The 11 Best Bakeries In Houston

"The small counter bakery inside of Weights + Measure in Midtown puts the percentage and name of the fancy butter in the croissants right on the menu—82% beurremont beurre—so you know it’s serious. Love Croissants’ buttery, airy pain au chocolats are deeply satisfying. Savory croissants get stuffed with extra thick layers of smoked ham and asiago. Plus there’s something called a “crolache,” a uniquely Texas mashup that combines a croissant and toasted jalapeño cheddar beef sausage kolache." - gianni greene, chelsea thomas, julie takahashi

Yelp
It shares a door with 'love croissants' which threw me off for a second but when you walk in through the restaurant doors there's a lot of tables and a nice decorated space. I came with some friends for brunch on a Saturday around 11:45. We all were able to find a parking spot in the lot and get seated quickly. Our server was very attentive and was able to answer any questions we had about the menu. There were a lot of yummy options for brunch. We got an espresso martini, an iced tiramisu latte, and a hot latte. The drinks were delicious! For food we ordered the arepas, pupusas, and the midtown continental. I ordered my eggs over medium but they were actually really runny. So I was bummed about that but everything else was fine and tasted good. Would come back!

Yelp
Weights and Measures used to be a Houston staple. It was even featured on the food network! But now it's really gone downhill. I'm not sure what happened. The restaurant was not full on a Saturday night, I was able to get a table for 8 with zero notice... I got the carbonara and it was definitely not a carbonara. They said the meat was chorizo but it was so chorizo forward that it could have been a meat sauce, which was definitely not what I wanted. The cocktails were OK but nothing special. Maybe because the restaurant wasn't bustling, and the food was sub par, but the vibes were definitely off. The server was kind and helpful! I'll give an extra star because of him :)

Yelp
W+M used to be a a solid place to get a last minute reservation with some solid food. I went last night and only one person at dinner enjoyed what they ordered. I ordered the birria pizza add jalapeños and I kid you not it must have had 3 lbs of cheese on it. Jalapeños were forgotten despite the restaurant being basically empty. It feels like basically everything is the same with the new ownership except the quality of the food. So if you're looking for over priced experience with lack luster food drop in to W+M while it's till open. Once we were waited on I will say our server was good and attentive. Got me some jalapeños after the fact and came by the right amount. Just wished to food was back to its original quality.

Yelp
I highly recommend going here! The staff is friendly, the service is fast, and the prices are great!

Yelp
I am glad to have finally visited Weights + Measures for a midday lunch a while back. Usually, I find myself often venturing away from Midtown when it comes to dining options, but liked this establishment enough to keep it on my unofficial list of cool spots. The decor is inviting and inspiring. Compared to The Grove, it is on the simpler side, but it is more sophisticated than most restaurants in Houston. It's comfortable enough that someone could have a business meeting here or an outing with friends. On the culinary side, the chicken pozole verde soup was really delicious. The ingredients include slow roasted chicken, white corn kernels, two kinds of peppers (serrano, poblano), red onion and cilantro. The soup was actually better than I thought it would be. I ordered an Aperol Spritz, which was also good - just the right amount of bitterness served with a blood orange garnish. Overall, I really enjoyed my visit here.

Yelp
Didn't sleep in yesterday and the meal I had was actually worth it. The Tropical Sour was a nice sip! I didn't expect to have rye so early in the day, but passionfruit with a citrus kick made it really enjoyable. A drink with a little heft that won't leave you with a headache. I'll never turn down cheese, and I'd happily eat the TexQueños every day for the rest of my life. That cilantro sauce needs to be out in stores because it went on everything. Lastly, the brioche French Toast & Fried Chicken? I'll be eating that again. Staff was helpful beyond measure, all accommodations were made without issue and it's an excellent brunch spot. Lots of natural light and and open air, a really good place to have brunch with friends or family with kiddos. Make a reservation to save time, don't expect issues with parking. Lot seemed packed, but still found a very close spot.

Yelp
On Yesterday', A group of my fitness buddies had our 3rd Annual Secret Santa Brunch at Weights & Measures! Since, it was a new spot for me I wasn't sure what to order. But, our waiters were very helpful about what was on their menu to make my decision easier on what to eat. Also, everything was made fresh when our food arrived. The ambiance was very inviting and felt like we were eating at a little cute French cafe. This place is nice for friends and family to come out and have a wonderful time!!!

Yelp
Tried this place for brunch around actual lunch time. Was a little taken aback that on a Sunday they basically were running out of mimosas because they had no bubbles. The food was delicious but it seemed chaotic in there. I've been there before and know that they can really serve it up!! The staff when available was helpful.

Yelp
Recently visited Weights and Measures for the first time for an early Mother's Day brunch. They definitely left us feeling very happy, satiated, and already planning on when we'll be back next! To begin, they had ample parking which is always a huge plus in Midtown where parking can be tricky. The decor and ambiance of the restaurant was great. It had a lovely aesthetic while still keeping a nice laid-back feel where it made an extremely pleasurable experience sharing a meal with family. Our server was so kind and helpful in providing recommendations, answering questions, and tending to us throughout our meal. We tried some of their specialty coffee drinks (not pictured) and I highly recommend! I personally had the Maria Mocha? I believe it was called. Mocha flavor with a dash of cayenne. The coffee was so smooth and tasty, and the hint of cayenne at the end rounded it out well! We were also informed all of their coffee syrups are made in house! The food was absolutely fantastic. I had the cured salmon lox with an over medium egg and it was so great, there was definitely not a single bit left once I was done. The egg croissant sandwich also got very high marks from my mom! We discovered the croissants are made by Love Croissants, which they share the building with. The croissants look, smell, and are overall absolutely divine. You can even order any of the croissants to be served to you in the main restaurant if you wish! Definitely had to try a bit of my sister's Yucatán tostadas and the meat was so tender and flavorful! It combined so well with the other ingredients to make for a savory breakfast dish. I have nothing but great things to say about our experience at Weights and Measures. This is definitely on the list of "will have to visit again soon" because I have my eye on many other of their menu items I would love to try. This meal was so fantastic, I can only imagine how great the rest of their menu is! Can't wait to try more!

Yelp
The restaurant was pretty busy when I came here for brunch, but we had no problem being seated. I ordered the yucaton tostadas and an iced mocha. I also ordered the salted caramel creamaux for dessert which I was too full to eat so we took it to go for later. Everything was amazing. Service took a little longer than expected, but I get that they get pretty busy around brunch so no big deal. Pretty solid place overall.

Yelp
Get there early if you want a parking space in the lot. Many people can not park and will take up two spaces. You can circle a few times or pay for parking on the street (cheap but a hassle). The entrance is in the back and you see the bakery first. Keep going and you'll see the restaurant. It's nice and cool in there. I liked the nutty flavor in my latte. The mimosas were good. Orange juice was preferred over mango for mimosa. We started off with some pastries and jam and butter. Then we all go into our main course. I wasn't too fond of the breakfast pizza and wish I had gotten the waffle or the fried chicken. Darn me for trying to choose healthy meals. We ended the meal with almost all the desserts. My friend said the carrot cake was dry. We all agreed the doughknots could be sweeter. My other friends like the chocolate ravioli. Service was awesome until we wanted the check. It took several minutes for us to get someone to notice us.

Yelp
I havent been back in awhile bc every time last year (2023) I show up for breakfast around 8am, the doors were locked. Today they're open at 8am. It looks like they changed things up. The restaurant is not open for breakfast but the cafe /pastry side is open and focuses on croissants with less coffee options. Prices are steep but the croissants are delicious. It's not something someone on a budget or diet can go daily.

Yelp
My dad unexpectedly took my sister and I here one day while in the area. I really enjoyed my pizza though it felt like they didn't put enough sauce/toppings (the crust needn't be that wide/thick). The menu is small, but the 3 things we ordered were yummy.

Yelp
My friend and I had dinner at Weights + Measures back in December. My friend was able to book a last minute reservation online on a Friday night which was kind of surprising. The restaurant wasn't too busy when we arrived, but it picked up as the evening went on. I started with the Pear-Fect Holiday Martini. It was incredibly strong! I didn't know if I would be able to drink it, but I managed to. My friend sent hers back because it was too strong and ordered a different drink. My friend ordered the Roasted Sweet Potato appetizer. I didn't try any, but she liked it. She also had the Lamb Rack for her entrée and enjoyed it. I had the Pan Seared Salmon. It was really good. I enjoyed the salad and walnuts that came with it. Alma was our server and she was really nice. After we finished eating, we stood at the entrance in the bakery while my friend waited for her Uber. While we were waiting, one of the employees asked if we wanted any pastries or hot chocolate to go. My friend took him up on the offer. Some more patrons came in, so the employee went to help them and he disappeared. The Uber arrived so my friend had to leave empty handed. It was a nice gesture, but he missed out on a sale. The restaurant has a private parking lot which is nice given that it's in Midtown. The lot wasn't full when we arrived, but I imagine it gets full during peak hours.

Yelp
The food is exceptional here! The drinks are also pretty great. I always love an espresso martini and theirs is decent! There's not great outdoor dining but the dining room is pretty and clean. Our waiter was very sweet and attentive at first. He wasn't very good at checking on us through out the meal and we ended up waiting for our check for almost 45 minutes after the table was cleaned. We'll be back for the food and vibes!

Yelp
Like other reviews say the carrot pizza is absolutely a must try! The cocktails are very good too!

Yelp
I went here for an early brunch, was not disappointed. They have a bakery in the front, a large full bar, ample seating, even rooms for a more private party if you'd like. The group I was dining with had cocktails, they all said that their drinks were delicious. The service was polite and friendly. I ordered the steak and eggs. Eggs cooked over medium, and it was medium! Steak was cooked to a medium rare. The cut was a thin ribeye, seasoned well, had a good flavor and was cooked exactly to my liking. It is served with an au jus for dipping and a green salad on the side. The salad was dressed with a lovely balsamic vinaigrette. The homestyle potatoes were standard. Served hot and crispy. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. However when it came to pay for our meal, the server stated that they were unable to split checks with over two payment cards. Just keep that in mind when you have a large group.

Yelp
We are confused at how this place is only 3.5 star???? Great for us because it wasn't that crowded but we arrived. Try the Tiramisu coffee... WOW.... Had the cheese appetizer- delicious. Roasted carrot pizza was a good as Guy said it was. The carbonara amazing.... Vibe was exactly as we love... quiet and chill. We sat at the bar and the bartender was as nice as can be... True 5 star experience!!!

Yelp
This was my second time here and it did not disappoint. Some co-workers and I did the Run in the park 19th annual race in the morning and worked up an appetite. We wanted something close by so I chose this restaurant. I was able to make reservations for 6 at 10 am with no problem through open table. When we arrived it wasn't too busy and we were able to sit right away and get some drinks going. I had a passion fruit mimosa that was really great! More champagne than juice which is how it should be. I had the steak and eggs which was also really great. The meat was cooked medium well, how I asked for it and it had lots of flavor, and came with some friend potatoes and a small salad. I ordered a side pancake and it was ok, it was a bit dry but I also did not put butter on it. I wanted to try the michelada because it's hard to find a place that makes their own mix with such perfection. This Bloody Mary/ michelada mix was more shell fish tasting, similar to Clamato, and it was good just wasn't what I'd prefer. Overall the service was great, food was great, and there was no wait or any difficulty parking. FYI they also have a bakery and make all kinds of yummy sweet breads. I did not get anything to go because I was so full but next time I'll be sure to get a danish or two for the road.

Yelp
Cute little brunch spot. I got the French toast and fried chicken which is a big serving, loved that. I had plenty of leftovers. They charged for extra syrup. I've also had a brisket or roast beef sandwich from here if I'm remembering correctly that was very good. They have some kind of policy about being charged for ppl who don't show up if you make a reservation. Even if some of you come they will still charge you per person for those that don't show up which is something to keep in mind. This was my first experience with that
google avatar

Jason G.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere. Food was tasty despite being slightly overpriced compared to the quality. I don't think the chef clearly understood how risotto should feel in the mouth, but I know that's hard to do in a kitchen while trying to coordinate orders. ‍ All in all a nice experience.
google avatar

Andrea P.

Yelp
Food was delicious but I wouldn't pay $15 for a ONE tequeño again. My favorite item was the dough-knot (dessert). Make sure to eat them while they are hot. The pasión fruit mimosa was amazing. Service was good and quick. I will be back to try more items.
google avatar

Vidya M.

Yelp
First time at Weights + Measures, and the experience did not disappoint! Started out with a passionfruit mimosa, which was PERFECT and one of their specialty coffee drinks (the coconutz), also super unique and delicious! They even had a Coco Puffs iced latté. We tried the cheese stick appetizer to start , which was a little overpriced but SO good (honestly, can't go wrong with fried dough and melted cheese), but the cilantro sauce was tangy and fresh! For my main, I got the pork belly arepa Benedict with a side of potatoes. The Benedict was SO good-- the pork belly was tender, and the chipotle hollandaise added a nice smokiness. A unique and delicious dish! Would definitely come back to try one of their breakfast croissant sandwiches, which also looked amazing. The service was friendly, and about as fast as expected for how large our party was and how busy it was. Only downside was that it was a little overpriced, but pretty standard with your regular semi-classy brunch spot. Overall, a solid brunch spot!

Yelp
Checked this place out for brunch! Super cute spot. They have a bakery when you initially walking on a assorted variety. Then there is general dining area. There aren't any dedicated vegetarian or vegan options but you can build a plate, which is what I did! The sautéed spinach was fire! Perfectly seasoned. Unfortunately the pancakes were just mid. They were not hot when they came out. Breakfast potatoes were really good though. I ordered the tiramsu latte and they do have oatmilk for those that avoid the dairy like me! Overall this place is a solid brunch option! I would come back!

Yelp
Excellent Food, Service, and ambiance, Patronized Weights and Measures (W+M) with a group for lunch during the week on two different occasions. The service was outstanding both times. The lighting and decor make you feel comfortable. The menu is expansive with so many choices. I thoroughly enjoyed the W+M salad and the Wood Fired Salmon Succotash. Portions were very generous. Everyone's dishes looked delicious. I am looking forward to returning. Reservations may be required.

Brooke L.

Yelp
I happened to find W+M after visiting Love croissants, I'm so glad I did!! W+M is one of the best brunch spots I've been to in a long time. Literally, everything on the menu was worthy of being ordered. I really had a hard time choosing after looking at all of the delicious plates that were being served to other visitors. I decided on the W+M salad and my husband had the chicken with French toast. Neither dish disappointed! We also ordered a side of breakfast potatoes and over easy eggs. Not only was everything cooked to perfection, but the portion sizes were satisfying, and the food was really good. I'm planning to make W+M a regular when I visit Houston. I'm so glad we found this place, I definitely think they're worth trying and did I mention that they make their own bread and pasta! Mmmmmmmm

Yelp
We actually had great service in the restaurant on Father's Day but dealing with the reservation was suboptimal. I was overcharged for changing my reservation within 24 hours. When I was decreasing the number I asked the hostess via phone and she confirmed I would be charged appropriately. The charge came through after we left and it was for the incorrect number of people. I called the restaurant and the hostess automatically said "it'll be fixed" without confirming who I was on the phone until I asked if she needed my information. Nearly a month later, unanswered calls, and contacting via their website and this has not been resolved. Very unfortunate as this had become our go to for large group lunches but I will not deal with their reservation process again.

Yelp
Surprisingly empty for dining on a Friday night. The drinks and food were pretty good! The appetizer dish we got was the Texqueno and was much better than we were expecting!! So good!! I got the carbonara and while good it was not what I was expecting, had a bit of a spicy kick! The cocktail I got (Venezuelan passion) was delicious but my only complaint is the bar took a very long time to deliver drinks despite there be no one there. Overall very good experience though!
google avatar

Yelp
Another lovely adventure with the Pretty Girls Brunch group. As soon as you walk in there is a bakery fresh bread, danish and other items. I will say if you want to take advantage get there early. I waited for after brunch and it was too late a lot of items were gone. Out waiter was very helpful, there was so much on the menu I wanted to try but I could only choose 1. The waiter told me about his favorite CHILAQUILES braised shortrib + ancho chile mole + refried black beans + fried eggs + queso fresco + pico de gallo + fresh chiles + cilantro and he told me to add a avocado on the side. This was delicious, but for me it was an overload of black beans and the braised short ribs was a little fatty. That is just my personal preference. The cocktail we great hands down! This is a place you should put one on your list.
google avatar

Shatoyia N.

Yelp
My drink was good but very sweet so I had a shot of vodka on the side. We ordered the pancakes and French toast. So yummy! Our waitress was awesome as well!!!

Yelp
Omg. Roasted carrot pizza is life. I commend the chef for creating such a delight. Service for our large party was attentive and accurate.

Yelp
This was my third visit to Weights and Measures, they continue to bring excellent food and service! I came for a friend's bday brunch and they did a wonderful job taking care of us. The drinks are always on point as well as their menu. I will recommend this place for a weekend brunch but you're still wanting to play it safe, give WM a try. Bianca

Yelp
New ownership kills strong brand. What began with high hopes for infusion of new energy has been a disaster. For years, Weights + Measures has been a staple of the brunch scene and an eclectic funky spot for dinner. Sadly, the new ownership, instead of revitalizing it has killed the energy. The new staff is unaware of the legacy. They've shrunken key dishes, like the carrot pizza by more than half while keeping the prices the same. More concerning, basics quality and higiene. Giving it yet another chance this past Friday, The bartender used the restroom, came out of the stall without washing his hands and proceeded to go right back to work pouring my wife a glass of water. We asked for a beer. We're told the taps were broken. We ended up leaving. So sad that the new owners have elected to kill a strong brand.
google avatar

Brittany C.

Yelp
The customer service and the mussels were the best thing about my visit. The drinks were not very good and I received the wrong pasta. It was entered correctly on the ticket but maybe they grabbed the wrong dish from the kitchen and brought to me. It's a very cute restaurant but I probably won't go back.

Moses S.

Yelp
Great food that was delicious and fresh, with excellent service and ambiance while enjoying my meal.

Yelp
Nice restaurant., decent service. The coffee had a very unique taste it which was interesting. However I thought it was overpriced for Mediocre food.

Yelp
Came here on a Tuesday for lunch and it wasn't packed at all. We got there right in time before the lunch rush crowd. We ordered the W+M Salads. My friend got the salad with added shrimp as protein. I decided for no protein and actually really enjoyed the salad! I love that the salad has pomegranate seeds and toasted cashews. It added the perfect touch to the salad. Definitely love this place and the kind servers.
google avatar

Ken M.

Yelp
Brunch was just OK. overpriced mimosas, sub-standard brunch entries, food was either overcooked or dry, and paid way more than expected compared to similar restaurants
google avatar

Judy C.

Yelp
HRW MENU! first of all, I already loved it before I walked in because it's located downtown and they had their own parking lot. Like, how awesome is that. Inside was very nice and modern. Plenty of seating. Ordered the margarita and it was quite strong and great! Got the charcuterie, salmon tare tare (very refreshing and the fish was pretty fresh), ribeye (I didn't taste much truffle oil, it was seasoning fine though) and ended with the creme brûlée (creamy and delicious. Had that beautiful crisp top from the brûléeing of the sugar). Would come back and try their regular menu and bakery items/coffee!

Yelp
My 1st time at Weights and measures but I've been seeing this place many times before. I was very surprised to see food was very good and service was impeccable. Our server Myra is earning the extra star for this review. I'm not a big fan of hanger steak at all since it's chewing and poor quality of meat to me, but this got me good. The steak was very good. (And I'm super picky on my steak) Honestly I avoid choosing the steak bcoz I'm not a fan and very picky on it so my friend ordered it and I tasted. That was how I found out how good it was. My choice was the mahi-mahi and it was equally good too. Hats down to the chef. The desserts was ok but the coffee was excellent. Love the banana foster latte . We also bought some pastries on the way out. Since it was for bkfast time so most of the pastries were gone. If y'all haven't try this place out, it's recommended.

Kathy C.

Yelp
Don't waste your time here - the service is average and food is overpriced and mostly served cold .

Yelp
Brunch! Pork belly slow roasted with over easy eggs over arepas!!! Ooohhh myyyy goodness!

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch and it was a good decision. It's located right down the street from Houston Community College - Central, with a surprisingly decent amount of parking. We got in just before noon and it was quiet, almost as if they weren't open, but they were. There was only one other table filled but that changed quickly after we were seated. We got there at the right time. Things I ordered: -Iced toffee nut latte. It was delicious but mostly ice :( -Corn and zucchini fritters. They were really good. Light and flavorful. Order came with four. -Braised short rib sandwich. This was a surprise for me because I was expecting a barbecue-style sammy, but there was no sauce in sight. The short rib was good and very tender. Also surprisingly juicy! I didn't miss the barbecue sauce at all! The bread was interesting but tasty. The cheese was a little much for me so I scraped some off. Came with house-made chips that were light and crunchy. Everything was really good. I'd recommend stopping in for lunch. No idea what their dinner menu looks like. They also have a bake shop up front but there wasn't anyone there and the woman working the hostess desk never looked up from her phone so I didn't feel confident that she would be helpful :(
google avatar

Jasmine S.

Yelp
We sat at the bar to have brunch because there is no available outside seating. Very friendly bartender, good menu options, and the food was standard. I would say it fell a little short, actually. I ordered French toast and fries chicken - I thought the chicken was over fried and not that much meat on the bones, but it was OK. There were a lot of people in there, which is an indicator that it's well liked at least.
google avatar

Quonesha J.

Yelp
This was my first visit and my meal was great. I started off with the Boozy Sangria. There was a sour after taste to this drink that I didn't too much care for however. I ordered the chicken and waffles. The chicken was flavorful and the French toast was cooked to perfection. Definitely will be returning to order more options off the menu.

Yelp
The food was great! My dad and I had the Texas Summer Fruit as an appetizer to split! My dad had the burger and I had the Port of Catalunya pasta - we both greatly enjoyed it! Also had cocktails and they were very nice! Our waitress was so nice!
