Traveling and Want to Eat and Drink Like a Local? Go to the Hostel Bar | Eater

"Tucked into a quiet corner of the 15th arrondissement, this hostel bar feels more like a local after-work haunt than a tourist spot—roughly 70 percent locals to 30 percent guests—where inexpensive glasses of Burgundy and a lush, tucked-away terrace make it ideal for people-watching (and a contemplative smoke) without the usual Paris price tag." - Mackenzie Filson

The 9 Best Hostels in Paris (Updated 2025)

"A 15‑minute walk from the Eiffel Tower, 3 Ducks has one of the best locations in town: friendly staff, small but comfortable rooms, clean showers and one of the cheapest, most social bars in Paris. The beds have thin mattresses and no curtains, but there are plenty of outlets, lights and small lockers; it’s super affordable, social and a great place to meet other travelers—my second‑favorite hostel in the city." - Matthew Kepnes

I was very happy with my stay here! ||The hostel felt clean and safe (as a solo female traveler). The rooms felt very accurate to the pictures online. The surrounding area has many shops and restaurants (I tried a new boulangerie every morning of my almost week long stay and still didn’t exhaust the options). 30 minute walk to the Eiffel and everything else pretty much is very easily accessed by the nearby Metro 8 line. ||One note on noise is that the bar is very audible from the room, as well as the nearby church’s loud bells that go off periodically. That said, neither of these things bothered me or impacted my sleep at all, especially since I was already prepared with ear plugs (as you should bring to any hostel). I don’t think the noise went too late into the night either (but I wouldn’t know because I went to bed early every night)||I didn’t interact much with the staff but every interaction I did have was pleasant and helpful.||Some amenities included outlets next to all of the beds as well as lockers. Note that the lockers are nowhere near big enough to fit a suitcase/large travel backpack, but there’s plenty of space for valuables (passport/wallet/electronics). Everyone in my room just put the rest of our stuff under the beds and had no problems. AC worked great (and felt amazing during this heatwave) and the shower had good heat/water pressure. Wifi worked well for me the entire time ||Since the bar is mainly filled with locals the hostel didn’t have much of an inherent social vibe. For me, I made several friends in my room so I was completely satisfied. I didn’t meet anyone in any of the other rooms though, so if you’re looking for a super social experience I do think it somewhat comes down to luck with your roommates.

I had a wonderful stay at The 3 Ducks! The hostel has a good atmosphere, is well located, and everything was clean and cozy. (Except sometimes, soap missing in the bathrooms) But what really made the difference was the amazing staff. Thank you all for being so welcoming and helpful! A special shout-out to José for his kindness and great energy. I truly appreciate it and hope to come back someday!

My husband and I and our two boys, 16 and 21, stayed at the hostel for two nights in a private room. It was a perfect location with accommodating staff and affordable prices for our family to explore Paris! Our boys enjoyed the young vibe.

I tried to make a reservation in this hostel twice for me and my friend, not only did they not let us make the reservation but we were charged fraudulent transactions, our bank had to cancel the charges when they saw it might be fraud and they had to cancel our credit cards. We never got to the place but we ended up making a reservation at a hotel in the center of paris that ended up being cheaper. Be careful.

Google
Horrible place. The rooms are very small. There were 4 double-decker bunks in the room. There is very little space between bottom and top mattress, this doesn't allow to sit on your bed, you need to crawl in and then stay low. One very small table and one chair. This is designed to keep you out of your room for all day. This is not a hostel per se. It's a bar, open until 23:00, full of noisy people, and expect football matches transmitted all evening (as you can imagine, those are not quiet crowds). Also, forget about kitchen. It's small, very smelly and right next to the bar toilet. This is designed to fit this place into hostel category, but in fact it's useless. All in all, not a honest place.

Google
I booked a bed in a mixed dormitory room for three nights via Booking.com, whilst visiting Paris for Roland Garros. The location was good, and the room was clean, though the bed was a little bit uncomfortable. At roughly 50 GBP per night, it was also very expensive for a hostel. On arrival I was also asked to pay a room key deposit in cash, plus the city tax: it wasn't clear that the tax wasn't included in my online payment, as was the case for other bookings throughout my time abroad.

Google
Its such a noisy hostel you can hear everyone (talking/yelling) in the backyard up until 3am. Also our room smelled like suwage eventho we informed them they did nothing about if :) The room did not worth the price they charged for

Google
Location, employees, AND hostel were great. My friend and I are here in Paris for a school trip and decided to stay here before our program started. It was a delightful time chatting with the employees/bartenders, and they gave us some great tips about Paris! Thank you 3 Ducks, I will be back!!

Yelp
My friend & I stayed at this hostel for 3 nights & it was a good decision!! Staff are friendly & helpful. It's a bit different at first because it's a bar but then there's an outside area that you pass to get to the rooms. The room for 8 people was clean, the bunk beds were a bit shaky, did not feel super sturdy climbing up but definitely do-able. One con was the locker sizes to put your stuff are really slim & personally my important bag did not fit so I just had to lock it & leave it on the bed in hopes that nothing would happen. Also this hostel was definitely a more older crowd vibe- everyone in the 8- person shared room was in bed by 8-10pm every night, so if you're looking for a younger crowd this might not be your first choice. But overall it was a solid hostel for 3 nights, everyone was respectful & we appreciated our stay here & thought the location was perfect to get around the city it's next to public transportation which is super convenient. Thank you for having us.

Yelp
Fabulous. I have been here 4 times since 1989 lol. So much fun. Great staff and amazing people. The bar. Always awesome! Clean and friendly. Try it you won't be sorry!

Yelp
The front desk is so helpful with all our tourist questions! Check in process was easy and if you come before your room is ready, they also have a luggage room with cameras that they monitor closely. We had a private room for 4 and it was quite tight- good enough for just a place to sleep and shower. The bunk beds were so frail though, so any movement made the bed squeaks loudly. We had 3 people in our party, but booked all 4 beds just so we can secure the privacy.

Yelp
For what we paid, this hostel satisfied what we needed. Our room was an 8-bed mixed dorm, and I was in Paris for a weekend girls trip with one of my college friends. Our room was 2 stories with 4 beds on each and the bathroom on the bottom floor. Even though we booked in the same reservation, we didn't like being split up floors where I was alone upstairs, but it was fine. The wifi broke the first day which was difficult as students but was fixed the rest of the weekend. What you would expect from a hostel in terms of cleanliness, had to switch beds the first day because mine wasn't cleaned before check-in, but the staff was great. About a 10-15 minute walk to the Eiffel Tower which we did but unless you're willing to walk, there weren't a million restaurants nearby.

Yelp
Amazing service ! We came in and check in was super easy and they had so many different language options to make it simple for anyone to understand. Air conditioning and breakfast included, Alexandria was so helpful and kind! Definitely recommend

Yelp
Giving this a 3 star review because it's clean and bar service is good. I wasn't a fan of everything else. The receptionist lady was rude at times and didn't explain certain things to us properly which led us to lose money at the end. The rooms are small (which I completely understand, it's a hostel after all not a 5 star hotel) but the thing that sucks is that the bunk beads are cheap and they creak like crazy. Any movement that the person makes on the top bunk makes annoying, loud, creaking sounds all night long. The sheets are paper thin and comes off with no effort leaving you sleeping on cold rubbery mattresses. The biggest thing I was not expecting is how loud the courtyard was. This place is a very popular hangout spot/bar for all the locals around here. Which sounds cool when you're booking the place but they are so loud and it's hard to go to sleep and stay asleep. All the laughing/drinking/ and moving around just makes it uncomfortable to sleep. So don't book here if you're looking for a comfortable sleep each night. Breakfast is your typical free hostel breakfast. Nothing to really say about it. WIFI IS GARBAGE I almost forgot to say this. They're WiFi is so slow it was painful. Couldn't even send a photo through text. TLDR Bar service good Clean facility Rude staff Squeaky beds Loud Patrons, hard to sleep Ok breakfast Painfully slow WiFi. Would I book here again? Hard no. Would be a good place to have drinks though since it's cheap and they play good music but definitely won't be staying here again.

Yelp
I booked this hostel because I really wanted to see the Eiffel Tower while in Paris and their description stated that it was a ten minute walk. That's a lie. It's more of at a 15 min. The hostel is located very close to the Felix Faure metro station making it very convenient. The hostel itself has been renovated recently and looks very modern. The hostess we checked in was very courteous and friendly. I'm not sure why I read other reviews complaining about the service. I guess they have improved lol. Anyways, once you immediately enter the door, you will encounter the bar with plenty of tables and chairs. This area is also used for the complimentary breakfast that they serve. There are also plenty of charging ports for phones and laptops. The room that I stayed in was designed for four people., and the room itself is very modern and cool. There are two bunk beds, and each bed comes equipped with its own light, USB port, and outlet. The bathroom is split up into two rooms. One room contains the toilet and a sink, and the other room contains a shower and a sink. There is also a towel dryer. The hostel does not provide any toiletries or towels, but you can purchase them at the front desk. Would I stay at this location again? Yes! I really enjoyed my time here and the convenience was amazing since I was so close to the metro!

Yelp
When I first travelled to Europe on my own, I stayed at hostels. In Paris, I stayed at 3 Ducks. Back then I shared a room with three other people. Security wasn't good. You could store your back pack in their storage room. Bring a wire lock so you can wrap and lock you pack to the bed. The rooms were basic but breakfast was included. I paid 10 franc per night. It was before they switched to euros. Last year, we visited Paris and walked by 3 Ducks. It looked modern and updated. They have more amenities than they did when I stayed there. If you're traveling alone or with a family in Europe and on a budget, I highly recommend staying at hostels. I would recommend 3 Ducks in Paris. You can walk or get on public transport easily from the hostel.

Yelp
We loved the bartenders. Pedro was amazing. Same with Pablo and the other dudes! The main lady was quite rude- seemed to have ripped us off for wine and our key deposit. Felt unorganized. The rooms were okay. Fairly clean. Free breakfast: no hardly. Not a good breakfast. Some cereal and yogurt and bread. WiFi: TERRIBLE. Overall experience was saved because the bartenders are awesome. Would I stay again? If I ever come back to the country maybe but its not my first choice.

Yelp
This place is absolute TRASH! I highly recommend looking elsewhere. The staff is unbelievably unprofessional and just not worth your time or money. Plus the rooms are tiny, dirty and smelly and you can hear all of the noise from courtyard. Find something better!

Yelp
When most people think of a hostel, they think of a place that's only suitable to lay down their head for an average night's sleep. However, this hostel far exceeds those expectations and worth the price that we paid. The pictures on hostels.com were very truthful, accurate and represented the hostel very well. When my friend and I arrived at midnight to check-in, the staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room and linens were very clean. The neighborhood was very safe and quiet. There was a bar attached to the hostel which was very lively, but not too loud. The breakfast was a typical European Breakfast with lots of choices of drinks and toppings for our breads. There was a safety deposit box for each bed. Our room had the wash room and the toilet en suite (inside of our room) which worked out very well. Our room was also all female, our suite mates were very respectful and from various places throughout Europe. The things that I liked most about this hostel are the following (No particular order) Friendly and multilingual staff Rooms were cleaned each day White, clean, and fresh linens En Suite Washrooms Safe neighborhood Breakfast and Wifi included Central to everything Newly renovated The only thing that I didn't like was that if we moved too much, the bunk beds would squeak. That could be because the bed frames were made of metal rather than wood.

Yelp
Wow! This was my first time at a hostel, if this is what hostels are I'm sold, super! From the time you enter the friendly hip little bar, you feel home, well comes by the friendly staff, check in at the bar. Cross the cute outdoor patio that the room surround. Extremely clean rooms. Whether you're traveling alone or with friends this place is perfect. The hip bar lobby is a great place to hang, after a long day exploring Paris. 20 minute walk to the Louvre or Eiffel Tower. Meet new friends among the other international guests and locals that frequent the bar. There where 5 in our group, we stayed 3 days in a two level 5 bed flat with shower and lav. You can not beat the price. I highly recommend 3 Ducks Hostel.

Yelp
Nice location, only a twenty minute minute walk from the Eiffel which was misleading because on hostelworld.com it said it was ten minutes! The employees were nice and the outside patio was adorable! Loved the spiral staircase and furniture inside and outside of the bar. My only complaint is that the inside and luggage room were really small! The rooms were really nice and loved that the wall outlets had the USB socket in there so you didn't need the cube to put it in the outlet! But it's conveniently located because it's right near the metro and by a great grocery store if you're craving a good meal or snack..there's many options there. Just take a left out of the hostel walk for a few minutes and it's across the street.

Yelp
This place was excellent during the 4 nights I stayed during Christmas week. Bar/Hostel combined, good security, and the noise wasn't so bad as I read; I imagine it depends who's staying at the night, which is the same risk at any other hostel. I was right at the bottom floor next to the bar so my room should have had it the worst. You could hear light rumbles from the nearby metros though (Commerce and Felix Faux stops). Bathroom inside of the rooms, and showers were nicer / more spacious than the one I use at home w/ mounted hair dry near the sink; only a problem if more than one person in the room wants to use ie. someone has to use the toilet and someone is in the shower. The hangar in the bathroom had a heater on it, which I have never seen before (kept my towel warm and ready for me when I got out of the shower). Bunk beds seemed the same as any other hostel. I've read that the rooms smell, but I did not notice this at all... maybe they had a smelly flatmate that day, but this is not intrinsic of the hostel. It was very clean and free of odor, and this is true even for the bar area. BREAKFAST INCLUDED (croissants, cereal, coffee), and small kitchen with nearby grocers/epiceries! Super nice place to relax and great environment; TV running the news on low volume. Plenty of utensils although lacking storage space if a lot of people staying (only one cabinet with 3 shelves); there is a fridge and they throw everything out every Sunday. Good eating options down rue du commerce. You can save a lot of money front-loading your meals before going out... food in Paris seem more expensive (about €13/plate for a lot of places) and breakfast options seem pretty typical (bread/croissant and eggs), and so you might as well enjoy the free ones that taste the same. Nice and safe hang out, and staff were super friendly. Safe location near the Eiffel tower... walk took me about 20 minutes to get there, but walk to metro is like 2 minutes and can take a stop right to wherever you'd like (can get almost anywhere in less than 10 minutes if you want). Service was excellent. Staff was very friendly and spoke English and Spanish very well (if your French isn't good). If I had stayed longer, I am almost sure I would have added them on Facebook and call them friends for life because they seem so cool and were very open- hell, I'd be open to do that if they ever found this review, and I do hope to return; this is the location I will choose without doubt.

Yelp
This was a nice place for me because I was traveling alone in paris for a short period. However, the sheets had very visible stains on them. The fitted sheet would not stay on the mattress and the bed loudly creaked when I moved the slightest bit. In addition, the floor was pretty dirty. On the other hand, breakfast was great, plenty of options. The usb chargers next to the beds and individual reading lights were very handy. The shower was excellent and had a heated towel rack! Two sinks in the room was perfect. Good place to stay but concerned about the cleanliness of it. Looks exactly as pictured online.

Yelp
Completely renovated hostel with a great atmosphere and a lovely staff. Really close to metro stop Commerce and a 15 minute walk away from the Eiffel tower. The bar is really nice and filled with travelers in the evening, looking for a conversation and a beer. We stayed in the 6 bed dorm which was nice, the beds are comfortable and each bed has an own light, two USB ports for charging and a normal power socket. The dorm has one toilet and one shower, although there are more toilets in the hallway. Breakfast was great! Croissants, normal bread, butter, different kinds of jams, Nutella and a choice if cereals with milk, and of course coffee/tea. We would like to thank the staff for a pleasant stay in lovely Paris!

Yelp
Stayed 4 nights here. The good:LOCATION!! Great location! Metro is very close and you can walk to the Eiffel Tower. Safe place too. Environment : Really chill atmosphere. Nothing crazy or too much of a party place but you can hang out at the bar and meet with others traveling around too. Breakfast: Free. Simple. Gets the job done. Just make sure you're there within the period. Rooms: Clean and you have your own locker. The bad: For the first time in France, I was greeted by the worst customer service rep I could have asked for. I'm not sure how or why she would want to work with people as she was by far the rudest person to encounter on my trip throughout Europe. Kinda gave me the impression that all French will be like her. Thank god she was the only one because everyone else was great! The bed: Not the most comfortable thing ever. Bed sheet kept coming off as well. Would I stay here again, yes! Just don't let the one woman intimidate you and have her make you think that all French are like her because you will absolutely love Paris and the people there.

Yelp
Very beautiful hostel in a lovely and clean area! I wish I could've stayed longer than two nights because the atmosphere was so comforting and warm! 3 ducks has propably the most professional staff in the whole Paris! I didn't enjoy myself anywhere as well as there... Staff was always helpful and even gave us advice of good places to go, for example they recommended very nice creperie that I loved! I could praise the staff for days but maybe I need to be specific about other things too... Nothing just could wipe the smile on their faces! The decoration was very modern and didn't have that 'crummy' look like many other hostel. Beds and sheets were very comfortable and the blanket was warm (that's not something you should take as granted). The patio was lovely, but I'll bet it will be crowded on the summer! 3 ducks bar was also ideal, you don't always have to look for the party, you can just stay in your hostel and meet new people there. Only thing that wasn't so good was that you could hear very well all the noise from the street. But if you have walked all day in Paris, you wont mind a little noise when going to sleep ;) I will come back to 3 ducks!

Yelp
This place is unreal in terms of beauty for a hostel. For a hotel even. It's very clean and very recently remodeled (2014 I think?) you can kind of smell the new paint, but not in a bad way, in a wow look how new this place is! The connected bar is a place you'd actually want to spend time even if you weren't staying here. It's bustling with social activity and the staff is friendly and good looking. What more could you need. The courtyard is absolutely picturesque, too bad it's too cold to take advantage of right now. The only negative aspect of this hostel is the lack of elevators, but that's pretty much par for the course in a hostel in Europe.

Marlon B.

Yelp
Very nice place all new the black spot is the manager She's not to freindly cold as a rock

Yelp
The 3 Ducks Hostel was absolutely worth the stay. All of the staff are really nice and can speak English fluently. The bar is nice and has a welcoming atmosphere (like a coffee shop) during the day and gets quite lively at night. Breakfast is included each day and consists of a relatively good assortment of foods and beverages. The hostel is also right next to a metro station giving you quick access to the whole of Paris. The area is safe with lots of cafes, restaurants and bars to visit day or night. Also, it is located about 15 minutes walk from the Eiffel Tower! Certainly better than dropping hundreds of dollars for a mediocre hotel room in the over crowded tourist areas!!

Van P.

Yelp
Great place, the bartenders are specially helpful, they know their wat around, you can live your luggage in a safe room and explore the city while your room is cleaned or when if you need to wait for your plane/train/ bus. Free wifi, good drinks free breakfast. Electrical outlets and nightlight next to every bed. Clean bathrooms and showers.

Lesley P.

Yelp
The staff from the owner/manager, receptionist to the cleaning staff were absolutely kind and easy to strike a conversation with! Its bar gets pretty lively in the evening and it attracts more french townspeople than the actual hostel dwellers which is a quite nice way to meet new people. The price per night is costly by hostel terms especially for the size of a 6 br dorm but i guess that's what you get for being a 15 min walk to the Eiffel tower, let alone Paris!

Leigh M.

Yelp
Booked an 8-bed room for a weekend in Paris. Felt very safe and the street is accessible for Ubers and is close to a metro stop. It's also next door to a church so there was usually a quick bell symphony during the day and you can hear staff dragging patio furniture if you're on the ground floor. It could've just been my room but we did also have a slight sewage smell (might've been our own fault because the bathroom is just a sliding door straight into the room), but overall very clean and hip, nice breakfast, and a great bang for your buck.

Yelp
Oh, how I wanted to really enjoy my stay at Three Ducks. The rooms themselves are nice and clean, but the customer service was dreadful. I will usually forgive bad service, afterall, people can have bad days. It was consistently poor, and resulting in more hassel for me. I had to come back down numerous times for information that should have been given to me right when I walked in (for example, where do I sleep? What is the wifi password? What do I do with the bedding?). The thing that takes the cake though is that the night before I checked out I came back to my room to drop something off, only to find out my card didn't work. I went downstairs to be greeted with "didn't you know you had to move tonight?" Um, no, that's why I am talking to you lady. So, I had to move all my stuff in the storage room, and didn't come home until 1 a.m. (it was Bastille day), and then I woke everyone up because I was trying to move in. Plus, there are no elevators, which is pretty standard in European hostels, but it just made for more noise. I ended up changing outside because I felt so bad for waking my room mates up. I would not recommend this hostel or come back.

Chanel M.

Yelp
Clean, comfortable hostel with breakfast included, luggage storage, excellent wifi, and fabulous location. Highly recommend
