2d Restaurant Review - Lakeview - Chicago - The Infatuation

"The concept of 2d Restaurant is intriguing: A mochi donut and fried chicken spot (with lots of plant-based alternatives) covered in a completely monochrome, Paris-inspired backdrop. Every surface—walls, floor, and furniture, inside and out—is white and outlined in hand-drawn, thin black lines for a flat effect that actually looks pretty cool. Unsurprisingly, the charm of hanging out in a comic book illusion wears off quickly once you post it on social media. And while you might be able to get your fill of photos, the food at this Lakeview cafe is unsatisfying. The donuts are oily and dense, with thick frosting that’s hardened into a shell. The chicken sandwiches are oily too, with a flavorless fried chicken breast that’s drowning in something called “Rooster sauce” (a very drippy, spicy mayo). Plus, the space is cramped, kind of dingy, and you’ll have to wait 25 minutes for a table." - Veda Kilaru

Amazing layout and great service! Absolutely love the 2D design and how homely it feels! I got a Thai milk tea and the server (Micha I think?) did a fantastic job! I could tell that this is a place where people like to go to relax.

Very cute 2D café in Paris near Musée dès arts et métier. I had my matcha latte and their famous cute cookies with (azuki) red beans filling it was delicious but to be honest the price are expensive 🫘

Loved the taste but If you want to individualise your order a bit the waiting time is over 20 min for one wheel cake. A real bummer, would expect to be made a minute in any case. A little expensive too for the size.

We had two wheel cakes, one match/ azuki, and another taro. They were ok, the taste of matcha and azuki didn’t get along well enough, and taro somehow tasted a bit sour, could be strange. Plus, the nectar de peuplier we had was rather watery, I would say quite overpriced. Comparing to the food experience I had in both Taiwan and Hongkong.

I came across while walking in this area and just had to drop by! Had a passion fruit bubble tea with lychee popping and it tasted really good! Nice staff, cute place. Love the vibes of 2D and black n white! Definitely recommend 👌
