17 FiDi Lunch Spots Under $20

"When lunch calls for takeout dim sum, local chain 3 Times is a reliable source to stock up on a midday feast. The restaurant is a quick and easy stop for juicy soup dumplings, puffy pork buns, and warm and flakey puff pastry rounds stuffed with sweet (red bean) or savory (dried shrimp and shredded Chinese radish) fillings. Noodles, fried rice, and heftier vegetable and meat dishes are also on the menu." - Eater Staff

I found this little spot just around the corner from our hotel! It’s such a great option if you’re not up for a trek to Chinatown, especially with the thunderstorm and flash flood warning we had during our stay. The roast duck was delicious, and the green dumplings filled with spinach and mushrooms were fantastic—the spinach tasted super fresh, not frozen at all. If you're in the area, I highly recommend checking it out!

The food was so good, the price is easy to afford for the simple meal. The dumplings they are the best didn’t disappoint me at all you must try their dumplings. They have the screen to place the order. Good location to try.

We got there when they opened and sat at the their largest table (can seat up to 5-6). They bought us water, and the menus very quickly. Once we ordered it did not take long before our food arrived. Our food was so good! We loved our food and would go back again in the future. Very clean restaurant. Great portions.

If you're near the financial district and craving tasty, hassle-free soup dumplings, head to the intersection of Water St and Pearl St. I also enjoyed their beef soup and egg rolls. The exceptionally friendly and sincere service enhanced the experience. I highly recommend this place and will definitely be back!

After a long day exploring NYC, we got back to our hotel and were hungry. There wasn't really much around us, so we got DoorDash from this spot. We ordered: - Spicy Soup Dumplings - Dan Dan Noodles with Minced Pork - Fried Rice Noodles with Beef I know takeout isn't the same, but I was pretty disappointed. The Fried Rice Noodles were the best thing. The Spicy Soup Dumplings were pretty bland somehow and the Dan Dan Noodles had literally no flavor and were really mushy. I've never had any that bad before. I'm hoping it was just an off night or that takeout somehow ruined it.

My friend had dined here before and she said it was pretty good. We were walking in the neighborhood at lunchtime and thought we would stop in. Reasonable pricing. She chose pan fried pork dumplings and scallion pancake wrapped w. beef. The dumplings came out first, it was hot, good and FLAVORFUL. The beef noodle soup was the best, tasty and full of vegetables and beef. Service was courteous and efficient. I would have lunch here again. They have many tempting dishes on their menu.

I ordered a soup bun and a geo shrimp. I found it’s 3 times while waiting and felt happy because I was satisfied last time at Clinton branch. The restaurant has a very heavy kitchen smell in the front waiting area. I found a hair in my soup bun at the bottom of the bun and it tasted not like fresh pork as they advertised, it’s not fresh pork, it’s like impossible meat and tough. Then I had the geo shrimp then I doubted the shrimp was too tender like not fully cooked. I’m disappointed. I know it’s tough time for any business but you should try your least effort for the people who pairs price. Won’t go there any more. Thank you.

We tried this spot when we were exploring around Financial District in the summer. I heard their dishes are more authentic and tasty, so we decided to go and try some of their dishes. The inside was rather small, but cozy and clean. Since we didn’t really know the size of each dish, we started with three orders: Fried Rice with Shredded Pork, Shrimp Wontons in Chili Oil, and Pan Fried Pork & Crab Roe Buns. Fried rice was just a-ok, but we enjoyed the wonton and buns, especially the silky wontons. The items with red pepper on the menu, indicating "spicy" were not that spicy, but had a nice kick to it. After that, we added Shanghai Fried Noodles with Shrimp, and Sautéed Eggplant with Garlic & Chili Sauce. The noodles were a-ok, nothing really special. Eggplant was a pleasant surprise. It looked beautiful, and we received mountain of them. They had great flavor, and just melt in your mouth. So good! The female staff at the ordering counter was very friendly and polite. The price range for this spot is a bit pricier, but you have to consider the location. I still think it is very affordable for Financial District location. Also, I thought it was great that they serve their food in takeout containers, so that if you don’t finish eating them, you can simply ask for some lids, and you are good to go!

Yelp
Really loved this place!! It's a quiet, low key spot, but both the service and food was amazing! Food - I really enjoyed all the food we ordered. We got the general tsos tofu, veggie dumplings, and Singapore fried noodles. The general tsos was definitely the best, but the noodles were a close second. The tofu had great flavor, and though it was crispy/fried, the tofu was still silky/soft. The staff was super friendly and kind. Dine in is served in take-away containers, but didn't take away from the experience/food

Yelp
Chill ambience for a quick lunch, or dinner, food was ready pretty quick.. but my roasted duck noodles was below par. Lack of flavor, and duck was kinda hard to chew, and so much bones. Good portion, but im not sure if im coming back here anytime soon.. perhaps I'll try another dish.

Yelp
I came here for lunch. Food is ordered using a kiosk. I had chicken soup dumplings, spring rolls and iced lychee iced tea. The quick meal hit the spot. Small space to accommodate takeout and dining in options. Service was quick.

Yelp
I went back for the dumplings/wontons. I had the pork/shrimp ones in chili sauce. It was good but I left still feeling hungry.

Yelp
Really wanted to like the restaurant - close and has many items that I would have liked to tried. Unfortunately, I ordered the BBQ pork and duck rice bowl and the duck was almost rancid! The BBQ pork was just fine. The wrapper on the spicy wontons were thick and just not great. You know you are in trouble when the star of the dish is the white rice.

Yelp
I wanted something filling and warm. I looked online and this location was close to work and I saw that it had great reviews. I reviewed the site online and the menu and ordered the small wonton soup and fried noodles with seafood. I easily paid online through the YELP app for pickup. The pickup time was quite quick and I immediately went over to pick it up. The location faces Water Street but there is work being done to the surrounding area so you have to really be observant of your surroundings to locate the restaurant. The restaurant is a bit small but adequate for dine in. The service is okay, no one really greeted me or ask me if I needed assistance. I had say excuse me twice to get their attention but my order was ready and I took it and left. The food was great the servings were large and the soup was nice mix of broth, seaweed, and wonton. It was warm and filling. It was also not salty. Which was so nice. So many times when I get wonton soup it's salty. The fried noodles were great but it only had shrimp and the description said seafood. I was expecting some additional types of seafood. All in all it was a really good meal

Yelp
I absolutely love this spot! The servers and cashiers are always consistently kind, courteous, and helpful. Today, my father and I visited as they were open for Easter, and had a really lovely dining experience thanks to the attentive, kind server! The dining experience is a bit more "no frills" than other dim sum spots (i.e. plastic plates/paper cups/containers), but I think it's because the food is the focus and it's a spot designed to be enjoyed as takeout as well as dine in. I'm a big fan of the food - consistently delish, no matter what you get. The soup dumplings are some of my favorites--such a flavorful broth and meat filling. Today, I tried out the chinese broccoli which is served with rice, and it was also super flavorful and a fantastic portion. I have leftovers for dinner now!! They have self-serve water as well as utensils and napkins galore. The place is nice, quaint, cozy, and clean. It's always a go-to spot when I'm in the area! Today, it was a little cold in the restaurant, but they were super responsive and eager to fix the issue when we brought it up. I'll be back!

Yelp
Service -- ordered on uber eats only to find out they don't deliver. Called them twice to check on order and they still never communicated that they won't deliver.

Yelp
My partner and I stopped by the other day for dinner and really enjoyed the food. It was a rainy Sunday with a lot of people coming and going to pick up takeout (also quite a few dining in!). The Hong Kong style fried rice was my favorite, with the shrimp wontons in chili oil coming in close second. The rest of the food delicious as well. Service was friendly, but a little slow given how busy their takeout section was. Very understandable, given it's a small place and the food was great. Would return again!

Yelp
I was in the area for an event and stopped in for dinner before I went ahead period I usually go to other locations of this chain and this was my first visit to this period the staff was a little more like a fast food version and you order at the counter and wait for your food. The kitchen door is often open as it is the entrance to the restroom. It isn't as clear/clean as the other locations (there are viewing windows to watch noodle pulls). It was very oily, but the flavors were still there. Not the best, nor the worst.

Yelp
This place has so much potential but a friend and I were underwhelmed when we stopped in. It was a cold out, and we were in the mood for a quick casual bite. But it was just as frigid inside, and even the workers kept their winter puffers on while working. We sat down and ordered their crab and pork soup dumplings as well as as their chilli sauced wontons. The soup dumplings were alright, not the best and not the worst. The chili sauced chicken and mushroom dumplings (presumably the sichuan style) were bathed in a soy sauce that was too overwhelming for the dumplings and there was no chili so we had to ask for the sauce separately. Everything came to the table in single use plastic containers (which I am personally trying to avoid in my own life). We requested tea, but there was none (no tea for dim sum/yum cha, which literally means "drink tea" in Cantonese). Finally, the waitress reminded us that table service meant that a tip was expected (which we completely anticipated in the first place) and pointed at a recently cleared table, which unfortunately, had not left her anything. All in all, and apart from my sympathies to the poor workers, to whom we left over 20 percent of the bill for tip, it was a subpar and uncomfortable experience for us.

Yelp
We stayed Hilton and didn't want to go out again after a long day. So we found this little place next of hotel. My mom wanted warm fried rice and cooked soft broccoli. The chef did exactly what we asked! Everyone is so nice there!

Yelp
(Overall: 85% | B) - The servers are nice and attentive and the place looks great and can fit a large group of people! Overall, pretty reasonably priced and decent quality Chinese food. (Garlic Chili Eggplant: 100% | A+) - The eggplant was the star of the meal! It was masterfully cooked such that it was tender on the inside and kept texture on the outside. It was well flavored with an addicting garlic chili sauce that wasn't too spicy that made this dish very desirable. (Sauteed Chinese Broccoli: 77.5% | C) - The Chinese broccoli was correctly cooked but boring and needed garlic and/or oyster sauce to lift the dish. (Chili Wontons: 95% | A) - The chili wontons surprised me in a good way -- they were meticulously prepared and presents itself as a delicate dish; the flavors had a natural balance -- it brought a nice saltiness without being too spicy that was pleasant overall. (Vegetarian Dumplings: 55% | F) - The vegetarian dumplings did not hit the same notes as the wontons unfortunately. There was a strange combination of flavors in the filling that made it very displeasing to consume. (Double Cooked Pork Belly - 65% | D) - The double cooked pork belly made little sense to me as the pork belly was very thin; cooking it twice simply reaffirmed that its overcooked and gave it poor texture despite it having good flavor development. (Shanghai Noodles - 90% | A) - The Shanghai noodles were good, as it hit all the flavor and nutritional components. The point of improvement here is the presentation, but it is very well priced. (Crab Roe XLB: 97.5% | A) - A soup dumpling with crab and topped with roe! The dumplings are delicately wrapped with an abundance of soup; the meat is very tender and pairs well with the dish; overall very good execution of the dish!

Yelp
The person at the register was super attractive! The ambiance is neat and aesthetically pleasing. The food wasn't very good. I ordered chicken soup dumplings and the braised beef soup. I've had both of these dishes before at other places, so I did come in with some expectations. The soup dumplings didn't have much flavor, I added some hot sauce and it helped a little for flavor but no real spice. The braised beef soup was the most disappointing of the two. The beef was chewy and the cuts didn't look well cared for. I definitely wasn't expecting the best cuts of meat but many of the braised beef dishes that I've had (around the same price $17) included tender chunks of beef. This beef wasn't tender. The soup was salty as well, I couldn't finish it. The place was empty, but it was a warmer day so maybe people weren't looking for soup dumplings. Idk. I spent $31 on soup, dumplings and a drink.

Yelp
Was craving some shanghainese last night so my partner and I decided to try a new spot in the neighborhood, and it did not disappoint! We wanted to try a little bit of everything (all looked good as we watched them make the orders), but stuck with soup dumplings, wontons in chili oil, fried dumplings, scallion pancakes and Shanghai noodles (and as much as we tried, couldn't finish it all!). I thought they were all winners (fav wontons), but I'd prob try a different noodle / rice next time. We walked in for pickup and they were super quick and friendly. Good to know there is another great option in the neighborhood for my dim sum cravings!

Yelp
Great option for lunch, I recommend ordering ahead if you can. The food is made and can be 10mins wait but we'll worth it. The kitchen is open, so you can watch the chef work. Staff is friendly. Pan fried dumpling- overall delicious, Pork soup dumpling- served hot! The broth is light and refreshing

Yelp
I loved all the food we got here! The pan fried dumplings were deliciousness and I was so happy we made the decision to stop in!

Yelp
This place looks basic, but there's nothing basic about their food. I was staying in the area and needed my fix. I had the steamed pork buns and spicy eggplant. It was just the perfect amount of food for one person, plus some leftover. May even be enough for two if you're not too hungry The pork buns arrived hot and tasted so gooooood! That first bite and pop of the bun is always the best. Eggplant has always been one of my favorite dishes, anywhere. This spicy eggplant was great too! Was great with the side of rice. Service was fast and friendly. I was pretty much in and out, but that's exactly what I wanted.

Yelp
My pork soup dumplings were very good as well as the shrimp dumplings which surprised me as the dumpling itself was clear. the pieces are quite oversized so get ready to fill up on one or two orders. The restaurant was ice cold, it was almost unbearable sitting in here. Im not sure if I came too early and the place didn't heat up yet but they should be warming up the facility an hour prior to open if they're hosting humans!

Yelp
Self- order machine! Very easy to use! The food is good, the price is reasonable, definitely will come back!

Yelp
Came in for a late night dinner. Sat down right away and ordered three plates. The wait was a little long but understand that some dishes might take longer than others. All the food came together so that was nice! The shrimp and chive dumplings were my favorite. The soup dumplings were okay, not much soup inside This is my second location ive tried of three times and both were a good experience.

Yelp
Have been meaning to try 3 Times since they opened the restaurant in the Financial District and finally made a takeout order and was happy with the meal. The Pork Soup Dumplings and Shrimp Wontons were excellent starters. Though it didn't particularly stand out compared to similar dishes from other restaurants, the Fried Rice Noodles with Beef was still very good. Our favorite dish though was the Double Cooked Pork Belly which though we asked for not spicy was still very flavorful. Definitely expecting to be ordering more takeout from 3 Times in the future.

Yelp
Small place with only two staff members: chef and waitress. Simple but clean. Food came out quickly. Soup dumplings were excellent. Good amount of soup and flavor. The chicken wings were okay, not saucy or very flavorful - would not get again. Scallion pancakes were good. Prices are very reasonable for the amount of food you get. Would come back for the soup dumplings.
google avatar

Yushan H.

Yelp
It's basically a to go place. No restroom. All utensils are for single use. Portion is small.
google avatar

Emi B.

Yelp
Soup Dumpling dough is a little thicker for my liking but still juicy enough inside. Spicy Soup Dumpling one was pretty good. Crab Roe Soup Dumpling doesn't have much flavor which was odd. Chinese Broccoli was really good. Mustard Green & Shredded Pork Noodle Soup was not bad. Nice location, good addition to the neighborhood.
google avatar

Michelle H.

Yelp
Really good food and good service. Very kind waiter. Although the seating is limited, the delicious food makes up for it. We got the broccoli beef and it easily became our favorite, with the beef fried rice coming in behind. We also enjoyed the orange chicken.

Yelp
Great, clean, organized restaurant. Great packaging and portions. Found them on MealPal although I have worked in the area for a long time. Amazing food and quality. Highly recommend Gentleman who attended me was very pleasant

B A.

Yelp
Food is decent, but new management / personnel is taking the whole comically standoffish Asian tiger lady attitude to a whole new extreme. Curt, gruff, unfriendly, to dine in, take out customers, and delivery personnel alike. Needs a serious attitude adjustment. Also, the new "online ordering only" system is atrocious and has a lot fewer options than they used to.
google avatar

Rosie C.

Yelp
It was so delicious! I expected a bland taste for some reason ! But it was just right ! The price was a bit much, quality over quantity I get it. I'll be going back and trying some dumps.
google avatar

Kaley R.

Yelp
I've never been so happy to find a good dim sum spot in FiDi. Ordered takeout with hopes of filling a soup dumpling craving and 3 Times delivered. The soup dumplings were in tact, warm, and deliciously made. Perfect dough to pork ratio, and lots of soupy-ness inside. The Dan Dan noodles were also a huge hit. Delicious Sichuan flavors, I just wanted slightly more meat on this dish! We also got a side of green beans, Chinese broccoli, and scallion pancakes. The veggies were perfection, crispy and bright broccoli and perfectly sautéed green beans. My only not so favorite were the scallion pancakes. Just a little too greasy for me. Overall, will definitely be ordering from here again.

Yelp
I am sitting at thr restaurant, while eating and writing this review. The food is amazing! Location is good, service is soft, place is cute, clean and well lit (extra points). Can't go wrong here.
google avatar

Erin J.

Yelp
This is that hole in the wall place that they talk about. Small, not fancy. You eat out of plastic containers. But the food is spot on and it comes out super fast and it is hot and tasty and exactly what you want. Just say yes.
google avatar

Kristina I.

Yelp
Good service and some good dishes, but overall it was just an ok meal. Scallion pancakes were pretty undercooked (no crisp at all), chicken soup dumplings weren't very juicy... if that's the right word... and Persian cucumbers were a bit more wilted than normal. Shrimp chili wontons were good though!
google avatar

Yelp
It's great to see that 3 Times is having success and expanding into other districts of NYC. I stopped in with my gf for lunch. We ordered two of the Combo A ($15). This came with Sweet Potato Noodles & Beef Soup and a choice between Pork Soup Dumplings (6pc), Pan Fried Pork Buns (4pc), and one other item I don't remember. The Sweet Potato Noodles & Beef Soup has a hint of spice to it, bearable to most consumers. Pan Fried Pork Buns are a solid choice, but 3 Times pride themselves on soup dumplings so the Pork Soup Dumplings are the way to go. Make sure to remove them from the container carefully to avoid them from breaking. We also ordered Truffle Soup Dumplings (6pc) ($14). If you love truffle as much as I do, this is certainly an item to order. Unfortunately, as careful as you can be, half of the dumplings skin broke on me. Not sure if it's how it was made or what, as it was super fragile. This would be my only complaint.

Yelp
It's so hard to find Shredded Pork and Mustard Greens Noodle Soup. I took it for granted as a kid, and it was one of my top 5 noodle soup comfort bowls. Got a B+ on a test? SP&MG noodle soup. Lost the game by one point? SP&MG noodle soup. Got accepted by Yale but not Harvard? SP&MG noodle soup. You get what I'm saying. I used to have a reliable version in Midtown from Evergreen Shanghai, but their quality declined right around the time they stopped delivering through Seamless, so I was a sad lotus flower once again. Until 3 Times. They make SP&MG noodle soup, and they make it well. They make it the way Grandma made it. FRESH mustard greens (none of that pickled, canned, fermented sh*t). Meaty, fatty strips of pork (the collagen adds flavor, my pretties). Thick, chewy Shanghai noodles (the way Buddha intended; thin noodles are for the weak). Glory be and praise the Monkey King: I've found my NYC SP&MG noodle soup place! We also got Shrimp Wontons, which were fine but forgettable. I'll probably try other menu items one day, but everything else will have to take a backseat to my bowl of SP&MG noodle soup heaven.
google avatar

Michael P.

Yelp
Dan Dan noodles were spicy minced pork. Strong flavor. Spicy beef noodles and pepper as advertised. We tried a pork bun which although the outside was good the meat inside was like grounded up hamburger.

Serena O.

Yelp
At first I thought the food taste ok and soon realized that it wasn't hot at all and and was just semi warm almost cold really and understood why it was ready so quickly, the food after a few minutes started to have a terrible smell and then later left me sick, bad stomach ache. If I could get a refund I would. Probably won't eat from here ever again!
google avatar

Jenna T.

Yelp
To die for! Flavors were on point. Chicken was insanely good and the perfect numbing spice level. Loved the shrimp and broccoli and dumplings... Lots of food. The only thing that was not ideal was the use of disposable paper products for dine in, could be short staffing so understandable, but hate to see more waste than needed.
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
Ordered the beef noodle soup for takeout. I think the broth was definitely flavorful but in a very one dimension kind of way. The portions were pretty good, enough for me to split into a meal and a half. I had originally wanted the mustard and pork soup noodles but they unfortunately didn't offer it that day.
google avatar

Teresa V.

Yelp
Ordered an assortment of items off their menu to-go, which included: - Pan fried pork dumplings (top center of photo) - Pan fried veggie dumplings (top left of photo in green) - Shanghai pan fried pork buns (top right of photo) - Pan fried chicken dumplings (bottom left of photo) - Veggie and pork wontons in chili oil (bottom right of photo) - Crispy duck (bottom center) Of these, the only ones that were "okay" to me, were the wontons in chili oil although it didn't really taste like chili oil... The dumpling wrapper for all three types of dumplings above were a bit too thick/doughy to me and with not very much filling or seasoning (could be because it was later at night?). And the crispy duck tasted like it had been sitting in the kitchen and reheated a few too many times, waiting for someone to eventually order it, which was sadly me. Overall, I was disappointed with my experience. The staff was super nice to us but at the end of the day, I would not recommend and don't see myself returning. Maybe we just ordered the wrong things, at the wrong time and would've had a better experience if we had dine-in. Personally, you're better off taking the trip to Chinatown if you have the time to.

M And M C.

Yelp
Ordered delivery. The veg bun (which I was excited to order) was underwhelming, but dry and no sauce. The spring rolls greasy and the shrimp fried rice ok
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious stir fried rice cakes!!! So chewy and savory. The green beans were amazing too -- I ate the whole thing!

Yelp
We've been to the other location in lower east side and food was delicious, so I'm glad they opened a location closer to me. We came here on an early Friday afternoon, it was pretty empty with two people sitting outside. We chose to sit inside for the AC. We ordered the beef noodle soup, Dan Dan noodle, and spicy chicken wings. All came out quick, full of flavors, and popping hot. Definitely will be back.

Yelp
My friends and I were craving some noodles on a rainy day in FiDi. Luckily we stumbled upon 3 times. 3 times is definitely quality Shanghainese. We ordered the pan fried pork buns, pork soup dumplings, spicy wontons, Shanghai fried noodles, Chinese broccoli with garlic, and hot and sour soup. The food here had so much flavor. Definitely add some of their chili oil and the vinegar for the dumplings. We did not expect any Asian food to be this good in FiDi, but we loved our experience here. You can't go wrong with any of their soups, dumplings or entrees. The dumplings and soups came out super hot. Our food came out rather quickly and the staff were great at making our dining experience amazing. The local Yelpers definitely got it right here. This place was recently rated as review of the day as well. Make sure you come here for some qualify food.

Yelp
Welcome to the neighborhood. Just ordered takeout and I think it arrived before I pushed the send button. Ordered 3 items (in honor of 3 Times): 1) Crab soup dumplings -- beyond great! Not scalding hot which is key. They even travelled well. 2) Shanghai pan friend pork bun -- Excellent! Now I have 2 places to get this in FiDi 3) Scallion pancake -- Well done -- no grease Looking forward to trying some of their main dishes next time.

Yelp
Good dim sum, everything came out fresh and steaming hot. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is because it was a bit pricey and a lot of the buns/dumplings had similar tasting fillings. Otherwise was a good spot to grab some dim sum outside of Chinatown.
google avatar

Yelp
Pretty good. The siu mai was ok, not as condensed/ fat to meat ratio wasn't as I prefer. Deep fried chicken had a little too much salt, had a nice kick to it. My boyfriend liked the pork fried dumpling (beef was out when we got there). We both loved the beef fried rice. Staff is friendly and it's very clean. Might stop by before leaving to try the soup dumplings.
