Yelp
Had a great afternoon, visiting with wife and daughter. The grounds were very relaxing and beautiful. A wedding was setting up and it looked nice. Everyone was friendly. Music under the stars or other events here I bet would be a good time. Tickets are reasonable at $12/adult. My wife is a teacher and she got $2 off. We enjoyed our time and would visit again.

Yelp
Burritt is great! A nice place atop Monte Sano! We grew up visiting Burritt regularly and particularly enjoyed the short hike to the cross, I believe it's a 40-foot cross, and it is a really easy, nice hike. There are other hiking trails at Burritt also. Of course, the views of "the Valley" are lovely, too! The Historic Park with barn animals is always nice, especially when a volunteer is dressed in period-appropriate costume and doing demonstrations. My previous job held nearly every Christmas event at Burritt, so do consider it an event space, also. They offer a plethora of events now days, compared to when I was a little girl, and my sister has attended many of them. City Lights and Stars is going on this time of year. It's live music, food trucks, wine/beer available and bring your own picnic and lawn chair. And you can sign up for a stained glass wall mirror class or a gnome making class for the young uns! And you can take a class to design and create a set of four flower-themed garden stakes. Year round, Burritt hosts special events and be sure to look into purchasing a membership to hopefully save a few bucks that you can spend in the gift shop!

Yelp
What a great place! So much to do and see. Alice was so welcoming in the gift shop. Russ gave us the most delightful tour in the mansion. He is so knowledgeable and engaging! The views were incredible and we so enjoyed our visit. Will be back!

Yelp
What a neat little piece of history!! Finally got to check out this beauty today. I've seen they have a lot of different events up here, to include an upcoming candle light Christmas nights. Today we witnessed them preparing for someone's wedding. Beautiful lookout view from the bluff. We went through the mansion and the historical village. They had a few historical actors to include a blacksmith, which was neat. They have an adorable gift shop too.

Yelp
Great spot for kids to walk around and see the animals. Lots of field trips come threw but it never feels crowded. Gift shop is also beautiful.

Yelp
*Great scenic views *Much more than just a "bunch of old buildings" *Engaging docents * Family friendly outdoor walk through the village *Challenging hikes available for nature enthusiasts. While staying in nearby Fayetteville TN, we made the quick drive to Huntsville to see what we could see. And what could we NOT see from Burritt on the Mountain? Beautiful view from the mountaintop, surrounded by a look back in time at the Burritt house and adjacent historical village and a look inward (and upward) at the reflection point at the foot of a huge cross. There is also a lovely events venue on property and a sweet little gift shop with lots of fun finds. This is a gem atop the mountain and very worth a leisurely couple of hours for a stroll and picnic lunch on a beautiful spring day.

Yelp
There are no words to describe The Burritt, the beauty, the presence, the view. We went for the first time couple of months ago and went back Saturday to show our girls what an amazing experience it's to visit The Burritt. Take the time and enjoy the view, the people, and be part of the most spectacular sunset in Huntsville

Yelp
What a great find! We had so much fun. A friend from Phoenix was in the area. I drove down from Middle TN. We met and headed here, met some friends of his and had a great time. For background, I searched things to do in Huntsville. While I have been there before, the extent of my visits were the Rocket Center and the arts museum. Missed this gem until now. I did no more than tell my friend and his wife about it among a list of a dozen things to do. They picked it, and on a blind trip, we went. I have to admit, it sounded a bit too romantic. We went for the Cocktails at the View, an after (museum) hours. It sounded like a snuggle with your sweetie, have a glass of wine and look out at the pretty sunset. Well, yes, it was that, but better. The crowd was a bit mixed. Yes, there were romantic couples, but there were also mixed groups of varied ages. One larger group caught my attention as they were celebrating a birthday. Our group of five did not know if we were going to have a drink and move on to dinner, or just stay and snack. We stayed for the entire 3 hours they were serving. Go there.

Yelp
Must go places in Huntsville Alabama. Great view, they have some drinks ( wine, beer, cocktails) cheese, ham, fruit. Very friendly, live music, you can take amazing sunset photos, bring your ice bucket. Big parking lot.

Yelp
So I've been here a couple times, but have done a formal tour once. I would say it's definitely worth taking a tour. While the tour of the mansion was somewhat tedious, there is a ton to look at on the grounds and it's extremely beautiful there. We went on a fall morning and the mist was stunning. There is also a small hiking trail on the property.

Yelp
I recently toured this museum with family members who grew up in Huntsville and remembered the mansion before it became part of this historic park. It was so fun to learn more about the Burritt and Johnson families and their part of Alabama history. The front desk guide at the house was full of interesting facts about the house, and told us to look closer at specific exhibits (check out the artist who painted on cobwebs!). If you have time, just below the museum, there are mountain trails. These are very scenic and have cool rock formations, and will lead you to the giant white cross that overlooks Huntsville. Definitely worth your time if you have a free afternoon in Huntsville. Bonus tip: if you have time, check out Maple Hill Cemetery - the Burritt mausoleum is located there, among lots of other historic graves (some go back to the early 1800s).

Yelp
A nice museum at the top of Monte Sano (mountain of health) mountain. A mix of new and old building provide two hundred year old history and modern day event facilities. A short drive up the mountain and you feel the cooler air and breeze. You can watch the large birds glide in the up-streams from the mountain side. Burritt Museum provides something for all age groups. This is a little hidden gem on top of the mountain.

Yelp
I've been to Burritt many a time and we've always had a great visit. It's a very beautiful place. The place is well kept and the views of Huntsville are stunning. That was until we attended the Mardi Gras party that Burritt hosted on Feb. 22nd for $90.00. I'll be polite and say that it was Terrible, Terrible, Terrible. The food was hideous and I mean hideous. The band was way to LOUD. They were serving you all the red/white wine that you could drink (which wasn't a "specialty wine" as stated but a really cheap wine) but at the beginning the volunteers didn't tell us that if you didn't want wine you could have all the beer that you wanted and they had a choice of two different beers. However, once the wine was poured you could only have wine or vice versa with the beer. The volunteer were not informed very well. The announcement on their website was false advertising: It was advertised that there would be an "open bar available for additional cocktails, beer and Hurricane specials". Nothing mentioned about additional cost for a any of those three. I asked how much for a cocktail and I was told that would be $8.00 but when I received my receipt via email I was charged $10.00. I would give Burritt "no stars" but we were with friends and we were having a good time with them. That meal and the false advertising were the worst that I've dealt with in a long time. I was thoroughly discussed in Burritt that night. I'll do my homework next time before I go. https://burrittonthemountain.com/event/mardi-gras-dinner-2023/

Yelp
An enjoyable tour, and an insight to life in the past. The main house is one of the great period houses, and the staff tour is exceptional. The original owner/builder/designer must have been one unique dude. The Mountain View is the best.

Yelp
What an awesome historical place to check out of you make the time. The drive up is scenic and pretty especially since I'm from California. I loved the living history docents and all the readers that were available. Everything is so period and kept in great shape, a field trip destination for sure. The mansion is beautiful and quirky with breath taking views of the city below.

Yelp
This place has an incredible story. We enjoyed the tour of the house and Paul made the tour of the grounds even better with his vast knowledge of the subject. Thumbs up to your entire group.

Yelp
My wife and I went to Huntsville recently to meet some friends and wanted to do something else before they arrived. We found Burritt on the Mountain. What a pleasant and interesting place to visit. The day we went there was a gentle breeze blowing that made it cool and delightful while we roamed the grounds. The view overlooking the city was so picturesque. There were several innovations that Mr. Burritt designed for his mansion that were intriguing. The tour through the mansion itself and learning of all the setbacks Mr. Burritt encountered - from his first house burning on the day he was to move in, to his first wife dying at age 24, and so on - was only half the story. Wandering through the Historic Park and learning how folks lived and farmed in the area in the years before Mr. Burritt moved there was also fascinating. When he died, he had donated his mansion to the city as the first museum in Huntsville. It was interesting to see how these two different time periods had been combined, but it added to the overall experience. The mansion and the Historic Park appeared to have been combined for educational purposes. This provided a more rounded knowledge of the surrounding area since the Historic buildings were actually moved to the site after Mr. Burritt had passed on. Basically, it is an enjoyable place to visit to learn about the history of this area. It's worth checking out if you're coming to Huntsville.

Yelp
The hubby and I found this place by accident. We were hiking at Monte Sano and I noticed that there were some roads that lead to the top of a nearby mountain that you could hike to on trails from Monte Sano. Being tired at the time, I suggested we drive there instead of hike. What we found at the top of the mountain was Burritt Museum. Evidently there's a (now) deceased doc that practiced herbal medicine and he built a house on top of the mountain. He insulated the walls with hay and built the house in an X-shape to make the most use of the natural sunlight available. The house ended up catching fire and the blaze couldn't be put out because of the hay and the fact that there was no water tower or fire protection in the area. He then rebuilt the house and added a water tower. I'm not doing the story justice here, but it was interesting and you can learn for yourself if you visit. The house itself was pretty cool. The period houses they had on site were awesome. They have houses from the 18 and 1900's that they dismantled and rebuilt on site. Those have period furniture and accessories so you can see how people used to live. They even have an outhouse! (Not sure why I am excited about that? Because you never see them!) There are farm animals and an onsite garden as well, which are equally neat. There was a wedding in preparation, which looked very beautiful as there is a spot at the gazebo where you can see downtown Huntsville. I recommend a visit!!!

Yelp
This is definitely worth the trip and I would run not walk to see this place if you're visiting the area. The tour guides and docents are very knowledgeable and educated and informative about their topics as well as being dressed in period costume. They're also very friendly affable and entertaining. Be sure not to miss me Packard car in the garage outside the mansion after your tour of the Mansion which is the best part.

Yelp
I have lots of fond memories of the Burritt from my childhood - mostly of the amazing views. Lucky for me, one of my best childhood friends even had her wedding here a few years ago, so I got to revisit and relive some of those memories. The Burritt continues to grow and expand. It's now got quite the collection of cabins and side buildings that depict what life was like in the valley and surrounding hills in the early days of Huntsville history. The Burritt also host plenty of historic festivals and special exhibits throughout the year. One of the best memories associated with the Burritt didn't even take place there. I was touring Chester Cathedral in Chester, England, with my church youth choir. The tour guide showed us a small painting of the Madonna and Child and asked us to guess what the painting was painted on. He then explained the painstaking process of combining spider webs into a canvas, saying that it was one of a very few number of such paintings in the world. My senior English teacher then proceeded to tell him that the Burritt Museum had the world's largest collection of spider web paintings - with something like 8 or 9 of them. I can't remember having seen the spider web paintings at the Burritt, so I can't say whether or not that's true, but it made for a humbled tour guide. If you're a history buff and you have a free afternoon in Huntsville, make the drive up the mountain.

Yelp
Excellent place to visit for a great history of the 1800s. Went on a homeschool field trip and ended up staying for a self-guided tour. Kiddos loved it. It was our first time to visit. Will definitely be back and will be getting a membership. Friendly staff and helpful when needed.

Yelp
Wonderful family friendly venue with educational value!
