Plum wine is so good. Sushi rolls are fresh. Miso soup is good too.

Wes Pittillo

Google
Not the worst sushi I’ve had but really close to it. The sashimi portions were literally a third of what they should’ve been. It’s like they took a regular piece of sashimi and cut it into 3 pieces, not exaggerating. Nigiri was about half the size it should’ve been and the quality was awful. Ive been here several times in the past and had good experiences but this place has fallen hard, complete waste of money

Google
Excellent sushi, service, and ombiance. It's a fusion type style of a sushi joint with a solid menu. Very good place in the heart of College Station. It's reasonably priced, and they offer high-quality food with a ton of food and sushi choices. I'll definitely be back.

Google
We love this place! The best sushi in town! We love the quiet atmosphere you can truly have a good conversation there. Staff is friendly and professional. We’ll keep coming for sure.

Google
I work for delivery services and I tried calling in my order multiple times and all I got back was a dial tone, it's really unfortunate since I was told it would be 40 minutes after driving 20 mins to the store. if you're going to have your phone number on the website, but not take call in orders, it costs people like me time and money... Is there a specific reason why you were not taking calls an hour before close? Update: it's actually been an hour and 15 mins and nobody has come to let me know why, originally gave 4 stars as to not hurt the rating but lowered it. Many people left saying they'd been there for quite a while without getting their food. Do not order from this place if you don't want to wait for over an hour with no updates

Google
We decided to grab some lunch from 40 Tempura Japanese Fusion Grill. Everything was pretty great, with the exception of one thing, including the food, service, wait-time, and location. Because we visited during lunch on a weekday, it wasn't crowded thus no wait time. The location was easy to find, and there were ample parking spaces. The service was also very nice and attentive. We all wanted to order the Bentos — Roll, Tempura Roll, and Sushi. The Roll Bento tasted great. The Sushi Bento was fresh. The kicker was the Tempura Roll Bento—which tasted oilier than expected. I didn't enjoy eating the Tempura Roll Bento because one bite into the Shrimp Tempura, and you can feel the oil oozing out. Overall, I don't think I'd visit again. I'm giving service and location 5/5, but food was a 3/5 for me.

Very nice intimate setting. Food is prepped freshly.

Google
Came here after my ring day. Was starving so ordered the texas tempura. It was a huge roll and was very flavourful. My friend got the bento box, which had nice variety but the meal size was on the smaller end. Loved the place, would come here back again. I wont say the place is costly, but it isn't on the cheaper end either.

Yelp
Truly a local treasure. The menu has so many options, and they're all delicious. The butterfly kiss is a personal favorite--so light and perfectly balanced. The service is always excellent and helpful.

Yelp
This is the best sushi I tried here in college station. My favorite was the spider roll, definitely order one of those! The rest were pretty good too, but the spider roll was on another level. The service was great too, even though I called them 10 mins before arriving on a Saturday night and had a party of 10, they seated us right away! The seating area inside was a little small, but overall very clean and efficient. Definitely recommend trying out, but do keep in mind that it will be slightly pricer than other sushi restaurants in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
Came here for the first time with my friend. We ordered the Spider Roll (crunchy and delicious), Crunch Roll (super delicious), Hawaiian Roll (it was ok), Perfect Bento (flavorful and fulfilling), and the Ebi Nigiri (simple and delicious). Even though there are no sushi joints that can compare to my home in Hawaii, this still has got to be the best sushi place so far here in this city that I've eaten at. Overall, reasonable price for the quality of food. The staff are fast and friendly. You can see the chefs do their thing. Their menu is huge. Large parking lot and a lot tables.

Yelp
Everything! The food was amazing. High quality. Our server Briana was awesome. The ambiance was up business casual date night. Smooth jazz piano Japanese music playing softly in the background. You NEED to get the tempura cheesecake!!! Will absolutely be returning.

Yelp
This was my second time here and the service was impeccable (as was the first time). The sushi bar where the food is being prepped is out front and it feels a little more upscale. Sushi and appetizers are delicious. Tempura is very crispy and perfectly batter. Miso soup comes in these bowls that look like cute little Japanese baths. Definitely one of the better sushi places in BCS.

Yelp
I enjoyed my lunch here! I got vegetable hibachi and it was very fresh :) During lunch it wasn't crowded. I love how calm it is inside.

Yelp
On arrival I was surprised this was in a meh strip center, but the reviews were good. Our server was fantastic. She was attentive and helpful. My husband doesn't want any of the sushi/sashimi type items. He got the steak hibachi and said it was delicious. I got the Maine roll and it was great as well. I look forward trying more of their rolls.

Yelp
This is my second time at 40 Tempura! The food here is always consistent and it never disappoints. Restaurant: The restaurant itself has dim lighting and a medium noise level. The staff is very nice and constantly checking up on our table. There was no wait time and the tables itself were very clean. There is also plenty of seating in the restaurant! Moreover, I liked how the sushi counter is outside of the kitchen so you can see the sushi getting prepared by the cooks. Salmon Teriyaki Bento: The salmon teriyaki bento was very delicious! First, they bring out a miso soup which is very warm and nice to start off with. The bento itself comes with a California roll, salad, gyoza, fried rice, and the Salmon Teriyaki. The California roll is a classic and the ingredients taste very fresh. The salad was good too and had a light ginger tasting dressing. The gyoza was crispy and had a yummy sweet sauce drizzled on top. The fried rice was incredible and it wasn't too salty. Lastly, the salmon was great and I loved that it came with plenty of teriyaki sauce on top! Sunset roll: I really enjoy tempura rolls in general. This was definitely one of the better rolls I have tasted in the Bryan/CSTAT area. The ingredients are very fresh here and you can taste the quality of the food they use. On top of the roll, there is a slightly spicy sauce on top and it added such a nice kick to the roll. Overall, 40 Tempura is a very good restaurant. There is not many good Japanese places in the CSTAT area but this is one of the better ones. I really enjoyed my food and time here and I will be back again soon!

Yelp
Sushi is incredibly fresh! The fantastic roll is exceptional! Service is great! Love this place.

Yelp
The food is delicious, my wife and I like going to get the Hibachi. The service is always good and the staff are friendly. The décor and ambience give a great vibe. The only slight issue is the temperature inside being a bit muggy, but that can easily be overlooked.

Yelp
Very good sushi I have enjoyed a number of dishes although I am not a real sushi fan. This is one place that I do like.

Angela H.

Yelp
The food was, as always, wonderful! It's also not every day that you get to enjoy an amazing dinner while having life lessons... My 13 year old son and I ate there on the way to a baseball tournament out of town; during our dinner, a table beside us had a gentleman that was apparently very agitated about the service (which honestly, was stellar). He got up no less than three times and was extremely aggressive, to the point of almost shoving the Manager. The manager and his staff handled the situation so beautifully - they apologized and made sure that the table had everything they needed, but more importantly, served that table with patience and grace. The manager apologized to us and those around us but there was nothing to apologize for - I was able to show my son that while you can't control how other people act, you can control your own actions, and that kindness is a perfect answer. The manager especially was an example of that. Well done, and we will be back!

Angela Y.

Yelp
Solid 4.5. We ordered sushi lunch bento and tempura udon so we can try the raw and cooked dishes. Both were delicious. The fish (sashimi) here is fresh - the texture is right and doesn't smell. The shrimp tempura was crispy and not greasy. The udon broth was light but flavorful. So glad we gave this place a try!

Yelp
Decent food, decent service, decent price. Very slow. I prefer other sushi places in town.

Yelp
Flavor: 5/5 Quality: 5/5 Portions: 4/5 Hospitality: 5/5 Cleanliness: 5/5 Atmosphere: 5/5 Cost: $$ (moderate) My favorite items: Butterfly kiss, Spicy Chicken fried rice, miso soup. (Best soy, ginger, wasabi, and sushi rice I've ever had) I lived in Japan for 2 years, and this is still one of the best sushi joints I've ever been to. They're the #1 sushi restaurant in BCS. They really care about quality. I would give this higher stars if I could. It's a little pricey for BCS, but it's worth it. I'll usually come here once a month or so. Nothing on the menu has disappointed me. They use quality ginger and amazing rice vinegar (they have the best sushi rice I've ever eaten). If you know anything about sushi, then both of these things will tell you so much about a sushi restaurant. Easily one of the top 10 restaurants in BCS

Ryan E.

Yelp
Overrated and overpriced. Service was very slow not worth it to wait an hour in line if you don't have a reservation.

Jackie C.

Yelp
Best sushi in town. Really great for a date night. Have had plenty of birthday dinners here. Favorite place in Cstat.
google avatar

Deya Z.

Yelp
Great service and terrific sushi! Only downside is that it's a little cramped but still spacious enough. The portions are also a good sized, for sushi. Definitely coming back!

Yelp
This was my first time to eat at 40 Tempura and it was a wonderful experience! The service was fantastic and food was delicious . I bacame a fan of the crab balls we had as a appetizer .. I highly recommend trying 40 Tempura if you haven't yet.

Nilah W.

Yelp
40 has spoiled me for other sushi restaurants. Every server understands the menu. Very rare. The fish is ALWAYS fresh. The sauces accentuate the food and do not cover up the flavors. Every special event in my family is celebrated at 40.
google avatar

Haley F.

Yelp
YUM! So good. The restaurant itself is older and small, but the food is very good. Friendly service. Clean.

Daren L.

Yelp
Very good hibachi and sushi! Will definitely visit when I return to College Station!!
google avatar

Arturo R.

Yelp
The quality of the food in this restaurant is excellent, no complaints as of that. However making a reservation is a problem. This is the second time I make a reservation and when I get there they don't have it in record. They admitted that some times they have a problem with reservations. Do what is the point of making an confirming a reservation if you are going to wait 40 minutes any way!! My advice to you is don't come in a busy day after making a reservation.

Lilian L.

Yelp
Sushi was good. A little but too much use of crab (the fake kind), and you can taste it. Wish it would be more fresh fish only oriented. But in general service was great and food also.
google avatar

Tonya C.

Yelp
Excellent sushi dinner with my daughter after long day of college orientation. Sat at bar and enjoyed watching the sushi chefs. Highly recommend the chef making something for you off their menu. Cucumber roll yummy too!
google avatar

Janisah Amirah S.

Yelp
Pros: Nice, classy ambiance Very fast service Servers were very nice Decent prices Cons: -the yakisoba soup we got tasted a little bland, and didn't have much meat in it. It was mostly thick noodles and broth. -the miso soup had one (!) slice of mushroom, apart from that, it tasted like regular miso soup I think they have the potential to be absolutely phenomenal, tastewise. The food here just didn't give me the wow factor that would make me come back soon and a regular.

Selena L.

Yelp
LOVE this place. I've been here so many times, and it's definitely my favorite restaurant in College Station. 40s has a really nice, classy vibe and the service is always on point, but I come here mainly for the amazing food. They have a variety of unique rolls. My two favorites would definitely be the volcano and the pandora, but the other choices are great too! The fish is great quality and is definitely on par with many of the nicer restaurants in Houston, which is amazing for such a small town. Lunch bentos are a great deal - big portions that always leave me feeling super full! And if you're not feeling sushi today, the yakisoba is SO good. If you're in College Station, definitely don't miss this place.

Amanda L.

Yelp
I've lived in College Station for the past 11 years and this is the best sushi in town. Frankly the best sushi I've ever had. I can't come here without ordering their butterfly kiss appetizer, it's my favorite thing on the menu. Everything here is fantastic. Service is exceptional.

Nina M.

Yelp
A bit pricier than other sushi spots in the college station area, but definitely delicious.

Cecilia C.

Yelp
Everything I've tried from raw to tempura fried has been Delicious! Friendly staff and beautiful restaurant.

Karen G.

Yelp
Best. Sushi. Hands Down! Kim and Sam are excellent owners who take care of customers. Every item I have tried has been excellent. I particularly love the Kabocha tempura and the Fantastic roll (with added habanero pepper)

Yelp
Soobin was our waiter and he was the best!! Gave us recommendations told us real opinions and knew most of all the questions we had. He was quick and very helpful in helping us choose what to get. The food was excellent. We got a sunomono (seaweed salad), Flaming shrimp and a hamachi (yellowtail) nigiri. He knew the menu in and out and brought the food promptly. The plating was beyond my expectations and I will be coming back to this Japanese fusion spot with more people! Great for lunch and dinner they have a special lunch menu and a perfect amount of dishes to choose from. I brought a drink from outside and they didn't say anything about it. 9/10 I feel like the tempura should've been fried a little bit longer but other than that the experience and the food was a 10. It'll be about $15-$20 per person and so worth it!!! @spacecityshmacks APPROVED ^^^Check out my IG Page^^^ #SHMACKATTACK

Yelp
Very fresh food and beautiful presentation. The restaurant is very clean and staff is super attentive. A great variety of dishes.

Yelp
Amazing sushi!! Fantastic roll and the rainbow roll were great choices. Fairly priced.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious food. Great service. Quiet atmosphere. I love this place. Best Japanese food in town. The fried cheesecake is amazing too.
google avatar

Thamer O.

Yelp
I'm a regular customer there but I just found out I was wasting my money there Don't waist your time waiting, you gonna wait more than hour for nothing, it's busy just cos it's small place not for good service.
google avatar

Thomas M.

Yelp
We went to 40 Tempura for Valentine's day, and it was absolutely delightful. This is my go to sushi joint in College Station. The quality of food is great (I believe ingredients are shipped daily, if I'm not mistaken) and the price point is solid. The rolls are large and delicious. My favorite roll is there flaming unagi roll, which is served with fire. The reason I put 4 stars is that they put too much cream cheese on the roll this time and it slightly overpowered the rest of the ingredients. The environment is very intimate and I would recommend for a date or a nice dinner out with friends or family.
google avatar

Gigi L.

Yelp
The desert is pretty good. I like the fantastic roll and the pandora roll. But the hibachi is just so so. I haven been here for several times, and overall, this restaurant is pretty good Strongly recommended- Volcano

Francisco S.

Yelp
Great place for sushi and the atmosphere good too. Im not lying! Sweet desserts good for filling

Iraz T.

Yelp
You gotta get the fried cheesecake for dessert, one of the best desserts I ever had. Staff is great, very friendly
google avatar

Trey C.

Yelp
Good place. Rolls are spot on. Something that surprised me was the flavor in the California roll. Most places just throw that simple and classic roll together can serve it. This one you could tell was prepared correctly. Really shows the focus of this place.
google avatar

Jenn G.

Yelp
Called and set a reservation for 8pm. Arrive, wait 10 minutes for anyone to acknowledge my presence, and then I am told that they "had other 8:00 reservations" and that there was no table for me and I would have to wait. Didn't wait. Other restaurants in the city are much more competent at seating guests with reservations.
google avatar

Nancy H.

Yelp
Great food, huge menu, large portions and excellent service. Consistently good hibachi, sushi and Japanese food.

Chezz B.

Yelp
I tried going in and ordering to go but I guess you can't get udon to go because it's to hard that's ridiculous they definitely lost my business never going back. Like how can you own a restaurant and not have the proper stuff to make your menu to go not everyone has the pleasure or time to sit down and eat.

Christian M.

Yelp
A little pricey but fully worth it. A must go in CStat for all that love sushi. I always get a different roll and I have yet to be let down.

Aaron C.

Yelp
My wife's favorite stop. Sushi is the best in town that we have tried so far. Love the hand wash and wait staff always do a great job taking care of us. Carbonated beverages could use some work, I stick with tea here. We love it here. Simple and easy.
google avatar

Ronnie J.

Yelp
40 Tempura has been a spot that I've loved to drop by every now and then. It's such a quaint little spot with a team of attentive and kind waitstaff. This visit we discovered their Hibachi Fried Rice, recommended to us, with thick chunks of steak, juicy chicken and succulent shrimp. The rice and meat was also served with fresh grilled veggies ... MY NEW FAVE. It's definitely a hearty helping of food so you can share it between 2+ people for sure. I love the Rainbow Roll, since it is an offering of a couple different fish and avocado but their Texan Roll has been one of my favorite alternatives. If you're really wanting something different, I highly recommend the Ahi Tuna Tower. That right there is S C R U M P T I O U S Give this place a try - order some of their spicy edamame as you wait!

Yelp
We found this place after searching on Yelp (the map location/address is not accurate) but we ended up finding it and so happy they were open late because we were starving. Ambiance was casual, cozy and dark with votives on the tables and it wasn't too loud or crowded. We started off with baby octopus and I heard that it was chewy but tasty. As for me, I'm not that adventurous. My bowl of Udon was perfection. Thick noodles in a broth that was tasty and filling. A California roll was an easy choice with kids, the vegetable misto was excellent, teriyaki chicken was on the order for the kids and service was friendly but a bit slow. Overall a great stop.

Emma S.

Yelp
I came here with my family for a graduation dinner. I don't eat fish or seafood but I love vegan sushi. So I got the beef bulgogi and some vegan sushi. They had two kinds of vegan sushi but I don't remember which one I got. However both the beef bulgogi and vegan sushi were very good and would recommend to anybody who likes the vibe of eating sushi but can't actually eat it (like me) or for anyone who just wants to try something new. My family who also ordered a variety of sushi's had positive reviews of their food too.
