I have eaten here many times and have never had a bad meal! The only bad experience is the FOMO from watching someone eat the burger when you ordered something else. It's truly so good. The fries are great, the side salad is great- if you can do a split of the two go for it! The deserts are all dead on as well. Would definitely suggest ordering a few and sharing. It's worth making a reservation at this spot, as it fills up especially in the Summer months. This restaurant is located in a large older house- It's an accessible spot overall, with open seating and nice clean amenities. The driveway is convenient as it loops around the building and you can easily pull in and out without backing up.

Pedro has outdone himself yet again. We missed the Saturday evening feature ( sold out ) however the salmon / shrimp was incredible 😋 Don't get me started on the sticky date pudding! If you are thinking about dining here pick up that phone and make a reservation!

Google
Great food, drinks, and service at 21 Breakwater Their "dry" style chicken wings served with a coating of salt, lime, and seasoning are fantastic and should not be missed. We love the chefs spin on the Portuguese fish and chips. Their grilled marinated chicken sandwich was excellent too. Book early, but don't worry if you can't get a dinner reservation, as the lunch menu is great too. The location offers fabulous ocean views and the ferry boats. Highly recommended.

Google
One of the nicest dining options in Souris, with a beautiful view of the ferry terminal and surrounding harbor! We went on a cooler day so we were seated inside, however they do have some seating outdoors on the covered patio if you'd like to relax with a drink in the shade. The interior of the restaurant is tastefully decorated and very open (which can result in it becoming a bit noisy when large groups are visiting), though pretty much every seat inside can get a good view out of the large ocean-facing windows. If you can get a reservation in advance, I'd recommend it as this place can get pretty busy in the evenings. Give it a try when you're in the area, as the restaurant is for sale and it's unclear if they will continue to have their delicious menu or not if/when new owners take it over.

Google
We stopped here on a whim , looked like a cute dining place with an amazing view of the harbour. But we were left speechless, and very happy. If your in souris, heck if your in pei make the trip here. I lived in Calgary 17yrs and never have I had such good food and the deserts should be illegal I had to try 2 of them lol The hostess told us this place is for sale , I really hope whatever buys it will take the time to learn from the previous owner. But I also selfishly hope he doesn’t sell it this year lol We will be back several times this summer, love exploring and finding hidden gems like this.

Google
Definitely the best mussels we’ve had in east coast! It was a taste of paradise. The lobster dip was so comforting, felt like a warm soothing hug after a long day. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Google
We had a good experience at 21 Breakwater. Beautiful view, quiet setting. We ordered the dry wings, calamari, Portuguese fish and chips and the prime rib. All the food was good, but not specifically standing out.

Stoped in on an eastern PEI swing for a quick bite to eat. Staff was very pleasant and the food well prepared. An awesome view topped off this great meal.

Yelp
What a gem! Atmosphere! Views! Ambience! Oh, yeah, and the food was good too. Mussels appetizer was phenomenal, as was the accompanying bread to soak up the deliciousness. The "pasta primavera" was absolutely delicious. I asked for light sauce and no bacon and was accommodated quite easily. The fried haddock was superb. Lightest ever batter! Fabulous fries.

Yelp
First the good. The service and view a 5. Ambiance 5. Food 3. The wings were a 3. The soup a 4 only because I like a thicker broth in chowder. Burger a 3. The Portuguese fish and chips a three. The fish was cooked perfectly but there was a weird taste along with the fries. Might have been the lime. I'm a Plain James when it comes to food so this food was to fancy for my tastes.

Yelp
From the inviting ambience to the delicious food this restaurant won't disappoint. The view is fabulous...especially on a blustery overcast day! We started with chips and spinach artichoke dip. So yummy and warm. The kettle chips were lightly seasoned and crispy. We had the lunch fish and chips which was lightly breaded and simmered in white wine and lemony goodness. The grilled BLT had a perfect char on the bread. It tasted like the char from a burger packaged in a fresh, crispy BLT. The fries were delicate and crispy and very well seasoned. I enjoyed a sweet rasberry lemonade. To finish it off we had a warm, buttery, slightly crispy caramel dumpling top with vanilla ice cream. It was similar to a caramel bread pudding. So delicious!

Yelp
WOULD DRIVE HERE JUST FOR A MEAL. Lovely restaurant chalet-looking house facing the water. Decor was cozy, romantic and rustic with fresh cut flowers on each table. We ordered: Salad: fresh greens, nothing special but a much needed staple. Chowder: If you like non-creamy soupy ones, this is the best I've had. Authentic oil-based/butter taste! Heavy on the green onions, very welll flavoured. Haddock: hearty stew-like (pot pie filling like) plate with roasted potatoes and vegetables. Fish was nicely done, not over-cooked. Very filling and delicious! They use copious amounts of butter, which is probably why it's super tasty. Blueberry dumpling with ice cream: warm hearty pie like dessert. Not too sweet if you share. Throughly enjoyed my experience and would have loved to try other dishes. Many people ordered the nachos and burgers. Whatever you do, the chowder is a must!!! Would have loved to come back and diner on the patio in the summer.

Yelp
We finally got a table here after 2 trips to PEI and three days of trying and we were more than excited to finally be here given how much we have heard about this place. The service was rather poor with inattentive servers but nonetheless our meal started out very well. We ordered the mussels and lobster&crab dip. Hands down these were the best mussels I had in PEI and the chips that accompanied the dip were to die for. The main course though was totally off point ( so much ao that I would like to think thag they were just having an off day ). We ordered the piri chicken, portuguese haddock and the breakwater burger. From my experience PEI serves great chicken, burgers and haddock. But every meal was very disappointing. The piri piri chicken was over cooked ans tasted nothing like piri piri chicken. The only thing good about the haddock was the tartar sauce that accompanied it. And the burger was a rather basic burger you can find at any other place. The ambience ia great but it is definitely not worth the visit.

Yelp
Came across this restaurant as we were touring east point area of PEI. The special today was a burger and beer. First I love me burgers and I am very picky about them. This burger didn't disappoint. It was flavourful and the patty was juicy. The garnishes were perfect. Just writing this review about the burger is making my mouth water. The French fries where a hit too. They also had a special of mussels. When in PEI one must have mussels. Now these were the best mussels that we have tasted on our Atlantic Canada trip. My partner had the seafood chowder. It was mouth-watering delicious. This chowder had lots of seafood and good sized pieces of bacon. Our server was top notch and gave helpful suggestions. I would not miss this restaurant if you're in the area. If we could have, we would have gone back for dinner.

Yelp
Dropped in for lunch on recommendation of an acquaintance and was not disappointed. At the recommendation of our waitress, had the fish, which was delicious, as was husband's burger. Service was friendly. A little pricey. Otherwise, would highly recommend.

Yelp
The food was absolutely excellent, I had the fish and chip special that was Panko crusted. Kids had huge potato chip nacho's and a burger and fries. The restaurant is a beautiful converted home across from the ocean.

Yelp
This restaurant was delightful! With the very best food we tasted on PEI. The flavors took the level of excellence to an easy 5! Cooked to perfection. The atmosphere is relaxing with the water view and attention to interior detail in design, colors and great Black and white photos of PEI ... just wonderful. If you are lucky and it is warm the porch is a treat! We had lunch on the porch one day and came back for dinner the next. Our waitress was very friendly and did an overall good job but should have checked in a little more often or kept her eyes on her tables for help signals. However, this slight delay is no reason not to go. We would say over the 50 years I have been coming to PEI this is the best! Been for a winter visit to the island and by far this restaurant is the very BEST on PEI and one of the top ten we have ever eaten at world wide! Excellent! Thank you to the entire team! Yelp
Lovely spot for some tasty small- or large-plate dining. We stopped by on a rainy day over the summer to have a couple beers and chowder. The chowder was rich and delicious, the salads were well balanced and fresh, and the view was not too shabby. FYI, the place looks like a house, and feels like you're in the dining room of a house. But it's great.

Yelp
We were walk-ins on a Tuesday night, thinking it was a weekday and we likely didn't really need a reservation - but we were wrong! It was full and we were lucky enough that the servers snuck us in. We split a few plates: the mussels, the salad, and the piri piri chicken, finishing with the chocolate and banana bread pudding. The mussels were super fresh, the salad was good, the chicken was flavourful and the dessert was lovely without being too sweet. We were super pleased with the meal and service was wonderful, even though it was a packed house. We recommend this spot, and make sure you call ahead for a reservation if you want to go for dinner! (At least - in the summer)

Yelp
Terrific meal all around. Probably the best seafood chowders that we've had during our 2-week trip to the Maritimes (and we've had quite a few!); not too thick and chock full of delicious, fresh seafood. We also got the lobster dip and mussels. All fresh and delicious. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Beautiful food in a lovely house. Exceeded my expectations and I will definitely be coming back next year!

Yelp
Breaking News: Charlottetown is really not the centre of the universe. No, it's not. Leave Ann of Green Gables behind, and drive east, you visitors from away; drive toward Montague, Georgetown, and St Peters Bay. Roll down your window and breathe in the scent of ocean water and mussel beds; look out to your right at those red cliffs you saw in the ads for PEI (the ones that brought you here). Go for lunch at 21 Breakwater in Souris, then putter down to Red Point Park and park your car looking toward the ocean. And then just sit there. 21 Breakwater is a reminder that much of the great beauty of PEI resides on the Eastern Shore- Little Pond. Bay Fortune. Rollo Bay. Souris. I think of these places as "The Real Island". Less pretense, more real talent, more real Islanders. This "other" PEI, often ignored by government, now boasts a restaurant, sitting right on the water that, if this keeps up and other chefs join him (much like what happened in Portland Maine) might soon lead to Charlottetown being thought of as an afterthought: Breakwater's Portuguese Chef Pedro Pereira cooks fish like a god- lightly egg battered and pan seared to perfection in white wine butter and herbs; moist and perfectly delicate and with a homemade subtly delicious tarter sauce and thinly cut local fries on the side. The pork and bacon sandwich comes with beautifully marinated and cooked pork cutlets piled atop brie cheese homemade bread and fresh greens. Start off with a seafood chowder filled with chunks of fresh lobster, halibut once again cooked perfectly, chunks of bacon, and just enough butter glazing the top to keep you coming back for more. And for dessert have homemade bread pudding with vanilla ice cream or a delicious sticky date pudding (a local favourite). Then you can smile when you get the bill for two and its only (albeit without drinks) fifty bucks. Well shucks, if you're American, call it thirty!!! This place is a real find, and offers great value. We ran into two folks from Maine as we left the restaurant- it was their third time eating at Breakwater that week. That tells yuh somethin!!!

Yelp
I'm always nervous going to places that don't look like restaurants. I'm always afraid I'm accidently walking into someone's house. But this was fabulous. Food was fantastic! Souris was one of my favorite places to visit in PEI and this was a great restaurant!

Yelp
Great seafood and not too heavy! Note the opening hours on yelp don't quite match. We dined here at around 2pm on a Weds in August.

Yelp
A true gem in a small town. I had heard rumors about how delishious the food was at this cozy spot so took a chance and booked a reservation for my March birthday dinner. Neither I, nor my boyfriend (fussy man that he is), were disappointed. The old house had been redone but still maintains touches of the old that match well with the modern. I'm sure the view in spring thru fall would be wonderful, but we had to settle for views of the ice flows...nice enough too. This is what I would class as casual fine dining. The atmosphere is quiet, the dining and setting is casual but the food...oh the food....well it's Devine! I was a bit disappointed that the menu is limited during the off season, so I couldn't order their famous beef tips. However, a were so pleased with the quality of the food we ordered that we plan on going back often to try the other dishes when the full menu comes back on in the spring Now to the food.... I had the white wine cream pasta with roast chicken (sprinkled with tomatoes, goat cheese and smokey bacon) followed by banana bread pudding with brown sugar sauce (sigh), while the bf started with a creamy goat cheese and mixed green salad, followed by smoke grilled roast chicken breast with a smashed garlic potato, buttered carrots and button mushrooms, and a blueberry apple crisp for dessert. Sound mouth watering? Well yes, it was! We highly recommend you give 21 Breakwater a call, book a reservation, and prepare to be delighted!

Yelp
After checking out excellent Yelp reviews, we stopped by 21 Breakwater while on the lighthouse tour of PEI. The ambience, service and food was exactly as described - all excellent! We chose to sit on the front porch overlooking the water - an excellent choice. We had the dry rubbed wings with horseradish sauce as an appetizer - delicious! Mains were the Portuguese Pork Sandwich, Breakwater Burger, and Portuguese Fish and Chips. Everything was cooked to perfection and delicious. Our server was very attentive and friendly. All in all, a delightful experience!

Yelp
Would give it more than five stars if I could. The service was beyond excellent and the food was amazing. We tried different plates and were not disappointed by it, if this place were closer to my house I would definitely come here every weekend. If the place is not too full and you have a choice I would recommend sitting outside, it has such a beautiful view.

Yelp
Small little place overlooking the ferry launch. First had the chowder. Was great then had the haddock. Wow. Best fish I have ever had anywhere in on the east coast including NFL. The sticky date desert was awesome. A ltr of wine 29$ was a bonus. This is a must try, hats off to the chef.
google avatar

Peter M.

Yelp
The food was amazing. Taste that delivered well beyond expectations. The haddock dish may have been the best I have ever tasted. The views are amazing as well. It was very busy so service was on the slower side but very warm and friendly. Some island tunes playing would also some further ambience. Nicely done and we will go back for sure!

Yelp
Got a very early table on Friday and had the place to ourselves for awhile. Great view of the bay. Staff was very friendly. I started with their House Salad and wife and kids 1 and 3 had the Lobster and Crab dip. I don't generally like lobster, crab, or lobster and crab dip, but I was this close to trying it. Instead, Kid 2 and I sampled the delicious olive bread the others were using to dip. Waitress kindly gave us more: warm and good. For dinner my wife had the Poached Haddock and loved it. Kids ordered usual kid restaurant food, but after a week of usual kid restaurant food it thankfully was better than usual kid restaurant food: "real" chicken nuggets of non-matching shapes, pasta and sauce, and Portuguese Haddock. I hemmed and hawed about Portuguese Haddock or ribeye and finally decided on the fish, and this is where four stars comes from. I should've gotten the steak or ordered from kid's menu. Kid 1's kid's portion was the same as mine, but hers cost $7 and mine $17. I did have a salad on mine, but definitely not a $10 salad (tiny, though since I'd already had a salad I didn't mind). Fish was great though, as were the fries. I didn't try the tartar sauce, but every review I've read says it's great so you should try it. Ordered desserts: cheesecake and something else my wife shared with 1, 2, and 3. Both delicious. Cheesecake was unconventional, but light and tasty. Overall: great way to spend our last night on PEI. We hope to eat here again next year.

Yelp
The seafood chowder is fabulous. Enjoyed the view from the deck while chowing down on mussels. Can't wait until we come back tomorrow.

Yelp
Super smart and very cool restaurant. Well worth the drive to the eastern shore of PEI. If you are hungry, in Souris, stop here. You'll be glad you did.

Yelp
Stopped for a late lunch. Worth all 5 stars! Beautiful updated older home with outdoor deck seating with a view of the ocean. We both ordered the scallops, mine with a fresh garden salad, balsamic vinegar dressing and wonderful fresh goat cheese. My husband also ordered the scallops but instead of salad he had penne with tomatoe basil sauce. Both meals were fresh and flavourful with plenty of tender, perfectly cooked scallops. We finished off the meal with Blueberry buckle and vanilla ice cream and coffee. Now all we need is a walk and a nap.

Yelp
Wonderful restaurant in a converted house. Lobster soup was absolutely delicious and incredibly flavourful. Special of the day was excellent. Highly recommend if you're in this neck of the woods.

Yelp
The food was fantastic! The service incredible ! We are celebrating our 30th anniversary and started here today! Lobster dip with artisanal grilled bread a must! Fish & chips Portuguese style- divine ! My husband had fish chowder to die for , ended with a local homemade rhubarb crumble - sweet!

Stephanie S.

Yelp
We popped in here for impromptu lunch and were pleasantly surprised. The building itself is beautiful with all the old world charm of a victorian house. The servers were very focused on seating and serving people; and that was impressive...although the servers were the reason for not voting 5 stars; as in their efforts to do their job, there was no charm and warmth in the way they treated most of their customers. Smiles and pleasant connections would have elevated the experience to a 5 star rating for sure. The food sang of a chef who was passionate about his/her food though! Attention to detail with the presentation and great flavour from every element on the plate. I would definitely recommend this to anyone traveling to or through Souris.

Mariana N.

Yelp
Beautiful setting in a small town. My husband said the burger was tied with the best he has ever had... and he's had a lot of burgers hahaha. Apparently it was the bacon marmalade that made it. My meal was also very good and the servers were friendly. If you are in the area, I would definitely recommend this place to eat.

Ryan M.

Yelp
This place received many warm reviews from my friends and family so we decided to check it out. View is great, especially just before dusk. It has big windows that let you look out over the harbour while you're eating. The menu had one entree that was vegetarian and overall was sort of small. We've heard the food was amazing but maybe it was too much hype, we all found the food just satisfactory. A couple of us ordered beer and they must have been put in the fridge just 5 minutes before because they were warm enough not to have condensation on the bottle. I thought maybe they were just re-stocking with a popular beer but we ordered 2 different kinds of beer and both were warm. Wine was very delicious though. The atmosphere was great as the sun was setting, lots of candles and more than suitable music. Since this review we have been back several times and the beer has gotten a little bit colder but still not cold enough. And would definitely recommend the goat cheese burger and the nachos! Nachos are the best I have had anywhere. But please offer jalapeños in the kitchen!

Rob H.

Yelp
Thoroughly charming, with a lovely menu. Well-prepared food at a fair price. We summer in the area and this will be a regular haunt for us. A welcome addition to the area!

Jan M.

Yelp
Beautifully remodeled home overlooking the water. Outdoor seating on the porch (request when making reservation). Good menu. Great food!! Very pleasant experience - glad we chose this! Emily did a great job waiting on us

Sandra P.

Yelp
This restaurant is not worth the drive to Souris. Staff were not knowledgeable about the menu. Waitress had to run back at least 3 or 4 times to the owner to get answers to our questions which was most annoying and time consuming. When so many of us have food allergies and sensitivities to certain items they certainly were not accommodating to those needs, nor did they seem to care. Inquired about garlic in their dishes and they said there was garlic in all their dishes. Also told everyone likes garlic - I think not! That is a non statement. The owner's wife was not friendly and welcoming, like she was doing us a favour letting us dine in her restaurant. We are the ones doing the paying plus the prices were on the high side. There was no effort made on the part of her or her husband the chef to address special dietary needs. Ended up having a house salad which was mostly greens with a few red onion pieces thrown in after we mentioned that I do not eat onions. All in all would certainly not recommend this restaurant; their service was not good with no attention being paid to dietary needs plus the owner/chef's wife was not the least bit friendly or welcoming.
