I have stayed at the Inn for more than a decade with my friends and family, but was very disappointed in my most recent trip there. The breakfast offerings were limited and did not seem fresh. The guest bathroom off the lobby was FILTHY. More than any of this, the staff (with the exception of Kat) were not at all warm or welcoming. They were curt, did not make eye contact, and kept cigarettes visible on the counter. A simple request to turn off bright patio lights to improve sleep went unneeded. The cheese biscuits we requested were hidden away in the kitchen. When my friends and I asked for the owner's info, we eventually got an email address fir the manager a week or two later. My thoughtful email aimed at improving one of my favorite places did not even merit a reply. Given all of this, I have sadly concluded I can no longer enjoy the Inn. The value (it was $800 for a weekend) is just not there any more and apparently they don't care.

First the plus side of this inn|Comfortable and clean rooms|Friendly staff|Location is excellent |Back patio with fireplace ||Negatives of this inn|Not enough parking for guests|Noise level is outstanding- foot noise from rooms above, ac unit, and OMG the train that runs behind the inn twice during the middle of the night||If you are a light sleeper then might have to think about staying here|We were in Room 3. Lovely room.|Along with all that noise, the ice machine |Is right outside room 3 so you hear people getting ice, which they did at 11pm!!!||Breakfast is very continental, meaning very basic. |The baked banana bread, pumpkin bread and oatmeal cookies were delicious. |The evening cheeses and crackers were very good too

I've been to 200 South Street on three separate occasions, and they definitely won't be my last. Everything is top-notch here - from the welcome experience with fresh oatmeal chocolate cookies at any time of day, the walk to your room, the wine and cheese happy hour, and, the gourmet breakfast with outdoor seating. Don't forget the outdoor fireplace and patio. The accomodations are great - the beds are comfortable. And if something needs adjusting, they will try to do it. Keep in mind they are older houses - the AC is a little noisy, the furniture and bathrooms are rustic. It all works. We didn't get in the car all weekend until it was time to meet friends at Jefferson Winery. Fantastic experience. Oh, and they upgraded our room when the weekend wasn't busy - it was our 10-year-anniversary and such a nice treat. Great place, highly recommend!

Google
A warm welcome, a large room ( nr 8 ) and old-fashioned bathroom. The main building (we did not enter the others) is a bit dated but has charm. The wine and cheese is great, the breakfast offered nice banana bread - and The Washington Post - thank you ! In colder months, when you cannot sit outside for breakfast, there are possibly not enough tables. Fabulous collection of books. |We were there for one of the first cold nights of the year, and the heating in our room kicked in around 1:40 am. Made noise like a lawnmower ... The staff took note the next morning, and we hope they will tell future guests to unplug the (old) unit when turning in ... |Despite that incident, we can recommend the Inn.

I picked this place after reading Google reviews, and it was a wonderful place to stay for a night. Nice curbside appeal with a beautiful wrap around porch and well landscaped front & back yard. The room was clean, and the common areas were nice. The wine and cheese hour was lovely— could have a little more, but still a treat. The continental breakfast was good, but you will need to go into town for something heartier. The backyard area had nice seating and a fireplace- was hoping they would turn on the lights strung around at night. Overall a solid choice and I hope to go back again!

Google
This place is fantastic. The staff are lovely and the rooms are gorgeous. I even had a little footstool for my teddy bear. The breakfast was great. Real food, not like many hotel breakfasts. And the wine and cheese in the library as delightful. I left a necklace in the room I was in, so contacted the hotel later that day. They found it and mailed it to me promptly. I've been back for only a week (I live in another country) and the necklace was in my mailbox today. I would go back to this place in a heartbeat.

This is a lovely old home that has been made into a comfortable, cozy B&B. Homemade continental breakfast offerings are fresh and delicious each morning. Complimentary wine and cheese is served in the library each afternoon. |We loved our stay however, be aware that you are in an urban area that makes for easy walking to many places but if you want total quiet, look elsewhere.|A special thank you 👍🏻 to Carolyn, our afternoon hostess. She is a charming asset to this place. Many thanks.

Quiet, spacious room. Fantastic location only 1 block from the pedestrian mall and next door to South Street Brewery. Friendly, courteous staff. Excellent off-street parking. Very nice happy hour and continental breakfast. Love this place,

Yelp
We loved our stay. The most friendly and accommodating staff we've met while traveling. The lit the fireplaces for us, the heat lamps outside. Offered wine n cheese early since we had to leave for early dinner reservations. Carried our bags up. Recommended great places to go. Chatted with us...you get the point. A block or 2 to the pedestrian mall which was our main priority. Very convenient location. Delicious little breakfast in the morning and wine n cheese in the late afternoon. Old but you should have an idea of what you're booking if you look on the website Yes, there was a train. We heard it, but not enough of a nuisance to make me change my rating maybe because we live in New York City and are used to noise.

Yelp
I stayed here recently while a weekend away in Charlottesville. From the moment I stepped onto this property the manager and front desk associate were super friendly and helpful and were throughout my stay. First night I missed the wine & cheese happy hour and the associate gave me some wine. He didn't have to but I would say overall I haven't had great customer service like this in a long time. The reason I give this place 5 stars is because how they handled an unfortunate situation. The first night I noticed the shower didn't have hot water rather room temp. Not the worst shower but for the cold weather hot water would've been a dream. I addressed it and they were working on it. Found out the next day that they needed a new water pump for the heater and it wouldn't be in until Monday and the next night the water was freezing cold. However, they more than comped me for the issue and they set it up to where guests could at least shower at a local gym. I feel they did more than major chains would do without any asking. My only issue was the bed was a little hard for my taste but the room was cozy and a great size for a solo traveler and I felt safe. Plus daily free continental breakfast and cheese and cracker happy hour was a pleasant treat. I would stay here again and highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Convenient to downtown Charlottesville. Within walking distance to many fine restaurants and entertainment venues. Very nice accommodations and attentive staff. Wine and cheese for happy hour and the breakfast was perfect- homemade granola, sweet breads, fruit and yogurt were awesome!!!! We always stay here when visiting Charlottesville and are never disappointed. :-)

Yelp
I did not stay in this Inn in February but in the summertime. I will state that it was one of the worst lodgings I've experienced in the United States and obscenely overpriced.

Yelp
I recently stayed at this charming inn for one night while in Charlottesville. The location is great if you want to be close to downtown. Just minutes away on foot! I was in room 22 located in the cottage next to the main building where you check in. My favorite part of the room was the whirlpool bathtub! I rarely indulge in baths but I couldn't resist... Besides that, the bedroom was cozy but as others mention, you're near the train tracks so it may not be ideal for light sleepers! They have a wine and cheese hour, as well as complimentary breakfast which I left too early to enjoy. The staff was super friendly the whole time I was there, even allowing me to check in a tad early since my room was ready. I would definitely consider staying here again when I'm in the area!

Yelp
We stayed for 5-nights for our daughter's wedding week. The parents of the groom, the priest, the best men-brothers, groom's buddy and bride's aunt and uncle all stayed, along with bride and groom. EVERYTHING was wonderful. Cannot possibly say enough nice/glowing things about the staff! The ambiance is wonderful (I love older hotels/inns in general) the rooms were great. Everything is well maintained and clean. You do have to be careful what you ask about, because if you need a cord or plug, they'll go home and bring one back (Thanks, Charlie)! Seriously, they all bent over backwards to make you feel at home. And, yes, I read comments about the train. No one in our group seemed to be bothered by it. And the location is convenient to a lot of venues. I'd stay there again without hesitation, in fact, it would be hard to get me to stay anywhere else unless they were booked solid.

Yelp
I had no idea this Inn existed in Charlottesville. When I needed to stay, I stumbled upon it and wanted to experience it instead of a standard hotel with zero charm. The reservation process was great. All electronic. E-mail reminders. Easy peasy. Check-in was a snap. My room was on the third floor. That was a bit awkward since there is no elevator, only stairs, but I'm a strong gal and can lug a suitcase. Luckily I wasn't wearing heels. My room (11) was great. Standard amenities that hotels have, with all of the charm of an old Inn complete with worn wood floors. I don't think the heat worked, or at the very least, I couldn't figure out how to get it on. And no, I didn't bother to call the front desk. I easily could have. I just added a blanket at night when it got cold. I think people have complained about the bed, but I loved it. Nice and firm. Continental breakfast in the mornings, wine and cheese in the evenings. Fruit all day. It almost feels like you're staying in the house with a big family. They leave the doors open to the rooms that aren't being rented, so you can take a peek inside to see what they look like. Really nice. And they're all different! Great location just two blocks from the downtown mall. Steps away from great restaurants. Good amount of parking. My only complaint is the train. It. Is. Loud. And the first night, it came at 12:30 a.m. I don't know if it came in the middle of the other two nights I was there. I slept so hard. But that first night was a bit frustrating. And it seemed to last forever. Still, I kinda dig the train, too. Makes the place feel more authentic... Did there used to be a stop nearby and this was the first place people stopped to lodge? I'd definitely stay again. Cool spot. Friendly service.

Yelp
We had an absolutely fabulous stay at 200 South Street Inn over Memorial Day weekend! We stayed in Room 22 in the cottage which is the building across the driveway from the main house. Room 22 is located on the second floor, has a queen size bed, and a whirlpool bathtub in their largest bathroom. The air conditioning worked well and was not noisy at all. The bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom was extremely spacious. They provided branded soap, conditioner, shampoo, and lotion, and even had a hair dryer in the bathroom, just like a hotel. There is also maid service if you want new towels, etc. Free parking could be found in their parking lot. If you have to park on Sunday or a holiday, all the street parking and the metered lot across the street is free. Complimentary wifi was available not only in the room but also the library (where breakfast and wine/cheese were served) and the surrounding grounds. Check-in is from 2pm-9pm, but they are very accommodating if you need to check-in after 9pm. We tried to check-in a bit early, and since we hadn't had lunch yet, they suggested we grab a bite to eat, and by the time we came back our room would be ready. Meredith at the front desk was awesome! She gave us multiple suggestions on places to eat, vineyards to go to, and other stuff to do. When we told her we didn't have plans on Friday night, she told us about the free concert (Fridays after 5) at the amphitheater at the end of the pedestrian mall. She also told us about a popular food truck, South Fork, that, unfortunately, we did not have time to try out. The woman that prepares the food is wonderful as well! I was truly impressed with the food she made, and she even took the time to tell me how she made this chive-dill dip that was to die for! The front desk stays open until 9pm, and they always have a fruit bowl and their homemade chocolate chip oatmeal cookies for the taking! Every morning from 7:30AM-10:00 AM (10:30 on weekends) they have a continental breakfast available-fruit, toast, yogurt, cereal, juices, and coffee. The highlight of the breakfast each day was the various fruit breads, scones, and biscuits. The zesty lemon bread, banana nut bread, cheddar-dill biscuits, and maple pecan scones were my favorite items of indulgence! Each morning my boyfriend and I would eat our breakfast outside in the garden where there are several tables set up. Every evening from 5PM-6:30PM they served complimentary wine and assorted cheeses and crackers. Before we would go out for the night, we would always indulge in the wine and cheese on the wraparound porch outside. The cheese ranged from brie to horseradish dill to edam. It was always labeled too which was nice. The location could not be any better! South Street Brewery is located 2 doors down, and the pedestrian mall is a mere two blocks away. I don't have any other B&B's for comparison but this stay here totally blew me away! I was nervous at first because some people had told me they do not like B&B's because you are "forced" to interact with people you don't know, however, here, for the most part, everyone kept to themselves and did their own thing. We briefly talked to a couple from Pittsburgh, my hometown, but that was really the only interaction we had with other guests, and it wasn't awkward at all. A few families were there with little kids but it was mostly couples. Again, I have no price comparison but we stayed 2 nights and it was roughly close to $300 a night which is a bit steep but since this was a special trip, it was well worth it! We both immensely enjoyed everything about our stay and we hope to stay here again in the future!

Brad H.

Yelp
Lovely B&B in a great location. Our room downstairs was nicely furnished, quiet (except for a couple of trains at night), with a small but quite functional bath. The TV picked up every channel known to man so we were able to pick up the Clemson game which is an opportunity most places don't afford you. Comfortable fourpost bed... fireplace in the room.

Yelp
We enjoyed a midweek 3-night stay at the South Street Inn this July. The location is perfect, only two walking blocks from the downtown Pedestrian mall, lined with restaurants and shops! Plus, the location provides easy access to the main roads/highways to visit nearby Monticello, wineries, etc. Our room (17) was in the back of the adjacent house (The Cottage) and shared the private parking lot with the main house. The room was nicely decorated with a very large bathroom. While the room was clean, there are a few details that should be attended to in the future, because the room and buildings are showing a slight bit of wear and needs to be touched up, nothing major, but it's the attention to small details that set a 3-star B&B from a 5 star one. Several reviewers mentioned the noise from the trains as a detractor from this B&B. We did NOT find the noise to interfere with our stay or sleep. Yes, the trains did go by once or twice a day, but it was not that big of an issue. The two rooms in the back (17 & 18) share a private porch with couch and chairs. In addition to the private porch, all guests are permitted to use the large wrap around porch at the main house, inside common areas, and the back patio with tables. Complementary oatmeal chocolate chip cookies are available throughout the day at the main desk and are very tasty. Breakfast is available from 7:00-10:00 and is a nice continental breakfast consisting of various breads, homemade granola, yogurt, fruit, coffee, and juice. This was a nice change from most B&B's where breakfast is served at a specific time. Each morning we filled our plates and enjoyed our lite breakfast on the porch. In the evenings, they B&B hosts a wine and cheese hour offering several selections of both wine and cheese, all included as part of your stay. Overall, we were very pleased with our relaxing stay and as first time visitors to Charlottesville, I recommend the South Street Inn as the place to stay.

Kurt B.

Yelp
It is a great place, very conveniently located, and the people who operate the place are too nice. A good friend recommended this place and told me about some delicious cookies they keep at the front desk. The cookies are amazing but we liked our room even more. I would stay again even if there were no cookies. (please keep the cookies though)

Lauryn C.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my stay at 200 South Street Inn I just wish I was able to stay another night, but with UVA graduation this weekend there were no rooms left. If you are looking for a reasonably prices room in a B&B type environment that is walking distance to Downtown Mall, UVA etc. then this is your place. I stayed in room 11 and it was great. Large king bed, free WIFI, nice bathroom, decor etc. Let's not forget those giant chocolate chip cookies that greet you when you check in and the friendly staff. Lauren at the front desk was great to chat with about restaurants, sites, etc. in the area. They have wine & cheese from 5-6:30pm so awesome, plus a great way to meet some other folks staying at the inn. They also serve a continental breakfast in the morning, which I missed but I'm sure it was yummy. As others mentioned it can get noisy here. There is a train track behind the Inn and the AC unit is super loud. I didn't mind the noise much but would have loved some blinds on the windows it got pretty bright,, nice and early this morning. Overall I highly recommend this Inn for your stay in Charlottesville. I have a feeling I'll be back here soon!

Yelp
I came to Charlottesville last weekend to visit a family member. I called in to make my reservation around 6pm, and arrived after 10pm when they no longer had someone working in reception. Instead, they conveniently placed an envelope on the outer door with my keys and a pamphlet explaining the breakfast schedule and other amenities. The room itself was lovely, with antique furniture and a comfortable twin bed. I felt as if I was staying at a guest room in an old house (That's kind of the point, isn't it?). They went above and beyond in one key way: I left my laundry in the armoire. The day I checked out, they called me a few hours later, said they could ship my clothes to my address on file, and simply charge it to the card I'd paid for the reservation with. It was much appreciated. There is, unfortunately, one drawback. They're closer than I'd like to train tracks. My room (room 1) is toward the back of the hotel, and when the train came by at 3am, it wasn't just loud, but caused the room to shake. I had just been binging Stranger Things, and the sudden vibration made me wonder if I was experiencing Netflix-induced psychosis. I know this isn't their fault per sé, but when I come back (which I will!) I'll request a room on the other side of the house.

Yelp
The good the bad the ugly..... The good: You are right downtown, two blocks from the downtown mall. The staff is simply outstanding in every way, friendly helpful pleasant and accommodating. Rooms were comfortable bed was great. Lots of fresh breads for breakfast. The bad: Parking is not good, not enough for all the folks who can be staying on a busy weekend. Super tight spaces. The ugly: Yes you are right on top of the train tracks, had three come through starting at 2100 at night (01:30, 04:10). The 1:30 must have had square wheels because it was louder that the others and longer. By the second night we seemed to be used to it and I actually slept through the trains. Of course the fact that we went to the Monticello wine festival may have helped. :) Overall the good outweighs the bad (in my opinion). We have stayed here twice and would probably stay again.

Yelp
I love supporting small business owners and went into my stay at the 200 South Street Inn with high hopes. I left feeling just a little disappointed in the experience, and hate the fact that I left wishing I had stayed at a chain hotel nearby instead. Let me explain. The staff are phenomenally friendly, and deserve a 5 star rating if that's all that mattered when it comes to rating a hotel/inn visit. I have no complaints, and loved the fact that everyone at the property treated you like you were a friend, instead of a random guest. In addition, the location (less than a 2 minute walk from the Downtown Mall and a 5 minute drive to UVa) was superb. The stuff that wasn't so good? Well, the room really was unpleasant. As other reviewers have mentioned, some rooms are so close to the adjacent train tracks that you literally can feel the bed shaking as the train passes. And since the train is a commercial (not a commuter) line, it means that it operates 24 hours/day. I heard/felt it at midnight and at 5am. This really sucks if you want to sleep. Also, the furnishings felt old. Not cute old, just old. The window coverings felt dirty, and did not adequately cover up the windows. The rugs/throws on the floor looked well-worn. All said, I really wanted to rate the property a 5 star because of how much I liked the people who worked there. Unfortunately, when I ask myself the question "would I come back?" the answer was a no, and so that dropped it to a 3 star.

Justin K.

Yelp
Quaint, Quiet, Comfy. This amazing B&B's charm starts with the staff. Interested in where you are from and what brings you by, they will recommend and direct you to anything you could want in Charlottesville. The staff is friendly and warm just like the complimentary cookies! The room was clean and cozy. But the real gem about this B&B is location. You are only a few blocks from the mall, a bus stop that brings you right into the university's campus, and a few steps away from some of the best restaurants and breweries in town. We enjoyed our stay and fully recommend!

Erin B.

Yelp
On a recent trip to Charlottesville and planned to stay at The Omni, but it was too expensive, and there was a good deal on this place, which I hadn't heard of before. I have to say, from here on out, I'll try to stay here. Although it's not super fancy like The Omni, this place has a ton of charm. From the cozy rooms, outdoor seating, complimentary wine and cheese in the evening (which was great of have on the front porch), and convenience to the downtown mall, this place was perfect. I stayed in Room 22, which is in second house. The room was nice, bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was huge and included a whirlpool tub. I would have preferred to stay in the main house, but the second house is literally next door, so it really wasn't inconvenient. Regarding other reviews regarding the train tracks, I'd recommending selecting a room that doesn't face the tracks behind the hotel. My room was on the side of the house, and although I could hear the trains, it wasn't loud and I slept right through them at night.

Patrick D.

Yelp
Found this place on sale and booked it. Saw some mixed reviews, and I was skeptical. If you find yourself in the same boat, don't hesitate to book this B&B! Walked in, the host was great. Explained the layout perfectly, and offered great dinner suggestions with no BS when asked. Wine and cheese were out, and enjoyed a glass while rocking comfortable on the front porch with a beautiful view of downtown C'ville. The room is smaller. If you are looking for a huge box as a room, this isn't what you are looking for. The room is beautiful, however. Great furniture, A/C worked great (Saw Diane M.'s review on 7/8/2015, she really missed the greatness in this place IMHO), bed was comfy, the bathroom was wonderful, shower worked great. Got up the next morning, had a phenomenal continental breakfast with excellent coffee. Wouldn't hesitate to come back.

Yelp
What an amazing place. That pretty much sums it up. My wife and I take an annual motorcycle trip and leave the kids at my folks and this year we went to Charlottesville for the first time. I picked 200 South Street inn for many reasons; price, location, amenities and room presentation on their website. We could not be happier. The location is 2 blocks from the mall which has great restaurants and music venues and people watching. They offer wine and cheese in the early evening and a nice simple continental breakfast with breads, fruits, yogurts and cereal. If you want a full course breakfast you won't get it here but I don't miss that at all. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, our room (#24) was a split level one bedroom that is beautifully furnished and very quaint, and off street parking (a little tight for you cage drivers) is nice. As an added bonus the breakfast/happy hour room allows you to interact with the other guests and everyone was super nice. The overall experience is fantastic and I don't give out 5 stars easily. I will say that whenever in Charlottesville this is where I am staying. If you come to Charlottesville two musts are Monticello and Montpellier for some site seeing. And of course if you are riding the motorcycle please ride skyline drive...you will thank me for the recommendation.

Yelp
For weekend trips to C'ville, we had always stayed at the Omni for the location, but when all the internet rates were booked, I stumbled upon this gem using the great google.. and I'm pretty sure I'll never go back to the Omni. Just what you want in a downtown b&b. Delightful staff in a comfortable, historic house that opens up to the farmer's market and downtown mall. Easy in/out, good parking, and neat wrap-all-the-way-around-porch and back garden. And, oh, the perks.. Sleeping: highly recommend room 5, with it's old Virginia charm, fireplace, and jet tub (the last two features are musts!). For what it's worth, I didn't notice the night trains that others have commented on, but I am used to living near train tracks and, come on people, it's downtown! Eating: large warm cookies at reception at all hours; no skimping on the tasty white wines, variety of cheeses, and plethora of homemade bread, scones, and muffins for breakfast (love that they post recipes on the website, and readily handed over a seasonal pumpkin-eggnog-cream-cheese-muffin recipe that was to die for, offering baking lessons learned). Value: it doesn't get any better in Charlottesville at the winter weekend rate of $139. We came with another couple and it proved to be the perfect weekend getaway. Stretch out your stay here to take advantage of the comfy sitting room, chatting with the staff, and just enjoying your private fireplace and antique surroundings. Thanks, 200 South Street! We'll be back!

Chad S.

Yelp
Place is a gem in the heart of downtown but without the absurdly overpriced rates of the other downtown hotels (guess the lack of rooms in this town justifies NYC rates... Even for the flea bags). All the charm you might like about B&Bs, but WITHOUT the things you may not like... Such as the often-times shared bathroom arrangements. Arrive @ 5:30 to complimentary wine & cheese. Walk out the front door, ten steps in front of you is a great Asian fusion dining lounge & a mexican cantina. 10 steps to the right is a brewery/rest. Walk a little further to a great Thia rest... And a few more steps to the downtown mall which is full of dining, lounges, cinema & shops galor. Bed I was in was comfy w/a jetted tub in the bathroom.

Yelp
I've stayed at this property twice, last time was March 2007, in Room 1. They need to fix the showerhead in the bathroom, as it sprays over the shower curtain all over the wall, but we fixed that by throwing a washcoth over the opening. The decor was charming, check in was prompt and inviting. Parking is plentiful and it really is close to the Downtown mall which has endless dining and entertainment options. The first time I stayed here Fall of 2005, we stayed in Room 22, which had a large, updated bathroom with a great whirlpool. Honestly, the AC unit wasn't working the best, it can be loud, so don't stay here when it's in the middle of the summer. The whole train situation is not something to get really worked up about, they don't come through the town constantly during the night. I think you'll only have 1 or 2 at the most come through a night. This is a historic bed and breakfast. You will sacrifice a little convenience for charm. This place is great if you're having a girlfriend getaway or (as in my case for my first stay) if you're a UVA student looking to get away from your studies for a weekend.

christopher r.

Yelp
Decent value for $100/night, given the walking proximity to downtown. The charming room in the side house was above average, a little cramped. The stained bed cover was a visual nuisance, but the TV stand was a bit more annoying. It was so low that you couldn't watch without obstruction. The bathroom door stuck to the floor opening half way too. The staff is quite pleasant. The wine and cheese hour and continental breakfast are definite perks. Freight trains run around 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. for what seems like forever. You get used to it by the second night. Despite my complaints, the b&b really served its purpose and we could have spent more money at the Omni if it really mattered. Sometimes sacrificing all the amenities for some character is worthwhile.

Yelp
I stayed at 200 South Street Inn for one night while touring the local Charlottesville attractions. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The Inn is within walking distance to downtown Charlottesville and many restaurants, bars, and shops. They offered a good breakfast with local breads, jams, and jellies and a great evening reception with complimentary wine and local cheese. Oh, and cookies are offered around the clock! Yummy! My only complaint, which is actually a big complaint, is that the Inn is located near railroad tracks. Okay, VERY close to railroad tracks. The first time I heard the train was probably around 1:00 am, and I literally thought a helicopter was landing on the building! It scared me to death!!! Our room was on the ground floor. Maybe rooms on higher floors don't experience such an errrrrr... disturbance. All in all, we had a great stay, and I would probably stay here again - just on a higher floor.

Yelp
This was my first visit to charlottesville and I opted to stay at 200 south street inn instead of the other places, such as omni hotel. From the reviews I thought this b&b would be a better choice because it looked quaint and cozy. My visit didn't disappoint! Unlike other reviews, we didn't stay at a room near a train, or at least we didn't hear any. We stayed on the top floor so it was nice and quiet with vaulted ceilings. The room was clean and cozy - just how i imagined. the staff were extremely nice. The wine/cheese from 5-6:30 was excellent, and the breakfast was also good (all types of breads, fruit, yogurt, cereal, coffee, etc). The location was also great - just a couple blocks from downtown and it was about a $5-6 uber from the UVA area. I would definitely stay here again and I look forward to our next visit!

Yelp
Fantastic place to stay right on the downtown mall in charlottesville - I stayed here with the rest of the bridal party I was with and it was the perfect accommodation as we could bounce between each other's rooms and because it was centrally located to everything. The rooms are spacious and well decorated, but it's the finishing touches in terms of Southern hospitality that will leave you eager for another visit. There are always freshly baked chocolate chip oatmeal cookies at the reception desk, plus an afternoon wine and cheese party every day. You'll also get a great breakfast each day, complete with fresh fruits and breads. I would have liked to see something savory at breakfast as well as something with some protein (even some peanut butter or hard boiled eggs would have been nice) but then again sometimes it's nice to have an excuse for cinnamon swirl pound cake for breakfast. The rooms book up pretty quickly so if you're planning a trip to Charlottesville call in advance. Rooms vary in price (ours with a king bed, a separate living room and pull out couch on the main floor was more expensive than a queen bed on the basement level) so you'll be able to choose based on what you want to spend. All of the rooms are great though! Lovely front desk staff with a ton of knowledge about the area as well! Only drawback, besides the lack of protein for breakfast, was the inability to split the bill. Staying with three other girls it was a mess on our end trying to split everything and kind of put a damper on the overall experience.

Yelp
Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful; one star. Stayed in room 4 which was cozy and quaint; one star. Cheese and wine hour was a nice added plus!!! One star. The other missing two stars were for the room noise above and beside us. Don't expect to sleep in past 6:30/7. For the price per night's stay it wasn't worth it. We may come back but will request an upper level room to see if that is better. It's an amazing area and the house is very historical. We felt lucky to stay here other than the noise issue!

Yelp
We love this Bed and Breakfast! It is a quaint, cozy, little bed and breakfast that encourages congeniallity among the guests with it's amazing "continental" breakfasts and afternoon wine and cheese snacks. They also have amazing homemade cookies on the bar anytime one feels the urge to grab one. We have been travelling there with another couple for the past several years and use the Inn as a home base as we run out during the days to area wineries so that we can stock up for the year to come. Another perk is the many great shops and restaraunts within walking distance from the inn.

Yelp
What a lovely inn! The staff were very friendly, the furniture was charming, and there were fresh cookies everyday! Location was ideal too. Highly recommend staying here!

Yelp
Very good location at a very reasonable price. Right off the Downtown Mall but not right on the main drag, so not loud. Rooms were small but adequate, though showed some age in a few places. One gripe was that each room only had one key, but it didn't end up being a problem for us. Wine and cheese at 5, which was nice. Breakfast is Continental, which is a little bit of a departure from what some expect at a B&B, but it was delicious and satiating. Would stay here again. I love Charlottesville.

Yelp
Simply a delightful B&B. Perfect location! Beautiful home, comfy linens, patio, porch. Delicious breakfast. Helpful & accommodating staff. I will definitely recommend and definitely be back.

Yelp
This was an exceptional experience at this pre-Civil War Inn in the heart of downtown Charlottesville, VA, 2 blocks off the Main St. Mall. Location could not be better! This B&B was nicely restored with many amenities. Great breakfast spread (fresh squeezed OJ and home made breads) and a daily 5-6:30pm wine and cheese happy hour. Everything was first class and catered to complete guest satisfaction. But the best part was the truly wonderful and friendly staff. We will definitely return.

Yelp
Very nice B & B close to shops and restaurants. Staff was very accommodating and the breakfast and wine and cheese hour were delightful. We never heard the train go through at night but one morning it did go through around 7am. We are early risers and it did not bother us. 3 of the rooms are on a third floor of the house, where ours was, so if difficulties with steps-you should ask where your room is located inside the house.

Yelp
From the moment we pulled in, we knew we were going to love this place. Every one of the staff were gracious and helpful, breakfast was perfect on the porch, the room was charming and comfortable. We can't wait to go back. Thank you!

Yelp
Really enjoyed our weekend here. The staff is wonderful. Not a full breakfast (continental) but they make up by having a wine and cheese when you arrive. This place is close to the downtown mall and in a very special Charlottesville neighborhood

Yelp
I tried to make a reservation here for guests at my wedding. The owner was ultimately rude and unaccommodating. Did not make an effort to find out more, or figure out a way she could help me.

Yelp
The train isn't a big deal, unless you're an uptight, whiny complainer. You know who you are. The place was nice and the staff was friendly. Wine and cheese was great. The cookies they set out all day are amazing. The breakfast wasn't so great. I thought bed and breakfast meant breakfast and not bed and continental breakfast. Sure the bread was good but they paired it with cereal and grapes. Awesome. Still, a cool place and wonderful location. I would go again.

Yelp
I had never stayed at a bed and breakfast before, but I am glad I tried this one. We came up for the winter promotion (it ended at the end of January- sorry!) and were pleasantly surprised. We had read some reviews complaining about the house being old and some people hearing trains go by. Well, of course the house is old- it predates the Civil War! A lot of the decor also has an antique-y, homey charm, which I assume most people are looking for at a B&B. Our room was beautifully decorated and had a modern TV and heating system. It was also surprisingly spacious, with a separate TV/ sitting area. The best part was definitely the 2 gas fireplaces. Perfect after a cold, windy day outside. The only complaint was that there was some soot on the floor from both the fireplaces that should have probably been cleaned up, but that was just a minor annoyance and everything else was clean. The bed was super comfortable, and we never heard any trains. With the super awesome winter promotion, we couldn't beat the price. The location was walking distance to the downtown mall. It was really nice to be able to walk to restaurants. The staff was super friendly and helpful. They helped book us tickets to Monticello and gave us good restaurant suggestions. The breakfast included fruit, cereal, yogurt, coffee and tea, and delicious homemade sweet breads. They also had a wine and cheese reception in the early evening free to all guests and fresh fruit and cookies available all day long. I would definitely recommend the 200 South Street End- especially when they have more awesome promotions!

Yelp
Charming woman checked us in. That is the good news. The rooms are tiny and smell like...old rooms. There is plenty of renovations that need to be done...yellowed and peeling paint. We had a colony of ants alive and dead all around the very shaky toilet. The place is dirty by the light of day. They are clearly relying on their charm, but they need to make improvements. When I brought up the insect infestation, the woman at the desk said sorry but offered no discount or refund. Duh. A dirty, sticky place overall. In this case intimate equals unprivate and unwashed. Kinda gross.

Yelp
Perfect location! 1 block from the mall and across the street from the Saturday market. Wine and cheese every night and a satisfactory continental breakfast. Staff was courteous and the rooms are a little aged, but comfortable. Too convenient to miss. I'd stay again.

Yelp
Awesome location, very nice staff. Fireplaces in a lot of the bedrooms. Great wine hour at 5 pm.

Yelp
Overall, a convenient and charming place to stay. When we first drove into Charlottesville, the Inn's location seemed a little out of the way. However, it turned out to be INCREDIBLY close to the downtown mall area which made outings especially convenient. Finding a B&B with a room with two twin beds is rare, so since I was traveling with my father, that was much appreciated. The wine/cheese hour is wonderful, as is the continental breakfast. There are a variety of outdoor sitting spaces, which was perfect for sitting and relaxing in the later evening. Downsides... The Inn is very very very (maybe 100 yards) from the train tracks, which might be difficult for some people, but after the first few times it went by we tuned it out. Also, our room was a little tight with the amount of furniture packed into the room, so it took some maneuvering to walk around the room once we added our suitcases to the mix. Moral of the story: I would definitely stay here again!

Yelp
As part of a Christmas present, we stayed in room number 5 for the weekend. It started out as a great weekend, greeted by the nice staff at the desk with fresh cookies. We were then guided to our room which was right behind the front desk. We discovered quite a few hairs in the bathroom: in the bathtub, on the walls, and under the toilet seat. Also, we paid for a whirlpool tub but it was broken. The bathroom could be heated but the knob was missing. We spent the night with no heat in the bathroom, which felt like camping because it was not insulated. We found out that the owner of the inn knew that the heat knob was missing and that the whirlpool tub was broken. Bad ownership. Also, the bed was as comfortable as sleeping on sheetrock. Again, felt like camping. The excitement of the inn had begun to wear off. The breakfast was nice but not with too many options. Mainly bread and fruit. Tasty bread but not worth the money of the inn. We'll try another place when we come back to Charlottesville. We were happy to leave and not return.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed at this very cute inn this past weekend. The location is perfect, just a few blocks from the "mall" and close to the Pavillion. The staff was attentive and accomodating. The breakfast and wine/cheese were great. We stayed in room #4 for $150 per night. The room was sufficient - however, the A/C unit was loud and the inn is very close to the train - If you are not a heavy sleeper, this is not the place for you to get a good night sleep. I believe the train came through at least 2-3 times. In addition, I would have expected a much more comfortable bed. The room as well needs some minor fixes. Overall, I would stay at another inn and give up the convenience of the location for a more comfortable bed and quieter night.

Yelp
Breakfast and the wine and cheese were great. Unfortunately, our room wasn't. We stayed in room #9. At best the room was tired. Paint was peeling, there were cracks in the walls and ceiling and it generally needed a fair amount of TLC and new paint. We have stayed in a lot of B&Bs through the years and our room was disapointing compared to where we have stayed on the past. For what we paid for this room, we expected something in much better shape. What I don't understand is that if you knew the room was in need of major repairs, why would you rent it out at all, let alone for $240.00 per night?

Diane M.

Yelp
Autrocious. A/C died at around 11 pm with room temperatures in the 80s. Was told emergency technicians were called but at 4 am still no resolution. If I get a free night this review might change. After a long day of driving, not a happy camper... Curtains poorly designed so that morning sun comes through gaps, parking difficult to find and a long way from car to room, no attempt to help get luggage in and up a two flight entrance, backs up to train tracks, poor wifi,...need I say more? So no apology given by the owner for the outage and a measly 20% reduction in my bill. It also appeared that this was a recurring problem since no one seemed surprised that It happened. Do NOT stay in the main building. Do NOT stay there at all.

Mary C.

Yelp
Room and bathroom were outdated. Some staff were rude. Wine and cheese and breakfast were nice. Nice location but will not return.

Yelp
This place has so much charm, it could not be any better! Each room is unique and oh so cozy! I absolutely loved my stay here. You will feel right at home. It is in the perfect location. The staff is so friendly. They offer free cheese and wine! If you are visiting Charlottesville and you want to be close to downtown you must visit this place. And its in the same price range as the other hotels in the area, and even cheaper than some! But you get much more for your money!

Kathryn W.

Yelp
Great bed and breakfast right near the downtown mall in Charlottesville. We have had family stay several times here and they have always given positive reviews on the Inn. Courteous staff with local knowledge, combined with a historic home that includes breakfast with every stay - right downtown? You have a winner for an authentic hotel experience in Central Virginia.
