Yelp
Everything was great, nice ambiance, good for any group size. Recommended dishes: Kimchi Creamy Shrimp, Bulgogi Buns, Dumplings

Yelp
Nice restaurant that's not overrun and you can get a table. My highlights were the fried asparagus and the popcorn chicken. Fun fact: When you reserve a table ahead of time they let you spin a wheel and you get one item for free, like a glass of wine.

Yelp
Good location, large space with bbq tables upstairs. Our party of 5 spun the wheel and got a free order of truffle fries! Thanks! Cute way to welcome people in! We sat upstairs and ordered drinks. They took a while. The service was ok- she was trying but they were busy. We were there for the food. Which was pretty great. We did a beef and a pork assorted combo. The kalbi was the favorite however all cuts were tasty and easy to cook. They serve it correctly with ssamyang and lettuce leaves. The corn cheese was delish and the egg souffle was solid. Banchans were nice. Will be back and highly recommend for a large group ready to start a fun night out with Soju!

Yelp
The food is always so good. With great friendly service. All in a hipster cool vibe. I definitely recommend coming here for lunch and the Suchi burrito ($28) ! Follow me for more incredible food experiences insta : @noodlesoupr

Yelp
Having tried their other branch on 35th street before, I wanted to come back to this location to try out some other items on their menu. We ordered the tteok & cheese and Fisherman's soup. Tteok & cheese (4/5): great flavor and the tteok was nicely chewy. It also comes with a few slices of bread that you can use to dip into the cheese afterwards. Fisherman's soup (5/5): features a variety of seafood simmered in beef broth with thin cut noodles. Flavor is on point and there's a good amount of seafood. There's plenty of seating inside, but I'd still recommend making a reservation if you are planning on coming here on busy nights as the place can get filled quickly.

Yelp
Unbelievable deal for lunch! I got the sushi lunch special- it came with 5 open faced rolls, tempura, broth, and a salad. Everything was delicious and I am still in awe of how much good food you can get for only $25! Will definitely be back! Service was quick and attentive. Definitely recommend

Yelp
Super cute k bbq place in union square. Went during the holidays and it was completely decked out with holiday decor. If you book a reservation in advance, they let you spin a wheel to win a prize. I absolutely loved the japchae and seasonal drinks. Would go back again.

Yelp
I'd been to Barn Joo a few times before and in different locations. They have solid food and drinks, but service was slow and orders were wrong this time for my birthday reservation. I chose them because they can accommodate large groups. I had 11 people. The servers were nice, but once we got our first round of food and drinks, we didn't see them for a long time. We ordered more and had to grab them to check on it. My friends observed they may have been understaffed on this Friday night. We got soup without bowls. My friends asked for them and never got them. Also I brought my own cake and cut it myself for the group of 11. They added $25. This seems like a ridiculous number to just get the plates and utensils passed to me. Some positives - the food and drinks were good. They had some of promos, like giving a free shot if you follow their new IG.

Yelp
A lively (and surprisingly large) spot tucked right into Union Square area -- they serve up great Korean bar food. Most things are either fried or cheesy, so would make note if that's not what you're in the mood for. The Tofu and Mac and Cheese were delicious, Seafood Udon was alright. Pro tip: make a reservation so you can spin the wheel for a prize. We won a free beer!
google avatar

Jeny K.

Yelp
Food was mediocre. I been there a couple years back and wanted to give this spot another try but same overall opinion. We tried the army stew, bulgogi rice cake, popcorn chicken, & kimchi udon. Everything but the udon was mid. The food didn't look nor tasted that appealing. Service was slow and took us ~20mins to get our check.

Yelp
Big bar/restaurant in the heart of Union Square. It's a good place to meet people for drinks and snacks - Happy Hour is from 4-7 I believe. Lunch deals are good value, the portions are huge. They have two sorts - one that's more Americanized with burgers, fried chicken sandwiches, etc, and the other that's more of a Korean lunch set. The food is excellent but less authentic than in Korea Town and I think it's a good introduction to the flavors of Korean cuisine. The servers are friendly, and the decor is nice. However, they still have plexiglass dividers between tables that they installed post-pandemic, which I don't mind, but it is a bit odd. It is a good spot if you find yourself in Union Square, great for larger groups and there's also a Korean BBQ setup upstairs which I haven't tried yet.

Yelp
I had just finished attending a conference and was finally free to hang out with one of my best friends who lives in the city. She recommended this place for the good vibes and the good drinks. Our bartender recommended I get the Rose Queen because I asked for something sweet. I loved that the rosemary was torched and still lit when it was served to me. I come from a family of people who love rosemary. My drink was delicious and it was a nice start to great evening.

Yelp
Everything was better than anticipated! Hot & Spicy Chicken Wings- Perfectly crispy texture, sweet, and not too spicy. Bulgogi Tacos- These were so delicious, we ended up ordering another! Crispy Fish Steamed Buns- Pretty good. Fries- We asked for regular fries instead of truffle. They were nice and chunky. Great quality. Homemade Kimchi- Tasty, tangy, and slightly spicy. Homemade Pickles- Sweet and refeshing. Last time, I got the Seafood Paella, which was phenomenal.

Yelp
The Beeline cocktail was surprisingly good for a flower-flavored drink. The lavender taste was very subtle, and the flavor tasted familiar and comforting in a way I couldn't place. I didn't taste the alcohol, and I loved the presentation of the lavender sitting on top of the ice. Although I'm not a big oyster person typically, I liked the variety of different sauces. Without eating dinner, I surprisingly got full off of the shared appetizers. The Popcorn Chicken was addictive. It had a kick, and the peanuts paired perfectly with it. The dish reminded me of those packaged spicy peanut snacks. I just wished the portions were largerp to account for the price. I also tried the Truffle Fries and Tteok & Cheese. The fries were crispy and addictive. The Tteok & Cheese tasted like corn cheese with nibs of al dente rice cake. The staff was very friendly upon being greeted at the front for seating and while we were being served. The location is large with seating available for our group of 5. It was nice having a table farther in the back, away from other groups so we could hear each other talk.

Yelp
We arrived around 4 PM on a Saturday. The place appeared lightly to moderately filled with customers. We almost didn't go in because the music appeared to be too loud from the front entrance. Fortunately, the music was actually at a tolerable level inside. Also, it sounded to be like ranch music which goes well with the "Barn" in Barn Joo. Upon entering we were immediately greeted by staff at the podium and led to a table. From taking our orders, bringing us the food, and then the check, the timing appeared seamless. The staff were also friendly. Out of the dishes I tried, my favorite were the Truffle Fries. I wish they gave me more of the dipping sauces though! The other dishes were well made as well. This is my second time coming to this location. I would continue to come back if I'm ever craving Korean food and in the area.

Yelp
Such a fun dinner spot. The happy hour menu is great and we enjoyed trying different bites including the sushi roll, oysters, bulgogi tacos, and Korean fried chicken wings. Cocktails were on point too. George was an amazing server. When I first arrived, he had me spin the prize wheel because I had a reservation. I won $10 off my check! The restaurant is wheelchair accessible on the first floor (including restroom) and they have lots of fun Halloween decorations up. unfortunately the second floor where the BBQ tables are is not accessible. We opted for the outdoor patio overlooking Union Square, which was buzzing. Only small thing was that I wish they didn't play the music so loud but oh well.

Yelp
$29 sundubu soup with no rice. I've never heard of sundubu served without rice. Sundubu was tasty, but couldn't justify $3 rice on top of $29 soup. Bad form.

Yelp
I visited this restaurant for a family lunch and was thoroughly impressed. The atmosphere and decor were delightful, creating an inviting ambiance. The food was exceptional - bursting with flavor. Their popcorn chicken, in particular, was addictively good - I could happily eat it all day! The drinks were tasty, though the preparation time was longer than expected. While this didn't detract from my overall experience enough to lower my rating, I do prefer sipping on my drink while waiting for the meal, so the delay was slightly disappointing. Despite this minor issue, our overall experience was excellent. We'll definitely return in the future. I've also dined at their midtown location, which offered equally delicious food.

Yelp
Barn Joo was a great experience! It was easy to get a reservation, and the staff was quick and efficient to seat us and have us served. The restaurant was a little loud, but it's a great vibe for a Friday night meal and drinks. The food was all terrific. The tapas were nice sizes for sharing, and the larger mains weren't too big or too small. I am excited to go back!

Yelp
Came here before a concert at Irving Plaza. Large venue, with a unique yet moody interior. The staff were very Friendly, & very helpful. We had Caz & Angel. We had the Small Beef BBQ Combo, which comes with Egg Soufflé (which I didn't like, tasted like vinegary eggs), Corn Cheese (think creamed corn w/cheese), Short Rib, Skirt Steak, Ribeye, & Marinated Short Rib. I was a bit apprehensive at first, as at home in NJ, Korean BBQ places are like Rodizio. So for a far less price, they just keep bringing the meats as long as you want, leaving you with the "meat sweats." Well, this place showed me that it truly can be worth it. While expensive, the QUALITY of the cuts of meat were nothing short of amazing. It's like they only served you the best pieces of the best cuts. Absolutely delicious! Plus their grill style doesn't trap the grease like most do, so they don't have to come change it out, & you and your clothes don't smell of smoke when you're done. I give credit where credit is due, I feel like I got my moneys worth. Also, it is important to point out that it was just enough for two. We were satisfied, but not stuffed. Grades: Egg Soufflé: C- Corn Cheese: B Short Rib: A+ Skirt Steak: A+ Ribeye: A+ Marinated Short Rib: A+

Yelp
Located in the prime union square. This Barn Ho location has a bit more space compared to others in the city. Ordered a bunch of tapas, a few entrees and a seafood paella. The short ribs was amazing a must try. Meanwhile the seafood paella wasn't good at all. Don't expect a paella, it was made with quinoa with some seafood and caviar.

Yelp
Always reliable with availability and it's on seated! Don't miss out on that cash back. I haven't been back in a few years but it's just as I remember it, modern, a bit sexy, and a bit pricey. But it's reliable and good food. We opted for the classic uni bibimbap and the pork belly. Both dishes were exactly what we wanted, a bit of fried rice but not too heavy with some pork belly. The bibimbap could have used a tad more citrus and salt but otherwise very good. The pork belly was spectacular. The fried pork rinds otherwise known as the skin was a nice surprise. Wasn't expecting that bit of fusion. And the pork belly itself - no complaints. We could have used a bit more salad but otherwise this is executed to perfection. We were in and out of there pretty quickly but we enjoyed our time.

Yelp
Super cool place and excellent food & service! Came with a LARGE group and had the best time. We enjoyed drinks, amazing food & plenty of laughter. Our server(s) were so nice, the vibe is chill and energetic, and decor on the rusty/textured side. Awesome location of course. We enjoyed everything!

Yelp
I think Barn Joo is a consistently good place, although I think there are other spots that are better for the price you pay. Nonetheless, solid KBBQ. The meat set comes with different cuts that gives you a nice traversal of the different textures of beef - it's a nice casual experience for anyone craving KBBQ but doesn't have a reservation to Nubiani or the money for COTE. I really like their appetizers though - the batter and crispiness of the Tofu and Fries (fries are fried in a really tasty oil but idk what oil they use) are almost to die for. Ice cream is passable in my opinion. One thing to note, Barn Joo is just fun vibes. When you enter you get to spin a wheel that could net you and the table a free drink or such!

Yelp
The restaurant service was not good and towards the end they were trying to kick us out before we were done eating as the guy came over and flipped over our meat while it was still on the grill and then started passing it around. Other than that time, we barely saw the waiter. Korean restaurants usually have unlimited sides, but this place only had vegetables as extra side. I think the demographic that they are trying to cater to is different than what I prefer. The girl that we got was also dirty in the beginning and we had to ask for another one. Rice costed extra and was also very small portion. This was one of the first restaurants I've been to where the rice was extra and also was not rounded out but instead just hastily scooped

Yelp
Perfect find! Came here for happy hour at 5:50PM (they have HH from 4-6PM) and they were able to accommodate taking our food and drink orders right away to honor the happy hour prices! We had the tofu and potato croquettes and it was absolutely delicious! Great decorations and cozy seating, would recommend coming back. Plus the prices were extremely reasonable- the HH food was about $7-$8 per dish

Yelp
I'm WAY overdue for a review. This is a dependable Union Square spot for drinks - and food. They rock Korean dishes here. I've been coming to Barn Joo for years - before COVID - and have had done primarily table service. Finally came here one afternoon for their happy hour (3-6pm, I believe) and scored a beer for $6 (good for NYC). Shared an order of tacos too. Tasty, and they came out quickly. If you're lucky enough to get here before 6, it's worth it. Friendly service, shout-out to Samsara!

Yelp
Food (4/5): We ordered the Uni Bimbimbap and Seafood Paella. The seafood paella served up to 3 and was $65. The portion probably served 2 actually and had reasonably fresh seafood. The issue I had was that the paella was a bit bland. The Uni Bimbimbap was amazing and I wished we had more of that. Service (4/5): Made a reservation for 3 and so they let us spin the wheel which was nice. They gave us a $10 off promo. Overall the service was solid and no issues. Ambiance (4/5): Very spacious restaurant with tons of seating. The decorations are quite nice and you get a bit of an upscale underground bar type feel.

Yelp
12/28/23: Stopped in on my way home from MD appointment. Honestly not sure if I would return. Upon being seated and given water that was the last of any interaction unless I summoned someone. I always thought waitstaff were appointed to sections and responsibilities were to handle those customers. I waited n waited until I had to flag someone's attention. It was not very busy. Seemed more concerned with large parties and patrons at the bar. Once I finally placed order and received food had to flag down a bus boy to get a knife. Not once did anyone stop by to ask how are things and if I needed anything. Same process trying to retrieve the check and pay. One point thought maybe I should walk out maybe that would get someone's attention. Anyhow food was ok. Found it difficult to tip but I did inspite of it all.

Yelp
Stumbled upon Barn Joo while looking for a place to grab a drink and enjoyed it! The drink menu had many options and left me wanting to try more. The popcorn chicken was delish - definitely recommend! As a date night spot or a place to catch with the girls it was great. The music wasn't too loud but I wish the lights were a bit dimmer. Service was attentive and helpful.
google avatar

Yelp
The waiter was amazing did above and beyond! Excellent service! The drink was really good as well if I had more time would have definitely got a second one. The tuna tartare was delicious (except the bread was not good very hard nd no flavor also I don't think it complimented tuna at all) they were nice enough to give me chips instead which I really appreciated and that tasted way better with the tuna. Overall a really good experience.
google avatar

Tara O.

Yelp
Great spot for Happy Hour deals! Dollar oysters and $12 Serrano margarita are both great. The service is friendly and pretty quick! Ambiance is split with upstairs being Korean BBQ and downstairs more of a bar environment with high tops as well as regular dining tables. Good spot to get small plates!
google avatar

Yelp
Wow, this place has an amazing lunch special that well worth the price for all the food that you get. I would definitely the creamy shrimp udon lunch deal which is 26 dollars. Everyone comes out real fresh and tasty plus their lunch special goes till 4:30pm which is plenty of time for anyone to try it. I have yet to try their Korean bbq which starts at 5pm but I will definitely be trying that to review for that as well. This place is a must visit for all foodies.

Yelp
Came during happy hour which takes place every day and ends at 6pm. Made a reservation online and was allowed to spin a wheel to receive a surprise. I won $10 dollars off my total bill. Great price for oyster shooters. Their selection are East Coast, which I recommend because they are on the sweeter side. Comes with a house vinaigrette and cocktail sauce. Wished the shooters came with horseradish. Bulgogi tacos, buns stuffed with duck, soy garlic chicken wings were ordered off the happy hour menu and all of the small platters were delicious. Pork belly dinner paired with white kimchi and chicharron giving a different spin. It was as the perfect way to end the meal. I would return the menu is unique, ambiance is trendy and service was friendly.
google avatar

Evan L.

Yelp
The atmosphere is lively and fun, and the food is pretty tasty. We ordered from the non-BBQ menu and got Popcorn Chicken, Korean Pancake, NY Bites, and Bulgogi Spicy Rice Cake to share. Would recommend any of those dishes. The prices did seem high compared to other similar Korean restaurants, especially for the NY bites, which was $44 for some pieces of short rib, potatoes, mushrooms, half a lemon, and some seeds and greens. I was satisfied with the portion sizes, though. Service was a bit slow. Our waiter seemed to disappear for long periods of time, and it took us a while to get the check even though we were one of the last tables there. But overall the staff was friendly, and I appreciated getting to spin the wheel of rewards (because we made a reservation), as we won $10 off our meal!
google avatar

Yelp
Came here with a friend for dinner on a weeknight and we were seated immediately without a reservation. The service was suuuuper slow, I don't know if they were understaffed or if we were just sitting in a bad spot but we had to go up to the hostess stand at the end of the meal after waiting like 15 minutes after we already asked our waiter for the check. Overall the food was good. The hibiscus lemonade was delicious, the fried sushi roll we got was also standout, and the japchae was also good. Wouldn't recommend the mushrooms, it was a big portion but there was so much artificial truffle and butter on it that it was just an odd flavor experience. I'd like to come back and try the BBQ or the soups as I think that's where they really shine.
google avatar

Yelp
Yes! Amazing spot for dinner in New York! First of all, make a reservation. Because if you make a reservation, you can spin their emoji wheel and win free stuff which is fantastic!!! What to get: - kimchi fried rice. Stop asking questions. Just get it. It is to die for. - popcorn chicken- delish! With peanuts and a yummy white sauce and a delectable crunch. - Bao buns with bulgogi beef (best I've ever had) - dragon roll (good, standard, fancy roll) - bibimbap with spicy pork (not spicy enough, I had to douse it in sriracha) Drinks were all good, we ordered off of the School Special menu (strawberry something was the best) Dessert: lemon tart and the bourbon bread pudding. Both good, but not exceptional.
google avatar

Sarah Y.

Yelp
Exceptional service and delicious food! The waiters came by our table quite often to ask if we needed anything, and to make sure we were doing all right. The creamy shrimp udon was definitely my favorite dish. Their kimchi was also really good, not bitter like some places. I also got a matcha drink that wasn't on their menu. It was $18 and there was barely any liquid in it (the ice cub was huge and the cup was filled less than half way). Overall great meal but a little pricey.

Yelp
It's been many many years since I was last at Barn Joo, and I was pleased to see that they are still flourishing! We stopped by on a Saturday evening with no reservation (around 7pm) and we were able to get a table. We weren't super hungry so my husband and I shared 2 appetizers and an entree (but then we also shared a dessert so maybe we were hungry after all...?!) Appetizers- get the Crunchy Tofu and Bulgogi Spicy Rice Cake! Both are insanely good- the tofu came with a caramelized kimchi that added another layer of spice and fermented goodness. It was really satisfying to eat. The spicy rice cakes with bulgogi- you know it's going to be good! The vegetables (slice of kabocha, and onions and peppers) added some nice veggie sweetness to this dish. For our entree, we shared the "NY Bites"- it's a platter of kalbi slices, potatoes, sticks of crunchy sweet potato, sautéed mushrooms and vegetables. You can try everything individually or pair them up for different flavors. Very good, we finished the entire plate. For dessert, we got the bourbon bread pudding. I'm not a huge fan of bourbon flavor so we asked if we could get the bourbon sauce on the side, but unfortunately they weren't able to do it. However, the bourbon flavor wasn't that super strong so it was fine- the caramel-y ice cream's flavor was so strong, so I wasn't too bothered by the bourbon. I think this was the best bread pudding I've ever had. Service was attentive!

Yelp
The food here is very delicious and their happy hour prices are decent. Great atmosphere here outdoors and the music is happening. Great service and friendly staff! Don't hesitate to come here! The bulgogi tacos and potato croquettes are very delicious

Yelp
I recently visited Barn Joo in Union Square - the atmosphere was vibrant and energetic, with a cool industrial-chic decor featuring exposed brick walls and warm wood accents. The bar is really nice to look at. Our server made sure to stop by often but I can't say that was very productive. My biggest gripe with Barn Joo is that I simply cannot recommend them anymore with their new prices. They'll run you $25 for spicy dukbokki or $16 for 6 of the smallest wings I have ever had in a Korean restaurant. Is the food good? Yes. But you know what else is good? Choosing among the delicious restaurants just 1 stop away at ktown. I don't think I'll be coming back without a good reason.

Tara L.

Yelp
The food came out fast. The restaurant looked nice and has a theme of the moon. The candle in the bathroom was very fragrant.
google avatar

Alex M.

Yelp
(Overall: 87% | B) - The food is on the pricey side but shows some interesting potential. I like the bar area as well, but fundamentally the service was incredible slow and detracting as a result. (Sashimi Bibimbap: 87.5% | B) - This is an interesting Japanese-Korean fusion dish that is reminiscent of a Chirashi bowl with Korean spices. The flavors are interesting, but I'm not quite convinced the bold flavors mesh well with what was a delicate dish. (Braised Short Ribs: 92.5% | A) - This is truly the definition of a hearty meal. The short ribs were tender and well flavored, though running pricey at $42 per bowl. The ingredients were carefully swlected and go together well though. IG: @amei.eats

Yelp
Came here last night with a group for my birthday and it was a 10/10!! Food was soo good! We got the large beef bbq and a bunch of shared plates, bibimbap, and octopus. The hostess who greeted us were also extremely friendly and helpful! My entire group really loved the meal and I would definitely come back here!
google avatar

Yelp
A must try if you're near one of their three locations. I dined at the Union Square location today. I d the Bulgoggi Burrito and my husband had the Korean Army Stew. Excellent flavor all around. And our cocktails were fire! The atmosphere is sheek and cute. We ate outside for great NYC people watching. Our server was so pleasant and attentive. Can't go wrong with a bite or drink at Barn Joo.
google avatar

Cyrus A.

Yelp
Barn Joo's Union Square location feels more like a traditional restaurant than a KBBQ place. There's still KBBQ on the upper level, but the main level features standard tables, booths, and a looong bar with plenty of seating. The biggest selling point for me is the space itself. For a restaurant right off Union Square, they really make the most of their floor plan. There's always plenty of seating available, both at tables and at the bar. And it's got a modern vibe -- well lit, clean, and really spacious with a high ceiling. The food here has always been good, with lots of elevated bar food and Korean dishes to choose from. Overall, a consistent option for the area, especially if you are looking for something spur of the moment.
google avatar

Yelp
Craving some drinks and Korean food, we made a reservation at Barn Joo. By making the reservation, we were given the chance to spin a wheel and got a free glass of wine, which was a cute welcoming touch. This gastropub does Korean tapas and some tasty drinks. I got myself a Lychee martini (their special that day) and the Rose queen with a little more syrup. It was awesome that they could alter the cocktail to fit your preferences - the sweeter rose queen was definitely more memorable for me personally. We order several tapas to share - crunchy tofu, bulgogi spicy rice cake with cheese (and we altered it to have no beef bc we had a vegetarian in our group), and the Crispy Pork steamed buns were phenomenal. Value wise, it definitely runs on the higher side especially with its Korean tapas concept. If you are looking for a modern chill place for a drink with friends and don't mind splurging a little more, I do recommend Barn Joo. The vibes of the entire place are

Yelp
Such a fun happy hour spot! They have a great selection of snack you can share with the table and the happy hour prices are quite good. It's also a great location right next to Union Square Park. The fries were amazing, as were the croquettes. This is definitely going to be a fixture on the happy hour rotation!
