The 27 Best Places To Eat & Drink In Detroit - The Infatuation

"Gold Cash Gold operates inside an old Corktown pawn shop right on Michigan Ave and if you’re looking for somewhere to dress up a little, but still eat with your hands, this is it. The menu is Southern-ish, and you should definitely get the fried chicken, but it also includes things like bone marrow dumplings and cassoulet stuffed quail. The food’s a bit all over the place, but that - along with their extensive cocktail list, great brunch, and big patio - is exactly why we keep coming back." - Sara Barron, Sam Faye

Yelp
First time to this restaurant in Corktown. The food was fantastic from the apps to the dinners (various Ramens and Chicken Katsu) to the dessert (trio of mochi's and chocolate / caramel crunch). The service was excellent (Ronan) and the drinks were well-crafted. Definitely going to return!

Yelp
Food: 7/10 Tried the tonkotsu ramen and miso udon. The ramen was solid--an 8/10. The miso udon? Eh, more like a 6/10. But let me tell you, the calamari? Absolute fire. A straight-up 10/10. It's definitely the standout here and something I'd come back for without question. Service: 9/10 Service was great, nothing mind-blowing, but it hit the mark. Exactly what you'd expect from a place like this--friendly, attentive, no complaints. Ambiance: 8/10 Pretty cool vibe. The lighting was on point, and they even had a disco ball, which added a fun touch. Nothing crazy or over the top, but it worked for the space. Value: 5/10 Not gonna lie, the value wasn't there for me. It's more of a date-night spot than a regular hangout. The calamari was incredible, but you don't get much of it. The ramen was good, but for what I paid, I left still kinda hungry. Then again, I'm cheap AF, so take that with a grain of salt--I rarely score places high on value.

Yelp
I stopped by for happy hour with my cousins with no reservation. There was nothing in the main dining room so we sat in the back section. It appeared to be a space that was added on to the original building. It was cute, comfy, cozy space and I was just happy we didn't have to sit at the bar. From the happy hour menu I ordered the chili garlic shrimp, dry aged rib eye, karage fried chicken bites, and the umami thick fries. Each item was $5. My favorites were the fried chicken & the fries. The fries were surprisingly good. It was thick cut potatoes topped with crispy leeks, umami seasoning, yuzu-guava ketchup, & furikake mayo. There were just so many flavors tickling my palette. For my mocktails, I had the purple monsoon & blueberry ginger fizz. Each drink was The purple monsoon was my favorite between the two. The combination of jasmine tea syrup, lime, ube coconut cream, & pineapple really hit the spot. I definitely felt like I should be drinking it on the beach. I can't wait to come back & try some items on the regular menu.

Yelp
I came here yesterday with my friends for a little lunch. The hostess and waitress were both very kind! The restaurant is so pretty. I've been here when it's dark and during the daytime now and it's still so pretty. I ordered a different handroll this time -- I got the spicy tuna, I think the salmon was better. We skipped the fries this time but missed those haha! I got the Tonkotsu Ramen again, my friend got the spicy version and I wish I would have tried that one. Regardless, it's super creamy, very rich, and the pork had like a sweet glaze on it that was very good! I think I had a better experience this time based on food, service, and overall vibe. This place is easy to add to a regular rotation.

Yelp
The space is much larger than it seems from the outside. The host wound us through the entire restaurant to seat us out on their covered patio. Thankfully they have heaters and we were very comfortable. Our server assumed we wouldn't know anything about Asian cuisine and spent a long time explaining the menu to us. They have so many options, including many that are not commonly available at izakaya spots - like ramen, udon, and pho! My friend got the hamachi scallion handroll and said it was good. I skipped it because it seemed like it had a few too many ingredients. We ordered everything else to share. - several skewers - the shishito peppers - one order each of the maitake mushroom and cumin lamb dumplings - yuzu miso ramen with chicken Everything was tasty and we left satiated but not stuffed sharing between three people.

Yelp
Friends suggested and booked a table on the patio for 5:30p on a Wednesday ahead of a show at Fisher Theater. The patio is nicely closed up and well heated. I was surprised how comfortable it was in there. Joe greeted us immediately and took our drink order. We had about 25 mins before the end of Happy Hour. Drinks were delivered and time to order food. I ordered from the HH menu - skewers, wasabi-octopus, and a spicy tuna hand roll. I wouldn't do the octopus again, I didn't realize it was raw. Good flavor though. I didn't dig the texture. The spicy tuna hand roll was weak but filling. No veggies just a bit of tuna on rice. My friends loved their bowls. Nice hunk of short rib, on top of creamy, thick noodles. Along with fried garlic, kimchi, lime and veggies. The pho was huge with delicate rice noodles full of fresh jalapeño, sprouts, pork belly and lime. Service was great. We were looking for him and he wasn't hounding us. Perfect amount of attention and he didn't skip the details. Brought me a drink I wanted without further prompting. Great visit. I would recommend to others. This block is trying to come alive. Hopefully the parking situation gets better. I think there is a neighboring lot for the local businesses but it is not clear if it costs or is open or what one has to do to park there and not have someone try to tow your vehicle. Street parking is choice but that too is unclear. What is with the frickin lines?! Can we park there or not? Didn't get towed and paid my parking. Guess it was ok though very frustrating.

Yelp
Ima, I'm a huge fan! Started with their mezcal cocktail, "Highs & Lows" which I really enjoyed. It was smokey of course, but the toasted coconut flavor combined with the citrus made it one of the best mezcal margs I've ever had! I ordered the pork tonkatsu ramen and a meatball skewer. I didn't love the meatball personally, but the ramen was 5/5. The pork belly was PERFECT, the broth was immaculate, and everything tasted so fresh and delicious. It was not too salty, and was the perfect cozy meal for a cold October evening. Our server was very attentive and kind as well.

Yelp
This restaurant is definitely a hidden GEM. The service was really good. The restaurant is clean and the service was fast!!! I tried the Udon Miso buttery chicken , that was really good. If you want something that's not soup or want to try something different I'd get this dish. It had a curry flavor to it. The shrimp toast was BEYOND EXCELLENT!!! Crispy and butter and the bread had a fluffy crunch taste. Really good!!!

Yelp
So so happy I came here. I was in town for work and trying to kill some time between work and another engagement I had that evening. That awkward time turned out to be happy hour here! What fortuitous timing. I tried everything I could on the happy hour menu, food wise, going off some recommendations from the awesome and helpful server. Everything was a hit. Each item was so uniquely flavored and well/balanced. The deal was too good to pass up, and I got a mini tasting-menu quality meal with the diversity there was. The atmosphere is kind of dark and moody, but still really cool. I cannot wait to be back in the area, hopefully on another work trip, to come back and work my way through the menu again!

Yelp
Had an excellent lunch here! Kudos for being open at lunch time when so few places aren't. First, they are not where they used to be! They moved across the street into the space that used to be Gold Cash Gold. We ordered from a special 3-course set menu where some of the money was donated to Forgotten Harvest. My dining companion is a vegan and the choices included a vegan appetizer, main course, and dessert. I had the calamari, sea bass, and a slice of caramel chocolate mousse. Service was friendly and food arrived quickly.

Yelp
Steven E.'s happy place. 5 stars for everything. Come here. Everything is exceptional. The End. Outside it's the quintessential Michigan Ave corner business in Old Style Detroit. Inside it's posh yet not rude, Casual with Class. We like to dress semi-formal and play it up. The waitstaff are professional and very attentive. They compliment the kitchen crew to provide fast flawless service. Many restaurants should follow their example. Pro Tip: This needs to be your stop for the very best experience in Izakaya. The menu is vast. The dishes are prepared exactly as should be. Prepare yourself. Ima is all about presentation and authentication. Eat slowly and savor. Eat small bites for flavour. Portions are not large. You do not take this home. Dine at your table. Carry out memories. The talent comes at a price. Our party of eight cost over $600 with tip. I will continue to pay this for the privilege. 10/24

Yelp
My boyfriend and I celebrated our anniversary here and had a great time! Our server was super nice and she noticed that our table was a little wobbly and fixed it for us right away. We got the thicc fries as an appetizer and they were soooo good, highly recommend. Then I got the tonkotsu ramen and my boyfriend got the chicken katsu curry. I loved the ramen and the serving size was bigger than expected (always a good surprise!) so there were leftovers to pack home. We also got some hard ciders to drink and halfway through them, noticed we got the wrong ones, the ones we got were still good though so we just had a little laugh about it. The general vibe was really cool and I loved the look of the place. I do run kinda warm, so it was a little too hot for me in there, but that's really just a personal preference thing and does not impact my review, just wanted to note it. It was also a busy Friday night, so I'd recommend making reservations! I'm not sure how far in advance my boyfriend made ours, but we got there like exactly on time and were seated immediately.

Yelp
Had a lovely lunch at Ima Izakaya yesterday! I tried out the Spicy Kimchi Udon and my friend and I shared the mushroom dumplings. The dumplings were a tasty start to the meal. They were crispy, yet still soft. The sauce added a nice spice to the overall taste too. I looooved my udon noodles! So full of flavor and a good amount of spice. I also added chicken, and had a good amount leftover to take home with me! We sat outside on the patio, and although it was pretty warm out we stayed comfortable with both of the fans blowing. Service was still quick and attentive outside! I definitely look forward to trying out more on their menu at my next visit.

Yelp
Nice interior design. Clean. Friendly staff. Fast service. I came here on a weekend for an early dinner and we were sat right away. I've been to the other 2 locations but it was my 1st time here. They have a larger menus with entree options that you can't get at the other locations. I've always loved the shrimp dumplings, so I order all the dumpling options they had on their menu: shrimp, mushroom, and lamb. They were all really good. The sauce that comes with it is amazing! For dinner we got the shrimp pho and the beef pho. The beef was very tender! The shrimp pho was amazing! I love Ima! I highly recommend this place. Oh and one thing I like which is very minor but I appreciate that they had a table in the bathroom so I could set my purse down to wash my hands.

Yelp
The ambiance was good; little loud for my taste. But the seating layout it's inevitable to be a louder restaurant. Service was good, waitress was knowledgeable and attentive. Food was pretty good. The curry chicken was great; the chicken was not seasoned but the curry sauce was so that made the dish good. The dumplings were really good: we had lamb and mushroom...I loved the lamb ones. They were stuffed and cooked perfectly. The fries were FIRE!!! I'm not a fry person but baby those were really good!! Our drinks were good....I had the colada one and loved it.

Yelp
We stopped in for lunch. From the Robata Grill we had all of the skewers to share. They were very good! Our server was most helpful and checked in on us several times. We ate outdoors and it was very clean and comfortable. Finally, we split a bowl of Pork Tonkotsu Ramen. It was spicy and delicious! I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
I brought a group of seniors here for our monthly lunch club and I was a little afraid it would be a little different for them but they loved it! The food was excellent, the service amazing and we were able to sit on the back patio by ourselves which was a big plus. The only thing I wish were different was my choice. I chose a tuna dish and wasn't quite what I thought but was only because I chose wrong. I'm sure for others it would be delicious. Will definitely try again and choose something different.

Yelp
We'll, this was one of the most interesting and enjoyable meals I have had in a long time. Every dish here was a surprise and a delight. I wish I lived here so I could go back and back again until I had tried the whole menu! Vibe inside is like a chill nightclub (complete with disco lights). Medium loud, but still perfectly reasonable for conversing across the table. Probably not great for a large group, but what a fabulous date night spot. Most of the dinners here on my visit were in twos. Lovely wooden tables with both bench seating and chairs. This is a smallish place, but it never felt uncomfortably packed. They use the space well. Excellent service. We had a very sweet waitress. Knowledgable, great recommendations, checked on us regularly. Several other servers brought us dishes throughout, as things were ready. They felt like they kept us waiting, but we didn't even notice it. They brought us a mochi at the end of our meal as an apology for the wait we didn't notice so very kind of them! Miso sesame cucumber salad - yum! Lovely dressing, very refreshing. String miso flavor, which I loved. Super creamy, think sliced cucumber chunks. Would definitely order again. Robata pork skewer - excellent glaze! Beautiful pork! These are big chunks! Also, holy moly, whatever they do to these babies, the fat just melts on your mouth like custard. Outstanding experience. I could easily see just ordering several of these and calling it a day it's one piece per order, but it's a big piece. I was worried that it seemed expensive before I put in my mouth, but that went right out the window as soon as I tasted it. 17/10, would order again, and frequently. Whisky steak - so much better even than it sounded in print! The fries are the large flat steak fry variety, the steak itself was a perfect medium rare, at our request. The sauce was a poem. I could dip everything in it! But you will not believe the miracle of a culinary experience that was the mushrooms in this dish! I normally avoid mushrooms because they're usually squeaky and squishy texturally in a way that I find off-putting, regardless of flavor. I keep trying to like them, tho, because they're so good for you and because my partner loves them...so I acquiesced and tried the last mushroom on the plate when he offered it. My regrets were immediate. I wish I had eaten them all. I wish these were their own menu item so I could order a whole plate of them! I tried to pry the chef's secret out of our waitress. All she knew was that they smoke them. Oh. My. God. The softest, most unctuous, melty experience. No squeakiness, no weird rubber texture, no chewy nonsense...just utter delight. What a joy! I still can't get over it a week later! Lamb katsu - this is a grind lamb patty, so I was worried it might be dry or boring. What was I thinking?? This was incredible. The flavor was so comforting, the spices perfectly balanced, no gamey flavor at all, absolutely delicious. The breading was light, perfectly crispy, just the right thickness, and the most skillfully even golden brown. The tonkotsu sauce accompanying it was maybe the best I have ever had. The thinly sliced (pickled?) cabbage salad that it came with complimented it wonderfully. Mango mochi - just the right amount of mochi on the outside with a lovely mellow mango ice cream on the inside, just the right level of sweetness and flavor. Some mochi's have too thick of a mochi later for me, but not this one. I would love to try all of their flavors! What a wonderful experience this was. I look forward to all future trips to Detroit for the chance to try more of this exciting and inspiring food.

Yelp
Ima is my favorite restaurant in Detroit, it's not even a competition. The food is always so good and flavorful. My favorites are the steak skewers, mushroom dumplings, and tofu karaage. And if you're vegan, vegetarian, or have allergies they're great. I believe the only nut products they use are coconut that is in one of the desserts. The drinks are also good, and pretty strong. Servers here are great and always ask if your party has any allergies.

Yelp
Went to Ima with a friend who was visiting from NY and once again Ima didn't disappoint. We sat at the bar and our bartender Ashley was very sweet and gave great suggestions. I ordered the ginger Tori with udon noodles and it was perfectly rich and filling. The space is large and even has an out door patio space. There was a sake we attempted to order but Ashley informed us it was no longer sold there so does seem the menu could use some updating. The alternative panda sake we ordered was great so no huge loss and we even got to take the cup home! Always have loved Ima and glad to have it in the city

Yelp
I was so happy to see so many delicious vegan options on the menu and clearly notated, which made ordering easy. It's not a big place but it's a cozy spot for date night or dinner with friends. For starters, we tried the mushroom dumplings, the house pickles and ordered the spicy bok choy but it was never put in because they were bringing out our entrees so we just skipped it and will try it next time. The dumplings were excellent and the house pickles are worth a taste if you like pickled things like I do, I liked the refreshing crunch of the different pickled vegetables. For mains, I went with a warm udon bowl with Yuzu miso broth. The bowl is huge and the broth had great flavor. I ordered without any protein but it came with tofu anyway, they offered to remake it but since I have no issues with soy I just ate around it as I am not a big tofu fan. There is a lot on the menu I would still like to try and look forward to going back and leaving room for dessert. If you enjoy a cocktail or drink with your meal, there is an extensive drink menu including shareable cocktails, low ABV cocktails, zero proof, and specialty drinks. Note that most parking nearby is street parking so you may have a little bit of a walk and I would recommend making a reservation, especially in the weekend.

Yelp
Hi! Just popping in to say this place is still fantastic! Ate here for a team lunch in July 2024 and everything was SO GOOD as expected. We were originally reserved outside dining due to our large party size but it was wayyyy too hot out. The wait staff was super accommodating and moved us inside. Everyone enjoyed their dishes and said they would come back!

J K.

Yelp
This was my first time trying Ima and they got our order wrong. We were wanting to try both the ramen and udon but when we received our UberEats order both were ramen. I'm sooo sad.

Yelp
I've been to Ima in Midtown a couple of times and finally got the chance to check out the Izakaya location in Corktown for a work dinner. There were 4 of us and we split 3 appetizers. The seasoning on the edamame was delicious and they give you a generous portion, I don't think we finished all of it. The dumplings were also quite good. I loved the spicy tuna dip as well and the crackers are super satisfying to crunch into. I got the spicy tori udon with pork belly as my entrée and the pork belly was so soft and tender and basically melted in my mouth. The spice level isn't anything crazy but it adds a little extra to the broth. I loved the flooring and the disco ball in this space. I learned that it was from an old gymnasium which is really cool! Bathrooms were clean but the tables are a little close together. Our server was so kind and quick with recommendations when we were unsure about a few of the menu items. We got mochi for dessert, my only complaint there was that the matcha did not taste like matcha at all but it was all still very yummy!
google avatar

Kevin G.

Yelp
Damn fine happy hour menu with plenty of options. Recently had the tofu, shisto peppers, and a spicy tuna roll. Only way to improve the menu is more cocktails on the happy hour drink menu. Prefer spirits over beer or wine.
google avatar

Crea H.

Yelp
Yesterday I tried the Spicy Pork Belly Ramen and I'm already making plans to come back again!! Also the Thicc Fries are EVERYTHING!!
google avatar

Kelly Y.

Yelp
The tofu!!! The thicc fries!! The purple drinks!! All of it was amazing. We made a reservation for a large group of 10. For large groups, the only availability is outside on the patio, which was a very cute area to be! The only complaint was it was a little warm that day. However, the patio was shaded! The staff were wonderful! They were able to keep most of our orders straight, which was impressive for such a big group. For the very few mistakes, they quickly made it up to us. We left full and happy.
google avatar

Nicole H.

Yelp
Phenomenal!! Food was amazing! My boyfriend and I went for apps and drinks. I was most surprised by the miso sesame cucumbers.. the flavor was amazing. There were so many other dishes on the menu that I wanted to try, so will definitely be back! Great location & cute interior. Perfect for a date night.
google avatar

John N.

Yelp
Got the spicy pork Ramen! It was phenomenal!!! The beer was okay, and the pickled app was great!

Yelp
This was a new place for us. We were a party of four and we had a great time! We had a 5pm reservation and it was Happy Hour great menu with plenty of options for $5 we had the sushi, chicken, glass of the day it was great. The menu has something g for everyone . I had the noodles with soft egg and pork belly and it was amazing. The pork belly was sooo delicious!! I wanted more! Plenty of food and maybe leftover with some of the dishes. I slurped mine up. I was only going to stick with wine but someone in our party suggested the Hand Crafted Cocktail. The Old Fashion on their list is stunning, smooth and so good!!! We will definitely be back. Our waitress was very attentive and had great service from everyone from front of house to our waitress I can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Jessica M.

Yelp
Delicious! Great spot for ramen, udon and pho. Awesome service, and great vibes. A must try.
google avatar

Ambirr M.

Yelp
The food was decent the server really sucked she never came to check on us after drink or food delivery it just was a waste of time we completely ignored by the server to the point we asked for a manager which was great she was so attentive and helped resolve the issues we had
google avatar

Yelp
I stopped in towards the tail end of a large group's dinner. Was a party of 12 total, and we were seated on the patio which was really nice on a beautiful summer evening. Loved the colorful and tropical walls/decor on the patio as well. I just joined to have a drink, and ordered the Highs and Lows cocktail - Toasted Coconut Mezcal, Orange Liqueur, Agave, Lime, Jamaican spice. This was SO good!! Overall pretty light and refreshing but with some complexity from the mezcal and spice. I loved it so much I got a second one :). Everyone else's drinks looked beautiful and fun - all are well presented. Service was really nice and seemed to take care of the whole group well. So this review is mostly just about the cocktails and service! Have not tried the food yet, but look forward to coming back!
google avatar

Yelp
Second time I've tried them in past 2 months. Still think it's the best Ramen in Michigan. Waitress was very attentive and food came out quickly. Inside was lively and fun. Different areas inside and outside to eat and chill.
google avatar

Maya R.

Yelp
HAPPY HOUR me please!!! The vibes were perfect for either group dinner or cute date night. The food here was some of the BEST small plate/shareables I've ever had in Detroit. The Fried Chicken Katsu was our tables favorite, I think we ordered 5 of them LOL. Chicken Meatballs were succulent and super tasty. If you like to ensure you get some tasty veggies, highly recommend the Sautéed Bok Choi, it paired so well with the other tasty meats. Only thing I wasn't a fan of was the salt fish jerky was not what I was expecting and it wasn't that good to me. If you're a fan of chewy fish and I mean hard chewy, then be my guest. Service? On 10, our waiter knew the menu well and made some super tasty suggestions AND he kept coming back to get more orders in and ensure we made the most of happy hour! Street parking was available and charged by the hour.

Chelsea Y.

Yelp
A detroit staple and my partner's favorite restaurant in Michigan. The chicken karaage was moist and had a great umami seasoning. The ramen was flavorful and definitely had a good level of spice compared to other ramen spots in michigan. Skewers are good but also pricier for the amount you get
google avatar

Gerry M.

Yelp
Just jumping in to Japanese cuisine! The art and presentation is spectacular. We sat at the bar and Alex was great explaining and recommending. The udon was great with the smoked pork. Very large bowl and enough to split. Cant beat the 5 dollar apps!
google avatar

Yelp
I happened to be in Detroit for a conference and ended up with some free time. I had a HUGE craving for sushi and ramen and I didn't know what to do! I looked up some local spots and picked out Ima Izakaya - and I'm so glad I did! I made it in time for happy hour. My server went over some of his favorites from the menu. Based on his recommendation, I grabbed a salmon handroll from the happy hour menu. It turned out to be the perfect appetizer. I also ordered the Porcini Forest Udon. It was HEAVEN. It was exactly what I was craving. Around me, I saw so many people eating other udons and the ramen. It definitely seems to be their specialty. The inside of the restaurant was cozy but bright. The decor was inviting and it gave the space a relaxing and calm feeling, like it's a great place to come after work! They also had a full bar - also showing it's a great place to come after work! It's a shame I don't live in Detroit - I would be coming back here every week!

Yelp
This is my first time coming here, and we really loved it. We started with the spicy tuna dip. It was delicious! I highly recommend it. The crisps were good on their own, combined with the dip was great. My friend got the beef pho and loved it. I got the spicy tori ramen and it was so good. It had a perfect spice level and the broth was deliciously. I loved it.

Yelp
This was my first time visiting Ima Izakaya, and upon entry I was greeted with a smile from the hostess! She quickly sat us down and throughly explained the menu! Initially I was going to order the Spicy Ramen Tonkotsu, but our hostess recommended that I order the regular Tonkotsu and she'll bring me the chili paste and oil on the side since it was my first time. The food was delicious and I ended up adding the chili paste and oil to my ramen, so I will be getting spicy next time! I went during lunch and the service was great. I was in and out in a timely manner. This restaurant is intimate enough for a date night or open enough to enjoy a happy hour with coworkers. Definitely recommend and looking forward to returning.

Therresa B.

Yelp
I love the food! The star of the show is the cirashi sushi platter and the pork belly skewer definitely. I am a big fan of izakaya and this place is proof why izakaya is such an amazing type of food. The grill set is super worth to try! My favorites were the pork belly and the chicken meatball. I thought the fish was also an interesting addition to try. It came with their special sauce which complemented everything so well. The sushi platter was everything I loved about sushi in one plate. And their hand roll was really tasty! I loved it! Also, the service was really good. We were late to our reservation but they called us and we could keep it. It was my date night perfect!

Rachael H.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my time at Ima. I got the kimchi udon and it was delicious! We also got the cumin lamb dumplings which I really enjoyed. My partner got the steak which he thought was good, but not his favorite. The vibes of Ima are great, I will be returning!
google avatar

Yana G.

Yelp
I had the pork belly skewer, the yaki udon , and salmon roll. I was too hungry to take pictures however everything was good!!! Service was great and ambia

Toni N.

Yelp
This is the best place to eat in Detroit! The food is very unique compared to all the other food in the Detroit metro area. The service was amazing, our server Dylan gave us great recommendations for food and it did not disappoint. He even took my coat to hang it up which I was surprised to see at a restaurant here. I would highly recommended the udon noodles or ramen ( any flavors), but I would especially recommend getting the pork belly! The area and restaurant is very trendy. Parking is somewhat difficult, but we were able to find something about 2 blocks away. I would spare maybe 5 ish extra min to find a parking spot.
google avatar

Yelp
Great service and good food. The Pho shrimp is great. The atmosphere is swanky. The location is convenient. Parking is easy. A great date night location.

Yelp
I just love Ima so much - both locations! But this one has such a great patio. The food this time was just exceptional - we had lots of things - always the house pickles and fried chicken karage bites, and this time the lamb dumplings and blistered shishito peppers; hubby ordered the teppan whisky steak entree and I had the chilean sea bass. The shishito pepers are really good - a large portion with yummy tangy seasonings, and both entrees were absolutely so good. Perfectly cooked and seasoned with great accompaniments. I'm already looking forward to returning for these very same dishes, though so many things are great on the menu. I also love their mocktails - I had the hana soda which has just the right amount of sweetness and lots of flavor. Maybe a bit pricey for a mocktail at $10, but when you want something special that's n/a, Ima has you covered. Service was friendly and good as usual. I just love it here.

Yelp
I'm obsessed with the decor in this place and the music is on point. Cocktails all awesome and the service was good, too. My favorite dish was probably the cucumber salad. Definitely get it as it's a nice fresh bite between other dishes. Also enjoyed the salmon handroll but I've had better. Shishito peppers had nice flavor and there was a very generous portion. Karaage kind of disappointed -- it was good but the batter was not what I'd expect from an Izakaya. It had a much mealier, different texture. The calamari was probably the weakest. It was limp and chewy, wouldn't order again. I'm looking forward to returning again and trying some other dishes -- curry, dumplings, noodles, etc. because everything passing by going to other tables always looks excellent.
