Would NOT recommend this restaurant. Period. We recently ate there for a family reunion of 25 people, we had made the reservation a couple months in advance, and also gave them the complete order of food from their set menu a month in advance - meaning they had a full MONTH to plan for us. The meal, app, entre and average desert was $70 per person - this was not a cheap meal.
First, it was one of the few nights they opened the Gondola up to a happy hour at the top, we stood in line for almost an hour, in 90 heat, and come to find out, that that line was not for the restaurant - in other words, they did not tell anyone we could go to the front until we almost were there. The space is pretty much outdated, maybe 90's, but for a so called 'nice' restaurant at the top of a beautiful mountain, not good, oh, and it gets HOT in steamboat, which we were at the top floor, all glass and NO AC, they had to bring in a few portable AC units, that was great too
Without going into too much detail, out of the 20 meals (the others were kids meals), 5 of them had to be sent back because they were either over cooked or under cooked, several more, including the dried over cooked duck that I got could have been sent back as well. One order of filet was twice the size of everyone elses, or everyone elses was half of what it should be. Some of the orders that were sent back, still came back under cooked (most fine restaurants keep lamb together when cooked and then slice right before serving, they (over) cooked each individual piece. Remember, we gave them a MONTH to plan this out, AND we were the ONLY people in the restaurant! Took a while and a manager finally came out, for a 'fine dining' restaurant, she had no clue about service, she was defensive and although tried to help, you can tell she was more annoyed than concerned. I tried to call a few days later to talk to her, but they never called back. I have a background in the food service industry, tried to give them the benefit, but this was simply bad all the way around. When you have that much time to prepare, there is no reason for such poorly executed food, and poorly executed service by the manager. To give something to compare too, we ate at Mambo's in town, it was AWESOME, service was the best we had ever seen for that large of a group, food was incredible - granted, it was not as complicated as what we had at Hazies, but it is not hard to cook lamb medium, or filet mid rare. If you want a GREAT place to eat at, go to Mambo's NOT Hazies, do the happy hour up there, but DO NOT EAT there!
