After eating so much fried food during my trip, I decided to switch it up & see what type of Vietnamese food was around. Banh Mi Boys caught my attention with their 4 star rating and colorful pictures.
Located on the corner of Magazine St & Toledano St, this is their second location and it is surrounded by other eateries and boutiques. They have outdoor bench seating and when driving by, you can't miss them - they have a giant "Greetings from Magazine" mural right in front! Inside, there is more colorful murals and seating with a nice AC system. I love the vibe inside, as well the murals that showcase the beautiful art of NOLA. Parking here is metered and can be challenging during prime time.
BMB offers your typical Asian cuisine like spring rolls, egg rolls, grilled pork, usual banh mi's, etc. but they also offer banh mi's and fries with a twist. If my bf wasn't asleep at home still from jetlag, we could've tried so much more :')
I got the Bang Bang Shrimp banh mi and Cajun Crack Fries. The Bang Bang Shrimp is fried gulf shrimp tossed in a sweet Thai chili glaze - just like other shrimps in NOLA, they are PLUMP! When you bit into the banh mi, the bang bang shrimp banh mi was sweet, with the crunchiness of the toasted bread and veggie toppings inside.
The Cajun Crack Fries were crispy fries topped with fried chicken skin, applewood smoked bacon, a drizzle of ranch, and topped with a flamin' hot crackling crumble and green onions. It was savory, crunchy, and tasty. The ranch wasn't too noticeable but definitely gave it the umph it needed. I almost thought it was some sort of aioli sauce. Initially my bf thought the flamin' hot crumbles were salmon roe, but I think they're just hot cheetos crumbs. Interesting twist and so good.
Other banh mi's were bulgogi, char siu (chinese bbq pork), chicken katsu, brisket, honey shrimp, garlic butter shrimp and so much more! Will definitely be coming back next to time to try more.
