Where to Eat in New Orleans’s Algiers Point Neighborhood

"This vegan cafe is downright awesome, with fresh ingredients, generous portions and salads that are a work of art. Try the “VegOut” house salad — spring lettuce loaded with seasonal veggies, in a generous portion that’s plenty for two. 2 Phat Vegans declares itself on a mission to bring healthier options to the community, without sacrificing a bit of flavor. The Sunday gumbo is proof enough." - Beth D'Addono

The food, atmosphere, and service are excellent. I got a chicken sandwich, brownie with icecream, hot sausage po boy, fries and fruit punch. The fries were seasoned well and good. The hot sausage po boy is the BEST vegan sandwich I've had. I should have had 2 or 3 of them. There were shirts and bracelets that could be purchased. I loved that there were books and games in the establishment. It was family friendly. I loved the culture that I felt with the restaurant. I would definitely return. This is one of my top 3 vegans restaurants.

Ummm…wow! I ordered the Vegan Hot Sausage PoBoy and I knew I was in love after the first bite! I can’t remember the last time I had a sandwich this good. It’s got a kick to it but it won’t burn your face off. Did I mention how big this sandwich was?! I think it’s a foot long. You will be full when you’re done. It goes so well with sweet tea. The service here is great and the owner is super friendly. They have an outdoor seating area that’s really nice and an inside dining room as well.

I love the black bean burger and sweet potato fries. The taste is flavorful and consistent. There’s plenty of parking. it’s a nice quiet neighborhood right off of Gen Meyer Ave.. The owner is usually there.

My husband who is vegan has been waiting to get here and finally did. When I say OMG...I'm now on the road to veganhood due to this place. The food is spot on and tatse no different from the original. Give it a try..trust me!!!

The bag on the left contained eggplant slices. They were absolutely delicious once I waded thru and blotted all the grease! The bag on the right contained fried mushrooms. They were delicious but were waaay too salty. So much salt that it burned my throat. I used the sauce from the fried eggplant slices to offset the saltiness of the mushrooms. I still couldn’t eat but 2 or 3 mushrooms without gagging from the salt. I will try them again soon. I used Uber Eats to deliver my order.

Hot sausage poboy was bomb! I was there at off hours so it was quiet and small. I’d like to check it out when they have live music

Amazing atmosphere and you can feel the love from the food straight from the staff. Ms. Trinelle is an absolute delight. Highly recommend stopping in to get some tasty food and feeling some love. Thank you!

I was looking forward to their sweet potato fries, but when I approached the counter, they informed me that they didn't make them there, when I could clrealy see it on the menu. I brushed it off and ordered a vegan pizza. The cashier spoke softly and was inattentive when I was ordering as she was on her phone. When I recieved the pizza, the cheese wasn't even melted all the way. Highly disappinted. Nothing stood out for me to want to come back to this establishment.

Yelp
I've eaten here twice and they've knocked it out of the park both times. It's small inside, so no large parties but I believe they have an outdoor patio - I haven't eaten there out there yet but it's cute! Regarding "That Guy's" remarks about slow service, whenever I order they tell me exactly how long it will be until my food is ready. They make it to order and it hasn't disappointed yet, so it's worth the wait. Go to a random fast food restaurant if you want that, don't put down a local business because you were in a hurry. Btw, I have ordered the mushroom po'boy both times (recommend!!) and am looking forward to trying something different on my next visit (the hot sausage po'boy maybe!).

Yelp
Let me start by saying I'm not a vegan and it's been a long time since I've had a hot sausage sandwich. Today that wait is over!!! My son recommended this place and it did not disappoint. We were greeted by a nice friendly guy and the place had a good vibe. Let's talk about the hot sausage po' boy!! It tasted like old times and brought me on a trip down memory lane. The pattie was good, spicy and full of flavor. The french bread was toasted, just how I like it. Of course I got it fully dressed... iykyk. The only thing missing was a pineapple Big Shot. I will be back to try some other items off the menu. Sorry no pictures because it didn't make it home.

Yelp
Holy crap slow. I don't know how they can remain in business. There was nobody in the place and I was floored how long I waited for a sandwich. I think the only way you can patron this place is by ordering delivery. I can't explain.enough how long it took. It was insane.

Yelp
Tasty vegan sandwiches and wraps, I had the crabby patty served as a wrap. My husband had the Vegan Hot Sausage PoBoy and we shared the huge serving of fries he ordered. We got the chocolate chip cookies to go! Nice inside dining and the owner was friendly. Good food, we left stuffed!

Yelp
I've only been vegan for a few days, but this is the first time I've been full since I started. I could not stop eating even though the plan going in was to save half of it for lunch tomorrow. We got the Bass Burger which features an impossible patty and we got one of the bean burgers. I'm not a bean burger fan, but it tasted good. We cut it in half to reveal whole beans which leads me to believe that they are made in-house. I finished the Bass Burger. Both were on different kinds of buns. This attention to detail I really appreciated. The fries and fried mushrooms were delightful. Perfect seasoning on both. The mushrooms came with an herbaceous mayo-ketchup house made sauce. Their portions were GENEROUS. I couldn't stop popping either into my mouth even after I said I was done. My favorite parts of the meal were the gumbo and the pecan chocolate chip cookies. Can we say 'umami?' Because baybeeee, that gumbo had the sixth sense. The 2 "meat" varieties in it had the texture and taste of real meat. I felt like I was eating a "normal" gumbo. The cookie was hands down one of my favorites. As someone who loves sweets, but not sugar (if that makes sense), I loved how unsweet it was. The service was divine. Corey the owner was so welcoming. He offered to serve us our gumbo and cookies as we waited for our takeout. This we happily accepted. He's also a community leader in his own right, hosting events like yoga on Saturdays in their nice patio and having performances and talks in the cozy dining area. And the inside is adorable. The ambience really made me want to sit and stay for a while.

Yelp
Yes. Get there for the vegans and try the fruit punch, hot sausage and jerk chicken wrap.

Yelp
Five stars all the way. The food is absolutely amazing; I've been wanting a poboy since we arrived here in Nola, but until we visited 2 Phat Vegans I haven't found anything I could eat. The sausage poboy at 2 Phat is so good I'd be willing to cross the river again to have another one. My wife got the jerk chick'n wrap and, believe it or not, hers was even better than my sandwich was. They fed us so much that we couldn't even finish the side of fried okra we split. The owner was super friendly and easy going, and the ambiance was simply and homey -- like visiting a friend's house. This one is absolutely worth going out of your way for.

Yelp
Super, super slow service and super slow to make the food. Waited 45 minutes for just a burger, and no other customers were in the restaurant. No appetizers (fries, mushrooms, okra, etc.) were available. Could not pay in cash because they had no way to make change. All the tables were dirty, and I had to clean my own to sit and eat. The floor looked like it hadn't been swept or mopped in days. The two young guys behind the counter had zero sense of urgency and didn't seem to want to be there. The burger itself was dry, had no seasoning, very little sauce, and was cooked in a convection oven. Too slow, bland, and dirty to even think about visiting again.

Yelp
I'm a part time vegan but the food here will make you think that you're not eating vegan food I go here every chance I get. The vegan hot sausage poboy it the truth

Yelp
I called to place an order and they were so nice over the phone. The service was even better once there in person. Quickly received the food that was made to order. Omg! The wrap was amazing! The cookies were so delicious as well. Highly recommend.

Gyrell G.

Yelp
3/10, jerk chicken wrap was very wet and sloppy. The flavor of the crispy pieces that didn't fall apart has a decent flavor though. Thin fried zucchini tasted horrible because it was cooked in old grease so it was not crispy at all.

Thomas T.

Yelp
Food was excellent. We had jerk chicken wraps and a hot sausage po boy. Great service, cool little restaurant

Yelp
Great staff! Amazing "Sausage Po-Boy"!! I guarantee if you are a meat eater this vegan sandwich will surprise you!

Yelp
The food here is so good! We had the jerk chik'n and the meatball sub - both 100% vegan - and you'd never know you weren't eating meat. We could tell that they take a lot of care in the preparation of the meal. The restaurant is really cute, there are board games to play, and everybody was really nice. It is the kind of place I'll miss when I'm back home, and can't wait to return --thank you!!

Yelp
I am not a vegan but the sandwich's at this place is my favorite go to. The vegan Jerk Chicken Wrap is amazing. This place is also the only place that you can get a vegan hot sausage poyboy

Shannon S.

Yelp
that hot sausage is fire ....as in delicious (for those of you...not from nola)!!! everything is fresh and delish...every time.

Geneka G.

Yelp
We got there and the feeling was off, but we decided to order appetizers anyway, just because we were there. I got the fried mushrooms and fries. After I ordered another guy came in and ordered the fries and asked they be made well done. I knew then they were serving half done potatoes. Boy was I right. The fries were so soppy and wet with grease, so were the mushrooms. They were all hot and fresh, but it took 40 minutes to get them and we were the first order there.

Yelp
Great food! Good service and always good vibes when picking up grub from this spot! Highly recommended, not just for vegans but anyone wanting to eat something good!

Noah B.

Yelp
DELICIOUS!! If you're a tourist, this place is worth the Uber ride!! A small local place with delicious locally inspired VEGAN FOOD!!

Yelp
Did they not give me my order and I had hair in my food and the customer service is bad

Tyree D.

Yelp
The food was great we had jerk Chicken Wrap, hot Sausage PoBoy, and Mushroom PoBoy. My favorite was the Wrap by far. Flavor was on point. Recommend it no Questions. It was dripping flavor, literally. Owner making everything himself so give him sometime. Worth the wait for sure.

Yelp
Let me start by saying I am not vegan! This restaurant could make me reconsider. We had two dishes, the jerk chic'un wrap and the chic pea of the sea. Both were delicious. The chic pea of the sea is better than any tuna sandwich you could have and has the right amount of everything. I ate with crackers but it would also be good as poboy. The jerk chic'un wrap reminded me of being at the Sandals resort in Jamaica. It was spicy and had the extra mango salsa kick that takes this over the top. I didn't think I would like vegan cheese, but melted in this wrap it was creamy and delicious. Great texture all around and good filling meal. Highly recommend to vegans and non vegans alike. This place is a winner.
