The Owners of L’Orchidée de Chine Have a New Restaurant on the Plateau | Eater Montreal

"Run by Eva Lau and Joe Zhou, the new St-Laurent Boulevard restaurant quietly opened on Jan. 10 at 3627 St-Laurent Blvd., between Prince-Arthur and Pins; it is staffed largely by the same kitchen and wait team from their former Peel Street spot (co-owner George Lau has since retired from the food industry). The 70-seater has been “very busy” every night since opening, with many old customers returning, and Zhou says they will serve many of the same Szechuan dishes patrons loved at L’Orchidée de Chine — focusing on “only the best,” including dry garlic spare ribs, General Tao’s chicken, and other crowd favourites — and that patrons can explicitly ask for particular dishes from the L’Orchidée menu. The opening drew praise from former Montreal Gazette critic Lesley Chesterman on Twitter as “great restaurant news.” The restaurant is open for lunch 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and for dinner 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Sunday to Wednesday and until 11:30 p.m. Thursday to Saturday." - Audrey Carleton

We dined at 31 Lattitude last evening, and it was truly a magnificent experience. Unlike many Chinese restaurants, the menu here is thoughtfully curated, offering a smaller yet refined selection that makes choosing both simple and exciting. From the appetizers through to the main course, each dish was a delight—beautifully prepared, flavorful, and memorable. Combined with the restaurant’s elegant atmosphere and outstanding service, the entire evening was exceptional. I highly recommend 31 Longitude for anyone seeking fine cuisine in a welcoming setting.

You MUST eat here!! The food is amazing!! Best Chinese in Montreal. We wanted to try so many dishes. Won ton soup, hot and sour soup, spare ribs (the BEST), noodles, general tao’s, green beans, and shrimp with lobster sauce. Everything was super fresh and delicious. We can’t wait to go back! The owner Joe is so nice and accommodating, plus he’s been in the business for over 30 years.

31 Latitude, a trendy Chinese restaurant, has left me utterly impressed with their delectable cuisine and impeccable service. From the moment I stepped foot into this stylish establishment, I knew I was in for a treat. First and foremost, let's talk about their signature dish - the Sweet and Sour Spare Ribs. These succulent ribs are expertly marinated and cooked to perfection. The balance of sweetness and tanginess in the sauce is simply divine, making every bite a tantalizing experience. It's safe to say that this dish alone is worth visiting 31 Latitude for. But the excellence doesn't stop there. The restaurant also boasts an impressive selection of seafood dishes that are sure to satisfy even the most discerning palate. From the freshest catches of the day to classic seafood favorites, 31 Latitude offers a wide range of options that cater to all seafood lovers. Each dish is prepared with utmost care, ensuring that the flavors are enhanced and the seafood remains tender and juicy. At 31 Latitude, the dessert menu is a delightful surprise that takes the dining experience to a whole new level. From traditional Chinese sweets to innovative fusion creations, the desserts offered here are nothing short of extraordinary. The attention to detail in the presentation and the exquisite blend of flavors make these desserts a perfect ending to a memorable meal. Apart from the outstanding food, the ambiance of 31 Latitude is simply captivating. The trendy decor, elegant lighting, and comfortable seating create an inviting atmosphere that is both stylish and cozy. The attentive and friendly staff further enhance the dining experience, providing impeccable service and making you feel like a valued guest. In conclusion, 31 Latitude is a must-visit for anyone seeking a fashionable dining experience that combines exceptional Chinese cuisine with a trendy ambiance. Highly recommended!

An excellent fine Chinese cuisine downtown Montréal. From seafood to vegetarian options to meat choices, they all taste exquisite. Very nice atmosphere with fresh flowers, abstract paintings and kind personal. The most delicious peanut butter dumplings and garlic spareribs I’ve ever tasted.

I went there last week with my friend, and it was like experiencing a modern version of Chinese food. The variety of dishes we tried were absolutely delightful. The sautéed beef was tender and filled with savory flavors, and the crispy squid offered a satisfying crunch with a perfect balance of seasoning. The sautéed shrimp was a true highlight, with its succulent texture and a delightful mix of vegetables. The classic pork garlic spare ribs had a more pronounced garlicky aroma, though they were slightly harder than the similar dish from other restaurants. It was evident to me that the chefs were following traditional Chinese cooking styles while also exploring new pairings of vegetables and experimenting with flavor balances. You can find the most popular Chinese dishes, like sautéed shrimp, beef, and squid, but they did as most successful restaurants did, which is made the dish authentic with a unique twist.

Yelp
Save your money & go somewhere else. Way too overprice for what it is. I really dont mind paying for expensive foods but this is like stealing / ridiculous. Cheap quality foods, either too sweet or too salty & very small portion for an expensive price. Foods court or chinatown foods taste better & has double the portion. General tao is too way too sweet 22$ & Calamari 25$ is way too salty & both very small portion. Hot & Sour soup taste ONLY like soya sauce & not even 1 shrimp inside for 7$ a bol. With all that too sweet or too salty foods, they didn't even offer us a glass of water.

Yelp
As a former regular of Orchidee de Chine and before that Chrysanthemum I was excited to hear that Eva Lau was a partner in this restaurant and vowed that when I return to Montreal it would be my first stop. Started off with a very good and spicy hot and sour soup and the table had their crispy vegetable spring rolls which also were very good. Spare ribs too were ordered and very well liked being described as a close version to the original Ruby Foo's version. We also had their peanut butter dumplings which were no comparison to Orchidee and actually were mediocre. Spinach chicken and a tough orange beef, spicy shrimp and pan fried noodles with vegetables followed and unfortunately nothing was better than ok. A little disappointed but because Eva is involved I have to raise the rating.

Yelp
Hands down the best Chinese restaurant in Montreal. delicious food, great service, and enjoyable atmosphere. Not one of those typical cheap & dingy places for sure. For people with that price range in mind, just simply go to chinatown.

Yelp
The best fine Chinese cuisine one can find in Montreal, brings not only delightful culinary experience but also a slight modern twist that gives your taste buds pleasant surprises and harmonious flavors just sets itself apart! Very much enjoyed wonderful dishes there! The Orange beef is my favorite, simply the best anywhere in the world! The thin outer crispy layer over the best cut of beef, full of flavor and texture, a true culinary delight! Must have in Montreal! The restaurant has wonderful service and lovely ambiance too! Owner Joe makes each guest's visit a memorable delightful enjoyable experience!

Yelp
The beautiful glass wine case beckoned us in. We wanted wine and ended up having an amazing meal. The garlic short ribs were to die for. The Chinese vegetables fresh and delicious. We rounded it out with shrimp and pineapple fried rice, all of which that were gluten free for my friend with a gluten intolerance. Am making a point to go back before we head back home.

Yelp
We have lived and traveled in China and lived in NYC and the LA area. We have also visited San Francisco many times. 31 Latitude is one of if not the best Chinese restaurant in which we have dined. The Orange Beef and Pepper Chicken were fantastic. So was the shrimp. I strong recommend this restaurant.
