UnderTow, Platform 18, and 36 Below Are Phoenix Cocktail Bars With a Big Touch of Theater | Bon Appétit

"Hidden in the basement of a coffee shop, this subterranean, nature-themed bar is a lush, digitally enhanced wonderland with wall-to-wall naturescapes, quarterly rotating themes (recently Aquatic Mediterranean), piped-in sounds of waterfalls, and diffused aromas that match each motif. Cocktails are served in dramatic vessels—think a stone chalice shaped like a Greek goddess—and the menu features theatrical, flavor-forward drinks such as the Antediluvian (a spicy bourbon- and sotol-based cocktail topped with aloe air foam and edible flowers), Plato’s Atlantis (thyme- and tomato-infused gin with strawberry, Suze, lemon, cucumber, and a kinome leaf garnish), and the Buried Fortune (presented in a smoke-billowing bowl that invites you to “go fish” for your treasure, tasting strongly of bourbon with nutty sunflower-seed syrup notes). Digital art (for example, fish and orcas swimming by a submarine porthole) and immersive scents complete the sensory experience." - ByLanee Lee

Nia our server was amazing! She is so personable and made our experience memorable. The drinks were very unique and tasty as well as the mistletoe dip. The atmosphere in the bar is so cute with so much attention to detail. I would recommend this to everyone!

I have to say this was a real treat, we showed up around 10 and were the only ones there for about half an hour. Adam was amazing, we learned some history about the way a gimlet came to be, he gave us a comparison of the old fashioned way of what they used to drink in the Netherlands and how the British tried to copy it and came up with today's gin. The difference was night and day. The service was outstanding and I would recommend this place to everyone. This hidden gem was one of the coolest places I have been, and so glad this was open on a monday night. Thanks again!

This is the 3rd time we have come to 36 below, and this time around just hit different. Drinks were phenomenal (thank you Jordan), the food items- specifically the graveyard tacos were delicious (you are amazing Summer) & the hostess Unique is so amazing and the absolute sweetest. Having Unique being the first person to interact with before going downstairs is perfect because she starts the experience off, then being able to interact with Jordan, Avery, Summer and Adam just make the experience that much more memorable. Thank you guys for an awesome time and delicious drinks/small bites. Highly recommend coming to 36 below for all themes through out the year, you will not be disappointed. See you guys next time!!! 😊 p.s forgot to take a picture of the tacos

Google
A few friends and I went for their Halloween themed cocktails. Overall our experience was fantastic. The drinks are pricey, but were unique and quite tasty. The staff was friendly, but seemed a little off the night we went. Nothing too major, just a couple communication breakdowns. I was served an incorrect drink, but I tried it anyway and it was so delicious that I kept it! This minor concern did not detract from our overall experience. Another positive is that we got their chicken tacos; they were so amazing that we ordered a second batch. We will definitely return!

36 Below was an amazing experience! The place is full of charm, and they treat you like family. The drinks are incredibly innovative, with every detail thoughtfully crafted to make it special. And the tacos 🌮 — mmm, absolutely delicious! It’s so gratifying to visit a place where you truly feel welcomed. Huge thanks to Adam, Summer, and the rest of the staff for making it such a memorable visit!

We had a group of 12 and were lucky enough to get seated in a private space. The vibes were so dreamy. It felt like stepping into a secret little world under the city 🧜‍♀️🌊 The theme that night was mermaids, and the decor and drinks were totally giving under the sea fantasy. The lighting was soft and magical, the projections on the walls made everything feel alive, and every detail was so thought out. The cocktails? So cute. So fun. They came in creative glassware like conch shells and coral reef colors. I had one with glitter and edible pearls and honestly felt like Ariel at happy hour ✨🪸 The service was amazing. Super attentive and helpful even with our big group. Everyone was happy with their drinks and the whole night felt special without being over the top. 36 Below is the perfect spot if you want to impress your guests or just treat yourself to a different kind of night out. It’s intimate, gorgeous, and full of magic. I’ll definitely be back 🥂

We’ve gone twice now (once for the Harry Potter and yesterday for the Halloween) and it’s been such a blast each time! The bar is always expertly decorated and the drinks are delicious (and clearly well thought-out)! This time we ordered some food (the elote dip) and it was so tasty. The service has always been impeccable & everyone is so friendly. The themes really are such a joy & we can’t wait for future ones!!

Google
Best to make a reservation, bc there is very limited seating. We went during the Halloween theme, they decorated to the tee! Loved the creepy scene they had showing on the screens, and all the extra spooky things on the walls and ceilings. Had the tacos - really good! Drinks are all so much fun and tasty too.

Yelp
What we got: "All for four" Lemongrass potstickers Crab salad Earth cocktail Fire cocktail Air cocktail All for four or something like that priced at $164 for 8 cocktails or beers and mocktails , and two lemongrass potstickers unless you wanna exchange one of them for another food item they have which we did and got the crab salad , as a none cocktail drinker myself i really enjoyed the earth one similar to a mai tai without orgeat if you are allergic to nuts like myself decor was cute an music on point , food was soooo goood omg those potstickers weren't super lemongrass flavored which is really nice as well as the crab salad. Had the perfect amount sauce and then went really well at the seaweed slices that they provided. We overall had a really great time here and I can't wait for the next event. Service was a bit slow due to how packed it was but other then that no problems

Yelp
We were so stoked to try out the Tokyo After dark menu but we are giving a 1 star for the service that we received. We were first advised that the system overbooked reservations and the hostess was doing what she could to get us in. When we were finally placed it took us 10 minutes to even be acknowledged by Naya who asked if we wanted still or sparkling water. It also proceeded to take another 20 minutes for her to come back to get our order. We thought the busy hour was over when we got our drinks. We requested our check early so we could make it to another reservation. However 15 minutes later, after being completely ignored we finally had to walk to the waitress Naya to get our check. If this is a problem, consider hiring 2 servers On the menu overall, our favorite was Earth and Void cocktails. The menu was overall tasty but please provide better service.

Yelp
We checked out 36 Below's Christmas during their holiday pop-up and had such a fun time. First off, we came in matching "chest" and "nuts" shirts, which felt very on brand for the night The bar is tucked away in the basement of a coffee shop, so it's definitely a tight space, but don't let that fool you. It's cozy, festive, and absolutely packed with personality and flavor. We did the Cocktail Experience for Two, which included four cocktails and a dip, and it was such a great value. We upgraded to the crab dip with naan, and it was 100% worth the upcharge. The flavor was rich and indulgent. Could it have used a little more crab? but I'm from Baltimore, so my crab standards are admittedly spoiled Still delicious. Food wise the chicken & cranberry meatballs were a standout. So good that I'm already planning to recreate them at home. I mean YUM For drinks, I had the Filthy Animal and the Snow Globe. The Filthy Animal was a really creative, cozy take on a hot toddy. The Snow Globe was the perfect balance of sexy and playful,A Christmas cosmo done right! My partner had the whiskey sour with amaretto and could not stop talking about how good it was. The bartender's provided a Festive atmosphere, plus the thoughtful menu, and a fun experience. We'll definitely be back

Yelp
What a fun speakeasy! My friend and I had drinks at 36 Below over the summer during their Aquatica theme. My friend made a reservation which was wise because it was pretty busy. As we descended down the stairs, it felt like we were entering an underwater oasis. The Aquatica theme had a tiki bar vibe. We were seated at a table for two. The chairs were small and extremely uncomfortable. Our server was Summer and she was very nice and attentive. She told us about the date night special which consists of 4 cocktails (or mocktails) and an appetizer for $79. We weren't planning to do more than one drink, but it was too good a deal to pass up. We started with Chips and Guac which was so delicious! We were happy to have some food to munch on since we had already enjoyed a few cocktails nearby. For the first beverage I went with the Coral Queen. It came in a cute mermaid glass. It was a gin based cocktail and it was a bit on the sweeter side. My friend had the Pearl of the Sea which came in a cute conch shell glass. Glasses can be purchased for $30. For my second drink, I had the Anaya Spritz which was very refreshing. It was a basil cucumber and olive oil cocktail which is right up my alley. My friend had the Earl Grey Sour which she enjoyed. The theme changes quarterly, though they do have signature cocktails that stay on the menu. We had fun and it was a great way to end our night!

Yelp
Came back again for the Neon Tokyo experience and it was so rad! One side of the bar has soothing pink cherry blossom petals flowing down to the road and the other has a residential street lit up with bluish purple neon signs. Both equally beautiful parts of Tokyo (I imagine). The drinks this time were called Void, Air, Water, Earth, and Fire - we tried all except for Void but that's mostly because I'm not a bourbon girly and neither is my friend. All the drinks were tasty including the lovely platter of pot stickers we had. I would say my favorite drink of the night was probably the cat cup drink (earth), my friend had originally ordered it but liked my drink better (air) so we swapped. The service was quick and efficient, the host was at the podium upstairs or taking orders or behind the bar! Overall a great experience as usual, I can't wait to see what's next!

Yelp
Wife and I have been wanting to try 36 Below's Christmas themed bar and drinks. Located beneath Sip Coffee & Beer it is a small themed bar with rotating motifs. We secured an early reservation at 4 pm and were promptly seated at our reservation time. Quickly greeted by our server and the specialty drinks were explained and we put in an order. I ordered the Nutcracker Reposado Tequila, Coffee Liqueur, Amaro Montenegro, Blueberry Cordial, Salted Maple Pistachio Cream, Mexican Mole (contains dairy, nuts). Wife opted for the Snow Globe Vodka, Soju, Beet, Pomegranate, Orange, Baking Spice, Lime, Cherry Blossom, Yogurt Clarified (contains dairy) Both drinks were very tasty and the presentation was appropriately themed and well done. The bar quickly filled up and it becomes pretty tight quarters, not to where you are jammed in too tightly but the volume of conversations and temperature definitely increases so dress in some layers if you're prone to higher temps in tight spaces. I opted for the Filthy Animal which was a tasty hot toddy Graham Cracker Infused Whiskey, Chai Tea, Spanish Vanilla, Scottish Honey, Lemon, Bolivar, Cold Foam (contains dairy). Wife went for a Kiwi's Nest which was a very unique but tasty tropical type of cocktail Rum and Pisco Blend, Coca Leaf Liqueur, Kiwi Cordial, Taro-Coco Milk, Lime, Cherry Bark. By this time an hour had passed, the bar was full and drinks were taking about 10-15 minutes so we opted for the check. Totally understandable. Service was good but there's only so much staff you can get in that small space and be able to seat enough people, but not so many you can't get around. We did enjoy the bar and the drinks and would definitely recommend if themed bars are your thing.

Yelp
We were really excited to find this Halloween speakeasy located in a cafe , however immediately after entering we were told they were "so busy " and asked if we had a reservation. We did not have a reservation so we were asked to LEAVE . This isn't a boojey speakeasy by any means and as you can see from the photos there was so much empty space . RUDE rude rude , they need a lesson is service . WILL NEVER return .

Yelp
Definitely make a reservation--this place is tiny and almost always crowded. It's a very cool spot with rotating themes that keep it fun and interesting. It's on the pricier side, but the cocktails are very showy and clearly take time and care to make. I'd recommend it as a fun experience, especially if you have friends visiting and want to do something a little different.

Yelp
Absolutely gorgeous setup, loved the theme and the ambience. The drinks we got were fun and creative, although the themed drinks tended to be heavier, more complex spirits so not a lot of super fruity drinks, at least from what I saw. The tables are very small and very close, so don't expect privacy. It's a bit cramped down there, but still a really fun date night. The elote dip is AMAZING. I'm about to go back just for that.

Yelp
36 below is an interesting and immersive place to visit. We went around Halloween time and the bar was themed around horror. The screens lining the walls gave the perspective of sitting in a haunted forest with a monstrous creature occasionally running through or interacting with its surroundings, it was fun trying to spot it. All of the drinks were themed and had very very nice presentations with lights, dry ice, or special glasses. We did not have a chance to try the food, but heard good things from the people around us. The ambiance and tasty drinks makes it a very cool place to visit if you've got the money to spend. My only issue with 36 below is how crowded it is. There are tables crammed into every possible place. If they removed a few tables and gave guests more space to breath it would be a perfect date night experience. Make sure to make a reservation and check what the theme is before you visit.

Yelp
The food was pretty good. Definitely a bit different. The service was amazing. And the ambience was great. This is definitely a speakeasy. We would recommend and go back to. It was a lot of fun.

Yelp
Christmas in New York Theme. I was soo excited for this experience and was a little Bummed because I saw so many areas for improvement while we were there. First off, it was a little warm in the bar, strong AC would be more appropriate and comfortable for a Snowy NY Christmas theme. The tables were little and crowded, and the chairs were a little awkward. Loved the screens, but feedback to Management- use a real video, or live feeds or something. These videos were Ai videos and it was just odd. I would have loved if these were real videos and scenes it would have felt more festive. Videos with little surprise Santa and the reindeer flying by, or fun Christmas characters or something would have been cool. The drinks were good, but some of them could have been better. I also felt like they only did the 'cool experience' for the first drink and the rest just came out normal. I wanted lights and smoke and all the things for every drink! Such a cool idea and concept I just wanted it to feel even more like Christmas! Give me a candy cane in my drink, give me a tiny present when I leave, turn the AC on so I have to wear a sweater. Appreciated the experience But was a little let down, that's all! Love the concept but it needs to be better to compete with all the rest!

Yelp
OK I really really really really really wanted to like this place. I love Halloween stuff. But it just wasn't as fun or immersive as I thought it would be. I loved coming here when it was undertow. It really gave you that under the belly ship feeling. This was kind of more forced. Plus the seating has changed and the table and chairs were terrible. Extremely short and not very cushioned. I walked out with the sore tush. I can't imagine being a tall person and sitting there. If you are a tall person, and decide to go here, sit at the bar. It was very cramped and uncomfortable. I understand the need to maximize the space to make a profit but it was a big turn off for us. Food wise. The street corn dip was delicious! I would recommend. What was weird was they offered a special that included food for 2, 3 or 4 people. But didn't change the amount to accommodate. So three tacos or sliders for 2 or 3 people six for 4. It was kind of weird. So split a small slider or taco? Why not offer a consistent amount per person? We were seated 15 minutes after our time. Which I guess it wasn't a big thing because I don't think they would've moved us out early, but when you give people time limits on their seating I would think it would be very concise. Overall, they were trying to be helpful, but we had to ask for our napkins, silverware, and plates. Plus had to ask for our tiny tables to be bused so we had room. The waitress told us we should come during the week if we wanted more personable service. I guess. Just underwhelming overall. The drinks were OK but nothing over the top and taste that I would make a point of going back to drink like I did with Undertow. A lot of the flavors were lackluster or couldn't be tasted at all. Ps the video with the antler creatures pauses next to one of the two tops on the south wall and looks like he has a very small worm shaped man part. It was kind of funny watching the girl at the table constantly covering it every time it came by their table. Once with the leaf then usually with her hand

Yelp
I went here last year during their Halloween theme. It was amazing and food was great, drinks were awesome and the presentation was breathtaking. The staff was attentive and was very welcoming. It made the experience more enjoyable.

Yelp
I adore 36 below! They always have the best decor for every pop up experience they do and the drinks are so creative and flavorful!

Yelp
Food: we had the flatbread and it was okay. Definitely not worth the price. However we were told they are redoing the menu so excited to see the new one Drinks: tried the Rongo Rau and it was delicious! So refreshing, tropical and not too sweet. Next I tried the Martini 36 and it was so good, very well balanced Service: Summer was awesome, she was so helpful and attentive.

Yelp
As the self-appointed king of speakeasies, it's important for me to maintain my crown by checking out new ones regularly. On a Saturday afternoon, I made a reservation for 36 Below in Arcadia. They have a parking lot in the back so parking was a cinch. Ambiance (4/5): 36 Below has different themes during the year. Two of them are Halloween and Christmas. The other two are wildcards. Before their current Aquatica theme, they had a Harry Potter-themed one. I'm bummed I missed it! All good, I'm always down for a tropical/Hawaiian themed speakeasy, too. 36 Below is located inside a coffee shop (Sip). There's a staircase that takes you down to the speakeasy. Unfortunately, it's very easy to find as there's signage both inside and outside. Which takes away from the appeal of a speakeasy's true nature. The seating is a bit uncomfortable, too. All good because the decor is fun. It's intimate, we're talking 25 seats or so, so make a reservation if you're visiting on a weekend. Service (3.5/5): For a small bar, the service is a bit slow. I had to wrangle our waitress to put in another drink order and to close out. You're also only seated for an hour and a half before your seats go to the next reservation (if there is one). It wasn't a rushed experience for us but something to take note of. The service was friendly even though it wasn't the most efficient. Food (N/A): I had food prior so I was on a liquid diet, but they do have light bites. Think things like chips and guac, truffle steak fries, popcorn, etc. Not a full meal but good if you want something to snack on. Drinks (4.5/5): Five or six of the cocktails were themed and the others were their regular cocktails. When you think of a speakeasy, you think of elevated cocktails. And this was certainly the case here. My first cocktail was a tropical-themed one served in a mermaid glass. My second cocktail, off the regular menu, was a gin-based spritz. Both had an interesting fusion of flavors. The creativity is there. As is the presentation. Well done. A couple of knocks on 36 Below, but overall, a solid speakeasy. I'll be back for their Halloween theme!

Yelp
It's been almost 2 years since I've been here, but was excited to check it out again for their underwater theme this spring/summer. They switch it up every 3ish months so appreciated the variety. There's a small parking lot in the back. Unsure if it was because we were a party of 5 or since my friend accidentally made the reservation for 7, but we were in the private room I didn't know existed. As we headed down the stairs, the private room is off to the right with a door masked as a bookshelf and was a fun space! There was a tv we put to use, playing some songs. Our server, Chris, was very attentive and checked in often. As there was a deposit of $25/person placed towards the bill, we all ordered a few drinks to share including the truffle steak frites. The fries are crinkle cut, and while that's not my preferred fries style, they were crispy and paired well with the chopped up steak, cheese, and sauce - didn't get too much of a truffle flavor though. If you look at their drink menu online, it'll show you what they look like including some of the fun glassware it comes in! We tried the: Aquatica Theme: - Aloha Kai - comes in a fun treasure box and the glass lights up! There's also a skull on the giant ice cube. Drink itself just tasted like a clarified bourbon, didn't get much of the tasting notes though (pandan, jasmine water) - Pearl of the Sea - loved the shell glassware! A light tropical drink with popping boba - Coral Queen - wow, we all wanted more of this salted strawberry foam on top! Drink reminded me of the Pearl of the Sea - lightened tropical Signature Drinks: - The Orchid - cute! Could taste the lavender and vodka/st. Germain - Martini 36 - I like how sweet it was compared to the other espresso martinis I've had elsewhere. Comes with a dusted "36" on top - Kiwi's Nest - fun decor with the moss. Liked the taro-coco milk! They were also very kind to gift a round of birthday shots! We asked for a fruity tequila and they delivered. I can see how the main dining area can get cramped so thankful to know they have a private room which comes in handy with larger parties!

Yelp
Saw they had a Halloween themed menu, so I decided to check it out. The drinks were fun but tasty, and let me tell you, they sure were strong. We also got the sliders and even though they were a bit expensive for 3, they hit the spot. Also, the Halloween vibes were fun. Finally, it wasn't Halloween themed, but the espresso martini was top notch, it was unique and I really enjoyed the pistachio flavoring.

Yelp
We like this little basement bar a lot. They change their theme every so often and right now it is a Polynesian theme. We were here during the winter wonderland theme as well as the garden theme. So far I like the garden theme best but the others have been fun too. We were early for a reservation but they still took us right down. The hostess gave us each a lei and led us down the stairs. The walls of the staircase are covered in moss and plants - - it's really quite pretty. They do cram a lot of tables in so you are very close to your neighbors. Everything seems to work so well together - - The black and white tile floor and the flower mural on the ceiling. There are screens which moving pictures to add to the atmosphere - - like you're really there. They serve very creative cocktails here both in flavor and in presentation. Everything we had tonight was delicious and so cute! One cocktail served in a parrot mug was set on fire, one cocktail glowed purple, one was served in a seashell glass with boba, and one had a little plastic mermaid hanging off the side of the glass. Every time we've come here they just have the most creative drinks. As we were leaving the place was starting to become very crowded, and I was grateful that we were on our way out. We got our drinks right away, but I don't know how easy it was for the crowd that was coming as we were leaving. Will be back, especially when they change the theme again. What will they have up their sleeves next?

Yelp
Just adding a few photos of the current Halloween theme, Wicked Woods. Adam and Summer are still wonderful - fabulous drinks, fabulous food, great service, and still the best decor! Refer to my previous review for the rest, nothing has changed. Still love every one of my visits at 36 Below!

Yelp
Came on a Saturday. They provided us with leis upon check in (cute!) I had Made a reservation prior and was immediately seated when I arrived. (I will say the table and chairs are small/tiny and I felt like a grown-up sitting at a preschool table. We ended up switching from a table to the bar for comfort). It's small inside and I was happy that we came earlier in the day (around 3:30 PM ) because it probably would be very uncomfortable in the evenings when it's more crowded/more people. I love that the bar has built-in wireless charging! the decor and ambience was nice. David Was our bartender and he was fabulous! Delicious drinks. And a great personality/conversation. The drinks were he made delicious! And loved the presentation. we had the: Aloha Kai Coral queen (salted strawberry cream it was amazing!) Range rau Land ika

Yelp
I visited 36 Below on a Thursday night with my friend while visiting Arizona for her birthday. I had just flown in from LA, and as a die-hard Harry Potter fan, I couldn't miss the chance to check out this themed speakeasy before the magic disappeared! Finding it was a little confusing at first -- when you walk in, it looks like a cute, empty café. We stood there for a second, unsure, until a kind lady sitting off to the side gave us a friendly wave and directed us downstairs to the hidden gem below. That moment alone made it feel like we were stepping into another world! The ambiance inside 36 Below was amazing -- it totally gave off those magical, underground wizard vibes. I ordered the Slither & Sip cocktail, which came in the coolest snake-shaped glass and tasted just as enchanting as it looked. The attention to detail was everything. So glad we made it just in time to experience the Harry Potter theme. Highly recommend if you're into creative cocktails, unique atmospheres, or just looking for something fun and different in Phoenix!

Yelp
We were seated 15 mins into the reservation time but asked to leave at the original table time limit of what would have been 1.5 hour except our experience was cut off at 1:15 min. We had rather full drinks and the people next to us were seated prior to us, but not asked to leave before us. Not our fault that they sat us late so we did not get the full experience due to other reservations. The atmosphere is charming. The drinks are really well done but I don't like being rushed when you are paying a premium price for cocktails. This is not my first disappointing experience at 36 Below.
google avatar

Amy H.

Yelp
I really enjoyed our experience at 36 below! We went during the Harry Potter theme and appreciated how much thought and detail went into it! The drinks were amazing, but more than we'd hoped to spend and the reservation was short, I believe it was an hour and a half before we had to be paid and head out so we did not order any snacks, just had a drink each and left. While the experience was great, the service was fabulous and the atmosphere was fun, we would've liked to enjoy the experience a little longer and enjoy more drinks the next time, depending on price. We will go back!

Yelp
Hollow pop up. We had a late reservations on a Saturday night and it wasn't busy or packed. Our server was okay but she looked like she didn't want to be there. The space is small & intimate. The decor was spot on with the HP theme and we loved it! We did the cocktail experience for four . Drinks were okay, I had the messenger & the orchard (unfortunately it didn't come in the hanging glass as they only had 2 ?). We had the prosciutto & sub for the tuna tartare and that was delightful but needed more chips. Overall, it's a cute experience to try and I look forward to more of their pop up!

Yelp
Long been on my list to try. 36 below is a speakeasy bar under Sip. It's neighbors with one of my favorite spots- Century Grand. Finally made it out due to Derek Y making a Rez to try the current theme: Harry Potter bar. Me personally, I have zero interest in Harry Potter anything, but I do have serious interests in delicious drinks. So we found some common ground there :D Derek tried a mocktail version of the foam on the rim, my honey and I went harder. We got the 36 below cocktail experience for 2. That ends up being 4 drinks and a flatbread for $79. Actually pretty decent deal, and there were at least 2 drinks I wanted to try so we would have ordered that much anyway. We essentially got a free flatbread, and delicious at that. All the drinks were beautiful and interesting. Well balanced. Service was great and staff were friendly. It's a small space so it seemed everyone was chill and enjoying the chillbo baggins music. My hands down fave drink was the earl grey sour. SO good. I love earl grey and whiskey sours so it was perfect for me.

Yelp
36 Below has now become MY FAVORITE bar in the Phoenix, Arizona region! Descending down those stairs felt like stepping into another world. I absolutely loved the fine touches--the moody, dim lighting, island/underwater-themed decor, elegant glassware, and even the flawless ice cubes added to the immersive, speakeasy vibe. The 36 Sipper (bourbon, banana cordial, black walnut bitters) and the Earl Grey Sour (rye, amaretto, bergamot cordial, lemon, egg white) were my favorite cocktails of the night...and the best cocktails I've had with my most recent visit to Scottsdale. All drinks were very insanely delicious, well balanced, and had great mouthfeels! Huge shoutout to Adam--his attention to detail and friendly, knowledgeable service made the experience even better. I can't wait to visit again! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! ^-^

Yelp
This is a cute speakeasy located downstairs underneath a coffee bar. I've been to the coffee bar upstairs, which has an alcohol bar, food and full service espresso. The coffee I had was amazing and the upstairs has a large area to do work with wifi and tables. They have a huge indoor and outdoor seating area, with really cute places to take photos To go to the bar, reservations are needed. I went during their Harry Potter theme, which was cute but I think they could have upped the decorations. They had the theme on their screens and some minimal decor with three specialty drinks. I didn't like that they couldn't use certain cups for drinks if you did not want the one for the specific cup. They have a lot of unique drinks and cute cups for the aesthetic. I liked the large array of options but a lot of their drinks are more gentlemen style, not a lot of sweet. They're also very tequila heavy, which I don't like. Overall, it's definitely worth experiencing. They have a good deal for 4 drinks and an appetizer for $80, which is cheap cause each drink is about $20. The flat bread was really good and fresh. It had a savory sweat prosciutto with honey. The bread was light and airy. Would definitely come for a special occasion! The inside is small and intimate and it's a great place for a date!

Yelp
The appeal of 36 Below was initially the Harry Potter theme they had. They completely hit the nail on the head with that one. When I first walked in, I'll admit I was confused because the address brought me to a place with no discernible attachment to 36 Below. After going inside, and some helpful staff direction, I realized the below part of the establishment's name is quite literal. I ordered every drink off their themed menu, and was not disappointed. They also have a signature cocktail menu that I am sure would also prove to be just as good. Off their food menu, I ordered the prosciutto flatbread to share with one other person. All around, anything I ordered was delicious. The only reason I had to take a star off was for the uncomfortable chairs and the fact that I was quite literally shouting to be heard by my friend sitting across from me. The music is loud, people are intoxicated, so it makes sense, but that could limit some people's experience. Despite that, like 9.5/10 would visit again.

Yelp
Where do I start? well I wish I could have better things to say, I didn't have a great experience. The place is very small my husband is 6"2 and the chairs are 1ft tall. The entrance gives it christmas vibes and is the best part of the bar, we got a 4 drink and an appetizer special for a party of 2 and both drinks were disappointing, the first drink took over 20min to arrive and waitress apologized. The Christmas dip was a disaster, soupy sweet cream to eat with pita bread!!! weird.

Yelp
My wife and I were in Phoenix looking for a fun date night spot and this place was perfect. The atmosphere makes you forget you're in the desert--suddenly you're in a tropical getaway. The lighting and occasional thunder add to the vibe without being over the top. Drinks and food were both great and fit the theme really well. Service was friendly, quick, and we never felt rushed--just genuinely welcomed. Such a fun, unique experience. Definitely a must-do in Phoenix!

Yelp
Popped in late on a Sunday without reservations (highly suggested for any weekend daters I heard) and Randy? (Dark haired Latino bartender) was so friendly and helpful with the menu! Everything has its own cute little decorations and the staff were absolutely wonderful. The drinks were yummy and the kitchen was closed by the time I got there but other customers who were eating looked like they enjoyed themselves. I couldn't have had a better time.

Yelp
A friend and I got a reservation for their pop-up Harry Potter bar. I am not the hugest fan of Harry Potter but my friend is a die hard fan. To begin the parking lot needs some major renovations as there are several pot holes (something to keep in mind when parking) The coffee shop is very cute and we made our way to the hostess stand who was very kind and got us in earlier than our reservation time. The bar itself is very small and seating very tight if you suffer from claustrophobia this is not the place for you. I thought the theming was ok but could be better however my friend who really knows Harry Potter was disappointed. The bartenders were quick and the drinks were just ok very strong but not what we were hoping for. All in all I am not sure that I would make my way back to 36 below.

Yelp
36 Below was decorated for the Christmas pop up and it was sooo cute! Very festive and I loved walking down the stairs and seeing all the decorations - made it very official. I had the nog drink and my boyfriend just got a glass of red wine (boring! ;)). I loooved my drink - I like the creamier ones so this hit the spot. Still not too sweet but warming and punchy and yummy. And it came with a roasted marshmallow, which tasted so good when soaking up the drink. My boyfriend also liked my drink and was surprised he liked it so much. He did love his wine. The service was fast which is nice because you only have 1.5 hours to sit and drink. We only had time for one drink but they're a little expensive so it worked out!

Yelp
First time visiting and we were very very impressed! We came during the Christmas theme and it was awesome. Such a fun vibe and the Christmas decorations really made you feel like you were out of AZ for a bit. Definitely recommend making a reservation if you want to come. Walk ins are allowed but it's a long list and saw a lot of people get turned away. The inside is small but very intimate. Great spot for a friend's night or a date! The decorations were perfect, Christmas music playing, and just a great Christmas vibe the whole time. They do have a good size drink menu, plus a seasonal drink menu, and a few appetizer options as well. We did the Group of 4 combination and it was the perfect amount of drinks and food. Highly recommend. The Holiday Nog was the showstopper- so delicious and smooth. Pro Tip: the drinks can take a while to make/come to your table. Order early so you have enough time to enjoy the whole experience. They are only 90 minute reservations so don't be late! It's an excellent Christmas bar and we will definitely be back again to see their next theme.

Yelp
Came for the Christmas bar, the theme is cute and everything is decorated. It's a restaurant underneath a coffee shop which also had good spiked coffee and cocktails. The space is small, short ceilings which gives it a nice aesthetic. (I was a little claustrophobic) Bartenders and service were great, sat at the bar and got to see the drinks being made. Speaking of drinks they mainly have cocktails and light bites, but the cocktails were delicious, very unique. There were so many different options that sounded good I couldn't choose. I had one that was hanging like a chair, and a mushroom. They also give great descriptions below the drinks, which helped and made it fun. They had a great special going on for 2 or 4 people. 2 people 4 drinks and an apt for $80, I love a good deal. Would love to see it normally as well, excited to try it again. A lot of potholes in the parking lot though.

Yelp
Had been wanting to check this place out for the longest time and the opportunity finally came by. Made a reservation a week prior and booking it was easy. We booked for 11:30pm on a Friday night. The day finally came by and we were hella early - about an hour and a half early. We got a drink at SIP and sat outside on the patio for a bit. My friend decided to go ask the hostess about maybe letting us in early and she said all she was given was attitude for asking. It was finally 11:25pm and time to head downstairs. The hostess was no longer there at the top so we walked ourselves down. Once downstairs, we were told to wait and a worker finally came over and sat us at the bar. Our seating arrangement was weird as there was a big pole separating my one friend from us two as we were a party of three. One of the bartenders quickly greeted us as we sat down and he quickly gave us the rundown of the menu. We all ordered different drinks. My two friends ordered off their "spooky" special menu and I ordered off their regular menu. I had the mycelium drink and they had a cauldron drink and a potion drink. (don't remember the names) Water was also brought out so we sipped on that while we waited. About 15 minutes passed by and our drinks were finally given to us. The potion drink was bomb. It was sweet and not too strong. The cauldron drink was a rip off and not even half way full. It was less then half, more like a shot - my friend was upset. On social media it is portrayed differently - we have seen may posts about the cauldron being full, hmmm. The presentation of the mycelium drink was pretty cute and unique. Taste wise? GROSS. I did not like it one bit. It was super sour, bitter, and tasted what I think gasoline must taste like. It literally gave me heartburn the rest of the night... Only spent about 45 minutes here and we decided to leave. Its small inside and it was still very much packed when we left. Cool concept and great décor / theme but ehh could've definitely been better.

Yelp
Went out for the night with the girls!! We all love Harry Potter and were so excited to be able to experience the Harry Potter theme. As you descend the stairs the ceiling has Hogwarts letters hanging and it was a very nice touch to the theme. The overall bar is small but it was perfect when we went since there were not many people there. There were even a couple of tables that were empty. The decor was SPOT ON everywhere and I loved that the sorting hat was included. There were floating candles scattered throughout the ceiling of the main bar!! The drinks were absolutely delicious!! I had the Slither & Sip while my friends had The Goblet. Both were divine!! We showed up without a reservation but were able to be sat for about 45 minutes and we took advantage of it. Unfortunately, the service was quite slow and we weren't greeted for about 15 minutes thus we were only able to order one drink each. We all decided to just have one drink and no appetizers since the food would take too long for our limited time. I do plan to come back and with a reservation :)

Yelp
I've been to 36 Below twice with two different groups and both times everyone thought the cocktails were not good. Having tried multiple, I really think they miss the mark with flavors in basically all of their original creations. We actually didn't even finish our drinks they were that gross. The Negroni was very good though, and my friend enjoyed her dirty martini, so definitely consider sticking to the classics if you come. We also tried the prosciutto and burrata plate and it was good but definitely overpriced. Service is very meh despite being a super small place. We had to call our waitress over multiple times as she never checked back. It is really small and cramped, but I do think it's cozy inside and the Christmas decor was nice.

Yelp
This place is always so much fun! I recently went for their Halloween pop-up and it didn't disappoint. Reservations are easy to make online and recommended. They had a great deal going on for 4 drinks and a hummus platter for $50, but the drink selection was only for their festive drinks (which was fine for us since that's what wanted). I tried the Skull Crusher and Wildfire. The Wildfire came in a potion bottle and was my favorite. It had a Smokey smell but the drink itself wasn't as Smokey. They also had a drink that came in a Calderon that was fun. The hummus plate was delicious. Someone made the wrong drink for us, and they let us keep the wrong drink in addition to the correct one, so that was very nice of them. This place is very small, and located below a coffee shop and they do a fantastic job on their decorations.

Yelp
Drinks are 10/10, I don't think you can order a bad drink. Expensive but quality and they're strong so worth it and great spot for a fun date night. Food was good, service was good. We went during the Harry Potter pop up which was a fun lil theme. V cool place!

Yelp
This speakeasy is so freaking cute. It's located at the bottom of Sip Coffee & Beer Garage. It gives an underwater vibe. The seating is very limited. However, we were able to be seated without a reservation. The bartenders were so nice. We ordered three different mocktails, and they were all pretty good and beautifully crafted. If I lived in Phoenix, I would definitely visit again!

Yelp
Amazing experience! I visited from out of town and I was very impressed. Small intimate space, and the ambiance is to die for. Very beautiful atmosphere and set up. The drinks were really fun and our bartender Adam was great! We tried the orchid, the antidote and stranger zero proof. 10/10 recommend this place. Be sure to make reservations first.

Yelp
My mom and I went to try 36 Below to taste some of their Christmas specials! My mom got the eggnog martini and I got the Talbot (vodka, apple brandy, earl grey tea, fig, lime, ginger beer) - we both really liked our cocktails! They were a bit pricey ($45 for 2 drinks) but it was fun environment. It was easy to talk/hear each other versus some of the other bars in the area which I appreciated! Our server was a sweet girl and we got there right when they opened so we were seated right away (made reservations) and got drinks fairly quickly! We liked the decorations but wished they dressed it up a bit more and had a couple more Christmas cocktail options for the season!

Yelp
This was my 2nd time going to 36 Below (the first time was a few years back when it was a different theme). Being huge Potterheads, my friend and I decided to check it out since they have a Harry Potter theme going on. They had some cute decorations like the candles and flying keys hanging from the ceiling, the letters behind the bar and down the entrance, and some other little nods to HP. I do wish they'd done a bit more for the theme since it still looked very similar to how it was before. They had a great deal for 4 drinks and a flatbread (only $79!!!). Both were yummy and the bartenders were quick, attentive, and friendly. The speakeasy is also located in a cute coffee shop (will have to try at some point) and there is a pretty good parking lot.

Yelp
36 Below is such a fun spot located below a coffee shop. I love the dark and moody interior, which right now has Harry Potter adjacent decor. Service was great. I do remember there being food options previously, but I didn't see those options this time. The drinks were fun and unique. A fun spot and experience.
