Google
I’ve always seen these savory type of pies on YouTube and other social media so I was looking forward to try this out. And I was very pleasantly surprised - there was a screen showing all the different fillings and I went for the beef curry with a side of fries. The beef was cooked well and the curry was very flavored forward. I loved the spice level - even the house sauce provided had a bit of a kick. If you like spicy food you’ll like this place. The service was super friendly and the owner mentioned they have some non spicy and vegetarian options available too. Definitely a unique addition to the Houston cuisine seen but one that is very welcomed!

Google
Not that I’ve had many, but probably the best meat pie I’ve ever had! A little pricy at $12, but the lamb curry pie I had, had such a great depth of flavor! Moist, rich, and the lamb was super tender. Pies are baked to order, which is a huge plus!

Google
We love Indian and Pakistan food! So samosas caught my attention when I looked through the menu. I ordered chicken samosas and they were absolutely delicious! One of the best I’ve had! The chef also recommended lamb curry pie! It was baked to order. Wow! The pie skin was flaky and crunchy. Lamb curry filling was very flavorful with a spicy kick to it! Everything was delicious and we definitely will be back!

Google
As a South African that misses a good pie, this place is exceptional! They were happy to fill my large order of frozen pies - so I can bake them at home throughout the week. If you haven't tried a good meat pie, I emplore you to give it a try, especially the lamb curry. I also appreciate that all the meat is halal - 5 stars all 'round!

Google
Such a cute place that we just stumbled upon last night. The lamb curry pie was INCREDIBLE - perfect amount of spice! And the guys were so nice and even gave us their extra steak pie which was (you guessed it) incredible! I will be back and recommend to everyone

Google
I will start by saying, this is one of the most delicious and outstanding food experiences I’ve had in the city of Houston. I had never heard of this restaurant before I went to a weekend market at Post. When I saw it I knew I had to try it. I love Indian foods and I love meat pies, so I had high hopes for the two put together! I ordered the lamb curry pie, the chicken curry pie, and the spinach paneer pie. Every one of them tasted absolutely astonishing. The lamb curry pie was my personal favorite. Spicy, hot, very meaty, and with a perfect crispy pie crust. The staff was incredibly nice and the prices were very fair. Absolutely will recommend to anyone, and will return.

Google
Really enjoyed my experience at 2 Phat. It’s truly a special experience to try a fusion of British, Indian and African flavors in a pie form. It’s Zimbabwe style pies as the owners are from there and they offer halal meat in their pies. We tried the pepper steak, lamb curry, beef curry, steak and mushroom and chicken Jalapeño pies. All of them are amazing in flavors particularly because the quality of the dough is flaky, and baked fresh. The quality of the meat is stellar. All the meat is juicy and tender. The curry pies are the customer favorites but for me the taste was a bit too strong. However I loved the mushroom meat pies and the chicken jalapeño pies. The chicken jalapeño is very spicy so fair warning but it’s very tasty. And the steak and mushroom pie feels like a British classic pie. Overall I recommend coming here. The owners are passionate about their business. They even offer freezer packaged pies so it was nice to purchase a few and save them for later!

Google
My love of pastries from childhood is being fulfilled coming to your restaurant!! Lamb Curry Pie was the first pie I tried. The pie was spiced to perfection! Chicken & mushroom pie came second. I was astounded at the perfect ratio of chunks of chicken and mushroom to the sauce. Perfect crusts that were light and crispy. I’ve also had the Vegetarian Samosa a few times. Filling is very tasty with a crunchy outer crust.

Yelp
Came here because my fellow Yelper friend wanted to check this place out. Wow this place has a 5 star rating, impressed. According to there website: "Zimbabwean-natives-turned-Houstonians bring a mouthwatering indo-african delicacy to life, savory pies! Hailing from Bulawayo's favorite pie shop, "Oriental Takeaways," 2 Phat Bastard Pies are a product of a bromance between two reunited immigrant families that share the simple goal of spreading happiness, one scrumptious pie at a time." Service- when we arrived at the kiosk the young server that rang us up told us that it was a family operation, which I love. His mom/dad were in the baking makes the pies as we ordered. They were all smiles and happy to share there favorites on the menu. They told us to come back and let us know how the pie was, which we did. Food- it did take a while, we walked around while waiting. But I don't mind a wait if it means straight from the oven food. I got the chicken curry, it's definitely got some kick to it, came out nice and hot. It is indeed very flaky. The chicken was just a touch dry for me, but that's my only complaint really. And that's based on my taste comfort only. She got the paneer and lamb pie, which she enjoyed. We didn't get offered any sauces but my friend went back and got all 3. The fries sauce was yummy. Love a mom/pop business and the service was 5 star. Wishing this business well.

Yelp
We went to Stesi on a weekday for dinner and it was dead. But we came with one goal in mind: to try Phat Bastard Pies--and we did just that. These pies are made fresh, so don't expect them to come out in five minutes. That said, they're absolutely worth the wait. We ordered the beef curry and chicken curry pies. A little detail I loved--the lady who brought them out pointed out the "C" and "B" baked into the crust to tell which was which. The crust itself was awesome: buttery, golden, thick, and flaky. When we cut into them, they were steaming hot! Flavor-wise, I honestly couldn't pick a favorite. The chicken had more of a flavor punch, but the beef was hearty and homey in the best way. One pie is definitely enough for a meal. So happy to hear they've already moved (or are moving) to The Post--hoping the new location gets them more visibility and the foot traffic they deserve.

Yelp
Cheeky name aside, 2 Phat Bastard Pies has established their reputation as one of the best options at Stesi Food Hall (#1) and certainly among the most unique businesses in Houston. Hailing from Zimbabwe, the owners are childhood best friends who reunited in Houston, and made it their mantra to offer Indo-African inspired savory meat pies. This place is a must try for anyone and everyone who finds themselves in Midtown. Meat pies are a staple in Zimbabwe, many of which could be confused for empanadas in the Americas. They seem more aesthetically pleasing here, with a flaky, delicate, and texture-laden crust. Since every pie is made to order, a little patience goes a long way and the piping hot, freshly made end product is a thing of beauty. My personal favorite is their lamb curry ($13), which packs some good heat with nice chunky bits of tender lamb and plenty of gravy. I also have a fondness for their chicken curry ($12) and the spinach paneer ($12), which are both extremely tasty with the latter being super veggie friendly. The pepper steak has a nice kick to it and is packed with a good amount of beefy goodness. Their chicken and/or vegetable samoosas are always a good thing. The gentlemen who steer this ship are some of the nicest people I've met. They're friendly, welcoming, and have always made excellent suggestions for what to eat, despite how small and simple the menu is. I've never gone away disappointed and I imagine the same would bode for anyone who comes here to eat. I think folks who are looking for a casual but filling option and something fairly unique than the average food stall option, then this is a spot that can't be missed. ___________ (#1) https://www.yelp.com/biz/stest%C3%AD-food-hall-and-beer-garden-houston

Yelp
Just...WOW! I don't know that I have words. We are in Houston from out of town and visited POST, and were looking for something different for lunch in the food hall. Boy did we pick the right place!! This food was AMAZING. So flavorful. So delicious. The chicken jalapeño pie and the chicken curry pie were spectacular...and the chicken samoosa's.... Can't recommend this place enough!

Yelp
This is an Uber Eats order review: I order online. I read reviews on Yelp and it seemed like a restaurant that wouldn't let me down and it didn't! I got the vegetable curry pie. Oh when I saw my mouth was in party mode. All the flavors, so savory, creamy. The crust was so buttery and soft. Wow, wow, wow. I was a little apprehensive about paying $15 for a vegetable pie - but I am wholly satisfied. That pie was a MEAL! And a delicious one at that. I can't speak to the ambiance or service, but the meal was so satisfying that I can only imagine the rest of the stars would line up accordingly. 5/5 for me. At least for the vegetable curry pie

Amanda S.

Yelp
The pies here are excellent! I tried the chicken jalapeno pie and it was wonderful! I'll be back Sunday to try the steak and mushroom and the lamb. This place is definitely a 10 out of 10. Also the pies are so flaky and tasty. I love the food
google avatar

Guadalupe R.

Yelp
My pie was so good! It was fresh, flaky, and so flavorful. I loved the little V they put on it to mark it as the vegetable pie. Gotta go back to try the spinach paneer pie!
google avatar

Brittany M.

Yelp
My family and I ordered the lamb, chicken jalapeño, and chicken mushroom pies to go. We loved the pies. Each one was a handheld flavor bomb. Very thicc and filling however my only issue is that I'm a softie when it comes to spice and the lamb pie was SPICY. A girl needs a bit of warning. The lamb was spicer than the chicken jalapeño but no where online did it say it was spicy. The person taking our order was very accommodating and made sure our food was hot and fresh when we got it.
google avatar

Zachary N.

Yelp
Great food, great service. It took about 20 minutes for my food to come out, but i was not dissatisfied. The person helping me and taking my order was very nice and welcoming. The lamb curry pie was so good, but it does have a little kick which honestly makes it that much better for me.

Yelp
I have never eaten a meat pie, unless you count the Stouffer's pot pie that Gen X'ers grew up on. But let's face it, that's not real food so that stuff doesn't count anyway. On a whim, I presented my husband with ordering from 2 Phat Bastards, and surprisingly he agreed (he is picky, so I thought he would veto this suggestion immediately). Because it's cold and rainy, we did an Uber Eats order, which can be hit or miss if the food cools down. Will it taste as good if someone drives it to me versus me eating it in person? The order was ready and picked up quickly, and delivery was fast, too. Upon arrival, I found the pies to all be nice and hot. The crust was flaky and delicious, and definitely worthy of a Sunday cheat meal. I ordered the chicken curry, husband ordered the pepper steak, and we opted to split the chicken jalapeño. Let me tell you the chicken curry was spicy!! It was delicious and I was happy for my selection ... until I tasted the chicken jalapeño. Something about the sauce the chicken jalapeño was mixed with was so delicious! And while it was also spicy, it had a different kick to the spice. This was literally my favorite. I even tried a bite of the pepper steak and it was good but I definitely enjoyed the chicken pies better. I cannot speak to the ambiance but I definitely want to stop by and try this place in person. I can only imagine that the pies are even better when they are served there.

Yelp
This locates in conservatory food hall. Food is OK, lots of meat inside but a bit too salty for me. Portion wise is not big.
google avatar

Kevin Q.

Yelp
Absolutely loved 2 Phat Bastard Pies! They make the pies from scratch (I know because I was standing there watching them after I ordered) and you can taste the difference--super bomb flavor and a perfectly golden, flaky crust. You can tell there's a lot of care in each one. If you're a pie fan, this place is a must-visit.

Yelp
Super nice employees and the food is so good!!!! I stumbled across this place while at the food hall and I love meat pies so I had to give it a try. I ended up going with the beef mushroom meat pie cause they said all the curry ones were pretty spicy. It takes about 20 minutes to bake but it was so hearty and filling!!! Big chunks of meat and the filling was so flavorful. I would def like to come back to try their other meat pies! Highly recommend if you're in the area!
google avatar

Sherri H.

Yelp
I love meat pies so I was so excited when this place opened in midtown! I really liked how they flavored the meat since it was full of spices and the pastry was perfectly flakey without being oily. It takes 20 mins for them to make it so try to pre-order! The price is a steep since it's a food hall but they have a lunch special which includes a fries and a drink! Parking: It's typical midtown parking so it's best to come here during a slow period.

Yelp
Chicken curry pie - 8.5/10 - $12 - Everything was made fresh. The bread was like a puff pastry and was crispy. Chicken was flavorful but i thought there was too much gravy inside the pie. Overall a solid and unique spot for halal savory pies, i would wanna try their other flavors but it's overpriced for the portion in my opinion.
google avatar

Davi D.

Yelp
Amazing food, great people and awesome stories are in store for you if you decide to try these pies! I got the lamb curry pie and the beef curry pie. Both pies were great in their respective ways. The dough is cooked to golden brown, each pie is made to order and the conversations with the owners while waiting for my food was amazing. I will forever be a customer to this place. Anytime I'm in Houston I will be trying to get some of these.

Yelp
I absolutely love this little pie shop located inside the Conservatory Food Hall. They totally follow through on their premise: you get fat pies, generously stuffed with meat or whatever else you get. It's a bit pricy but it feels worth it -- their pies are made to order and like I said, they're big and filled to the brim. I've tried 3 kinds so far and honestly, each one was better than the last! The chicken/mushroom, chicken curry, and lamb curry. It's hard to pick a favorite but maybe the lamb curry. The lamb was so tender and flavorful! It's a bit spicy but not overwhelmingly so. Salty though but I like that. The crust is PERFECT. Flaky but not greasy. Just amazing in every way. Couldn't recommend this spot more. One of my new favorites.
google avatar

MariaElena Z.

Yelp
Food: The layered crust was exactly what I expected and how I like it. I ordered the curry chicken pie for myself and it was filled with delicious chunks of curried chicken. Sooo good!!! My son had the lamb pie which he thoroughly enjoyed savoring every single bite with a smile on his face LOL!!! 2PBP now has 2 new customers for sure. Service: This is always a make it or break it for me and 2PBP did not disappoint. I called after placing my order and the gentleman that answered the phone was curteous, professional, helpful, and kind. All of this goes a long way for me. Atmosphere: I haven't been there yet but after my first experience, my son and I will be visiting soon.

Yelp
This place is such a gem. Hidden in the Conservatory on midtown, it was easy to get wrapped in conversation with the gentleman serving. The chicken curry pie was so flaky and delicious, but watch out it has a bite to it! The veggie samosas with the chutney selections were equally crispy and savory. I really enjoyed my treats from here.
google avatar

Yelp
Short and sweet. It is amazing! Two gentlemen making meat pies you will dream about. I will tonight. Steak, chicken, lamb and veg. Indo/African gem that will make you wonder WHY is meat pies not killing it in the US. Try these. You will be converted. Thanks boys. Great meeting you and we wish you nothing but the best. Delicious-a!
google avatar

Sarah W.

Yelp
A hidden gem! The meat pies are delicious with a hearty filling and flaky crust. You will not be hungry after eating 1 meat pie, and could even split one for a lighter snack or if having other food items. The staff were very kind and helpful. Great spot!
google avatar

Lynn M.

Yelp
Got the jalapeño chicken pie: it was very flavorful and crispy. Will definitely be back to try more!
google avatar

Prithvi P.

Yelp
Tried this place along with the speciality pie for first time and all I can say I was not disappointed. It's a new different cuisine but the flavors come out delicious and they are baked to perfection specially biting on its crust. I will definitely try some of the other pies along with Samosas which are on the menu! Lovely owner/staff as well as we discussed about the history and culture of these pies :)
google avatar

Gourav D.

Yelp
Phenomenal food and service. Super friendly staff. Ambience is alright, but it's in a food hall so who cares!! You're there for the food.

M C.

Yelp
Perfect pastry and moist, incredible fillings for the world class meat pies! The chicken samosas were a must with finely minced chicken. Alot of heat here, except for the chicken mushroom. Definitely worth the price with the amount of filling. We ordered a dozen so we could fill the freezer. I will let them know next time since they vacuum pack. Incredible!

San W.

Yelp
Lamb curry was out of this world good. We're coming back to try more options! Service was really sweet & friendly!
google avatar

Sameet R.

Yelp
The chicken mushroom and chicken jalapeño pies were delicious. I think the jalapeño peppers was much better. Highly recommend ordering ahead of you want to grab and go because it takes 15-20 min to bake the pies. The conservatory is fairly new, so there aren't as many options in there yet, but parking there is quite complicated in the evenings. There is parking up front but it's limited.

Jon V.

Yelp
A very rare five star rating! Look, this is not haute cuisine - it's a pie shop in a food court - but if you're in the market for a freshly made pie in Houston, this is the place to go. There are nowhere near enough savory pies anywhere in the US, so this is a very welcome addition to the culinary landscape. Of course, it's taken two foreigners to pull this off - transplants from Zimbabwe - and their pies are amazing. Friendly and functional service. There are some other neat places in the food court - try them out as well.
google avatar

Zain A.

Yelp
Delicious halal Zimbabwean pot pies with a variety of different flavors. Chicken jalapeño was on point whereas pepper steak was decent but wish it was dry steak strips instead of saucy meat chunks. Looking forward to trying the curried options next time!

David J.

Yelp
Very good and authentic and the crust was out of site . I will be definitely going back .
google avatar

Yelp
Heard there were now meat pies in Houston and RAN over! It is in midtown, so parking was a pain in the ass, but I'm glad I finally got to check out the Conservatory (ie. fancy name for a small food hall). The restaurant is owned by two lovely Zimbabwean gentlemen. They were incredibly friendly, sweet, and kind. I ordered a lamb curry pie, which was my favorite growing up back home. They baked me a fresh one, so it was still hot when I ate it at home. It was a tad bit salty even for this salt-loving girl, but still delicious. I really felt like I could taste the love in the food, weirdly, which is not something I say often. I will definitely be back to try their steak pie and samosas!
google avatar

Michelle H.

Yelp
We love Indian and Pakistan food! So samosas caught my attention when I looked through the menu. I ordered chicken samosas and they were absolutely delicious! One of the best I've had! Everything was delicious and we definitely will be back!

Yelp
Had the pleasure of trying this the other day! The food is baked to order and is absolutely phenomenal. Can't go wrong with the Jalapeno Chicken or the Lamb Curry. The owners provided excellent customer service. This place is a must try if you are a fan of savory pies!
google avatar

Laura H.

Yelp
Most flaky and delicious crust I've ever had. I got the chicken mushroom pie. The chicken was moist and tender. Loaded with tasty mushrooms...a definite must try. My husband got the lamb curry pie had the same review for the crust. The gravy and lamb were full bodied and savory. Very friendly staff. We will return!
google avatar

Heidi M.

Yelp
Oh goodness. The pies are so freaking delish. The owners are onsite and interacting with clients. I love going here when I want a bit from home Them having stoneys and cream soda is a major plus.
google avatar

Noey J.

Yelp
I had the lamb curry pie and it was amazing! I was hooked after the first bite. So flaky. So flavorful. It has a nice kick to it. I want to try every pie now.

Agustin Z.

Yelp
We experienced their pastries at the woodlands farmers market and I was so impressed on how flavorful the fillings were and how the pastry was so perfect. We had the chicken curry and chicken and mushrooms. I will definitely visit their restaurant in midtown to try some of their other creations.

Olivia M.

Yelp
Run, don't walk! Friends sent us here after they went this weekend and we'll be coming back asap. Took us a second to find it because it's in a small food hall but is right by Dave's Hot Chicken. Owners were very friendly and clearly passionate about their food. Gave us a free sticker which was sweet. Food was very fresh with great attention to detail. Would reorder everything. Very clean environment but we didn't have time to dine in so took it to-go. Pies were still warm and not soggy at all. Probably would hold up for short delivery. Vegetable samosas -- flaky, seasoned well. Star is the fresh chutney. Would buy the chutney in a bottle, not kidding. On par with what you can get in Hilcroft flavor-wise so we were impressed. Not oily as samosas sometimes can be. Spinach and paneer pie -- perfectly seasoned saag paneer but in a light and flaky pot pie. I'm not a huge pot pie person so was expecting the filling to be just alright, but it could really stand on its own. Mild-moderate spice was perfect for me. Lamb pie -- this was my boyfriend's and he ate it all before I could I could try some but he loved it. Said it was one of the best pot pie's he's had and would get again. He thought it was a little spicy (still good) but he likes food on the milder end.

Maii S.

Yelp
I LOVE IT HERE! The food is delicious and fresh each time! The customer service is spectacular and since this place is located inside the conservatory food hall the seating is also very spacious. && it's halal!! I got the fries and chicken samosas and the fries are absolutely amazing from their crispiness to the sauce their served with and the spice powder their tossed in. Everything is LOVELY.

Yelp
DELICIOUS pies, truly wonderful friendly service, highly recommend 2 Phat Bastard Pies

Pam S.

Yelp
As a Brit who was raised on pies of every kind I was delighted to encounter Phat Bastard Pies last night. Their pies are perfection. Delicious pastry crammed with meat. I had the steak & mushroom pie and my friend had the lamb curry pie both were delicious. Fried cooked to perfection and staff could not have been nicer. This is going to be a regular stop for me when I am in the midtown.

Mack P.

Yelp
Don't miss the opportunity for a taste treat near Downtown Houston. 2 Phat Bastard Pies are Zimbabwean-natives turned Houstonians that are bringing a mouthwatering Indo-African delicacy to Texas in the form of savory pies. These are authentic meat pies that are guaranteed to bring you back for more. Theirs is a recipe that is real food and real good. There are lots of flavors to try. These gentlemen know food and know how to make it yummy.

Minette G.

Yelp
Wonderful pies the best I have eaten in a long time, Owen's are very nice and kind . As South-African it takes us back home the taste was delicious One of our favorite places for pies
google avatar

Aarti P.

Yelp
I had the vegetable samosas and the spinach pie. It was so good and the chutney was just perfect. Highly recommend getting those two!!

Yelp
Their food is absolutely delicious. They have vegetarian options and are so accommodating and friendly. I really enjoyed the family and familiar ambiance of the establishment. Will visit again!

Yelp
The chicken curry pie is AMAZING!!! I've even purchased frozen ones to gift to friends. So, so good.

Sejal G.

Yelp
So happy that 2 Phat Bastard Pies opened an actual location. Literally my favorite savory pies. Check them out! My favorite pie is the Chicken Curry Pie

Linling Z.

Yelp
A great family owned business, the lamb and beef curry pies are to die for, one pie will completely satisfy you.
