There have only been a few times over the last decade that a dishI've tried at a restaurant has made me drop my fork the moment I tasted it. I need go be stunned at the quality of the bite I've just had, completely captivated by the flavor engulfing my pallet. I can recall it happening maybe two times over the past year and both at eateries I now consider some of New Orlean's best. I'm lucky enough to have had a similar experience at Origen, and in the same vein, the Venezuelan bistro has become an undeniable juggernaut for me in the city's restaurant scene.
This small locale in St. Roch has a unique, yet charming, set-up. It was curated to look like an old Latin American hotel, complete with cozy wooden dinner tables and a couple Clase Azul bottles tucked in corners here and there. The ambience remained pleasant throughout, with a kind wait staff who, while new, answered our questions and provided recommendations to a desirable extent. Everything about the food had been masterful, from the portion size to the authentic aromas and savoriness. The appetizer arepas had the perfect combination of crumbly bread and seasoned chicken, with the beef option stealing the show.
Origen Venezuelan Bistro impressed me from the very first mouthful and, like other restaurants that have done the same before, deserves every local's utmost attention.
