Downtown Chicago’s Best Bars and Restaurant for Drinks in the Loop | Eater Chicago

"A casual, bourbon-focused pub from the cousins and heirs to Loop neighbor the Exchequer, 2Twenty2 plays all the hits for folks who need to refuel after a hard day of shopping on the Mag Mile. The team features familiar drinks including boulevardiers, negronis, and Manhattans alongside burgers, sandwiches, and tavern-style pizzas. If food and drink isn’t enough entertainment, there are also games like giant Jenga and shuffleboard." - Ashok Selvam

Raise a Toast to Bartenders With Tequila Cocktails at These Chicago Bars | Eater

"2Twenty2 Tavern has been a fixture in the Loop for seven years, a beloved spot for comfort food and good cocktails in a friendly, convivial setting. Pull up to the bar or tuck into a leathery banquette for a number of cocktails that’ll make Teremana Tequila shine. There are four (!) types of margaritas, whether you prefer yours to be classic, spicy, smoky, or sweet. Plus, seasonal options, like the La Palomita with agave, lime, and grapefruit. And when hunger strikes, there’s plenty to keep the party going. Might we recommend the cheese curds and fried pickles?" - Ariel Kanter

Google
Stunned by the quality of there burger. The quality of meat, the caramelized onions, the butter toated bun... very good. Large pretzel was not warm only semi-negative for myself. The bartender was excellent, good quality and range of bourbon and whiskey options. Excellent old fashion...I asked for Basil Hayden.

If you're lookin' for a laid-back spot to grab a drink and catch up with friends, 2Twenty2 Tavern is where it's at. The selection of bourbon and craft beer is solid—especially if you’re into trying something new. I grabbed a pour of bourbon and paired it with their loaded tater tots, and damn, they hit the spot! The vibe is chill, and they’ve got shuffleboard and video games, so you can keep yourself busy between rounds. It’s not too pricey either; I spent about $20, and I was more than happy with what I got. If you’re in the area and want a relaxed night out, this place is a no-brainer.

Google
Cool bar, we don’t have many places like this in England so it’s a great experience for us beer lovers! Check out the carhartt merch

Google
Great place to stop off and grab that drink you want and get caught up on that game you've been missing out on. In other words, just a good place to chill tf out! Also, the grub here is delicious. I ordered the bourbon wings and chips and salsa. Neither disappointed. The bartenders were friendly and provided excellent service. My drink never went empty during my visit until I was ready to cash out! 5 ✨'s! I'm looking forward to returning again soon!

Didn't eat just drank. Fun place. Nice location downtown. Good drink options.

Google
I went here with friends. The security guard is very rude, racist, and discriminatory. He insulted my friend and yelled at her to leave while pointing at her with a flashlight. After reading some reviews from this place, I see this is normal. Save yourself some time and money; there are better bars around.

Google
Very much enjoyed our visit to 2Twenty2. We were fortunate to come at a time when it was slow and got good service. Both drinks we had were great and reasonably priced. I'm not usually big into Mules but theirs was one of the best I've had. Vibe of the place is great, and they even have a couple shuffleboards. We didn't get a chance to try the food, but will definitely consider returning to do so in the future.

Yelp
Fun place. great bar food. Love the milk stouts! fun sports bar ambience. service is spot on! bartenders rock!

Yelp
Great bar with plenty of food different seating areas and good cocktails. We only stopped in for a drink and a snack so I can only talk about the waffle fries in terms of food, but they were excellent--crunchy in the outside while still soft and steaming hot on the inside. I'll update once I've had a proper meal here.

Yelp
Nice place for post work food and drinks. Music is at a decent volume where you can have a conversation with your table and not have to yell. Bartenders are attentive and can hold a conversation if that's what you're looking for.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem. For starters they have a $2.22 house lagger special that runs daily all day that is probably the best deal in the city. Service was also quick. Their appetizers are also good portions. I highly recommend the spinach artichoke dip. It was phenomenal and the first time I've ever had chips leftover before the dip was gone. Will be going back.

Yelp
Fun spot to grab a drink with friends. We grabbed a booth in the back so it wasn't as loud. It was nice because we came on Saint Patrick's day and it wasn't too busy. We got there at opening and had the place to ourselves for a good hour before the crowds came. The service was quick here. I had the spicy margarita and it was great! Perfect amount of spice and tequila!

Yelp
Our table was ignored for an hour and we decided to leave and right after our rides were called the bouncer came up and told us to leave bc we didn't order drinks for an hour? We showed him that we called Ubers but he didn't let us (group of girls) wait inside for Ubers and rides home? It wasn't even busy? I understand that a business isn't obligated to host people but they couldn't wait 5 min for our rides to come? Couldn't let us know at any point that if we wanted to stay we had to order drinks? Didn't like how the bouncer didn't care about keeping the girlies and gals safe ;n; just wanted to intimidate people into leaving at an arbitrary time frame. overall bizarre and off putting experience

Yelp
Need a stop for food? Or drinks? Yup then here it is. Cool vibe. Loud but not too bad. Drinks are good but stay away from old fashion. The Manhattan is where it is. All other drinks we ordered were on point and the pizza pretzel was huge!!! Service was at the bar but the door guy was cool.

Yelp
I have a lot of fun here. I've been a few times. I like the set up of the interior and the games that they have as well as the huge screen TV. The drinks and wings are so good too! During my last visit, our server did have a quite bad attitude which is why I took off a star. Also I really do want to something different for the music because it was bordering on heavy-metal when I was there last time. But still a great spot that I will likely return to.

Yelp
Stopped by on a random afternoon for a drink and food with friends. For it to be daytime, it was super dark inside. It's pretty spacious, and I can imagine it's great to watch games here. The food was pretty average and drinks were just so-so.
google avatar

Yelp
I always have a great time at 2Twenty2. The ambience, crowd and service are outstanding. Every time I'm in the neighborhood it's my go to place.

Yelp
2Twenty2 is a pretty chill place to hang out when you're not quite done with your night in Chicago. They have security at the front checking ids. When I went wasn't too crowded, was able to grab a table with ease and they have big tvs so Monday Night Football in that atmosphere was perfect. It's downtown Chicago so the price you pay is exactly downtown Chicago prices. But I will say the food and drinks were good. Started with the fried pickles and cheese curds. I was pleasantly surprised with fried pickles. Not many places make fried pickles that can semi compete with the South. The cheese curds were jammed full of flavor. The jalapeño ranch sauce is a must try. If you're sitting at a table you have to go to the bar to order your drinks and food. Drinks are made right away but food takes awhile to be made. Almost to the point of we were wondering if our bartender put in our order long. Plenty of beers on tap but their specialty was out when we went. Overall a decent hang out bar with better than average bar food.
google avatar

Yelp
This place has you order at the bar for food. I ordered at the bar and they didn't ask me if I wanted waffle or potato fries like the menu said. Food was ok. Burger and fries are overpriced for what you get. I ordered the smash burger and it was pretty hefty. The onions were grilled but not caramalized so they were a bit chewy. I didn't get any drinks or see a happy hour menu. It was around 4:00 so it wasn't busy, I'm not sure why I got this less than stellar service. The place is pretty dark, with natural light only being at the front close to the door. I spent about $20 for a burger and fries and tipped on a Togo order.

Yelp
Food was alright service was not the best, we pretty much did not have a server at all and had to ask the cook who brought out our food for sauces.

Yelp
Very very cool interior and great prices! Watched the US Open here. Great prices and service!

Yelp
Okay y'all this place is a must ! Super chill and cozy ! The food was sooooooooo good . I don't think it would taste like that lol but we definitely enjoyed it ! I had the fried pickles and cheese curds Burger Wings The drinks were great ! Well spent money. A little pricey but hey that's downtown. I'll come back

Yelp
Service is terrible worst driest personality of a bartender .. she's been there a while I was there on Thursday April 20 3 pm Wings used to be hood huge now small and average Will never go again Plenty better than paces to g

Yelp
One of the spots downtown that is open late for a drink and snack if you are still out with friends. They have security at the door checking IDs and monitoring things which is nice. The seating is spacious and comfortable. The drinks are average price and a good size and the music that night was diverse and good. The noise level wasn't too intense and we could hear each other as we conversed. I will definitely go here again if I'm out late.

Yelp
Usual casual bar. Good bartenders. When I called they said rhere was live music. Unfortunately there wasnt.

Yelp
Awesome place to grab a bite and watch a game. I was in Chicago for business and wanted to watch a football game. I asked a person at the hotel I was staying at for a recommendation to a place near by. Two people said 2Twenty2 Tavern. Full of TV's, big screen and able to hear the game loud and clear. Great place, cool bartender, cool ambiance and the food was great!

Jeffrey S.

Yelp
Food was pretty bad, service was really rough to get a hood of somebody. Good beer selection but wouldn't be back.
google avatar

Gurleen K.

Yelp
Fun bar that's not super fancy but nicer than a dive bar. Works great as a happy hour for coworker or as a hangout spot with friends with a good selection of beer and friendly bar tenders.

Yelp
A great bar in a great location with some great food/drinks at a great price. Ergo, this place is great. My friend and I decided to catch up over some food and drinks and decided on here because of the price and the convenient location. I've been to this bar a couple of times as I work right across the street, but this was my first time trying the food, and was I surprised! I expected a very mediocre burger and fries, but was presented a very well cooked burger and some delicious (but interestingly shaped) fries. Order: - Virtue Cider (5/5) - 2Twenty2 Burger (5/5) Pros: - Great price ~ The drinks are very affordable compared to other bars in the area - Great tasting food ~ My burger came perfectly cooked and the fries were VERY good - Fun ambiance ~ This bar is a great place to catch up with your friends and/or chill with coworkers. They have a lot of space at the bars, tables, games, and music Cons: - Can get pretty loud when there is a lot of people - Really dark ~ Not an ideal place for something like a date Overall: - I've enjoyed all my visits to 2Twenty2 Tavern and definitely see myself coming more often

Yelp
Great sports bar for craft beer. Sadly, they don't have any sour beers. Don't expect to be waited on and have to order from the bar. Overall, a great place to grab a beer and watch a game!

Liz K.

Yelp
Great food and drinks! Very nice bar with a neighborhoody vibe. Also the service is legit!

Yelp
We just stopped in a for a couple of drinks on a mid-afternoon in December. Sat at the bar, where the staff was very attentive. My wife had a couple of beers and I had a martini - both were very well priced...especially for downtown. We didn't get any food, but saw lots of it headed to a group that was by the front window area. Bar has a cool vibe, with TV's tuned to sports, and a nice selection of beer. We'll definitely be back.

Yelp
A fun, awesome bar in the loop. For some reason it's hard to find bars open late at night because of how corporate Chicago is so it was awesome to find this bar. They have shuffleboard and other areas to hang/watch tv/play games besides the bar. The drinks are good but watch out rhey get pricey quickly! The raspberry Prosecco drink was like $17 with tip-- tho the upside is that it's super strong. I like that they have ample bar space and it's not creepy lmao some bars are so seedy and filled with creeps, which place isn't thank god.

Daniela V.

Yelp
Love this place. The staff is super friendly and the manager was very helpful when I needed to get an old receipt.

Yelp
Visiting the City for a weekend, and my friend and I went here arriving around 10pm on Friday night. . It was busy but not packed. They had 5 bar tenders so no waiting for drinks. They let us start a tab and kept the drinks coming. I had the strawberry blonde fork their menu- which I really enjoyed. My friend tried 3 of the locos brews they had on tap and liked them as well. We stayed until 1am and felt very welcomed even as the regulars came in.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is awesome. Why is 2twenty2 a cool place to hang out? 1) The bartenders know how to make a well made drink. They are not known for their margaritas but they are dare I say it.... Fire! If you don't know what I mean by fire, it just means good, not hot. Ha ha 2) Shuffleboards, because after a few drinks playing for a couple of hours with friends breaks the social atmosphere and might make it easy for you to meet someone. I feel like I might need to go there and stand awkwardly by the shuffleboard hoping to make some new friends. Lol Will you play with me? 3) Their menu is limited to pizzas, wings, fries, burgers and typical bar food but it's really good. I ate my Buffalo chicken sandwich with so much vigor I was quite embarrassed, it was just so good. The sweet potato fries were better than most I've tried so yay! 4) The layout of the furniture encourages conversation. They also have some comfy sofas, and tables against the wall to allow more seating with appropriate spacing. 5) The location of the business is pretty cool. It's in Chicago's downtown area with street parking and good access to the trains. Check this place out!

Yelp
Good food and drinks. The atmosphere is very lively. Live entertainment was on point when we visited. This place is clean, no lingering smell of alcohol. A good selection of local beers. Will definitely come back again next time I'm in Chicago.

Yelp
Have been coming here since before Covid. Always a great place in the south loop. Very large and spacious bar with a large game of Jenga, Foos ball, fireplace and some other games. I've only had the appetizers there and they are always good. They know how to make a great Old fashion. I was there was some former coworkers last night and Emily was our bartender. She did a great job in managing the bar that was full and for people who were walking up to the bar to order drinks. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Nerissa T.

Yelp
Giant jenga, shuffleboard, tequila on tap, 30+ draft beers, live music - what more could you want? Had such a fun time here last night with a group of friends. Tried a few of their cocktails - the French 75 and Paloma were great. However, I was not a fan of the jalapeño mule. It definitely had an acquired taste and a slight kick to it. We also got the spinach artichoke dip, jumbo pretzel, fried cheese curds, and fries to share. I think you can reserve tables for large groups but we ended up scoring a spot for our party of 10. However, there are plenty of tables throughout the place and seats at the bar. They have live music every weekend starting at 10 pm! 2Twenty2 is a great spot to get together with friends.
google avatar

Yelp
My friend and I came in here for a drink late night after a concert We actually didn't get a drink because the people that was inside of the lounge area and the people that were walking all the foot traffic men kept propositioning us through the window and stopping and sticking the middle finger up . All kinds of people that look very shady we're so uncomfortable that we got up and left the bar itself looks really nice they did have a gentleman that was sitting at the front door who was checking IDs as you walk in the people inside saying to have goodnight enjoying themselves they have board games Jenga fully stocked bar but again because we received by the window which seems like cramps eating we're very uncomfortable of the people that were attracted seemingly to us
google avatar

Rishi S.

Yelp
Glad this place is open! Stopped by for a quick cocktail and found the perfect spot on a busy Sunday evening. We got the mint julep and it was definitely strong, if you like a no frills drink, this is perfect for you. Just mint, whisky, simple syrup with a splash of seltzer. I got the French 75 next, very refreshing, it was basically gin and Prosecco with some lemon. Amazing. Definitely give this place a try!
google avatar

Yelp
Very cool bar on the same strip as incumbents Millers Pub & Exchequer. When I saw they opened I was thinking no way in hell they could compete with the big 2 on the block, but after showing up for the first time last night, I saw that I was wrong. First off its a loud afterwork crowd that are participating in shuffleboard and jenga which is awesome especially if Game Room on Mich Ave is too crowded.they of course have TVs hanging so you can know whats going on in the world of sports. Cool guys that work here and they made me a few nice Manhattans. Beer selection is acceptable and have a wine list as well. I got the 5 double wings that come with a very good maple bourbon sauce that I could not stop eating and dipping fries in...very nice as I would come back just for the wings and sauce. If I would have known the awesomeness of this place when I worked a few blocks away from it, this would have been my preferred afterwork spot. Very cool, chill and fun place going on here!

Yelp
This is a really cool bar located in downtown Chicago. Upon walking in I felt at home and relaxed. There was a nice seating area with comfy chairs and couches around a small electric fireplace, which was a welcome site on the blistering cold night I visited. There was also seating at the bar and in the back room area where there was a stage for live music. The bar staff was super friendly and let me sample some of the craft beers on tap before I ultimately ordered the Hell Kitty Kitty Belgian pale ale. The beer was delicious and very smooth. Myself and my friends sat around the fire playing jinga and had a great time. They also have shuffleboard and a few other games as well. I would highly recommend this place if you are looking for a laid back bar in the Chicago area.

Yelp
After reading the solid reviews, I was super excited to visit this bar! According to the all knowing internet, it looked like there was a solid cocktail menu, and who can say no to tequila and whiskey on tap? No one, that's who. No one. Anyway, we showed up around 5 on a Saturday. The front soft seating area was pretty full and the bar top was about half full. The place was decorated in a 70's theme. I had read that they have live music most weekend and thought that maybe this was just standard. Nope - it was the bar's 3rd Birthday! Even better! Nope. When we walked in, I made eye contact with a bartender who was standing in at the end of the bar space, and asked if we could "sit anywhere" He said yes. Great! We sat down in the back booth area. Decent dance floor, stage, and quite a bit of seating. We sat for a bit - no menus. Maybe we just ordered at the bar? After 10-12 minutes a very salty gal comes to take our order. We both order signature cocktails and my husband orders an appetizers of fries. Our cocktails came out - not quickly, but we didn't have anywhere else to be. She was really not happy with us when she brought us our drinks - no smile, no nothing. Well, shit. Maybe there isn't table service here. No problem. Well, here in lies the problem. The owners showed up with their friends and toddler. None of those people had any problem getting drinks from the same salty server. I made reservations at another restaurant and we had about 45 minutes to wait. We figured, we might as well just order another cocktail; after all, we still had fries coming. I offered to get up and order us another round, but was ignored at the bar. So, there is table service? Our server finally came back and we ordered another round, and asked for our check at the same time. Check came before the cocktails. Spoiler alert, we never got our fries. Full discloser, we weren't charged for them, so maybe she just forgot them along with her positive attitude. Cocktails were good - super strong, but I won't be spending money here again.

Yelp
Pretty cool place to come chill with friends and drink. Came here on a Thursday night and we sat right by the fireplace where they had the giant Jenga. Loved the live music that they had and it was my first time seeing and playing shuffleboard! It was pretty interesting and fun. They also had more games in the back. It was not packed at all so we really enjoyed each other companies and playing games while drinking.

Chad F.

Yelp
Wonderful place! Great food and drinks and staff were friendly and good at what they do
google avatar

Yelp
Great bar and one of the few good, casual options in the area. We've been a number of times and love the vibe. It's pretty casual with an area for arcade type games (buck hunter, darts, etc) as well as a stage near the back for bands on certain nights. There's a decent number of tables near the stage so you can sit and eat but also a super long bar area so you can stand and drink if you prefer. Music, even when not live, is always on point. Plenty of great music that's not just top 40's. The beer menu is pretty extensive and updated regularly. The craft beers are generally local and there are plenty of options beyond just IPAs. Great spot, one of the best in the area.

Yelp
This was a dope happy hour spot. I stopped in and grabbed a good Old Fashioned. I enjoy Oldies with muddled cherries so this was on point #goodoldfashionedchicago

Yelp
This place will scan you with marketing "$2.22" beers. But the second it gets slightly busy, they're "out". And the cheapest beer is $10. This place is a definition of a scam.
google avatar

Taylor U.

Yelp
Great bar. Great atmosphere. I got a cocktail that seemed like it did not contain any alcohol. Maybe I just like them strong. They were helpful in letting us taste test their brews. We ordered the chili pot which was plenty of food for the two of us. We didn't realize how big the soft pretzel was otherwise we definitely would've gotten that instead. Also be sure to ask for the 222 as it is their house lager for $2.22. Great deal.
google avatar

Mike O.

Yelp
This place is nothing special. They have the fancy cocktail bar look and trying to do craft beer at the same time. Beer selection and breweries on their board were nothing special. Lots of other choices.
google avatar

Allison S.

Yelp
There were two bartenders per usual tonight. Bald guy - very nice. Guy with hair - no customer service skills whatsoever... not even polite in the slightest. If you say thank you, don't expect a "you're welcome".
google avatar

Janine H.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick cocktail and I wasn't disappointed. Great for a craft cocktail and small bite to eat if you find yourself walking around the south loop with nothing to do.
google avatar

Johnny Q.

Yelp
Was staying next door at the Palmer House and came over for some bevvies. Good service and good drinks. Price is appropriate for the area.

Melissa R.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this place by mistake and it did not disappoint! I was trying to find a fun restaurant with games and at first went to the game room only to be disappointed. Someone there recommended this place. The staff was super friendly! We got some appetizers that did not disappoint, jumbo pretzels and cheese curds and fried pickles, and played lots of games! Shuffle board, basketball, darts and connect four. Highly recommended!
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
We had a lot of fun here playing games and the drinks we good . We were a little disappointed in no live music as we had anticipated and then ordered food at 9:50 and was told the kitchen was closed- others still were receiving food after we tried to order.
google avatar

Natasha B.

Yelp
This place was so great. They had live music which was so 90s it was amazing bartenders were really friendly. There is some space in the back that is a bit quieter (before the band started) where you can sit and chat. They have shuffle board and big Jenga. Old fashioned was good, Manhattan was not my thing. The sweet potato fries were sooooo good and the pretzel was good to but they are both ginormous so make sure u share.
