Yelp
The food was very good. They kept apologizing about the service, but it was July 4th in Boston and still better service than we've had in many, many places. I had a nice variety in my flight. I have often regretted full pours, but I've never regretted a flight. A couple was seated at the end of our table and we were treated to the most wonderful conversation. Making new friends is what it's all about ! A Scottish man and an English lady had lots to share about travel and their life experiences. It was their 2nd day in a row at Democracy Brewing, if that gives you a feel for how comfortable it is there.

Yelp
Had a nice and quick evening at Democracy before a show! Democracy is located perfectly near the Broadway plaza area and it was great. We came in and were seated right away at a cute booth. The menu online did not match the menu in store which was sad. I'm a bit of a picky beer drinker but we came in specifically for a Passionfruit sour on their menu, that they did not have on the updated menu. We both ended up getting the Blood Orange Seltzer and I got the cranberry. The blood orange was good and the cranberry was just alright. I would not say this was like a normal seltzer we are used to. No carbonation and way more of a beer taste. We did drink half of the beers though! (A drink is a drink, right?) Our server was quick and to the point, not very social and friendly but he was precise and fast. We ordered a side of fries and buffalo cauliflower. Both were delicious! I can't believe how fast the food came out, it was outstanding! The bar inside is so cute and cozy! The vibes are HERE!

Yelp
Not too crowded for a Friday night! I came in around 9PM, and the place was still bumpin' with people singing in a drunken harmony to classic piano songs. Can't complain! Beer was delicious, service was quick, and bathrooms were clean!

Yelp
This is a great spot to grab a drink while meeting up with someone or a group of friends while in downtown Boston. During the summer, they have a few tables available for outdoor seating. The staff are kind and welcoming, which includes the servers, hosts, and bartenders. They have a multitude of beers available, as well as a seltzer. I ordered a flight comprised of four different drinks available at the time (they tend to switch up the menu fairly often!): Pura Vida (sour wheat ale), Bicycle Race (grapefruit shandy), Fighting 54th (farmhouse ale - saison), and A Seltzer (peach). I'm not too much of a beer drinker, so the flight felt like the best option for me. While I am normally a seltzer lover, it was not my favorite. Thinking about it, I think it is because it too carbonated. Out of the beers, the Pura Vida was my favorite. I enjoy sours and it had a great flavor. Since I was meeting a friend for drinks, we did not order food, but I was intrigued by the menu. Will have to check it out sometime.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick beer while hanging out in the area. I love that this was a rooftop outdoor venue. We had amazing weather so it was a great time to sit outside and enjoy a cold beer. I walked up to the serving area and ordered, a lager from democracy brewing. It was crisp and had a good flavor.

Yelp
Came here to watch the last quarter of the Celtics v Hornets game, just randomly walked around and passed by this place. Great ambiance with good lighting and TVs showing sports. Plenty of seating, both tables and at the bar. Staff were hospitable. I got the Bramble On which is a sour ale with raspberry, nice light flavor with a fruity aftertaste. Reasonable prices too! $10 for a 12 oz drink. This is a nice brewery to have good conversations and good drinks.

Yelp
The charcuterie board was HUGE and the perfect accompaniment to our samplers of beer! The rest of the food was equally delicious. Highly recommend the smoked wings as they are moist and have that touch of smoke that made everyone at the table want one! The cauliflower IS SPICY, so have your cold beer in hand when eating. Service was prompt and we were checked on several times throughout the meal to ensure everything was good and any additional drinks etc. Beautiful pub seating family style with high ceilings that make it feel open, yet intimate for a family gathering. We had so much fun that I didn't remember to take more photos of the room. Definitely recommend! Be aware though that they can't do separate checks, but they can split the bill evenly across credit cards. But that was the only reason I didn't give them 5 stars.

Yelp
Awesome place! Gray bee, love the historical aspect of the building! Nice menu, great staff

Yelp
Genuinely one of my favorite spots to stop for a drink downtown. I haven't had anything to eat or drink that I didn't like. The beers rotate and while I love all their sours most (currently there's a dragon fruit one) the others are also very good. And you can't go wrong with a flight. For food here's my off the dome rundown. They do taco specials sometimes that always change and are 2/$10. They are delicious and if you see the little flyer you HAVE to try. The Mac and cheese is also very good. The mussels and clams were to DIE for. The bao isn't my favorite but that was because it had a lot of hipstery micro greens do just not for me but still tasted good! The bags of popcorn hit the spot just right if you only want q snack The bartenders are all super friendly and so lovely. And the music taste that is always playing (think 2008 punk rock) is perfect.

Yelp
We came in here before seeing Moulin Rouge around the corner and we're so glad we did! Neither of us had been here before and we had time to kill before the show and took a whim and just walked in not knowing really anything about it here. We immediately got seated and our server was super nice and attentive to us. The inside is really interesting. The decor sort've reminds me of medieval times or something? But in the coolest way possible. There's large communal-type tables in the middle, in addition to the bar seats and high tops along the edge. We were seated at one of the two person high top tables along the edge and it was great. We only came here for drinks so I can't attest for the food but the drink menu mainly has IPAs and sours so as someone who doesn't personally drink either, I ordered the hard seltzer which came in a tall glass. I think it would've been better had it been served in a can and it had a unique tart taste to it.

Katelyn P.

Yelp
A really solid option in DTX! Their set up lends itself really well to large groups, and they have additional space in the back which is a little more removed and quieter. We've always been able to walk in with a pretty big party no problem (but that's usually before rush hour). Service is fast and friendly, but the food is kind of hit or miss. Don't bother with the popcorn or other small snacks, but DEFINITELY go for the sweet chili bao buns! They have a good variety of beers (and other drinks!) to choose from, including a few mocktails for the non-drinkers. The vibes are great and you don't feel rushed at all. Highly recommend giving this place a shot if you're in the area!

Jim C.

Yelp
Vegan tacos were delicious. Beer too - I had a flight. The workers pint, and the fade to black were my favorites.

Katie E.

Yelp
This is one of the few Boston breweries I hadn't tried yet, and I'm excited that I can finally cross it off of my list! I'm not sure it beats some of my other favorite great craft beer spots in the area, but there are definitely some good options on the menu. I was also pleasantly surprised by how good the food was, and it's just an all around fun spot to grab a drink. Both of their hazy NE IPAs (Tiny Days and Rabble Rouser) were really good, though they tasted almost identical. Rabble Rouser is a collab with Somerville's Remnant Brewing, which is one of my favorite spots, so I loved seeing that on the menu. I also tried the Bicycle Race grapefruit pale ale, which was a bit underwhelming but not bad. They were sold out of their Hidalgo sour, but I've heard good things, so I'll definitely be back to try it soon. Some of our favorites from the food menu included: Beer Steemed Mussels, House Smoked Wings, Spicy Fried Cauliflower, and Birria Quesitacos. We sampled a lot with a big group and the only thing I wouldn't recommend is the Flatbread, it was just a little boring compared to everything else. My only complaint from the experience: I visited in the evening on a Thursday, and luckily a few people got there early to snag a table--it was absolutely packed with the after work crowd from all the offices nearby. We sat near the back, and there was a private party spilling out of the private room next to us, which put a bit of a damper on things. The area was so over crowded and people were surrounding our table so closely that people on the end of the table were feeling pretty claustrophobic. All in all, it's a really cool spot, and the bar is massive, so it's a nice spot for a drink and a bite. Just make sure you're ready to brave the weekday crowds :) I'll definitely visit again when I'm downtown.

Tricia B.

Yelp
Ok, this is one of the best breweries I've ever visited. The beer was REALLY good, the food was exceptional and the vibe was super friendly, warm and inviting. Probably the best Mac n cheese I've ever tasted! The staff was super friendly and offered some great recommendations for other places to visit. For me, this is a must visit anytime I'm in Boston!

Dan D.

Yelp
My friends and I enjoyed decent bar food and a quiet ambiance when we stopped by Democracy. It was noon on a Saturday, right after opening, and two other parties quickly walked in behind us. Two of our party took the fish and chips, served as a single filet (?!) on top of some really short and broken fries. For me, it was certainly fresh and cooked just right, not over. That said, the fish could've been seasoned more, and the fries collected oil from the fish, which would've tasted great had the fish had more flavor. The other member of our party tried the miso kale salad, which she proclaimed to be good, but slightly salty. I wouldn't mind coming here again as a stop on the way to the ballet, but I wouldn't make this place the focal point of a day or night out.

Kristine A.

Yelp
My friend being a local brew head suggested we come here so I said sure why not. Well that was a mistake. I knew they offered a decent menu w/ veg*n options but not the case anymore. There were like only a few veg*n options to choose from which I had to make vegan as well as find out about the spice level. Apparently BOTH were spicy one less so than the other according to the bartender. He had to go to the kitchen to find out & he had it wrong. When I specifically asked him about making the dish w/out peppers & spicy, he said sure. Well of course I take one bite out of the sandwich & I nearly fell off my chair. Tears were coming out of my eyes & my mouth was on fire! I couldn't believe it. Exactly what I asked for it not be, it was, that was actually ridiculous. Of course I couldn't drink water or dairy so I had to suffer by drinking a soda. I mean seriously? WTF!? How do you screw this up? Thankfully I am not allergic but definitely have issues w/ spicy stuff. Unbelievable. Never going back after that.

Marissa E.

Yelp
Very cute brewery with frozen cocktail options! Good diverse beer selection, something for everyone. I enjoyed the watermelon Kolsch. Great area to people watch as it looks right over Quincy Market. Diverse seating options. I didn't see food options. Bathroom options are port-a-potties. Not a great place if weather is poor, but amazing for a great summer day.

Miranda G.

Yelp
All the food was very flavorful, except for the flatbread which didn't have much flavor and was a bit hard to eat. The fish tacos were my favorite! The service was great but a bit confusing since we had multiple servers coming to our table for the same things.

Kim Y.

Yelp
We were across the street at another brewery and decided to take a walk and glad we did! Staff was helpful in recommending beer for us and the atmosphere was relaxing. Great outdoor space with games for adults and kids.

Mike S.

Yelp
Came into Democracy Brewing after another day in Boston and this time we were exploring downtown and after a long day of walking beers were very much needed. We were quickly seated and after looking over the menu I knew what beer I was going with, the Fighting 54th. I believe this beer was a wheat and it was so good. For sure one of the best wheaters I have had. I of course had to have another too. For my entrée I went with the Short Rib Sandwich. I mean how could I not get it with my love for Short Rib and it comes with a side of Au Jus so it's basically a Short Rib French Dip. That's 2 of my favorite foods in one. I of course also went with Fries for my side. Within about 10 minutes our food came out. I will say my sandwich was good but it could have been better. One half of the roll had basically become mush so it became a folk and knife sandwich pretty quickly. I will say their was plenty of Short Rib on it plus it ever very tender and the flavors were there. The fries were also very good. Clearly hand cut fries and they were fried perfectly so they had great crisp. Democracy Brewing is for sure a place to come into for a few beers and some food.

Elise H.

Yelp
Came in on a weekday afternoon to hide from the rain. The beer was awesome! We also got a delicious side of fries that were cooked PERFECTLY. Very large space with lots of seating!

J S.

Yelp
I won't ever return. The good: Nice staff, pretty quick service, some of the food was tasty. The bad: Small portion size (especially for the price). The ribs were tasty but there were only 4 included in a $20 mea. The Cajun fries were tasty but soggy, had they been crispy they'd have been amazing. The few greens were cooked well and tasty. The fish itself was quality but again just one average size piece for $20, and the Clayton it was so thick and not crispy and tasteless. The regular fries with the fish had a large portion but again not crispy. And the coleslaw was tasteless.

Mo C.

Yelp
Had an awesome time enjoying some tacos & beer at the bar and watching a comedy show in the back room of Democracy Brewing! Beers here are great. Classic, clean, cold and tasty. The Quesabirria Tacos are good. We are a bit spoiled with stellar Quesabirria in Denver. These were not the most amazing tacos, but they were perfectly serviceable. If you're going to an event/show in the back room, here is what you need to know! They do not have a separate bar in there, you'll need to leave the show and go out to the bar area to get more drinks/food. There is no stage, performers/speakers will be at floor level, keep this in mind if you are a short person. The seating is long tables, front to back of the room. So, there will be a table to put your beer/food on, but the tables are not private for your party, you'll be sharing them with new friends.

Aliya D.

Yelp
The food was delicious! Brought family from out of town here and they enjoyed the decor, food and overall vibes. Despite all of this, they brought out the complete wrong dish for one of the meals and were a bit slow to bring over sauces and to go boxes. Would still likely go back!

Nicki L.

Yelp
The food here was excellent! I had a spring salad - tomato, orange, spring mix, feta, falafel cubes, chicken, strawberry vinaigrette. I love a good sweet salad. It was one of the freshest I've had in a long time. The falafel cubes were a unique touch - they tasted delicious. My friend had the burger and he said it was bomb! We both got the Suffragette which was light and fresh - reminiscent of a Blue Moon. The ambiance here was casual and it almost felt like you were at a European beer hall. The service was extremely fast. Highly recommend!

B L.

Yelp
Decided to sit at the bar to try out a brewery from out of town. The service was great. Very attentive. The night there they had an Irish quartet playing music for the customers which was kinda cool for background noise. Although crowded the place wasn't overall that noisy. Ordered some fries to snack on while sitting there and they were excellent. Would definitely recommend for people to try. A good assortment of different beers to try.

George H.

Yelp
My daughter and I stopped into Democracy Brewing for what we thought was going to be a light lunch hahaha. I had a saison and stout and we shared the spicy buffalo cauliflower and the sweet chili bao buns. Both were excellent. I had never had buffalo cauliflower before but I certainly will have it again... hopefully it will be as good as the one at Democracy. The bao was soft and sweet with crispy chicken, sweet chili sauce, sprouts, and a seasoned mayo. Super good place that I highly recommend.

Samantha C.

Yelp
First brewery we stopped into on our trip to Boston! The atmosphere is really cool and everything we ordered was great. The beer flights were great. We ordered the Bao and it was so delicious--it did have a lot of micro greens in it, which my boyfriend wasn't a fans of, but to each their own. Their taco deals were a great price and the three I tried were so tasty. Bf had the short rib sandwich which was amazing! The service was attentive when they needed to be, didn't feel rushed at all.

John L.

Yelp
Phenomenal staff. Not surprising. It's a worker-owned cooperative. Loved the imperial stout and would have had the wit beer had I not been jonesing for a stout. Knowledgeable folks. Great space. We'll be back.

Mark T.

Yelp
Maybe not a go-to place for poutine, but definitely a great go-to for a pint (or two). The beers are excellent, as are the value and the service. The space is open and well-lit; it feels like an old-school brew hall with LED light bulbs. The vibe corresponds - people get together with friends to enjoy some beers, nothing too wild. Their beer menu is very well thought out. Beers are organized based on three categories: 1. Light/Wheat 2. Hoppy 3. Malty Dark The menu also describes each beer, so you know what you're getting. I love the names too! They're named after something/someone in Boston's history and provide the story behind the name. Being someone who enjoys dark beer and variety, I tried the 1916 Rising, Nicola Sacco, Grand Heckler, and the Vanzetti as a wild card. All were tasty and distinct, with the Vanzetti coming out of left-field as a favorite of the four. Then there are the prices, which are surprisingly low for a location in downtown Boston. A flight (20 oz total) is only $12, and a "Worker's Pint" is only five bucks! The bar service was friendly and speedy. Food took a little longer to come out, but since the kitchen was on the cusp of closing, I won't hold this against them. Speaking of food: the poutine was more like cheesy fries than authentic poutine. Since I added Birria to the top, I suppose this turns them into loaded cheesy fries! The quality was okay, nothing to write home about, but at the same time, no specific complaints.

Joel P.

Yelp
I saw this place while driving around Downtown Crossing and I was excited to stop and grab a beer. I was disappointed with a couple things: they close at 10 PM on a Friday night, second, they have a very limited selection of beers. The place was had a decent size for a brewery, but I can tell that the employees were eager to go home so I can't really comment about the service. Hope I can make it back another day earlier so I can really gauge what this place is all about.

Amanda F.

Yelp
I am only giving this place a 3, just for the fact it was a quick stop, and I had 1 drink, and did not have anything to eat, so I don't feel I could give it anymore. I would though, and will definitely stop back here again when Im in the area, and probably have something to eat. I saw the food coming out of the kitchen, and it looked great. Very clean place, and great service. Like I said, Im only giving it a 3 because I did not eat here, and was only here for a half hour. I had a Blueberry Seltzer, and it was very good. They give you a glass of ice water as soon as you sit down. I think thats always a nice gesture. I do recommend this place.

Aakanksha S.

Yelp
Swung by here for a casual dinner with some friends and I quite liked the vibe. There's good lighting, good service, and it's not too loud to hold conversation. The menu has all sorts of surprisingly interesting offerings for a brewery, and everyone else at my table seemed fairly pleased with their food. I wasn't a huge fan of the amount of extremely sweet sauce on my buns, but otherwise they were good. It's a little expensive, but given that it's in downtown next to the Common, honestly a bargain.

Bosco H.

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick snack and pint. Ordered the House Smoked Wings (14) and a Worker's Pint (5.5). Wings were very average, and pricy but the pint was really good. Just ok here, nothing special.

Steve A.

Yelp
Another good brewery in Boston. Democracy is more than just beer, but also food. It has a pretty nice setup in the middle of downtown and seems like a happening place. Busy but they do a good job keeping up with orders and the wait is never very long. There's quite a few beers on tap, and while you're in here try the food too. It seems like a pretty popular brewery. It's always busy, which is a very good sign. There's often a wait for tables. Getting a seat at the bar is easier. Smaller groups have better luck when it's later. Bigger groups have to wait especially when it's in the evening. The wait usually isn't extremely long though. I have tried several of the beers. Quite a good amount of variety in the styles and they're not all IPAs like at some of the places around here. There's hoppy and some are sweet. I like the Treppenwitz, which is a Helles lager. It's $8 for a pint. This is kind of a lot for a beer but it's good though. It's described as bready and crisp. This is also called a German malt. I got us the Falafel Wrap to eat. It's $15 for a lot of food. This is a big wrap topped with lettuce, onions, and tomatoes. It comes with a side of sweet potato fries. This is enough food for a couple people. High prices are the only bad thing about it. It does have big portions. This is enough for a couple meals so you can make up the cost that way.

Jayme Rae B.

Yelp
Great service, beer and food. All the beers we were most interested were kicked but over all it was a great experience. The service was quick and food was better than I expected (short rib sandwich and Mac & cheese).

Kristine B.

Yelp
Fun, chill vibe and good brew! Stopped in before a dinner date and enjoyed the beer. The staff were really nice and friendly.

Sarah C.

Yelp
I had the Bicycle Race beer and it was good! I'm more into ciders then beer, so the server helped me pick the next best option. The overall experience was good! There was even live music from Mel and his singing group. They passed out song books to join along. The one not so great thing is the server messed up our tab so we found out later in the night that we got overcharged.

Lucas W.

Yelp
We came in late at night and in retrospect the food looked amazing so I really wish we'd come here for dinner. Total mistake. Love the vibe in here, a great rendition of a German beer hall. The beer was good but nothing blew me away: Worker's Pint - love that it's a reasonably priced beer and made to be as such, but it's still a good blonde ale. Simple, straightforward, no frills, just solid. Fighting 54th - this was a little hoppier and yeastier than I prefer so it left a little bit of an aftertaste that I wasn't a huge fan of. Attucks - this was a roasty nitro stout that was pretty good. Lots of roasty chocolate Treppenwitz - Kinda like the worker's pint, a good rendition of a helles lager, no frills, hint of sweetness, smooth and solid. I'd come back definitely.

Rylee F.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday afternoon for a drink. We didn't order any food. We ordered flights (4 beers each). The beer was good but nothing too special. Our service was good and the atmosphere was very cool. It had an old world vibe to it and it was very cozy. I'll be back for a pint and to try the food!

Brewster M.

Yelp
Hey, man! Picture this: we're cruisin' through the streets of Boston when we stumble upon this rad brewery. We're like, "Dude, we gotta check this place out!" So we roll in, and it's like the opening credits just started. We're the first customers of the day, man! But here's the kicker: the bar girl is like a beer goddess, dude. She's got knowledge flowing through her veins, with over 10,000 unique Untappd check-ins. She's a craft beer rock star, no doubt about it. We're thinking, "Whoa, this lady knows her hops!" The service? Fear, man. The bartender was on it like a ninja with a tray. She's got recommendations, suggestions, and pours those brews like a pro. We're having a blast just chattin' and sippin', thanks to our beer-savvy superstar behind the bar. Now, the beer itself? Very good, my friend. All the IPAs were hittin' the spot, but we were hopin' for that mind-blowing, eye-popping experience, you know? They were all rockin' in their own way, but none reached that exceptional level. Still, we're enjoying ourselves, grooving to the brews, and having a blast thanks to our beer guide. So there you have it, man. This brewery adventure in Boston was like a groovy trip, with a bar girl who could teach a masterclass in craft beer. The service was solid, the beer was tasty, and we left with smiles on our faces. Keep on rockin' and sippin', my amigo!

Chris C.

Yelp
Love the space Food was def middling and under cooked - I think the oil wasn't hot brought as the fries were soggy, and -"" both types of wings we share were flabby and not crisp Beer was not to my liking either - a personal preference but nothing I tasted was great (tried some of my friends flight) Service was friendly and efficient but not rushed (or too slow) the space is really nicely done - I just wish I liked thr food and drink better.

Steve S.

Yelp
As I love finding different craft breweries to try out, I stumbled across this place while visiting Boston. It had good reviews, so I decided to stop inside to try some beers out, that they had to offer. I started out with a beer flight, and picked 4 different brews that looked good. I really enjoyed most of my selections that I tried. The staff and waiter we had was nice, in answering all my questions and recommending which ones he felt were the best ones to try. I then tried a large glass of a double IPA, that they had, and I think this was my favorite beer of the visit. I usually do love a good dipa, and this place did not disappoint with their offerings. The seating section was also spacious and setup well. Overall this was a nice spot and I had a good time visiting. I would recommend this place to friends.

Kolee S.

Yelp
It was a great place to meet friends who we haven't seen after a very long time. There were a lot of options to drink and eat, with prices as expected for being in the city. We ordered wings, flatbreads, and spicy cauliflower - all of which were delicious and disappeared quickly! A few of us had a flight so we could try a variety of options. You really can't go wrong, my favorite was Consummate Rioter but my friends preferred Lewis Hayden. One of the best reasons this place got 4 stars is that there was no rush to turn over the table. we were there for hours hanging out , drinking (even just water toward the end) and having a great time!

Laura I.

Yelp
Asked about a reservation over the phone since we were staying next door. Stephanie said, even though they didn't accept reservation she assured me she would have a table for us at 8PM on a Friday night. When we arrived I told gentleman at host stand, I called and Stephanie had reserved a table. He sat us at a reserved table immediately. Later Stephanie came over and introduced herself. We Thanked her. Our service was though, friendly, and fast. Food was delicious Chicken boa buns and Mango chili cauliflower were outstanding. Upon leaving Stephanie said goodbye to us. We will definitely come back next time visiting Boston.

Ben W.

Yelp
Food was very good. Beer selection was not as diverse as I would have hoped for but no complaints about the quality of the beer. Service was good not great. Food came out quickly but there was minimal staff as it was a slow night so hard to get someone's attention. Would recommend and go back.

Melissa S.

Yelp
Great beer, the 1916 Rising (Irish stout)is malty and rich. delicious french fries and burgers... do yourself a favor and order the tacos birra, the sauce is scrumptious.

Hashid H.

Yelp
I ordered the ribs and the buffalo wings. I loved both of them. A shit ton of ribs and fries for 20$ is a great deal for me. Wings were cooked well and very flavorful. Service was great. Everything was clean. I had a ton of leftovers to give away at the end of it. I just wish there were more T.V.s as there was only one when I went there.

Daniel C.

Yelp
Unusually good brewpub, they serve their own beers exclusively, I had one of their malty ales which was excellent. And they serve great pub food, I especially like that they have vegetarian options such as a very spicy cauliflower dish. Really engaged staff, probably because they all become part-owners after working their for a year. Pleasant and airy space. Nice to have this in my neighborhood!
