Yelp
TLDR; Great food, Worst experience with Jeanie.
We came here with excited anticipation after our foodie friend had given us a glowing recommendation of this place. Our friend wasn't wrong about the food - it was generous, and the smoked salmon was special. But the unwelcome attitude from a negligent staff member, Jeannie (Jeanie? Not sure spelling). She's the staff member who wears a green baseball cap.
As it was our 1st time here, we weren't too clear on the process of ordering. It looked like there were tables outside, and a line at the register. Since we came in through the back, we thought naturally we were supposed to get in line. I see a table outside being cleared by Jeanie, so I go up and ask her:
"Hi! Will this table be open?"
She looks up at me with a condescending smile, and asks me in a tone very similar to the look she gives me: "Did you put your name down?"
I tell her no, and apologize since it was my first time there. I then ask her where I can put my name down, and if the line at the front was it.
She proceeds to give me very ambiguous answers, cheekily telling me that there's a "girl walking around with a clip board", and that this is "table service" so I can't just grab a table. Also, she tells me that the "girl's name is Avery." How should I know who Avery is? Also, I was by no means aggressively trying to "grab a table"; I was merely trying to get the proper instructions on how to even order. She continues to not be helpful, as if delighting in my confusion, a smirk perpetually on her face.
I go back to my boyfriend, who was waiting in the line at the counter. It turns out to be the line for takeout. Jeanie then walks up to our line with a clipboard and starts taking names down. When she gets to us, she once again, clarifies that it is table service (not sure where this unwarranted condescension is coming from. We literally were as polite as can be) and asks us if we want to sit outside. We say yes, we do.
After putting our names down, my boyfriend asks her where we should wait for our names to be called. She gestures vaguely outside. He then asks her who will be calling our names. We're so confused at this point bc there seemed to be no structure to this process, so we just wanted to make sure we didn't miss our names being called. The conversation goes somewhat like this:
My BF: Will you be here calling our names when our table is ready?
Jeannie: Me? Will *I* be here? What do you mean??? (very sarcastic talk-back like attitude, emphasis on "I")
My BF: Yes. Or someone else. We're not sure where we should be waiting or who to look for.
Jeannie: We'll be here ALLLLLL day. (again, dripping with sarcasm, not answering our question at all, but at this point we are so put off by her attitude that we don't want to continue talking to her)
Our table is called very quickly. Our food arrives pretty quickly too. We ordered the Salmon Scramble and the Salmon Egg Wrap. Portions were great, price was on the more expensive side. The other servers constantly forgot to give us water, which would normally be understandable as things get busy, but we were already so miffed by our interaction with Jeannie that it was just fuel to the fire. During the whole meal, we were just talking about how unwarranted Jeanie's condescension and sarcasm was. It honestly spoiled the meal for us. She was the first person we talked to when entering, and that first impression matters a lot. I'm honestly appalled at her unprofessionalism.
I really wanted to like this place. It's not everyday you find a cool deli that specializes in smoked salmon. If it weren't for Jeanie, we probably would've had a great time here.
Cashier lady was nice though. She was lovely.
Paid parking lot in the back.
