27 Old Compton Street - Review - Soho - London - The Infatuation

"At 27 Old Compton Street, tables of one or two have an informally allotted 45 minutes to scarf their pasta before the next round of Soho revellers come in to do the same. An endearingly shoulder-knocking space, this Italian spot makes all of its chewy pastas by hand. The mafaldi is nice, if a little too chewy, the rustici is a little cloying, and the sauces do the job. That said, every bowl is close to £10 and comes out within minutes. It’s also open until 1am at weekends which feels useful for daydreamers of the old days and, with the help of a drum and bass remix of ‘Dreams’ by Fleetwood Mac, you’ll leave feeling like you’ve eaten in a proper Soho Italian restaurant. photo credit: Jake Missing Food Rundown Mafalda Beef Ragu These long ribbons could have done with five more seconds in the pot, but it’s still good pasta. The sauce is rich and pleasingly slick but the beef needed a little more love. Where these chunks should be flaking apart, they’re instead a little chewy. photo credit: Jake Missing Rustici Pesto The cavolo nero pesto in this sauce is nicely emulsified with pasta water and the handful of crushed pistachio on top is a nice touch. The pasta is sadly inconsistent. Stuck together and cloying in parts, perfect bites in others. photo credit: Jake Missing" - Jake Missing

Really, really good pasta. Excellent value, honestly. It's about time, too. Small venue with fast owned bookings, so reserve first. Ragu, chicken and mushroom pasta were great. Will be back to try more! They are cooked al dente so if you're not a fan of this you should mention it!

Delicious Italian food! The staff were friendly and accommodating - we didn’t have a booking and they easily got us a table. That kind of place where you want to go for a quick Italian bite, before or after a show. Definitely coming back!

My colleagues and I walked in hoping to have a quick lunch and, even though there were no tables available, they kindly made space for the three of us. We sat down and were kindly greeted by the staff, who was amazing throughout our time there. There were some fantastic options, so it was difficult to choose but I landed on the pumpkin ravioli with sage butter which was amazing. The pasta was the perfect portion and the balance between the sweet pumpkin flavour and the herby sage was on point! My colleagues and I were really curious to try their mini doughnuts and they ended up being the star of the show! Warm and creamy pistachio filling, sweet but crunchy outside, sprinkled with some powdered sugar and paired with a genuine pistachio ice cream. Overall, this was an amazing lunch experience in Soho. Affordable but without compromising on taste and service. Would visit again!

This is small cosy Italian restaurant in Soho London. I was greeted with a smile on the face and true Italian accent. The waiter was very attentive and the restaurant has a cosy feel. The ragú pasta that I ordered was super tasty. If you are after a tasty dish with authentic feel yet for reasonable price you cannot go wrong with this place. 😊 I need to come back to try the pumpkin ravioli!!

No reservation policy for this pasta bar. Popped in for a late bite after the theatre. Food was prepared and served quickly. Chose cacio e pepe which was delicious - al dente pasta in a creamy and peppery sauce which hit the spot. In and out within less than 45 minutes. Great food.

Such a lovely place for a late dinner. We loved all the food and the staff were really nice too. I would 100% recommend you to get the dessert - there was so much pistachio cream in the gnocchi we loved it! The mortadella flatbread was another favourite especially with the hot honey on top

Great spot in central that is very yummy and great big portions. They had run out of the pasta type we were after but the ragú was still nice. Highlight was absolutely the mortadella flatbread it was amazing.
