"One day, not far from now, there’ll be a (wholly incorrect) Telegraph think-piece that tracks the demise of millennials’ mortgage aspirations to the day that 40 Maltby Street opened its doors. The daddy of all London archway wine bars, this effortless Bermondsey charmer has set the bar for cavernous, vino-soaked nights that centre around nibbling terrine and flirting in period film lighting. The menu changes regularly but know that your chances of spotting ‘rillettes’, ‘pickled sardines’, and ‘lovage’ on the handwritten blackboard are high." - heidi lauth beasley
"With its no-bookings policy and location under a railway arch in Bermondsey, there’s no doubt that 40 Maltby could have aspirations to be the most annoying restaurant in London. Instead, it’s one of the most gentle and lovely. Catch-ups over terrine, fritters, and at least two custard or swiss roll-type desserts are regular." - jake missing, heidi lauth beasley, sinead cranna
"You can now order wine from 40 Maltby Street’s wine shop and veg, eggs and dairy, and other pantry essentials from their food shop." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak
"40 Maltby Street is a cute wine bar near London Bridge serving low-intervention wines from select makers around Europe, and you can get those wines delivered to your door from Gergovie Wines. For £9 (for up to 12 bottles), they’re aiming for overnight delivery to most addresses in the UK. Just make sure you get an order to them before dispatch days (Tuesday and Thursday). N.b. if you order 36 bottles or more - and we don’t think you should rule that out - delivery is free, so get ordering." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing
"Open Wednesday to Saturday with a changing menu that jumps from terrine to fritters to rhubarb jelly with Jersey cream, 40 Maltby is an any-day, any-night, any-situation establishment. The Bermondsey wine bar and European-leaning small plates restaurant is a hidden-away, strictly no-reservations hot spot. Given their excellent wine list, spending any amount of time waiting at the bar is a blessing rather than a curse." - jake missing, heidi lauth beasley, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna, daisy meager
