glass. Perfect fluffy pancakes and I got the freshest banana I have ever had on the side. Peak ripeness. The French toast was made with a baguette which was interesting but it was very good! Typical French toast taste and soft. The corned beef hash was one of the best ones my friend has ever had, and she got poached eggs which were done perfectly with the tight whites and runny center. She described the meal as "Devine".

Yelp
We were seated very quickly at 7:30am (less than 5 minute wait) and had quick service. Most menu items came with an order of spicy home fries and a biscuit with strawberry butter which were delicious. :) We tried the corned beef hash and summer scramble with a blueberry pancake to share. Both entrees were around $15 each and the pancake was $5.50.

Yelp
My friend had come here a few years ago and was very excited to return! We came in on a Saturday morning and it was not very busy at all. We were able to be seated out on the patio right away! If you're averse to birds I recommend sitting inside as there are lots flying around all the flowers and tables. I ordered the farmer's breakfast and a side pancake for a little bit of everything! The scrambled eggs were nicely cooked and the sausage was very andouille-like with a bit of kick. The homefries were delicious as well! The biscuit was so good too - the strawberry butter was so unique! The pancake was nicely cooked and had lots of small wild blueberries in it. I recommend sharing as it's a decent size pancake for a side! It looks like they employ a lot of international workers which was super cool. There's a board by the host station with all the countries the staff is from!

Yelp
We visited 2 cats on a rainy day in June. The restaurant was slammed and they still managed to seat us within 30 mins. The food was high quality, the service was a little slow, and the ambience was homey. I ordered scrambled eggs, Canadian bacon, and toast. Good place to check out for breakfast.

Yelp
Corned beef hash was the best I've ever eaten. Hands down. Don't miss this place! Pricey, but worth every penny. Quaint location, in downtown Bar Harbor, but on the outskirts of it. Easy to get to, with plentiful (pay) parking around it. The four of us agree that of our 12 days on the road thus far, this was the best meal we've eaten. No one in our party was even mildly disappointed. Service was fine, very polite and friendly.

Yelp
Very good quality, and good sized portions. SO SO YUMMY!! Perfect breakfast to fuel up before heading into Acadia!

Yelp
First time coming here- It was pouring rain when we got here and we went inside to check in because there was a visible wait. The hostess came over to us and told us to wait outside, and proceeded to shoo us out the front door onto the deck and was tapping my arm while doing so. Very odd behavior- like don't touch me! She sat us and also proceeded to watch us the entire meal making me very uncomfortable. I have never experienced this at a restaurant. Our server was very nice though. The food was very good. The prices are high but to be expected in a tourist area.
google avatar

Sandra H.

Yelp
Great food, reasonable price. Lobster Benedict actually had a whole lobsters-worth of meat.

Yelp
Best breakfast of our trip in all ways!! Will recommend to everyone coming to town who wants a less touristy experience and willing to walk just a few more minutes

Brandon R.

Yelp
This is a MUST stop while in Bar Harbor. The lobster Benedict was absolutely amazing. There were a few on Yelp that complained stating that it was bland and overpriced, but that wasn't the case. The lobster Benedict was $32.95 and worth EVERY penny and I wouldn't hesitate to order again. The home fries were delicious, make sure to get their house made hot sauce. We also had a granola bowl, which was great and a Cat Paw that had the right balance of cinnamon and sugar and highly recommend. Our waitress suggested putting butter on the cat paw and she was spot on, it was great. A cat paw is kind of like a biscuit and cinnamon roll combined..... it was great. We sat on the front patio which was great to see that they are pet friendly as well. One of the best brunches that we've had in a really long time and would highly recommend.

Yelp
Such a cute little restaurant! We were seated right away as a table of 7 for breakfast (and with a large party, that's no easy feat). Our server was attentive and everything was tasty with huge portions. Loved the homemade biscuits and pots of tea.

Yelp
My friend and I came here for breakfast before adventuring into the park for the day. The service was very quick and the food was delicious. We were also in love with the decor and theme of the restaurant. We shared the baguette French toast and summer scramble, the proportions were perfect and everything was tasty. Definitely recommend stopping here if you're in the area!!

Yelp
Overall: honestly love the design of this restaurant and the ambience. Definitely not writing home about the food as it was a very classic American diner. Nonetheless very cute spot and a good meal to have on the way out in the morning. Food: omelette was very standard flavors. Can't mess up eggs veggies and seasoning. I will say they had fun little condiments and sides with their maple syrup being delectable and the biscuit actually being quite good. Not too dense and not quite crumbly. The potatoes were roasted too an addicting level. Ambience/Decor/Service: colorful little house repurposed as a restaurant. Beautiful patio deck to absorb the weather. Fun indoor dining area perfect for kids with colorful chalkboards and fun tables and chairs. Runs a bit on the older side so it could use a little touching up of the furniture but honestly part of the vibe.

Yelp
Yelp review 2 Cats Bar Harbor Looking for fresh home made meals with unique local ingredients Maine is known for this restaurant will not disappoint. Parking is on the street and can be a bit challenging but you pay electronically at the closest meter. Opened just for breakfast and they do a remarkable number of meals per day. We noticed a few owners happily gathered in a designated outdoor seating area with their well behaved four legged friends. We returned a few times, we enjoyed their versions of Eggs Benedict's which were done well, nicely portioned, base made of a homemade biscuit and well done Hollandaise sauce. Breakfast: Day 1 ***** Veggie Eggs Benedict- perfectly poached eggs, bed of fresh spinach and a delicious fresh baked biscuit rather than the usual English muffin. The spicy home fries were done well with crispy bits and toasty edges. **** Apple,Walnut and Cheddar Omelette- husband enjoyed this very much. Day 2 **** Lobster Eggs Benedict - nice chunks of lobster. **** Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict - tasty thin sliced slivers of smoked salmon layered with perfectly poached eggs. Day 3- yes, why change a good thing, we went with omelettes. ***** Smoked trout with dill and creamy horseradish sauce. The trout had a smooth smoky flavor and was incorporated nicely into the omelet. The fresh herbs and sauce perfectly imparted great flavor. **** Mushroom, Boursin and Scallion omelette was blended well, light and fluffy and greatly enjoyed by my husband. Topping all these delicious meals was great tasting coffee. Free WiFi. Friendly staff and enjoyable views of the flowered garden and colorful street scenes. We usually arrived after the busy breakfast rush and it was less crowded. Decidedly a favorite of ours and understandably popular.

Yelp
Food & service was amazing! I definitely recommend getting the blueberry pancake. If you're in Bar Harbor, this breakfast is unbeatable.

Tom S.

Yelp
Very nice ambience. Service was good. That's about all the positives I can really say. Ordered a cappuccino and it was lukewarm. When the food arrived the poached eggs were solid and there was a little paper thin slice of salmon on my Benedict. The potatoes were soggy and not good either. The fruit on the plate to their credit was fantastic. All in all, would not eat there again as there are plenty of better places
google avatar

Yelp
Really good food. Good atmosphere and coffee. Good service but a bit pricy. Very picturesque.

Yelp
As breakfast food lovers, this place was high on our list of restaurants to try in Bar Harbor so we went there on our first morning in town. We didn't think that was going to be an original idea on a busy holiday weekend, but we got seated right away on their spacious outdoor deck. With this being Maine, I had to try the Lobster Benedict...it was delicious! Others in our party had a Traditional Benedict and the Farmer's Breakfast - everyone really enjoyed their breakfast at this fun spot! the service was great, too!

Yelp
I did not see one cat, let alone 2 cats. My daughter wore her cat jacket and was disappointed... and I figured that this would be a great time to teach her about disappointments, so not only did we get great food but my daughter learned a valuable life lesson. So since we were in Maine, my wife had the lobster omelette and I had lobster and poached eggs. The food was super good but they did run out of a few things even though we got there an hour before closing so I couldn't try the freshly squeezed grapefruit juice. That aside it was fairly nice.

Yelp
My wife and I were on vacation here in MDI and had an awesome start to the day at 2 Cats. All of their ingredients are bright and full of flavor. Highly recommend the blueberry pancake with a cup of coffee. Also the Breakfast Burrito and Farmer's Breakfast were both great meals to start a day full of hiking. 100% need to try if you are in town!

Yelp
My sister, 2 of our friends, and I checked out 2 Cats while on a road trip last week. At first, we were a little bit confused whether or not they were open, because the typical apps (Yelp, Google Maps, Apple Maps, and regular Google) all told us different things as to if they were open or not. In the end, we called the restaurant and confirmed that they were open, and then headed over. One of us is gluten free and has Celiac's, and when we called the restaurant, they confirmed that they had gluten free options, which was amazing. It was raining, but we found free street parking just a few feet away from the restaurant and quickly walked over. Because of the weather, nobody was sitting outside, although we could see that the restaurant had a cute outdoor area, which I am sure would be nice on another day! Nevertheless, the host sat us quickly inside and the vibe was cozy and cute. We all ended up ordering eggs benedict, and my gluten free friend was allowed to substitute the hash for fruit, as the hash is not gluten free. We also each ordered drip coffee, and our server told us she would bring us some milk. The food and coffee were good, but I am taking off a star because when the bill came, we saw that they had charged us extra for the milk that the server offered, as well as the gluten free substitutions. This was not reflected on the menu, nor was it communicated when we were ordering, so it felt unnecessary and a bit rude. At the end of the day, a few dollars for milk or for a gluten free accommodation is not going to break the bank, but it did feel like the restaurant was trying to be sneaky the way that they did it. However, that is just my opinion, so hopefully others feel better with their experiences, because the food was good!

Yelp
This place is so nostalgic for me, I can't believe it's still here after all these years! Came here as a little kid with my family and never forgot it. And boy, did it live up to my memories! The food is incredible, with all the wonderful Maine specialties you could ask for. I got the lobster eggs benedict and it was not only so delicious, but I couldn't believe how many thick, juicy chunks of lobster they fit on top! Everything was wonderful, including the service. It really feels like a little family there. So happy we got to stop by!
google avatar

Hayli Z.

Yelp
Came here on a rainy day and the place was hopping. I read about giant biscuits and was excited, but it was pretty small and firmer more like a scone, but that strawberry butter - yes please! I got the meal that came with tea, but it was plain unsweetened black tea so not a fan of that. Overall it was ok, I bet it's nicer on a sunny day but the food itself was alright.
google avatar

Jenny W.

Yelp
Food was good- a lot of food so share if you're a light eater. we had the farmers breakfast with a homemade biscuit and strawberry butter - yum! The mediterranean breakfast was good but the polenta was too hard maybe substitute with the muffin if you can! ambience was awesome nice outdoor seating and people brought their pups :) Service was good

Yelp
Bar Harbor, MDI, Ellsworth area is a black hole for decent food. 2 cats is the gem. Good quality breakfast, healthy ingredients for a good value. My favorite place in town

Jk S.

Yelp
We've been coming here for years. Love love love bar harbor. 2 Cats is one of our solid go to breakfast places. Today was a major disappointment. The good news: some of the best fresh hash we've ever had. Awesome potatoes too. Spiced and flavorful! Also, good service. The downsides: the pancakes were severely under done. And the blueberry pancakes had approximately one teaspoon or less of blueberries. Not what you would expect to pay for almost $20. Lastly the biscuits. Totally inedible. Rock hard and dry. Hope the review helps to make some adjustments.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I walked in right at 7am and beat the 7:10am rush!!! I had the mushroom omelette and ATE THE WHOLE THING - it was so good! My boyfriend had a different kind of omelette and it was good too! We were sad we didn't see any cat there tho! Oh my boyfriend loved the strawberry butter!
google avatar

Christine M.

Yelp
What a treat this place was! I ordered the corned beef hash and it was excellent! The portion size was great and included a large biscuit, yummy strawberry butter, and fresh fruit!
google avatar

Kendra S.

Yelp
We stopped by Cat's on a Monday morning in July and were able to quickly get a table forindoors. We all enjoyed the cat decor and the food was good. Some of us liked our meals more than others, but we would go there again.
google avatar

Jen Y.

Yelp
I saw this place as one of the recommended places to go to eat breakfast. Such a homely cozy place. The service was great and just right. It was pretty busy and they do close early. For us it was no rush even if they gave us the check, our waitress was just wonderful and told us to take our time to eat. I highly recommend this place if you're ever in Bar Harbor, Maine. For our lunch consists of a delicious Lobster Omelette. We also ordered ice coffee and one cat paw muffin which is famous for its cat paw shape. Unfortunately I was not able to eat it since I do have nut allergies so my boyfriend was able to tell me how it tasted. Tasted like a cross between a popover & coffee cake. Overall a great first time experience!
google avatar

Sammy W.

Yelp
I went to 2 Cats this morning for breakfast and I enjoyed my time there! The strawberry smoothie was not the best, so I probably wouldn't order it again, but the food was delicious. My favorite thing about the whole meal was the biscuit with the strawberry butter! It was soooo good!! My dad really enjoyed the sausage that came with the Farmer's Breakfast. Super cute and chill atmosphere and the bathrooms are very clean. Our server was very friendly and helpful. I would definitely come back!
google avatar

Olivia V.

Yelp
what a cute spot!!! and cats? hello! got the lobster eggs benedict and it was - delish! very tiny but joyous spot right down the street of the main strip. waiter was definitely busy but kept up well. enjoyed !

Ron L.

Yelp
We enjoyed the breakfast and the service was good. It is one of the few breakfast locations that opens early.
google avatar

Erin J.

Yelp
What a charming place! As a cat lady, I loved all the vintage cat decor, including sweet little foot prints on the tables. We tried the Maine blueberry pancakes (so good!!), home fries (very good spices and flavor), biscuits (so tender, melt in your mouth, but they don't bring enough strawberry butter with them). The eggs and bacon were cooked well too. Everything came out quickly. I ate like a pig! My dad got the apple walnut omelet which was also really tasty.
google avatar

Alex J.

Yelp
My family ate here today. The food was good. I got the Ho Hum. The eggs were cooked well. The "spicy" potatoes were not spicy, still good though. The star of the show was the biscuit and the strawberry butter. Wow. That could have been a meal by itself. My kids and wife got pancakes. They were all good. My kids asked for whipped cream and sprinkles. The restaurant delivered. The blueberry pancakes were good. Price wise it is about the same as the other places around. Our waitress was nice and brought plastic cups with lids for the children. Like another review, prepare to be disappointed. No cats were to be seen anywhere. Adirondack chairs out front were nice to sit on.
google avatar

Corkie B.

Yelp
One of the best breakfasts out I've had in a long time! The potatoes, eggs, spicy sausage and biscuit with strawberry butter were all delicious! Fun sitting on the porch which had a lot of character and the garden out front is gorgeous. Service was quick and friendly!
google avatar

Diane H.

Yelp
A group of puppy raisers met for breakfast in season. We were seated quickly outside. The breakfast choices were broad, we had omelets, pancakes and a standard breakfast. Weird to me they didn't have any "plain" tea for breakfast after being told there was Earl Grey. Sodas were served in cans, I would have preferred fountain soda with refills. Average morning at a nice restaurant,
google avatar

Jeff S.

Yelp
Gorgeous little flowery place on the edge of town. I really enjoyed their homemade corned beef hash. And the coffee was tasty. As was the biscuit. Sat in the protected outside/porch area, and our server was very pleasant. Will definitely return.

Zizi A.

Yelp
The food was mediocre at best. Lobster dishes were overpriced, and our coffee mugs were dirty. The strawberry butter was the only highlight, truly delicious.
google avatar

Bethany L.

Yelp
This was definitely our favorite breakfast for our trip up the coast of Maine and our short stay in Bar Harbor! Both my husband and I opted for one of their current specials - a lobster omelet and a lobster benedict. Both were delicious and the lobster portion was quite generous. It is clear, the real star of this place are those delicious biscuits. YUM!
google avatar

Brent S.

Yelp
Amazing food. The spicy home fries were well seasoned and the fresh onions were cooked great. The Lobster Benedict was excellent, with nice chunks of lobster and a perfect amount of hollandaise sauce.....don't drown it. Their fresh squeezed juice was great. Thought the food here was a head above Cafe This Way that we had the morning prior.
google avatar

Ryann D.

Yelp
Most incredible lobster Benedict I've ever had. Delectable and well seasoned! Lobster was not chewy at all. Melted in my mouth. Service was also excellent and food came out quickly! The restaurant was also very cute. We sat outside and really enjoyed the colorful seating, plating, & beautiful flowers outside!
google avatar

Zhen E.

Yelp
Very cute house setting with many cats deco, a cat lover place. More brunch choices, good biscuits, unlimited plain coffee, fast and nice table services.
google avatar

Christina C.

Yelp
Worst services ever! Extremely salty traditional eggs benedict, decorated with burned home fries - yikes! Will not return even if you offer to pay!!! Don't give this place the opportunity to ruin your day at Bar Harbor.
google avatar

Parsa K.

Yelp
Food was great, service was great! Great little spot in Bar Harbor. Would recommend to anyone visiting bar harbor

Andria M.

Yelp
Restaurant review only food was good, but service not so much. It felt like our waiter was annoyed we were there. We came here after watching the sunrise on Cadillac Mountain and were eager to warm up. We were sat outside even though there was room inside. It took awhile for the overhead heater to turn on. There were plastic flaps that could have been closed to block the wind, but instead we had to sit in the chilly and windy weather. There were also a lot of bees around. French toast was really good. The breakfast potatoes were a little overcooked. We were given attitude when asked to split the bill. It is a cute spot though.
