An absolute gem! The oxtail meatloaf was an unexpected delight—tender, full of rich flavor, and finished with a glaze that’s truly to die for. The smashed potatoes, Brussels sprouts, braised greens, deviled eggs, and cornbread delivered a perfect balance of textures and bold, satisfying taste, 3-cheese Mac was decent. But, the SHAVED GREENS salad? A standout surprise. Atmosphere and food left nothing to be desired. While there were a few small delays, the service was warm, and our order arrived quickly and piping hot. The complimentary warm nuts were a charming touch. Can’t wait to return!

First time at this restaurant today and I never knew they existed. The place is nice, the music was good. Service was okay. There was only one server and one hostess. It was slow for a Saturday night. Food was excellent in my opinion. I got the wings in the honey gold flavor, Brussels sprouts and Mac and cheese. My husband got the oxtail meatloaf, smashed potatoes and cornbread. The cornbread was okay. Nothing to brag about but that oxtail meatloaf was excellent. I’ll be back, hoping to see more servers and hopefully a bigger crowd.

Great food in a beautiful space, overlooking a greenway with lots of natural light. Servers were slow and distracted on their phones, but pleasant. Food came out fast once ordered. Really enjoyed the oxtail meatloaf and the pan seared trout. Mac n cheese was gooey and flavorful. Greens were flavorful. Field peas mash with beans was very good. Cocktail was average. Bread pudding and homemade ice cream was great, good texture, not overly sweet. We would come back here again.

A friend and I went for their Sunday brunch. For starters online it says that they do a buffet for brunch and I got all excited for the carrot cake pancakes! My excitement was quickly extinguished when we were told that they don't do the buffet for brunch anymore. We decided to stay and try their brunch menu, and we were only the second table taken in the whole restaurant. It's really cute inside, whoever did the interior design did a great job, and there are thoughtful details in all the interiors, but when you're the only other table in there it's a bit of a strange feeling. I got the French toast and deviled eggs with a mimosa. Don't waste your money on the French toast, while it was delicious, it was two pieces of cheap white toast and some powdered sugar, for $15... I'm still in shock I paid that for two thin pieces of French toast that tasted like I had made it at home. The deviled eggs were also very good even though you could tell they'd been sitting out for a bit, the egg had that slightly darker hardened exterior that they get when they sit for a while. My friend got the chicken and waffles, which was a much better portion of food, she says the chicken tasted really good, she just wished it hadn't been a bone in chicken, which made it difficult to eat with the waffles. The waffles she says we're crumbly and tasted like frozen waffles you'd get from the store. So for $25 hers was slightly a better portion but not as good as we've experienced elsewhere. Overall the food is delicious, at least for brunch I don't think you'll be disappointed in that, but the quantity of food for the price is a hit or miss to the point of being abysmal! I may go back to try their dinner, but definitely won't be back for brunch.

Attended a private event here. Loved the decor and ambiance. The owner was very personable and made us feel welcomed. I love that their food is unique and good. The owners are from Memphis and add their unique twist to their menu that is a stand out from the norm. Great spot for brunch, date night, or just a nice evening out. They have a speakeasy room that's cozy and would be a great rental for a small birthday or private event.

We were so excited to try this place and then so disappointed. The service was the worse. Everything was ala carte which was interesting. It took over 30 minutes to get our drinks, the appetizer didn't come out before the meal but after we got out meal, and then our server didn't check on us until we had to ask someone else for them. We had to ask someone else to take our order after waiting for 25 minutes. The worst part is that they weren't even slammed busy. The food was mediocre. I got the colonel drink and it was great. That was the highlight of the night. It was an expensive disappointing evening. The music was good though

Oftentimes fusion restaurants create loud dishes with contrasting flavors and a confusing ambiance. However, 3rd and Fernwood is not your average fusion restaurant. Everything about this restaurant is cohesive, intentional, and cozy. The interior design is warm and inviting. The staff were kind and attentive. The menu is a beautiful collection of comfort dishes from across the African diaspora with influences from the Southern U.S, Senegal, Haiti, NYC, etc. The seafood salad was the best we had ever tried. If you’ve ever been to a Collier restaurant, then you know they fry everything to perfection and this establishment was no exception. The dirty grits were full of flavor. The oxtail meatloaf blew our minds. The only note we had on the food was that the pikliz was missing the habanero/ scotch bonnet element. 3rd & Fernwood is a 9.5/10 in my book. Congratulations to Seth & the Colliers on another fabulous restaurant.

I ordered the oxtail meatloaf (not pictured), collards, dirty grits, and candied sweet potatoes. The meatloaf and collards were deliciously flavored. The collards are slightly sweet, so if you like bitter/vinegar based greens…these aren’t for you. The butter and herbs on the potatoes added a savory element to the traditionally sweet profile, which I enjoyed. Appetizers for the table were bread service with sangria butter. Loved the butter & the bread was soft. The assortment of pickled items was neat. I enjoyed the beets, pickles, and cauliflower (turmeric and sweet) the most. Ambiance (lighting & music) here is amazing! And they can accommodate large groups! Server was overwhelmed and was unsure of how to manage the payments at the end. They could use more waitstaff and bartenders.

Just had a lovely lunch here. Beautiful day sitting outside with live music, drinks and delicious food. We had the fried chicken breast sandwich and meatloaf both were so good. Homemade chips that came with the sandwich were amazing. Seth checked in with us at the end to see how everything was and thank us. Will definitely be back!

My husband and I are supportive of the Chef and how his food is amazing. We had the most amazing time! Our waitress was absolutely amazing, professional and attentive. She also gave me a great suggestion on cocktails and she was right! It was a beautiful time we had, low level noise and a vibe. We had the option of sitting outside and it was beautiful. The food....AMAZING!!!! I have been wanting to try the Braised Oxtail Meatloaf and it did not disappoint! My hubby has the trout which was great, and the 3 Cheess Mac and Cheese and Grits were surprisingly great! We also had sweet potatoes. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone. The food is filled with love and will leave you full!

Made a reservation for a group of 6 on a Saturday evening. While there was a little wait when I arrived due to what seemed to be few staff, multiple people make sure to greet me and let me know they would be with me soon. Once seated, the waitress came over immediately. Our waitress also happened to be the bartender so made great drink recos and also provided honest feedback on menu items. Our food took awhile to come our, but our waitress offered complimentary drinks to make up for it. The owner, Subrina, also took time to come to our table and check on us and apologize for the wait. Everything was so flavorful and fresh. I look forward to going back to try additional items! Added bonus - we got to meet Kerry Washington who happened to be dining in as well!

Disappointing!! We'd gone once before during soft opening and didn't have a good experience. Our second visit was worse. We arrived at 6:55 on Saturday without rezzies since Open Table showed lots of empty tables. No host(ess) was at the door. It was also freezing inside. There were 4 tables seated when we arrived... nearly empty, and we were told "it might be a few minutes" so we stood there for 5 minutes before being seated, without menus. It took 5 more minutes before we got menus & water... with a nearly empty restaurant. Napkins were wrinkled. Our server was sweet but not trained. We quickly chose a starter (shaved cauliflower and squash) & wine. We sat 10 more minutes waiting to place entreé orders, with no bread and no wine. We waited 15 minutes for the starter salad and 25 minutes for our wine, which was opened in the kitchen not at the table. We never got bread but after sitting 20 minutes got a bowl of mixed nuts. Starter came out just before entrees so was only half eaten. The plating & presentation of the food was sub-par. Chicken breast was dropped on a plate alone with no garnish. The small mushroom burger was over salted with wilted lettuce. Green beans were overcooked, with too much salt & vinegar and was swimming in broth. The charred zucchini was just okay. When the check arrived our server realized she'd forgotten to add our $49 wine so had to rerun the ticket. This was similar to our first visit when the bill arrived with a total of $0 due to the server's error. Unforced errors. I really wanted to like this place. Both times. But both times were SO disappointing... and the second time they couldn't blame it on their soft opening. I would go hungry before I went to this place again. Not worth the money. Food truck fare at white tablecloth prices.

Listen I haven't been this excited about food or a menu in a minute ! We read everything on the menu & didn't know where to begin because everything stood out! Greg and Subrina Collier same owners of Leah & Louise & Uptown yolk has done it again with rolling out 3rd & Fernwood . The menu is southern inspired & from everything I tried here you honestly can't go wrong ! They start you off with complimentary peanuts when you arrive . All of the sides are À la carte keep that in mind when ordering your main meal . I have a feeling I'm going to be in here multiple times a week based off the salad alone !! My sister has been bragging on this salad she's from Atlanta & stumbled across it while here visiting . Everything I tried wasn't just tasty but affordable ! I highly recommend this spot!

I stopped by this spot one weekday evening. It was around 5:30pm. When I walked in there were no patrons. The front desk staff greeted me while he was maintaining a conversation on his cell phone. I only note this because I think it is highly unprofessional. The staff told me I could have a seat at the bar. It was freezing inside the restaurant so I asked if I could sit outside. He advised I could and he would be out in a few minutes. I seated myself outside . The staff came shortly and provided me with a menu. NOTE: he still had that cell phone in tow! A female waitstaff came over to the table with water. We discussed the menu for a few minutes. I was told they are somewhat like a meat and 3 spot. Essentially you order a protein and the sides you desire. They offer 5 protein options and about 9 side options. They also offer 4 sandwiches that are served with house made chips. I opted for the shaved salad, and the smoked mushroom burger. After placing my order the wait staff returned to advise they were out of mushrooms. As such I switched my order to a shrimp po boy. In addition to what I ordered I was provided a sample of their bread service. Regarding the food- I loved the bread and the salad! The shrimp po boy I would not order again. The house made fries were also good. I also ordered dessert to go. It was some type of peach dessert. I see that it is not listed on the online menu. I was told they only have plantain pudding and the peach dessert. The website lists a smoked pecan pie and oat pound cake. I did enjoy the dessert. It was basically like a puff pastry filled with sliced peaches and a cream. Overall, this spot has potential to be great. The inside decor is stunning. They get a ton of points for the salad- so good! . Areas that could be improved include having items noted on the menu available and a little more attentive service up front. I don't live in the city, but I would give this spot another try in the future.

Decided to check out this restaurant today with a friend for lunch. Upon arrival we were seated immediately, served water and the bread with sangria butter. It was just okay nothing to get excited about as there was no real flavor. We ordered a lot of items on the menu that included the chicken sandwich, chicken breast, a salad, field peas, Mac & cheese, corn and greens topped with cornbread. Overall, the food was extremely good! The sauce and slaw was perfect. Everything looked so basic but was packed with great flavor. Now for the service, they could use more work. Asked for lemon for my water and it took a bit to receive. Also, field peas, greens and corn didn't come with the rest of the food. They brought it afterwards. Again, food was good and service could some work. Check it out.

Award-winning chefs Greg & Subrina Collier (of Leah & Louise fame) recently opened this new concept in The Metropolitan. Think of it as soul food but elevated. Service was great but a bit slow. We were dining alone for a while before other patrons trickled in. I suspect the location has much to do with that. Enjoyed the food, ambience (beautiful space), and music tho. It's the taste and quality you'd expect from these chefs if you like their other stores. We particularly liked the fried squash dish and collards. The pickled vegetables were a unique delight also. All in all, we had a good experience and will be back into support. Be aware that they're still in their soft opening stage and currently don't have a liquor license.

I was looking forward to trying this restaurant, as I am a fan of their other concepts. I was excited to be able to book a reservation for 6 for Father's Day just a few days before. The reservation was for right when they opened. We arrived a few minutes before they opened and opted to wait outside. The scenery is beautiful and perfect for family pictures. Right when they opened, we went inside and were promptly seated. The decor is nice with lots of natural light and a beautiful mural on the wall. Our server was very patient and answered all of our questions about the menu. She explained that they were still going through a soft-opening. This was helpful as there were some hiccups along the way. For starters, after she went to submit our order, she let me know that the dish I had requested wasn't prepped yet and would take a long time. I opted to choose something else. Everything that we tasted was delicious. However, the food did not come out all at once. In fact, most of our party had finished their entrees before others received theirs. Some items never arrived at all. Chef Collier did come around and speak to us directly. He also sent out some complimentary dishes and adjusted our bill to make-up for the issues, which was very much appreciated. I can't wait to go back once they have worked out the kinks of the new opening. That mushroom burger is still calling my name!

The food was amazing!!!! Took a little longer than expected, but absolutely no complaints!!! Definitely will be going back.

I took a friend here to celebrate a birthday and, as an avid fan of all things Collier, was not surprised to see that they have another hit on their hands! Centrally located & overlooking the lovely midtown greenway, 3rd & Fernwood resonates as an oasis of southern comfort amidst the hustle & bustle of center city. Excellently pleasant and attentive service from the greeting at the door & all throughout your meal. A broad array of dishes that have a ring of familiarity from other Collier concepts, but with new & much-appreciated twists. I sampled everything on my table--oxtail meatloaf, candied sweet potatoes, shrimp po'boy, fried okra, & braised collards (w/turkey)--and it truly was a 10s across the board situation. Pro Tip: Get the greens!!! My dining companion was tempted to turn her bowl up and, while decorum says no, I completely understood why. Cheers!

Headline is that the food is delicious, but I'm really concerned about the longevity of 3rd and Fernwood. We went on a Saturday night before going to a show at the Belk Theater. We arrived at 5:45 and only two other tables were occupied. When we left, only two other tables had been sat. The service was very good, but they were out of two beers and out of several side dishes. I can understand being out of the fried okra, but hush puppies? Seems like a batch could be made very quickly. They also were out of the fried zucchini. I thought maybe the fryer was down, but we'll get to why it couldn't have been What we were able to get was great. I ordered the shrimp po'boy that came with the house chips. The shrimp were fried perfectly and crunchy yet tender. The chips were fantastic! Crisp and the seasoning was great. We were able to other grits, cream corn and sweet potatoes as sides and they were delicious. Our friends ordered the smash burger and the pork steak. The burger was a hit and I tried the pork and it was really good. All that being said about the food, anyplace I've been on a Saturday night that wasn't packed has never lasted long. Adding in the dishes that were not available, I wonder if the inventory is being managed correctly. I hate to see good food get overshadowed, but that appears to be what is happening and it is a shame. The space is fun and open. The potential is there

Chef Collier has done it again. I love the a la carte concept - allows you to mix and match. For two of us, we had two proteins and three sides. The sides stole the show for me. Everything was seasoned to perfection. Hearty but not too heavy. Elevated but not too bougie. You have to try this new spot!

Stopped by on a Tuesday night and the restaurant was empty. I have been to Leah & Louise and knew the food would be good. The problem with the restaurant when comparing it to L &L is that it has lost it's soul. Felt the restaurant was too antiseptic and uninviting. L&L had a vibe and funk. It was small, crowded and loud. But that is what made it along with the food worth visiting. Unfortunately, there is nothing here to make me want to come back. I can get the same food at other places.

Was excited to try this place out. The ambiance is kind of blah and the music was a bit loud. It took quite a while to get serviced when we first came in. They brought us someone elses' appetizers and our drink glass had lipstick on it. The food was actually very good though. Hopefully they can get more staff and try to get things going quicker. I would be open to trying again. As I really enjoy their sister restaurant Leah and Louise.

This was my first time going to this establishment and I must say that I was impressed. From the exquisite staff experience to the delicious food options, my group and I were very impressed. The food was seasoned to perfection especially the Mac n cheese, chicken sandwich, and the catfish sandwich. Will definitely be coming back in the near future. Want to send a big thanks to Seth and Mimi for their professionalism and making sure the group and I were taken care of.

All things considered, it's their soft opening. So strictly reviewing the food (not the vibe, service, decor, etc.). Staff were very friendly, and check in on us a lot. The meatloaf was OK, had a hint of sausage taste to it. Texture was similar to regular meatloaf. The mac n cheese wasn't as good as expected. It wasn't bad, just tasted like a typical side of mac you could order at other restaurants. Somewhat small proportion as well. The hoe cakes were probably the best item, unique display as well. The butter was great, full of flavor.

If there were ever a time I wanted to gatekeep, this would be it!!! But, that's not my thing- so here y'all go. We arrived shortly after opening and were seated pretty quickly. AMBIANCE: The place itself is beautifully done. Beautiful decor. Nice layout. Gorgeous mural. A definite vibe! SERVICE: Service was good. Our server, Subrina, was amazing. She was friendly and helpful. She gave good recommendations. FOOD: AMAZING!!!!!! We are a party of 2 and ordered, Bread service, Mushroom burger which came w/ homemade chips, Hoe cakes, Braised oxtail meatloaf, Fried yellow squash which had an okra jam, and Bread pudding (I believe she said it was made from rhubarb). If you are vegan, then you MUST get the mushroom burger. The best vegan burger the diner has eaten in 10 years! It was delicious. Great crunch. Great flavor. The accompanying house chips were also delicious. They must have fried them 3xs to get them that crispy. The oxtail meatloaf was so good, I decided to box it up and bring it home, because I wanted to make it into a sandwich later (and I did! And it was fantastic!). Also, just a great concept. I have never heard of oxtail meatloaf, and it did not disappoint. The fried yellow squash was also fried to perfection. Already flavorful on its own, but... they had the nerve to add an okra jelly on the bottom of the plate. Omg! Okra jelly!!! It was phenomenal. Lastly, thee bread pudding. Thee... bread... pudding came with a homemade whip cream, ruby chocolate chips sprinkled on top, and a glaze. Have you ever gotten something you didn't know you needed until you got it?! Well, thee bread pudding is it. Great flavor. Nice texture- not mushy at all. A beautiful end to a wonderful meal. We cannot wait to go back and try the other items on the menu.

I went to 3rd and Fernwood for the first time after looking at the reviews and photos. It held up to my expectations! After meeting the manager, Seth, who made not only drink recommendations but also music recommendations, I indulged on the loaded potato soup, oxtail meatloaf along with several sides cause why not - mac and cheese, charred zucchini, braised collard greens and dirty rice grits. Everything was superb. If you haven't been check it out.

Such a great place. Service, food, atmosphere...everything was just remarkable. Definitely coming back.

Very underwhelming. Sweet potatoes were seasoned with an odd ingredient and the Mac and cheese was terrible. The cheese wasn't even melted. Collards were really good though!

We had a reservation for 4 for 6:30 Friday. We came in and they were very crowded due to a private party. They gave us a table and water. Never came back to get our drink order or food. We finally left and went to dresslers next door and had a delicious meal with wonderful service. We had eaten at 3rd and fernwood during restaurant week. It was delicious and very reasonable and the noise level was fine because there was not many people there since it just opened. I had been bragging on the restaurant to my friends and was truly disappointed.

Get to this place! Fried chicken sandwich to die for! Fresh flowers on the tables. Staff is amazing! Easy parking in the garage at the Metroplitan. Will def be going back!

Let me start by saying service is pretty slow. There were only one other table when we went to eat and the food took 30min to come out. It was sandwiches and it took that long. Menu wise, very limited menu SUPER limited menu. Sandwich and salads. Food was decently good but a bit pricy for how small they were.

The restaurant is still operating under soft opening and unfortunately it is evident. They don't have a kids menu and we had to order from the full menu instead of the restaurant week menu since they still wanted to charge $40 per person for an 8 year old. Once we ordered our meals, it took 20 minutes for the last diner to get his slice of meatloaf despite the fact another diner with us got their meatloaf with the rest of our meals. We had trout and would definitely recommend putting the gravy on the flesh side instead of the skin side since most people don't eat fish skin. The greens with cornbread crumbles had way too much cornbread on top. They were good but we had to scoop cornbread out of the bowl. We enjoyed the smash burger although it was prepared medium without asking and we were worried about feeding to an 8 year old. The food (meatloaf, trout and burger) overall was tasty. There was a dessert that described having pistachios in it, but almonds were substituted. We were advised in advance and were told the dish would have almonds instead of pistachios. The menu should be updated. Overall, more time is needed to get little things right like service, accurate menus, and ensuring all meals are presented at the same time. The waitress comped the 2 iced teas and 1 Arnold Palmer ordered although it would have been more appropriate to comp the meatloaf since it was 20 minutes late after everyone else's meal. We'll definitely try again, but well after the soft opening phase for 3rd & Fernwood.
