28 Tigers is a must try. We sampled a few different dishes and every single one was packed with flavor and cooked perfectly. The atmosphere was welcoming and the service was on point. We will definitely be back. The presentation of each dish was thoughtful and everything came out fresh and hot. You can tell the kitchen takes pride in what they create. This place is perfect for date night or a night out with friends.

I’d been set on eating here for days, and despite my girlfriend “forgetting” our plan a few times, I made sure we made it happen. Totally worth it. The vibes were great and the food even better. My spicy chicken had just the right kick, and her lo-mein? Best we’ve ever had. By the end of the meal, she went from skeptical to wishing we could come back the very next day. Safe to say this spot is locked in as a must-visit whenever we’re in town.

To be honest, I didn't want to eat here. My boyfriend found this place (he loves spicy Asian food) and I didn't think I'd enjoy it (I'm not a spicy food connoisseur). However, this was the best lo-mein I've ever had. 10/10. I wanted to go back the next day before our flight but we didn't have time. I tried his spicy chicken and it was good too! I did accidentally take a pepper with it and almost died but over-all great experience and will visit again on the next trip :)

We went to 28 Tigers, which is located on the same lot as Holy Ghost and Pan Con Queso. All three share a restroom in the back, and according to the Holy Ghost website, they don’t serve much food themselves but encourage customers to order delivery from either 28 Tigers or Pan Con Queso. This suggests that the businesses may be related, or at least closely coordinated. The interior of 28 Tigers is compact but thoughtfully arranged. There are two counter seating areas—three seats by the left-hand window as you enter, and three more directly ahead. In addition, there’s a large communal table along the left wall that can seat around 8–10 people. This is a fast-casual setup: you choose your food from the menu and place your order at the counter. Although the space is small, it’s clean, stylish, and has a cheerful, energetic vibe. The staff were clearly preparing for a busy evening, but they were upbeat, smiling, and working together with great energy. The overall atmosphere was very warm and welcoming. We ordered the Sesame Noodles ($14 + $5 for ginger poached chicken), Dan Dan Noodles ($18), Garlic Chive Dumpling ($13), Char Siu Pork Bao ($14), and a pot of Jasmine Tea ($4). The sesame noodles were delicious—highly recommend adding the chicken if you eat meat. It was like a soft, tender version of bang bang chicken. The Dan Dan noodles were generously topped with seasoned ground meat; the flavor was bold, and I personally thought a few fresh vegetables (like the cucumber in the sesame noodles) could help balance the richness. The Char Siu Pork Bao were generously stuffed with tender, well-marinated pork, and very satisfying. The dumplings also had a flavorful, densely packed filling that made them very hearty. Overall, everything we tried was delicious and satisfying. If I had to mention one downside, it would be the limited seating due to the small space. But aside from that, the food was excellent across the board, and I would happily return. It’s also a great idea to grab a drink at Holy Ghost next door and enjoy food from 28 Tigers while you're there.😊✨

Google
I'd been patiently waiting for my date here, and we were both absolutely blown away by how fantastic the ginger chicken bao was! The vibe of 28 Tigers is special, I love the casual feel, the open kitchen with all it's cluttered glory, the friendly employees, and, wow, the food! I'll be coming back to try hopefully everything else from the menu, as it's a concise menu, not what you might be used to seeing at a typical Chinese restaurant.

Google
A small, unassuming place with very good food. Everything was fresh and flavorful. Highly recommend the roast pork bao and crispy mushroom dumpling appetizers.

Google
This is a great little hidden gem of a place. The Dan Dan Noodles are excellent - kind of sweet and definitely mild on the spicy scale. But even as someone who generally prefers things hotter, I was really happy with them. Went great with a side of the broccoli, which was fresh and perfectly al dente. Staff is friendly and it was nice to sit outside in the evening shade from the building. Adding to my list of yummy food in town and will absolutely be back.

Kate B.

Google
Oh, my. This place is OUTSTANDING. Stumbled upon it on Google Maps and just by food pictures knew we had to come. Pork Dan Dan noodles, chicken baos, and dumplings - thought for sure the two of us would be taking leftovers home but we definitely devoured it all. Staff was super nice and seemed to enjoy working there. Highly recommend!

Yelp
We love it! Delicious vegan options and a chill spot to eat, drink, and listen to their strong LP collection. We typically get two orders of broccoli and two sides of rice. Last night, they wisely brought the broccoli in one beautifully gigantic pan (see photos) . Our dream come true. p.s. The egg rolls are also yummy.
google avatar

Yelp
Had a really good noodles here tonight with barbecue duck and some veg and they were oily goodness. Place is really close to us to ride over the bridge. They have a great selection of food here and not overwhelmingly stacked on the menu but enough to make a choice on but everything seems to be delicious. I really like the texture of the egg noodles and I like the thick ones too. They have a good variety of stuff. And the ends of the duck are a little crispy, which I like.
google avatar

Jim H.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite places to get noodles in Portland. I've had several of their options and they're all fantastic. Don't sleep on the broccoli and pot stickers, they're both fantastic. Definitely stop here if you can, or if you're next door at Holy Ghost!
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic food for a very reasonable price. The garlic chive dumplings were sturdy, flavorful and delicious! The dipping sauce was also worth noting. Fantastic. I got the chicken lo mein while my husband got the pork lo mein. AMAZING! They have a beautifully seasoned wok and it shows. We will be back again and probably again and again....

Christopher F.

Yelp
Excellent food, cool as all get out interior and exterior. Would be sweet to live in this neighborhood

Jeff M.

Yelp
This place is incredible! They can get busy but I see why, thier food is excellent! We had the egg roll, Hong Kong Noodles, and Mushroom dumplings. All excellent. They make thier own Chinese mustard. Hottest I have ever tried. Will be back for more!
google avatar

Frank C.

Yelp
Heard a lot of good things about 28 Tigers so, while I was at Holy Ghost bar, I figured I'd try them for dinner. They make it so easy! I ordered the Chicken Lo Mein and it was delivered to my seat within minutes. From the first bite to the last, all I could think was: Immensely Satisfying!
google avatar

Vindhya G.

Yelp
Be extremely careful when eating here if you have nut allergies. I'm deathly allergic to peanuts (if ingested) and scoured the menu to make sure the items I ordered didn't have nuts in them. The menu description of the chicken bao I ordered had no notation of nuts or allergens however after my first bite I started going into anaphylaxis. My friend ran to the counter to ask what was in the dish, and the cook nonchalantly shrugs and says "Oh yeah, we make those with peanut butter" Are you kidding?!?! There was no warning of any kind on the menu that CHICKEN BAO were made with peanut butter. Worse there was no "sorry", no "is everyone ok", nothing. Be wary and ask about every dish if you have any food allergies.
google avatar

Sara S.

Yelp
Fantastic flavorful Chinese dishes; cute atmosphere, especially on summer days, to sit out side. Lovely staff!!! Friendly and easy.

Ona d.

Yelp
Every single items were dripping in cups of oil. The flavor is good but the amount of oil is gross. Some people who don't mind oil will probably like it. We will not be returning.
google avatar

Elinor M.

Yelp
The Hong Kong Noodles were incredibly tasty and so artfully presented on the plate. The vegetarian crispy mushroom dumpling was perfectly fried and lovely. It's a small restaurant with big character.

Terry W.

Yelp
I'm very impressed by your food, I had Hong Kong noodles and a New York egg roll. Can't wait for next time! Thank you!
google avatar

William N.

Yelp
The absolute best food ever with a kitchen I would die for. Sounds a little off, but trust me on this... these green beans were absolutely ridiculous. I have been all over the world and know "green bean" in 3 languages. I'm telling you not to sit next to your momma, cause you're gonna slap her after you eat one of those beans.
google avatar

Brad P.

Yelp
Outstanding food, great neighborhood vibes all around. Small place with limited indoor seating and outdoor tables, perfect for nice weather and meeting people. We loved it and we'll be back for certain! 28 Tigers is right next to the Holy Ghost bar, and people freely go from one to another. 28 Tigers has a modest selection of canned beers, ciders and some liquor, so if you need more just go next door. As others have mentioned, the sheer intensity of the dishes is remarkable. We had the Dan Dan noodles with pork and the amazing garlic infused green beans, and I'm salivating just thinking about it. Super punchy flavors with complexity and flawless texture, simply some of best Chinese in Portland. We can't wait to try the rest of the menu!
google avatar

Lakshmi M.

Yelp
You know when you eat somewhere and the dish is so memorable, you end up trying to make it at home? I'll say that's what 28 Tigers turned into for me. I came by on a random weeknight to catch up with some friends and of course I had to try the dan dan noodles with seitan and the mushroom wontons. My friends got the dan dan meat version and the broccoli to share as well~ The mushroom wontons had a nice crisp/crunch and were super tasty! Would definitely order again. The dan dan noodles ahhh they had the perfect level of spice and zing without being too hot and were honestly the best combination of savory, umami, tingling. I honestly tried to recreate them at home because I just kept thinking about how good they were. The broccoli was tasty with a nice bite as well! My friends both liked their food as well. All in all, this place is quite petite with a small menu that they execute well. I appreciate the vegetarian options that feel like they are staples rather than afterthoughts or random additions. Prices are fair for the food and service was very friendly. Drive/walk/jump/swim over for some delicious goods when you get a chance! *The street parking can either be really easy or annoyingly hard*
google avatar

Shang M.

Yelp
One of the best Chinese food experiences we had in Portland. Food was simply amazing - flavorful, unique, and authentic. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Steven B.

Yelp
It's a petite venue with a few places to sit inside and a couple tables outside. It wasn't an problem being seated. The menu is a short list of dishes but it's no problem finding enough to order. The green beans were perfectly blistered with a nice smoky flavor and crumbled pork. The garlic and chive dumplings were nicely flavored with ample portions of a fairly fence pork meat filling. The shrimp toast was extraordinary, succulent with a crunchy sesame layer on one side.

Nelson H.

Yelp
I had the Dan Dan Noodles, which were amazing. The service was quick and the food reasonably priced. Just a heads up if you haven't been here before, the door is around the corner from Holy Ghost and Pan con Queso.
google avatar

Metro N.

Yelp
Holy cow, I could eat here every day. The spicy mustard. The garlic broccoli. The everything. Get the smoked chili crisp. Oh. Boy.
google avatar

Stephanie D.

Yelp
Love the quickness here! You can be in and out, take it next door(Holy Ghost), to-go. Love the options! The food is also really good! The chicken is actually spicy which I can appreciate! The dumplings are also a must but sell out. So go early! The Dan Dan noodles are also delicious!! Great spot!!
google avatar

Cynthia L.

Yelp
Super friendly service + incredibly flavorful and well seasoned food. Definitely recommend the smoky green beans. Would come back for this dish alone. Dan Dan noodles were heavy on flavor with good chew. More smoky and spiced than what I'd normally find for this dish. Not bad, just an unexpected take. Try it out and see for yourself.
google avatar

Yelp
28 Tigers is a new eatery complementing the Holy Ghost bar. The pepper bath chicken is is a simple dish of chicken, peppers, peppercorns, and spring onions served with rice. Yes, the chicken picks up the hot spice. Some salt becomes apparent at the dish cools. The garlic broccoli is broccoli, sweet red peppers, and garlic in a soy-sesame sauce. The sesame oil is not overdone and it has a slight sweetness. The fried mushroom dumplings are a must have. Inside are sweet caramelized onions, and I believe shiitaki mushrooms. They come with a hot sweet mustard dipping sauce they should bottle! They are take-out now, or you can eat your order inside or outside at Holly Ghost, where the strong flavors will stand up to what they are serving.

Yelp
I do admit that I'm bit of a stickler when it comes to food. We went out to celebrate Chinese new year, but didn't want to go to far. This place had really good reviews so we decided to give it a try. We started off with the Garlic Chive dumplings and those were do die for! I could've been content with just those and I told my friend next time we should just order 10,000 of them. Crispy, flaky, and packed full of flavor, these dumplings had me dreaming of them well after we left. For the main course I had the Chicken Chow Fun (rice noodles). Usually I'm looking around for the condiments (Sriacha, soy sauce, etc) before I try, but I thought heck let's eat some first. Let me tell you, no extra sauce is needed! My friend ordered the same thing and no words were spoken because the food was that darn good. Great service overall, I'll definitely will be back!
google avatar

Tommy H.

Yelp
I love this place. It's small, unassuming. I've had the Dan Dan and Hong Kong Noodles and both were great. I'm looking forward to trying more things.

Chelsea S.

Yelp
The garlic and chive dumplings were good and had great flavor. I was unfortunately disappointed by the Hong Kong noodles. The pork was very dry and noodles were pretty bland.
google avatar

Linda N.

Yelp
The food here is so good. Definitely loved the chow fun and Hong Kong noodles! The space is small. However, if there are no tables you can take the food next door to Holy Ghost Bar :)
google avatar

Logan E.

Yelp
Was going with a friend to enjoy some beers at Ruse and decided to grab some food on the way. Ordered from 28 Tigers online and had a beer there while we waited. Excellent service, great location, and the food was well beyond my expectations. Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Steph S.

Yelp
Delicious, flavorful and addicting! Those wide noodles...get them! Sweet servers will bring your food over to Holy Ghost with a smile. Cannot recommend their food enough.
google avatar

Aaron S.

Yelp
Goodness, what lovely food. Everything had so much flavor and done with so much love. Very little joint. Looks like they do great take away and seem to have a lot of folk order for the Holy Ghost Bar next door. We'll be back. Probably get more dumplings, and the green beans - oh, they were so good.
google avatar

Louis T.

Yelp
Great tasting food. Ordered takeout and pickup was easy. Food was great and portions were a good size. Food was ready when we went to pickup around the time it said it would be ready, and then got a text about 3 minutes after we picked up food that it was ready for pickup. So don't wait for the text message . The food was so good it made up for this minor glitch.
google avatar

Steve B.

Yelp
Mind blown. I haven't eaten shrimp toast this good in a long time. Dan Dan Noodles is tasty. BBQ pork served with hot mustard is heaven in my mouth. We got take out because I was feeling under the weather and this food is making me feel way better about my cold. Friendly at the counter. Can't wait to dine in sometime.
google avatar

Jamie W.

Yelp
Amazing food! I especially loved the Dan Dan noodles and char siu bao. I'll return again.
google avatar

Tiva F.

Yelp
Modest space with nice people and delicious food. We got the two specials: duck buns & lamb dumplings. We liked both the Hong Kong and Dan Dan noodles! They serve Alumbra wine and that combination made our visit perfect. Food would also go well with beer. We bought some of their cute glasses too, $10 each. See you again soon!
google avatar

Charlie T.

Yelp
Friend got some food from this place as we were having drinks at Holy Ghost. The food here is pretty good and holds up well when taking it to-go. I really liked the dumpling, Dan Dan noodles, and the pepper bath chicken. (Didn't get to take photo before eating)

Maxine B.

Yelp
Hands down my favorite place to eat in Portland. Go to order is the dan dan noodles, green beans, and broccoli. The flavors are insane. I always get take out so I can't comment on the ambiance, but the food is incredible.
google avatar

Marc F.

Yelp
You want a Dua Lipa song I want a Chinese taste Like Siegfried and Roy's Vegas Thundercats coming your way I know you like to eat Navi to 28 You wanna Radish cake Tiger nosh ave is the place I know you're dying for Leafy Greens Noodles on the tip of your tongue Hot Peppers bathing your mouth You want the recipe for Wok Smoked Beans Tiger nosh avenue No matter what you do I'm gonna get it without ya Tiger nosh avenue I know you ain't used to Feline Alpha

Lisa G.

Yelp
Love the food!!!! Huge servings and yummy!! Pretty healthy too !! Meat fresh and tasty and chicken super tender
google avatar

Katie B.

Yelp
28 Tigers has a pretty small menu but they do it well. I got the garlic chive dumplings which are one of my favorites and the Dan Dan noodles. I like that you can choose seitan instead of pork on the noodles. The dumplings were delicious and I'd get it again. Dan Dan was good too, but just not my favorite noodle dish. I also tried bites of the spicy chicken which was fantastic - tons of Szechuan peppercorn! The green beans and pork were tasty too. For the perfect meal I'd do the chicken and an order of the garlic chive dumplings, accompanied by cocktails from next door Holy Ghost Bar. Good neighborhood option.
google avatar

Bubba Y.

Yelp
A decent evening of take-out. Our side of the table ordered the radish cake, green beans with ground pork, crispy mushroom dumpling, and the pepper bath chicken. All things considered, a fine meal. Loved the flavor of the green beans (hint: if you're not good with chopsticks, use a fork to eat the pork), the pepper bath chicken was flavorful without being spicy hot (a bit of a disappointment for the heat lovers but still tasty). The dumplings were good but the filling was a bit lacking in volume. And the radish cake, while tasty, was a bit of a disappointment in presentation and consistency - kind of mushy. $44 for the lot. We'll give it another try soon.
google avatar

Maro S.

Yelp
We've been so excited to check this place out since our first trip to Holy Ghost in January before 28 Tigers was open yet. It's so good. The green beans with pork were outstanding (fermented black beans! Haven't seen "beans & beans" since Lucky Strike! ), the chicken pepper bath was saucier than most I've had but spectacular flavor (the rice included was much appreciated!). I was not as blown away by the pork dumplings and honestly if I could half-star it I'd probably do that for the dumpling -- not because a place can't have some ups and downs, but if your staples are dumplings and noodles, well... BUT THE NOODLES. oh man, can't wait to come back for the others. The chewy bite of the Dan-Dan noodles and the flavor that wasn't overwhelming peanut and just all spice and umami and amazingness. Yes. Please. More of that forever. We will for sure be back to try all the things we missed this time!
google avatar

Marc W.

Yelp
Small little spot serving up some tasty food. Definitely need to explore the menu a bit to figure out our favorites (as some items were fine). Service was excellent, just nice folks. Will absolutely go again.
google avatar

Joseph V.

Yelp
This is a small but cozy restaurant with an open kitchen. I love how friendly and inviting they are and am always happy to find a Chinese restaurant with great vegetarian options. THANK YOU FOR THAT! The crispy mushroom dumpling appetizers were yummy and super hot. I burned my tongue on the first bite but it was so tasty I had to go back for more and burned it again. Haha! I would even do it again if given the chance because they were so delicious. I'll be back for more soon!
google avatar

Lisa Y.

Yelp
Fast, casual, no nonsense. The flavors were there and overall the food was good. They don't need to drown the food with sauce, too much oyster sauce in the noodles and soy sauce in the broccoli. The sesame noodles was a good way to balance out the salty flavors. The chow fun had a strong white pepper kick to it. I've had it and it good but not necessarily good enough for another visit.

Michael B.

Yelp
Great Chinese takeout in Portland, Oregon. I usually judge a restaurant by the cooking smells as I entered and I was not disappointed. Great food that met my need for something tasty and ready to take home to my family on time as promised!
google avatar

Karl A.

Yelp
Excellent dumplimgs and noodles to be cooked to order so it's fresh when served. Not a huge menu but enough variety to give some interesting choices, even if you want something meatless. They sort share the outdoor patio with Holy Ghost Bar so that's a good option for seating. Service was friendly!
google avatar

Greg G.

Yelp
Wowza! 28 Tigers creates amazing food in an understated environment. Great cocktails and very friendly and skilled staff. Be prepared for: 1) Completely casual - Order at the bar & find a seat (inside or in their outdoor seating areas). 2) This is actual Chinese food - Noodles, dumplings, char siu pork, and amazing things like daikon radish cake (a "Must Order," if ever there has been one) - no "Sweet and Sour X." 3) The menu is limited, but amazingly executed, and vegan-friendly - a couple of types of dumplings as appetizers, four noodle dishes, a special Szechuan chicken (which is perfect - and a rarity on the east side of Portland), very clever sides and sauces. 4) A good soundtrack - The obsessive idiosyncrasy that seems to govern 28 Tigers' food and drinks carries over to their choice of tunes (equally enjoyable). In all, a great casual time for folks who value quality, skill and thoughtfulness above pretense.
google avatar

Samantha M.

Yelp
Had a great experience at 28 Tigers! I placed the order on my way- they accommodated me after I got there and had my order ready sooner than expected . The food was super flavorful and was delicious- I had the Chicken Chow Fun and the Garlic Broccoli. I will definitely be going back!
google avatar

Corey C.

Yelp
28 Tigers is understated and casual, just like an old-Portland establishment. The people there are friendly and real. The music is well thought out. I walked in knowing nothing, having not read the reviews, not researched the joint, or planned to be there. I was just hungry. They had a special going. A seafood spring roll. I tried it, I absolutely scraped up every ounce of seafood juice off of my napkin like some kind of squid juice junky as my eyes rolled back in utter amazement. I ordered two more. I figured I should try a regular menu item, and got some noodles. Watching the kitchen work their magic from the counter bar, I could tell these people were there to be f-ing awesome, not just throw food on a plate. One of the guys in the kitchen made meaningful small talk as I ate. Offering me a smoky chili oil he felt was great with the noodles, (he was spot on.) and warning against eating the seafood right away, as it hits the table piping hot. The noodles and BBQ pork were so ridiculously good for such a simple dish. Just perfectly executed, really nice ingredients. I had a great glass of white wine with my spring rolls, and a red wine with my noodles. Don't know what the wines were, and don't care. They paired very very well. Can't say this meal was anything less than stellar. This small restaurant has more heart than most of the big popular ones. I'd take a date here, I'd take a friend here, I'd take my mom here. It's an everyone type of place. By the time you read this, there will be a line out the door. So, sorry. You're too late.

Yelp
Finally tried 28 Tigers this week and was blown away with the food and all the flavors! We love to go to Holy Ghost so when we found out another restaurant was opening up right next to them, I was stoked! Per usual we ordered WAY too much food for 2 people. But there were so many things on the menu I wanted to try that I had to get a bunch of stuff. Especially knowing that most Chinese food (their food also has roots in Sichuan, Hunan, Cantonese) is good leftover. So we ordered: - Crispy mushroom dumplings - Hong Kong noodles - Sesame noodles - Dan Dan noodles - Pepper bath chicken Everything had explosive flavor and was AMAZING. I enjoyed every dish but some of them stood out more than the others. The Hong Kong noodles were by far my favorite noodle dish we tried. I also loved the Dan Dan because it had a great level of spice. Mushroom dumplings were good, but will definitely try their pot stickers next time. Also loved the pepper bath chicken. Next time I'll for sure order their egg rolls, garlic broccoli, and radish cakes. We took our order to go but the gentleman at the counter was super friendly and helpful when it came to trying to decide what to order! Food also came up fairly quickly. We were able to grab a drink at Holy Ghost and by the time it was ready, they actually brought it right to us. Super nice and top notch (they were also not busy so not sure if this happens all the time).
