More like 4-1/2 stars. I loved the sandwich, but have to take off at least half point for the lack of hot pepper or hot sauce options. I mean, since they're already chopping up a bunch of stuff for you, why not offer chopped hot peppers as an optional add-in? For those of us who like it spicy, this is a sandwich that cries out for chiles of some sort. I took mine home and poured hot sauce on before each bite. But it would have been better if the peppers had already been part of the sticky, gooey, yummy mess. Or even, since the chefs are obviously gourmets, have a housemade hot sauce available, but offer to mix it into the sandwich rather than having to pour it on later. The only optional add-on they have now is making it "dirty," which means you buy a small bag of commercial snack chips -- corn, potato, whatever you like -- and they'll chop it into the mix.
But the sandwich is dang good other than that omission. If you like saucy meatballs with cheese, greasy cheeseburgers, sloppy joes -- this is sorta like those, but maybe better. I just had my first chopped cheese today, and I'm hooked. I'm not usually a big eater, and I'm pretty much a health-foody semi-vegetarian, but I ate almost the whole sandwich, including half a pound of beef. It's just so good. I'm talking about the Chopped Cheese, on hero bun. That's their namesake, signature dish. Some reviewers here talk about the Philly cheesesteak or the Reuben -- those might be good, but if you don't get a Chopped Cheese you're missing the point of this place.
Next time I'll probably bring a friend to share it with, so I'm not tempted to pig out so much. It seems like it would be a tough thing to save and reheat the next day.
